Bodyless is a surreal VR experience based on the director’s childhood memory during Taiwan’s martial law period in the 1970s, when human qualities were simplified and quantified with few characteristics recognized and measured by the ruling class.
The player becomes a deceased political prisoner’s ghost in his journey to find his way home.
Although the era has long gone, the emerging digital technologies follows suit. Governments started to use new technologies like digital surveillance, big data and AI as means to monitor and control people.
Powerful world leader uses tweets less than 140 characters to set the course for his country. Human beings are reduced to a few pixels on the screen and left to the military drone pilot to decide for their lives.
https://youtu.be/M3MvPymXQjA
In Bodyless, the retrospective martial law governing and ultramodern digital technologies are fused into a dark oppression against folk’s living and beliefs. The audience experiences the journey through the eyes of an old man who was a political criminal under a government’s secret experiment.
After his death, he became a ghost and descended to the underworld. In Taiwanese folk belief, during “Ghost Month”, the hell gate will open for ghosts to visit their families. The old man’s ghost makes up his face and ascends to earth.
Through his eyes, the folk culture forms a rich spiritual world interwoven with nature. However, a mechanical force starts to deteriorate the spiritual world and eventually reduces human forms and memory into simple geometrical shapes that can be easily processed by the technologies.

DreamFly is a game that simulates flights in your dreams. Immerse into the atmosphere of traveling through the world of dreams. But before you start your adventure, you will need to, well, learn how to fly.
At first, it will seem to be impossible to take off. But don’t worry! After some practice you will fly with almost no effort, enjoy the process, and, maybe, even master some aerobatics!
Playing this game requires physical activity. So you can treat it as fitness!
The game basically has no explicit controls. You have a pair of wings attached to your hands (motion controllers). The rest depend on you movements and physics (especially aerodynamics).
If you want to take off try flapping your wings (have you noticed how the birds do it 🤔?). If you want to change direction, think how to position your wings, so the airflow turns you into desired direction.
Hint: after reaching a certain speed, you can simply glide with no effort!
Hint: a quick way to gain speed is to fly up, and then dive, until you reach the desired speed.
Note: DreamFly requires VR head mounted display and motion controllers. It supports Oculus Rift + Touch and HTC Vive. Other VR platforms have not been tested.
This game is in early access. It includes one level with sandbox gameplay.
WARNING!
For the new players, It is advisable to have someone to insure against falling during the game. Otherwise, if there is a risk of falling, it is better to play sitting.
If you begin to feel motion sickness, it is recommended to interrupt the gaming session. It is advisable to begin the game with the short sessions.
Controls: X – exit. Y – screenshot.

Entire Half-Life Series : FREE To Play Until Alyx Launch!
In the ramp up to the launch of Half-Life : Alyx in March 2020, Steam is making all of the Half-Life games FREE to play… until the day Alyx launches.
Half-Life : Alyx is set before the events of Half-Life 2 and the episodes, but the games share characters and story elements.
The Half-Life : Alyx team believes that the best way to enjoy Alyx will be to play through the old games, especially Half-Life 2 and the two episodes… before you start on Alyx in March.
If you have Steam installed, just click on these links to start playing :
Set for launch this March 2020, Half-Life : Alyx is a VR-based first-person shooter that takes place before the return of Gordon Freeman in Half-Life 2.
You will control Gordon’s ally, Alyx Vance, as she fights the Combine (the alien empire that conquered Earth) with her father, Eli.
It’s built entirely for virtual reality gameplay – there will be no non-VR version – and it will support all PC-compatible VR headsets, including Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest and Windows Mixed Reality.
Valve evidently believes Half-Life : Alyx will push gamers over the tipping point of VR gaming. We will see if that happens…

Ayam Brand just launched their Racing To Space campaign to celebrate their 125th anniversary! Even though Ayam Brand is a Malaysian household name in canned foods, this campaign focuses on food sustainability, eco-consciousness and commitment to local communities.
In this campaign, they sent, not one, but FOUR high-altitude balloons all the way to the stratosphere! They also announced details of the Racing To Space contest. Check out the details below!
Racing To Space With Ayam Brand
In their Racing To Space contest, four high altitude balloons with specially-designed rigs were released. Each balloon had Ayam Brand food items attached, namely Sardines in Tomato Sauce, Canned Tuna, Baked Beans and Coconut Milk.
The objective of the race was to discover which of their classic food products would be the first to reach the highest altitude, while recording stunning aerial views of the region on the way up! Here is a virtual reality video they made of the footage :
The Ayam Brand team worked on this project for about a year, spending about RM 50,000 (~US$ 12,000) on the special rig that was designed to ensure the camera can withstand the freezing temperatures, and ultra-low pressure, up in the stratosphere.
With consultation of the Malaysian Meteorological Department, they launched the balloons in Kahang, Johor… eventually reaching a height of 29,000 m / 95,000 feet. Check out the amazing footage they obtained!
Here is a closer look at the high-altitude balloon, and the special rig they created.

How Useful / Fun Is Augmented Reality?
You may be wondering – how useful or fun is Augmented Reality (AR)? What exactly can you do with the ASUS ZenFone AR (Price Check) that you cannot do with any other smartphone? This ASUS video demonstrates three augmented reality examples that the ZenFone AR enables.

The ASUS ZenFone AR Key Features
ASUS TriCam system for Tango experiences
ZenFone AR (Price Check) uses an ASUS TriCam system consisting of three rear cameras — a motion-tracking camera, depth-sensing camera and high-resolution 23MP PixelMaster 3.0 camera — which provide input to Tango, enabling smartphone augmented reality experiences for users.
The motion-tracking camera lets ZenFone AR (Price Check) keep track of its location as it moves through three-dimensional space. The depth-sensing camera lets ZenFone AR determine its distance from objects by projecting an infrared (IR) laser and measuring the amount of time it takes for IR light to bounce off objects and return to the phone. The 23MP PixelMaster 3.0 camera features a Sony IMX318 image sensor to vividly capture the environment as a backdrop for AR experiences.
AR is a rapidly growing area of mobile technology, and one that consumers are extremely excited about. Lenovo and Google are coming together again. This time, they’re collaborating on a new immersive virtual reality product that’s designed for everyday consumers – the Google Daydream VR headset. Check out what Lenovo has to say about this collaboration!
The Google Daydream VR Headset
We’ll be giving an early preview of our upcoming Daydream standalone headset. It will be one of the first devices to feature WorldSense to allow you to move around and explore virtual environments as if you’re truly there: ducking, weaving and jumping for even more immersive experiences.
This product represents our latest effort in collaboration between our companies: You may remember the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, the world’s first Tango-enabled smartphone, launched in 2016. While the Phab 2 Pro makes a number of smartphone AR experiences possible, this standalone headset is built specifically for immersive VR.
What’s a Standalone VR headset?
Other similar VR devices require a complex setup that relies on external sensors (standalone headsets have built-in sensors). This standalone headset will streamline the experience: just pick up and play.
[adrotate banner=”4″]
And this is different from Google Daydream smartphone-based VR, since WorldSense brings natural movements into your 3D environment. Duck in a game of dodgeball or lunge sideways to evade enemies as they close in on your position.
Casual consumers will soon be able to access immersive virtual reality experiences. Developers will now be able to unlock features that most consumers have never experienced before.
We’re excited that easy-to-use, fully immersive virtual reality is coming to you very soon. We hope you are too.

On 21 February 2017, Huawei revealed their partnership with Insta360 in developing a 360° virtual reality smartphone camera. Branded as the Honor VR Camera, it offers the ability to take 3K photos and videos in 360°. Users can even livestream and share their 360° creations using the custom app.
This VR Camera is supposed to be available only in China, with no international release. However, we were amongst the lucky few to catch a demo of this camera yesterday. We even got some hands-on time with it!
The Honor VR Camera Demo
Honor has not officially announced that the Honor VR Camera will be available outside of China, but we were able to catch this short live demo recently. Check it out!
The Honor VR Camera Hands-On Preview
As this was an exclusive sneak-peek, we had only a few minutes with the Honor VR Camera. Hope you enjoy this short hands-on preview of the Honor VR Camera!
The Honor VR Camera comes in a rubber shell, which is designed to protect its two cameras from being scratched. The Type C USB port is visible at the bottom. You pull it out with two fingers, just like you would… an eyeball? 😀
Honor did not reveal much details about the Honor VR Camera, just that it is capable of 3K photography and livestreaming through the companion app. But if it’s a rebranded Insta360 Air (Amazon (USB Type C) | Amazon (micro USB) | Lazada), then the two cameras will have a 4.5 MP sensor with f/2.4 lens, and is capable of capturing photos with a resolution of 3008 x 1504, and videos with a resolution of 2560 x 1280 at 30 fps.
Honor VR Camera Price & Availability
[adrotate group=”2″]
Honor had earlier said that this VR Camera would only be available in China, and there were no plans for an international release. However, they seemed to have changed their minds.
From what we understand, they now expect to make it available internationally sometime between May and June of 2017. It will be paired with an Honor-customised companion app.
Needless to say, they do not have a price range for the Honor VR Camera right now. They can only say that “it won’t be cheap”
Considering the Insta360 Air (Amazon (USB Type C) | Amazon (micro USB) | Lazada) is selling for RM 699 / ~US$ 155, we reckon it will cost about the same. Hopefully cheaper!

AMD and Developer Partners Embrace Forward Rendering in Unreal Engine 4
[adrotate group=”2″]
VR developers today are constantly challenged to strike the right mix of technical features and computational power for the best balance of performance and visual fidelity.
Deferred rendering, used by many of today’s big game engines, does all of the geometry work first and then shades pixels last to save work but it’s not a great fit for VR.
AMD is working to enable a forward rendering path in Unreal Engine 4.15, giving developers more choice in how they develop VR games and helping to achieve a stunning looking game while delivering the high frame rates necessary for a good experience.
AMD is also working with leading game developers to explore the benefits of forward rendering in VR games, including Survios, First Contact Entertainment and Limitless Studios.

14 July 2016 — Today’s release of NVIDIA VR Funhouse extends our role in the gaming ecosystem to that of a game creator.
NVIDIA VR Funhouse
Our first game, NVIDIA VR Funhouse is built on Epic’s Unreal Engine 4, and is the brainchild of NVIDIA’s LightSpeed Studios. It was created with a dual-purpose.
First, we wanted it to be fun. To be enjoyed by people of all ages, whether or not they’ve tried VR, whether or not they’re an early adopter.
Second, it was created to show how immersive VR can be when physics simulation is fully integrated into an experience.
Why Physics Is Fundamental to VR
For nearly a decade, NVIDIA has been developing PhysX, an SDK that allows physically accurate simulation of a 3D environment. It’s provided advanced visual effects for more than 500 PC and console games.
When we first saw some of the early VR games and experiences, we quickly realized that something was missing: there was little to no physics simulation. Because VR places you inside of the experience with the ability to touch and interact with virtual objects, it is critical that those objects behave and react in realistic ways. Unlike traditional PC games, physics in VR games is not just visual effects.
It’s fundamental to immersion.
So, with VR Funhouse, we set out to integrate physical simulation into every aspect of the game and combine it with amazing graphics and precise haptics that make you feel like you are at the
carnival.
Physics effects in VR Funhouse created with NVIDIA GameWorks SDK include:
NVIDIA PhysX Destruction to make shooting game targets that realistically chip and explode when hit.
NVIDIA FleX to make the realistic cloth on the curtains, streamers and basketball nets. It’s also used to create realistic fluids for in the clown balloon race game.
NVIDIA Flow to make particles realistically respond to moving solid objects and turbulent fluid motion. You see it when players pop the confetti filled balloons and use their swords to cut through and interact with the confetti. Flow is showcased when you use the bow & arrow to light your arrow on fire, shoot it and watch the targets burn.
NVIDIA HairWorks to make the lifelike hair in the Whack-A-Mole and Punch-A-Mole level.
[adrotate banner=”5″]
Simulating physics takes incredible processing power, and we found it by applying NVIDIA VRWorks technologies, including Multi-Res Shading and VR SLI, to increase rendering performance.
To encourage developers to experiment with our SDK, we’re going to be open sourcing VR Funhouse later this summer. We fully expect that developers, enthusiasts and artists from both the VR industry and game industry will build their own mini-games.
To achieve our goals, we created VR Funhouse as an enthusiast’s experience, not a ‘min-spec’ experience. We recommend that you experience it on a GeForce GTX 980 Ti, or GeForce 10 Series GPUS. The best, most immersive experience will use dual GeForce GTX 1080s.
To experience the fusion of state of the art graphics and realistic physics modeling in a VR game, download NVIDIA VR Funhouse on Steam today.

TAIPEI, 1 June 2016 — Wednesday at Computex 2016, Microsoft Corp. invited its Windows 10 hardware partners to create virtual reality (VR) devices, augmented reality devices and everything in between with Windows Holographic, the platform that powers Microsoft HoloLens. In opening up Windows Holographic to partners, Microsoft shared its vision for mixed reality — a world where devices interact with each other to change the way people work, communicate, learn and play.
“With Windows 10, we’ve been on an incredible journey with our partners, and today we usher in the next frontier of computing — mixed reality,” said Terry Myerson, executive vice president, Windows and Devices.
Windows: The only holographic platform
With over 80 million virtual reality devices expected on the market, per year, by 2020, the business opportunity for virtual reality is vast. Yet, today’s devices are built with related but differing technologies — ranging from virtual to augmented reality. These devices and experiences do not work together today, because of different user interfaces, interaction models, input methods, peripherals and applications. Most virtual reality experiences can’t mix real people, objects and environments into the virtual world, making creation and collaboration difficult.
Windows Holographic
Windows Holographic unites these worlds and enables innovation across a range of devices. Windows Holographic offers a holographic shell and user interface, perception APIs, and Xbox Live services, enabling a familiar experience across apps and content. All Universal Windows apps can run on the Windows Holographic platform. Today there are nearly a thousand Universal Windows Apps that run on Windows Holographic.
In a mixed reality world, devices can offer experiences that extend beyond the virtual world. Imagine wearing a VR device and seeing your physical hands as you manipulate an object, working on the scanned 3-D image of a real object, or bringing a real-life holographic representation of another person into your virtual world so you can collaborate. In this world, devices can spatially map your environment wherever you are; manipulating digital content is as easy and natural as it is in the real world.
In addition to opening up Windows Holographic to its partner ecosystem for the future, Microsoft is working with Intel Corporation, AMD Inc., Qualcomm Inc., HTC Corp., Acer Inc., ASUS, Dell Inc., Falcon Northwest, HP, Lenovo Group Ltd., MSI and many others to build a hardware ecosystem supporting great virtual reality experiences on Windows 10.
