WhatsApp Voice Chat : How To Create / Join / Quit It?

Find out how to create, join, or quit the new WhatsApp Voice Chat feature for large groups!

WhatsApp Voice Chat : What Is It?

On 14 November 2023, WhatsApp launched a new Voice Chat feature for large groups of 33 to 256 participants.

Previously, both voice and video calls in groups were limited to 32 participants, so larger groups have to manually choose which users to include under that threshold. That changed with the new Voice Chat feature, which allows larger groups of 33 to 128 participants, albeit still far below the maximum limit of 1,024 members for every WhatsApp group.

Unlike voice calls, group members won’t receive any sound notifications of Voice Chats. Instead, when you start a Voice Chat, group members will see a pop-up window in the chat group. Group members can then choose to join the voice chat, or ignore it.

WhatsApp Voice Chat : How To Create And Stop It?

Please note that WhatsApp Voice Chat is only enabled for large groups with 33 to 256 participants. It will not appear in smaller, or much larger groups.

Here is how you can create a new Voice Chat in your group.

Step 1 : Open the WhatsApp group, in which you wish to start a Voice Chat.

Step 2 : Tap on the Voice Chat option on the upper right corner of the group chat. The icon has a blue audio wavelength symbol.

If you don’t see the Voice Chat icon, that likely means your WhatsApp group is too small (32 or fewer participants), or is much too large (257 or more participants).

Step 3 : A Voice Chat pop-up will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap on Start voice chat to initiate the voice chat for the entire group.

That’s it! All members in that WhatsApp group will now see a notification about a Voice Chat, which they can join or simply ignore.

Once you wish to end the Voice Chat, simply tap on the red X icon on the pop-up.

As you can see, it’s easy to create a new Voice Chat, and to stop it once you are done.

WhatsApp Voice Chat : Some Important Notes

Please take note of these limitations or possible concerns:

  • Voice chats are only available for groups of 33 to 256 people.
  • This feature is only available on your primary device.
  • Group members not in the voice chat can see the profiles of those in the voice chat from the chat header and the Calls tab.
  • Voice chats will end automatically once everyone has left the chat. They’ll also end if no one joins the first or last person in the chat for 60 minutes.

MeeTime : Free Voice + Video Calls On HUAWEI Devices!

Apple has FaceTime, and now, HUAWEI has MeeTime, offering FREE video and voice calls.

Find out what features HUAWEI MeeTime offers over its competitors!

HUAWEI MeeTime : What Is It?

Like Apple FaceTime, HUAWEI MeeTime is a proprietary video and voice service that FREE video and voice calls, albeit only on their respective devices.

HUAWEI introduced MeeTime in EMUI 10.1, and it currently works with HUAWEI devices like :

But unlike claims of free Internet and calls through BeiDou, MeeTime actually delivers free voice and video calls.

HUAWEI MeeTime : Key Features

Of course, you can already make free voice and video calls on other apps, like WhatsApp and Telegram. So let’s find out what features HUAWEI MeeTime offers over their competitors :

Feature #1 : Full HD Quality

HUAWEI MeeTime supports video calling at resolutions of up to 1080p (Full HD) – 1920 x 1080 pixels.

And thanks to built-in optimisations (see below), it can maintain that video resolution even with weak cellular or Wi-Fi reception.

Feature #2 : Screen Sharing

HUAWEI MeeTime has a two-way Screen Sharing function that lets users share their screens while chatting, which can be extremely useful.

For instance, you can use it to share what flights you just found with your partner, without sending it as a separate message, or interrupting the chat.

Feature #3 : Third Party Support

While HUAWEI MeeTime is a proprietary technology limited to HUAWEI devices, they are encouraging third party vendors to integrate their devices. For example :

  • Kandao Meeting 360° : You can connect your HUAWEI device to this Kandao teleconferencing camera to take advantage of its pro-grade features.
  • Drift Ghost Action Cameras : You can connect your HUAWEI smartphone to a Drift Ghost camera strapped to your vehicle to livestream your adventures.

Feature #4 : Network Adaptation

In poor network conditions, HUAWEI MeeTime dynamically adapts to changes in bandwidth, and uses super resolution technology to compensate for the loss of video quality, in real time.

In addition, it uses the Link Turbo technology to dynamically switch between Wi-Fi and LTE to deliver the best possible speeds, without interruption.

Feature #5 : Low Light Adaptation

HUAWEI MeeTime adapts dynamically to low light conditions, using facial recognition technology and other optimisations.

Feature #6 : End-to-End Encryption

In addition to working only on HUAWEI devices, HUAWEI MeeTime requires you to sign-in with a HUAWEI ID.

To assuage concerns of privacy, all calls are encrypted end-to-end by default. This guarantees that no one else can listen into your conversations.

March 14, 2016LINE Corporation today announced the addition of a new group call feature to the latest version of the LINE app (iPhone and Android v.5.11, and Windows Desktop v.4.5), enabling users to participate in voice calls within their group or multiple person chats.

LINE was released in June 2011 as a group communications service available across multiple devices and network carriers, enabling users around the world to easily keep in touch with friends, family, and coworkers. It launched its free voice call service in October of the same year, and video calls in September 2013, all in an effort to improve the lines of communication between people.

Today, with the release of LINE 5.11 for iPhone and Android, LINE now includes support for voice calls within groups or multiple person chats. The group feature update is also supported on LINE Windows desktop version (v.4.5.)

Free Group Call

The feature offers free voice chats with up to 200 people. Calls can be initiated from within group chats or multiple person chats, and a notification message will be sent to all of the users participating in the chat. The number of people currently participating in the call can also be confirmed from within the chat. An icon is displayed above the user icon of the person currently speaking at the time, enabling users to easily communicate with each other.

The group call feature can be utilized for no charge as long as the user has the LINE app installed, allowing easy communication with a worldwide community of users. The service is perfect for catching up with friends and family, and also for use at work for important conference calls. The possibilities are endless with this tool designed to eliminate the traditional barriers to effective group communication.

“We are constantly innovating the way our users communicate with their friends and family, and this new feature provides an additional way for our users to be closer to their friends and family. At every update we look towards refining the experience to keep up with our users’ needs and demands,” said SunHaeng Cho, the lead planner for group call.

In addition to the new group call feature, the LINE version 5.11 also has a redesigned More screen. The layout of the menu icons in the user interface has been modified for increased visibility and an even greater user experience. The new layout is available for both Android and iOS.
