TTDI Ramadan Bazaar Offers Full Digital Payments!

Tech Hunter just launched a Ramadan Bazaar in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI) called #TechMeToBazaar. The massive bazaar boasts over 150 stalls offering local delicacies, and expects to welcome over 200,000 visitors this year.

Thanks to Tech Hunter Global Sdn Bhd (“Tech Hunter”), visitors to the TTDI Ramadan Bazaar can make payments using a variety of digital modes, including debit or credit cards and e-wallets.

All stalls at the TTDI Ramadan Bazaar are fully equipped with payment terminals set up by PayHunter, a Tech Hunter subsidiary, so visitors can simply “wave” their debit or credit cards, or scan the QR codes to digitally transfer money using any e-wallet. Visitors no longer have to worry about bringing enough cash to pay for their buka puasa meals!

TTDI Ramadan Bazaar is also powered by SHOPLINE, a global Smart Commerce Enabler offering omnichannel commerce solutions. SHOPLINE recently integrated its POS system with Tech Hunter’s Smart Mobile Payment Terminal to allow retailers to easily place and checkout a customer’s order via a compact, wireless device – perfect for space-saving and mobile use at the bazaar!

Lastly, YTL Communications’ Yes is the telecommunications provider that powers the 5G connectivity throughout the entire bazaar.

“This Ramadan, we are proud to launch the first ever 5G Ramadan Bazaar, powered by Yes 5G as part of the Tech Me To Bazaar campaign,” said Wing K. Lee, Chief Executive Officer at YTL Communications. “In line with our ongoing mission to enable 5G for All, we are bringing 5G connectivity to one of the most engaged activities of the festive season. Through the Ramadan bazaar at TTDI, we are making 5G accessible for both vendors and customers alike to experience seamless connectivity, fast internet speeds and ultra-low latency through Yes 5G. We welcome all to our Yes booths located within the bazaar, to kickstart their 5G experience powered by Yes”.

YTL Terragraph Public WiFi Network In Penang Goes Live!

The YTL Terragraph public WiFi network in Penang has gone live! Here is the latest update on the super-fast public WiFi project for historic George Town, a UNESCO heritage site!

YTL Terragraph Deployment In Penang

Back in February 2019, YTL launched the first Terragraph trial in Penang, promising to install about 200 Terragraph nodes across a quarter of historic George Town.

They surpassed that goal with the deployment of 350 Terragraph nodes installed on 160 city lamp posts just 6 weeks after their initial trial.

YB Jagdeep Singh Deo, Penang EXCO for Local Government, Housing and Town & Country Planning said, “I am extremely glad to announce that YTL Terragraph Public WiFi network here in George Town heritage area can deliver download speed up to 170 Mbps. This is 10 times faster than the fastest public WiFi network in the world including Singapore.

YTL has so far completed deploying Terragraph in 5 zones in the George Town heritage area. They are set to complete all zones by end of May 2019.

What Is Terragraph?

Terragraph is a millimetre-wave wireless technology that uses the 60 GHz spectrum to deliver low-cost, high-speed internet connectivity to dense urban areas. Think of it as a cheap, wireless alternative to expensive fibre-optic broadband.

The Facebook Terragraph technology is attractive to city planners because the unique signal-absorbing nature of the 60 GHz band limits interference to other wireless systems. It is also cheap to implement because it uses off-the-shelf WiGig components, and the 60 GHz spectrum is unlicensed.

Another advantage is the unobtrusive nature of its nodes – they are small and can be installed on existing lighting and traffic light poles. This greatly eases installation, and lowers costs, while multiple nodes to be installed without affecting the landscape.

The YTL Terragraph Public WiFi Network – How Fast Is It?

Currently, the YTL Terragraph Public WiFi network has achieved download speeds of over 170 Mbps, with upload speeds of 160 Mbps.

YTL also reported that on average, 230 MB of data was transferred per session, with a peak consumption of 5 GB for a single user.

OpenSignal : YES Has Best 4G LTE Speed & Availability!

In their 2017 year-end report, OpenSignal has named YES as the mobile service provider with the fastest overall download speed, and the best 4G LTE signal availability across Malaysia. This is a big win for YES, which was only launched in 2010 as a digital-only mobile service provider.

YES Has Best 4G LTE Speed & Availability

The OpenSignal report was based on more than a billion data points that were crowdsourced from over 75,000 real world smartphone users in Malaysia. This makes it arguably the most accurate and authoritative reports to date. Only YES and Maxis were recognised as leaders by OpenSignal in that report.

According to OpenSignal, YES customers were able to connect to the 4G LTE signal 93.2% of the time – a whopping 13 points ahead of their nearest competitor. The other four competitors did not even break the 75% mark!

Although YES did not win the award for the fastest 4G download speed, they won the award for the overall download speed. With an average download speed of 19.3 Mbps, they are far ahead of their competitors, and the global average of 16.6 Mbps.

The OpenSignal recognition comes after YES bagged the “Most Innovative Voice Service” from the Telecom Asia Awards 2017, for being the first in Malaysia to provide nationwide VoLTE service, and “demonstrating outstanding leadership in 4G LTE technology innovation”.

Live Demonstration Of YES 4G+ (LTE Advanced) Performance

The CEO of YTL Communications, Wing K. Lee, was justly proud of this achievement as YES launched their 4G LTE and VoLTE (Voice over LTE) service nationally just 15 months ago. He pointed out that the YES network now supports 4G+ across the nation.

Also known as LTE Advanced, 4G+ supports Carrier Aggregation (CA), which is the ability to combine multiple carriers or channels for much faster download speeds. He demonstrated that capability live in this video using the Samsung Galaxy Note8.

As you can see, the YES 4G+ network is capable of delivering blistering download speeds of 125 Mbps, thanks to carrier aggregation. This 4G+ capability solidifies the YES network’s claim to be the best 4G network, bar none.

Yes 4G LTE Network Launch Coverage

On the 30th of June 2016, YTL Communications officially unveiled the Yes 4G LTE network. As a fully digital network with VoLTE capability, it is the most advanced 4G LTE network in Malaysia promising faster mobile Internet and HD audio.

This event also makes Yes the 5th mobile service provider in Malaysia, providing much needed competition. In fact, Yes fired a shot across their rivals’ bows with an amazing line of prepaid and postpaid plans. Watch CEO Wing K. Lee tell you why the Yes 4G LTE network is superior to the other mobile services in Malaysia.

They even brought in an expert panel (moderated by Bloomberg Malaysia’s Sophie Kamaruddin) to talk about the importance of developing Malaysia into a 4G nation.

If that was not enough, YTL Communications also launched their own smartphone – the Yes Altitude. This is part of Yes 4G’s strategy to make 4G more accessible to the Malaysians from all walks of life.

The launch was officiated by the Malaysian Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr.) Salleh Said Keruak, together with YTL Corporation Berhad Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Panglima (Dr) Yeoh Tiong Lay, YTL Corporation Berhad Managing Director Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr.) Francis Yeoh Sock Ping, YTL Communications Executive Directors Dato’ Yeoh Seok Hong, and Dato’ Yeoh Soo Keng, as well as Chief Executive Officer Wing K. Lee.

Yes 4G LTE Prepaid & Postpaid Plans Revealed

Yesterday, Yes became Malaysia’s 5th telco when they launched their new 4G LTE network. As the most advanced 4G LTE network and the first to offer VoLTE capability in Malaysia, Yes aims to be Malaysia’s 4G data leader in pricing and performance.

During the launch held at the swanky Majestic Hotel, YTL Communications CEO Wing K. Lee took the existing telcos to task, and showed how the new Yes 4G LTE prepaid and postpaid plans offer much better value for our money.

YTL Communications CEO Wing K. Lee also announced the availability of the new Yes Altitude smartphone to complement their new VoLTE-capable network. Now, let’s check out new Yes 4G LTE prepaid & postpaid plans!

Yes 4G LTE Prepaid Plan

The starter pack for the new 4G LTE prepaid plan will only cost RM 10 (inclusive of 6% GST), and will come with the following preloaded features :

  • 500 MB of 4G LTE Internet (valid for 7 days)
  • FREE basic Internet (as long as the account is active)

Yes 4G LTE Postpaid Plans

There will be five Yes 4G LTE postpaid plans, ranging from RM 48 per month all the way to RM 158 per month. What’s really exciting is that they all offer the most mobile Internet quota in the market. Check them out!

Yes takes aim at their rivals by comparing their Postpaid 88 “Hero plan” against their “similar” offers. However, please note that the Yes Postpaid 88 plan actually costs RM 88 per month.

The RM 70 price is after the RM 18 deduction (first 11 months) for the RM 198 you must prepay to receive the free Yes Altitude smartphone. Ultimately, you still end up paying RM 88 per month.

Even though the Yes graphic above is a bit misleading, Yes is undoubtedly offering a lot more data at a much lower price point. Maxis, Digi, Celcom and UMobile will be hard-pressed to charge so much for their plans.

Yes Altitude Bundles

Yes is currently offering the new Yes Altitude smartphone at a subsidised price of RM 199 (~US$50) with the Yes Postpaid 48 plan.

The Yes Altitude smartphone will come free with the Yes Postpaid 88 plan. However, you must prepay RM 198, which will be refunded in the form of 11 monthly rebates.
