YES + TPG Launch VoLTE Roaming In Southeast Asia!

YES and TPG today announced that they are the first telecommunications providers in Southeast Asia to introduce VoLTE Roaming!

Here is EVERYTHING you need to know about the YES and TPG partnership to introduce VoLTE Roaming in SEA!

YES + TPG Launch VoLTE Roaming In Southeast Asia!

The YES and TPG VoLTE Roaming solution is the first in Southeast Asia, and another milestone for YES, who was also the first in Malaysia to deliver VoLTE nationwide in June 2016.

As the 4th national telecommunications operator in Singapore, TPG is eager to break-out ahead of the competition. They have thus become the first in Southeast Asia to launch outbound VoLTE roaming.

VoLTE roaming will ensure high definition (HD) quality voice services, as well as other benefits like faster call connections, longer battery life and enhanced security.

YES To Accept Inbound TPG VoLTE Roaming Traffic

With the sole all-IP, all-4G LTE network in Malaysia, YES is a natural partner for TPG to receive inbound VoLTE traffic from TPG.

With this announcement, TPG subscribers in Singapore will enjoy VoLTE roaming in Malaysia, and YES subscribers in Malaysia will enjoy VoLTE roaming in Singapore.

On top of that, TPG Acting CEO Richard Tan announced that many TPG subscribers will enjoy FREE unlimited data roaming in Malaysia on the YES network during the promotion period.

The Yoodo Digital 4G Service

Yoodo is a fully-digital, fully-customisable mobile service that runs exclusively on the Celcom 4G network. It is essentially what Yes has been since June 2016 – a 4G-only network with fast mobile Internet and VoLTE capability.

Some people are calling Yoodo a new telco, or a MVNO (mobile virtual network operator). Neither are accurate, because Yoodo is a Celcom service. To explain what Yoodo is, and what it offers, there is no one better than Farid Yunus, Head of Yoodo.

Now, watch how easy it is to sign-up and customise a Yoodo plan!

Free! Free! Free!

Yoodo offers a bunch of freebies right out of the door :

  • Free SIM card – you can order a Yoodo SIM card for free, even without customising or paying for your plan!

  • Free tethering – you don’t have to pay to share your data with your laptop and other mobile devices!
  • Free changes and cancellation – you can change your plan, or leave Yoodo at anytime, without any fees!

For those who cannot wait 1-3 days for the free standard delivery, Yoodo offers an Express Delivery option in the Klang Valley – for RM 15, you will receive the SIM card in just 2 hours!

The Yoodo Price List

Not only is Yoodo fully digital, it is fully customisable. You only select the services you want to pay for.

Why Is Celcom Launching Yoodo?

With the exception of Yes, which uses a pure 4G LTE network, all other mobile networks in Malaysia employ a hybrid analog-digital network. This allows them to continue using their existing 2G and 3G networks, while supplementing them with the faster digital-only 4G LTE network.

They will all need to migrate their users to a fully-digital network to free up spectrum, and eventually upgrade their network to 5G. Creating these digital-only services allow them to do that, without disrupting their existing hybrid network.

They also need to catch up with Yes, which has been touting the speed and availability of their 4G LTE network.

Digi VoLTE (Voice-over-LTE) Is Now Available!

Shah Alam, 26 October 2016Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) today announced that the Digi VoLTE (Voice-over-LTE) feature is now available on its 4G LTE network nationwide. VoLTE is a next-generation voice call technology that allows customers to enjoy better voice call quality for those with VoLTE-capable devices such as the newly launched Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Digi VoLTE

With Digi VoLTE, voice calls are connected over a 4G LTE network. Up to now, cellular voice calls in Malaysia for all telcos are generally made over 2G and 3G networks. The higher bandwidth of the 4G LTE network makes it ideal to transmit higher fidelity voice calls that Digi customers can now enjoy. Along with that, Digi VoLTE also comes with a noise cancellation capability that eliminates most background noise for a clearer call experience.

Another advantage of VoLTE is that it allows customers to simultaneously surf the web, download or stream content from the internet at 4G LTE speeds while engaged on a voice call. Up to now, the need to use 3G or 2G infrastructure to connect voice calls means internet activity while on calls will not be as fast as experienced on Digi’s 4G LTE network.

“We are excited to bring this next-generation technology to customers. VoLTE is an evolution of voice call technology. We have been placing voice calls on the 2G and 3G network for years now and it’s a natural shift that we’re bring the higher capacity of our 4G network to offer customers a higher quality call experience.”

“We have been working hard to bring innovation to the market and VoLTE is one of the many things we have in the pipeline for our customers. This is yet another step forward as we move towards our ambition of becoming our customers’ favourite partner in digital life,” said Digi’s Chief Marketing Officer, Loh Keh Jiat.

[adrotate banner=”4″]

To enjoy these new features, which come at no additional cost, both devices making and receiving the call must be VoLTE-capable with the feature switched on and with both customers located within Digi’s 4G LTE coverage area. Digi’s 4G LTE network now reaches 78% of Malaysians nationwide in 225 major cities and towns making it widely accessible for those with the appropriate devices to enjoy an improved call quality.

Digi customers who bought the newly launched iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be among the first to experience VoLTE as the smartphone comes equipped for it. Customers with earlier versions of the iPhone, including the iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, 6, 6 Plus and SE will also be able to enjoy VoLTE calls as long as they’ve upgraded their iOS version to 10.1 and activated VoLTE from the device settings. VoLTE capability in devices from other manufacturers will be rolled out soon in stages.

Meanwhile, customers with devices that are not VoLTE-capable need not worry as there are no changes to the way they enjoy Digi’s voice calls.
