Malaysia : Free Highway Tolls For Christmas 2023!
On Thursday, 21 December 2023, Malaysia Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan announced free highway tolls for two days:
- Saturday, 23 December 2023
- Tuesday, 26 December 2023
The toll-free travel will apply to all types of vehicles travelling on all highways in Malaysia, except the toll plazas at the national borders in Johor:
- the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Toll Plaza
- the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza
The toll-free period will begin at 12:01 AM and end at 11:59 PM on the two days – Saturday, 23 December 2023, and Tuesday, 26 December, 2023.
An estimated 2.1 million vehicles are expected to use the highways during the Christmas 2023 season, with the free toll costing the government RM20 million per day, for a total cost of RM40 million.

It is hoped that this toll waiver will reduce the burden on those who are planning to return to their home towns to visit their families and celebrate Christmas together.
This is in line with the intention of the unity government to help ease the burden of the people across the religious diversity and beliefs
Highway users should take advantage of this opportunity and plan their journeys as best as possible while observing the recommended travel time advisory schedule.
He said that the dates were chosen to avoid traffic congestion, and optimise logistics. He also advised highway users to observe the safety limits, signages, and regulations.
