Lenovo ThinkStation P620 : World’s First 64-Core Workstation!

By leveraging the new AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors, the Lenovo ThinkStation P620 is the world’s first and only 64-core workstation.

This gives it a great performance advantage over other workstations that can only offer 18 cores (single processor) or 56 cores (dual processor).

Of course, Lenovo is also offering the option to equip the P620 with 32-core, 16-core and 12-core Threadripper PRO processors.

 

On top of that, the Lenovo ThinkStation P620 will be able to offer 128 lanes of PCIe 4.0, and 8-channel memory support.

To ensure its reliability and stability, Lenovo and AMD collaborated to create a unique air-cooled solution to keep the processor cool, with a custom-designed heat sink.

You will be able to equip it with up to two NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000, or up to four NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 graphics cards.

Lenovo will offer DDR4-3200 memory configurations of 128 GB all the way to 1 TB – all with 8 memory modules for maximum 8-channel performance.

It also comes with two NVMe slots, and four 3.5-inch drive bays, allowing you to provision up to 4 TB of SSD storage, and 16 TB of HDD storage.

This is the flagship, with 64 cores capable of processing up to 128 threads simultaneously. It comes with 288 MB of L2 and L3 caches, a 2.7 GHz base clock and a 4.2 GHz boost clock, with a 280 W TDP.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3975WX

This processor has 32 cores with the ability to process up to 64 threads simultaneously. It comes with 144 MB of L2 and L3 caches, a 3.5 GHz base clock and a 4.2 GHz boost clock, with a 280 W TDP.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3955WX

This processor has 16 cores with the ability to process up to 32 threads simultaneously. It comes with 72 MB of L2 and L3 caches, a 3.9 GHz base clock and a 4.3 GHz boost clock, with a 280 W TDP.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3945WX

This processor has 12 cores with the ability to process up to 24 threads simultaneously. It comes with 70 MB of L2 and L3 caches, a 4.0 GHz base clock and a 4.3 GHz boost clock, with a 280 W TDP.

The new AMD Radeon Pro VII graphics card is designed for post-production teams to create 8K content, as well as engineers and data scientists working on complex models with large datasets.

Leading Double Precision Performance

With up to 6.5 TFLOPS (FP64) of double precision performance for demanding engineering and scientific workloads, the Radeon Pro VII graphics card provides 5.6X the performance-per-dollar versus the NVIDIA Quadro RTX on the AMD Internal Benchmark for Altair EDEM “Screw Auger” viewset. 

High-Speed Memory

The AMD Radeon Pro VII has 16 GB of HBM2 with 1 TB/s memory bandwidth and full ECC capability, allowing it to handle large and complex models and datasets smoothly with low latency.

AMD Infinity Fabric Link

AMD Radeon ProRender May 2020 Updates!

With the launch of Radeon Pro VII, AMD announced a slew of updates for Radeon ProRender, including a sneak peek of Radeon ProRender 2.0!

First, here is the official AMD tech briefing on the Radeon ProRender performance with Radeon Pro VII.

 

AMD Radeon ProRender May 2020 Updates!

Here are the new updates AMD is introducing for Radeon ProRender, with a special experimental Radeon ProRender 2.0 mode!

Easier Implementation

AMD Radeon ProRender SDKs are now freely available under the permissive Apache Licence 2.0, simplifying the licensing agreement to use Radeon ProRender in your own application.

AMD is also making open-source versions of all their Radeon ProRender plug-ins available on GPUOpen, so developers can use as examples on how to integrate ProRender into their application.

Updated SDKs

A new beta of Radeon ProRender 2.0 SDK is now available, which will introduce these new features :

  • a new flexible shader node system,
  • out-of-core support for heavy geometry,
  • improved rendering algorithm for better convergence with the same samples per pixel, and
  • better CPU + GPU rendering

AMD also released Radeon Rays 4.0, an update of their high-performance ray intersection acceleration library, with a custom AABB hierarchy, and GPU Bounding Volume Hierarchy (BVH) optimisations.

This new version supports both AMD GPUs and CPUs, as well as those of other vendors using DirectX 12 and Vulkan.

New Unreal Engine Plug-In

AMD is also releasing their new Radeon ProRadeon plug-in for Unreal Engine, which introduces :

  • Vulkan API-based Full Spectrum Rendering technology
  • Full OpenCL path-traced rendering
  • AI-accelerated demonising
  • Adaptive sampling
  • Native tone mapping
  • Gamma controls

This plug-in is fully-integrated into Unreal Engine, and uses existing lights, materials and textures of any scene you create.

Updated Blender Plug-In

AMD also updated their plug-in to support the upcoming release of Blender 2.83, which includes :

  • an OpenVBD volumes node
  • improved export times for image files
  • support for ObjectID and MaterialID AOVs
  • experimental Radeon ProRender 2.0 mode

Updated Autodesk Maya Plug-In

They also updated their Autodesk Maya plug-in to support version 2020, which adds features like :

  • support for rendering OpenVBD volumes
  • Radeon ProRender lights showing in Maya Light Editor and HyperShade
  • support for more Maya shader nodes, camera motion blur
  • experimental Radeon ProRender 2.0 mode

Updated SideFX Houdini 18 Plug-In

This plug-in was updated to include :

  • support for Houdini principled shader
  • improved Radeon ProRender area lights
  • added motion blur support
  • improved OpenVBD volume rendering

Radeon Pro Software for Enterprise 20.Q2 is now up to 14% faster in the geomean of the SPECviewperf 13 benchmark viewsets, compared to last year’s 19.Q2 driver.

Intelligent Power Management

When upgraded to AMD Radeon Pro Software for Enterprise 20.Q2, the AMD Radeon Pro W5700 graphics card will use up to 21% less system power when running Photoshop than the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 graphics card using NVIDIA Quadro Optimal Driver for Enterprise (ODE) R440 U7 (442.74) driver.

Better Multitasking Performance

When using SOLIDWORKS and CPU rendering with KeyShot 8 in the background, AMD Radeon Pro W5700 using Radeon Pro Software for Enterprise 20.Q2 will deliver up to 2.4x better average performance compared to the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 graphics card using NVIDIA Quadro Optimal Driver for Enterprise (ODE) R440 U7 (442.74) driver.

AMD Radeon Pro W5700

Designed for engineers, architects and 3D designers, the Radeon Pro W5700 promises greatly improved performance and efficiency over its predecessors.

This is mostly thanks to its new RNDA architecture, which delivers 25% more instructions per clock (IPC) than the last-generation Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture.

This allows the Radeon Pro W5700 deliver up to 41% better performance per watt than the Radeon Pro WX 8200, which is based on the older GCN architecture.

The AMD Radeon Pro W5700 is basically the workstation variant of the AMD Radeon RX 5700 graphics card, with some major differences :

  • Stress-tested for 24/7 environments
  • AMD Radeon Pro Software for Enterprise drivers

There are so many workstation and server CPU models that it has become quite impossible to keep up with the different models or even remember their specifications!

Therefore, we decided to compile this guide to provide an easy reference for those who are interested in comparing the specifications of the various workstation and server CPU models in the market, as well as those already obsolescent or obsolete.

Currently covering 1,243 workstation and server CPUs, this comprehensive comparison will allow you to easily compare up to 20 different specifications for each and every workstation or server CPU.

Altos Computing Inc President, Jackie Lee, flew in from Taipei to introduce the 2019 Acer Altos product line-up for business and enterprise users.

Acer Altos QSAN XN3004T Tower 4+1 Bay NAS

The Acer Altos QSAN XN3004T NAS (Network-Attached Storage) runs on the QSM 3 operating system, and comes with a USB One Touch Copy Button, which allows the automatic back-up of USB flash drives and external hard disk drives to pre-set folders.

It has an auto-tiering architecture, that will progressively optimise the data to allow users to retrieve their data quicker. Its real-time remote replication and cloud backup also allows for additional backup of important assets.

Thanks to its hybrid (N+1) storage system, the XN3004T NAS allows you to add a SSD for better data access performance from its four 3.5-inch hard disk drives. It also boasts a screw-less tray design, which allows you to install, upgrade, or replace existing HDDs without tools.

Given the importance of data security, Acer Altos QSAN XN3004T NAS has built-in anti-virus protection. In addition, its self-encrypting drive (SED) technology protects the data from Day 1, and secures it even if the physical drives are stolen or misplaced.

      The new AMD FirePro S7150 and AMD FirePro S7150 x2 server graphics cards will combine with industry-leading OEM offerings to create high-performance virtual workstations and address IT needs of simple installation and operation, critical data security and outstanding performance-per-dollar. Typical VDI use cases include Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Media and Entertainment, and office applications powered by the industry’s first hardware-based virtualized GPU.

      IT budgets can realize support for up to 16 simultaneous users with a single AMD FirePro S7150 GPU card which features 8 GB of GDDR5 memory, while up to twice as many simultaneous users (32 in total) can be supported by a single AMD FirePro S7150 x2 card which includes a total of 16 GB of GDDR5 memory (8GB per GPU). Both models feature 256-bit memory bandwidth.
