Can Drinking Fermented Tea Prevent COVID-19?!

Did new Chinese research prove that you can prevent COVID-19 infections by drinking fermented tea?!

Take a look at the viral claim, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : Fermented Tea Can Prevent COVID-19!

This message has gone viral on WhatsApp and social media platforms, claiming that new Chinese research has proven that you can prevent COVID-19 infections by drinking fermented tea!

Chiayi Chang Gung Hospital, and China Medical University published: The so-called principle that drinking tea can prevent coronavirus is as follows:

Scientists put the virus into the tea water and let it stand for 1 minute~ They found that 90% of the virus in the tea water was killed. It can kill 100% if left for 3 minutes. Especially tea species with a high degree of fermentation (such as black tea/Taiwan oolong tea/Pu-erh cooked tea, etc.) have a good bactericidal effect~because the virus survives on the oral and nasal mucosa when it is just infected.

Drinking tea at this time can destroy the virus cell wall and flush the virus into gastric juice to kill the virus. There are tea products with high thearubigin content at home that can be drunk at any time after brewing~ As long as the tea leaves are less irritating, they can be drunk all day without causing headache/stomach pain or scraping of the stomach/tea that does not affect sleep can effectively prevent the epidemic.

Please share this information~ Drink more tea to help yourself and use kind knowledge to help others.

Truth : Fermented Tea Cannot Prevent COVID-19!

This is yet another example of COVID-19 fake news circulating on WhatsApp and social media, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : No Evidence Of Such Research

First, let’s start with the fact that there is no evidence that the Chiayi Chang Gung Hospital, and the China Medical University – both from Taiwan, ever published joint research proving that drinking fermented tea can prevent COVID-19 infections.

Back in March 2020 (before COVID-19 vaccines and treatments were developed) researchers at the Chiayi Chang Gung Hospital’s Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine used a computer program to identify potential antiviral components in traditional plants.

They identified theaflavin – a polyphenolic compound found in black tea leaves, as a potential inhibitor of protease activity in the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Thearubigin mentioned in the viral message is an oxidation product of theaflavin.

The head of that research team, Wu Ching-yuan (吳清源), claimed that its antiviral effect was similar to remdesivir. But since its publication in March 2020, there has been no further development on using theaflavin to treat or prevent COVID-19.

Even remdesivir was found to be ineffective against COVID-19, with the WHO recommending against its use in November 2020.

In any case, the researchers did not even claim that drinking tea – whether black or fermented, can prevent COVID-19 infections.

Fact #2 : SARS-CoV-2 Is A Respiratory Virus

The SARS-CoV-2 virus is a respiratory virus, which means it primarily infects you through your respiratory system, and to a lesser extent – through your eyes.

Therefore, drinking hot water and drinks, even coffee or tea, has absolutely NO EFFECT on the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

This study identifies possible associations between COVID, the vaccine and the development of SJS/TEN.

We propose three theories for this seven-fold increase in case number; a virus induced, a vaccine induced and a threshold lowering pathway.

We advise future research investigates the impact viruses such as SARS-COV-2 have on immune mediated diseases such as SJS/TEN.

Fact #3 : COVID-19 Is A Virus, Not Bacteria

The viral message claims that highly-fermented tea like black tea, Taiwan oolong tea, Pu-erh kills the COVID-19 coronavirus, because they have “good bactericidal activity“.

This is like pointing out that water has good firefighting activity while recommending it for cleaning an oil spill… The creator of this fake news does not seem to understand that SARS-CoV-2 is a virus, not bacteria.

The viral message also wrongly claims that the COVID-19 coronavirus has cell walls. As a virus, SARS-CoV-2 does not have any cell wall. It only has a protective protein coat called a capsid.

Fact #4 : SARS-CoV-2 Is Sensitive To Temperature

It is no surprise that the SARS-CoV-2 virus is sensitive to temperature. This has been confirmed through numerous research early in the pandemic. You don’t even need boiling hot water or tea to kill it!

At normal room temperatures, 90% of the virus will be automatically destroyed / deactivated after 20-50 hours. But if you raise the temperature to just 54.5°C, the time is cut down to less than 1 hour!

Based on those research, conservatively, the COVID-19 coronavirus can be killed by simply heating contaminated objects for:

  • 3 minutes at temperature above 75°C (160°F).
  • 5 minutes for temperatures above 65°C (149°F).
  • 20 minutes for temperatures above 60°C (140°F).

Needless to say, at 100°C, the virus is instantly destroyed. There is no need to leave the virus in boiling hot water / tea for 3 minutes to kill it, as the viral message claims.

Fact #5 : This Is Just COVID-19 Fake News

This is just another example of COVID-19 fake news circulating on WhatsApp and social media. Here are other recent examples:

Find out why this Herbal Visual Team is just a scam, and warn your family and friends!

Scam Alert : Herbal Visual Tea By Li Tianfa / Tianfa Lee!

The Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology (MSO) is warning people again about fake Facebook pages using their photos

Take a look at a selection of fake Facebook pages that the Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology (MSO) identified and shared on their Facebook page.

Why Herbal Visual Tea For Glaucoma / Cataract Is A Scam!

All these fake Facebook pages appear to promote the Herbal Visual Tea by Li Tianfa, who also goes by the name Tianfa Lee.

So why is this Herbal Visual Tea a scam? Here are the facts…

Fact #1 : Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology Warned About This Scam

On 5 January 2021, the Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology reported these scam posts to the police, Facebook and MCMC.

The Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology has been made aware of malicious scammers who have cut and pasted our committee members and other members photos to be used to promote dubious fake eye products or services. We have reported these posts to the Police , Facebook and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) . Please do not respond to these scammers .

That didn’t stop these scammers, who continued to create new fake Facebook pages to promote Herbal Visual Tea.

On 21 May 2021, MSO again warned about these scammers.

The Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology (MSO) strongly condemns the action of certain irresponsible parties who misuse official images from our Society, seemingly endorsing certain health products of dubious benefits. The health claims are callous, misleading and without any sound evidence.

The public is advised against purchasing these products of unknown entity. Existing patients with eye conditions should always consult their eye doctor before stopping their existing medications or trying these alternative treatments.

The Society appreciates those who have notified us of these ads. Please help us to report these ads to Facebook so that we can stop others from being duped into buying these products.

And on 23 September 2021, MSO yet again issued another warning about these scammers.

Fact #2 : Those Fancy Associations Do NOT Exist!

This Li Tianfa / Tianfa Lee claims to have a TON of titles, but if you check them online, these organisations do not really exist!

  • Malaysia Association of Chinese Medicine : Does Not Exist!
  • Professional Chinese Acupuncture Association of Malaysia : Does Not Exist!
  • Indy International University, Malaysia : Does Not Exist!
  • Miaofa Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital : Does Not Exist!

There is a Center for International Exchange of Traditional Chinese Medicine, but he is not listed amongst its many consultants and lecturers.

Malaysian Chinese Medical Association exists, but he is not even in its committee, never mind one of its NINE Vice Presidents!

INTI International University exists, but he does not appear to be in their faculty list.

There is a Miao Fa TCM 妙法中醫 store, but it is a traditional Chinese medicine store, not a hospital!

Here is the kicker – Dr. Li Tianfa is the owner of Miao Fa TCM, and he declared that the Herbal Visual Tea is a SCAM!

So please do NOT blame Dr. Li Tianfa. He appears to be an innocent victim of these scammers, just like all those who were fooled into purchasing the Herbal Visual Tea.

Fact #4 : There Is No Proof This Tea Cures Anything

The Herbal Visual Tea consists of common ingredients like longan, chrysanthemum, honeysuckle, cassia seed, wolfberry, Galli gigeriae endothelium corneum, black sesame and mulberry.

Pretty much ingredients you can buy at any traditional Chinese medicine store!

There is simply NO EVIDENCE that such a concoction can cure glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, optic atrophy, fundus lesions, retinal detachment, vitreous body turbidity, floaters, presbyopia, astigmatism, hyperopia, night blindness and more that the scammers are claiming!

This Visual Herbal Tea is nothing more than a SCAM! Please warn your family and friends!

Can Caffeine, Theophylline, Theobromine Cure COVID-19?

Can methylxanthines like caffeine, theophylline and theobromine cure or prevent COVID-19?

Take a look at the evergreen claim, and find out what the FACTS really are!

Claim : Caffeine, Theophylline, Theobromine Prevents COVID-19!

This “Breaking News from CNN” is going viral on WhatsApp, claiming that Theophylline, Theobromine and Methylxanthine can cure or prevent COVID-19!

Breaking News from CNN :-

Documented casefiles for research purposes had in the case files a proposed cure that would significantly decrease the impact of the COVID – 19 Virus on the human body. The chemical Methylxanthine, Theobromine and Theophylline stimulate compounds that can ward off these virus in a human with atleast an average immune system.

Whats more shocking is that these complex words that were so difficult for people in China to understand is actually called COFFEE * in India, YES, our regular COFFEE has all these chemicals already in it.

The main Methylxanthine in COFFEE is the stimulant caffeine. Other Methylxanthines found in COFFEE are two chemically similar compounds, Theobromine and Theophylline. The COFFEE plant creates these chemicals as a way to ward off insects and other animals.

Who would have known that all the solution to these virus would be a simple cup of COFFEE and that is the reason so many patients in China are being cured. The hospital staff in china has started serving COFFEE to the patients 3 times a day, And the effect is finally in *Wuhan “The centre of this Pandemic” has been contained and community transmission has almost stopped.

Please Share this message to your friends and family to make them aware about this blessing in the form of COFFEE in your kitchen. DRINK MORE COFFEE

Forwarded as received.

Truth : Caffeine, Theophylline, Theobrominee Cannot Cure COVID-19!

The truth is – this is an updated version of the coffee can cure and prevent COVID-19 fake news from 2020.

The fake news creator removed references to Dr. Li Wenliang and attributes the discovery to “documented casefiles for research purposes“.

Here are the facts, and reasons why this is nothing more than another example of COVID-19 fake news…

Fact #1 : There Is No Such CNN News Report

A quick check of the CNN website and Google reveals that there is no such CNN news report, claiming that caffeine, theophylline and theobromine can cure or prevent COVID-19.

There is certainly no CNN report on the Chinese using coffee to cure or prevent COVID-19 infections.

Fact #2 : Methylxanthines Are Found In Chocolate, Coffee & Tea

Methylxanthines (or methylated xanthines) are a group of chemicals which include caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine. They are found not only in tea, but also chocolate and coffee.

Theophylline is predominant in tea, while theobromine is abundant in chocolate, and caffeine is the main methylxanthine in coffee.

If methylxanthines can really prevent COVID-19, why didn’t the writer suggest eating chocolate and drinking both coffee and tea for maximum effect?

Fact #3 : China Consumes More Coffee Than India

The Chinese may not drink as much coffee as they do tea, but it is really racist to say that unlike Indians, the Chinese do not know that coffee contains those compounds.

In 2019, the 1.43 billion Chinese population consumed US$8.2 BILLION worth of coffee, while the 1.37 billion Indian population consumed only US$903 MILLION worth of coffee.

In other words, the Chinese consume 8.7X more coffee per capita than the Indians. Could that suggest they are probably more aware of its health benefits?

Fact #4 : Caffeine, Theophylline, Theobromine Cannot Cure Or Prevent COVID-19

If caffeine, theophylline and theobromine can prevent COVID-19, countries with high coffee consumption would see far fewer cases.

Yet the top 5 consumers of coffee in the world – Iceland, Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland – have over 4.5 million COVID-19 infections as of 22 October 2021, while China only has just over 96,700 infections.

Those 5 countries have a population of only 42 million, while China has 34X more people – 1.43 billion of them!

In other words, drinking coffee appears to make people 1584X more likely to get infected by COVID-19!

Of course, we are not so silly as to make that claim, because correlation does NOT mean causation!

But what we can say is that statistically, drinking coffee does not appear to help cure or prevent COVID-19.

Fact #5 : COVID-19 Vaccines Prevent COVID-19!

As of 22 October 2021, monoclonal antibodies can treat early COVID-19, while dexamethasone can reduce mortality in severe COVID-19.

Fortunately, we now have several vaccines that can prevent COVID-19, including :

So the best way to protect yourself isn’t to drink coffee, but to take an approved COVID-19 vaccine ASAP!

Did The Chinese Use Tea To Cure COVID-19 In Wuhan?

Did the Chinese use tea to cure COVID-19 in Wuhan? Together with chloroquine, it’s the latest miracle cure for COVID-19 circulating on the Internet.

Let’s take a look at the claim, and find out if it’s true that the Chinese are using tea to cure COVID-19!

Claim : Dr. Li Wenliang Discover Tea As COVID-19 Cure…?

Credit for this discovery that tea cures COVID-19 is being attributed to Dr. Li Wenliang, the famous whistleblowing doctor, who sadly passed away from the new coronavirus…

Breaking News from CNN :-

Dr. Li Wenliang, China’s hero doctor who was punished for telling the truth about Corona Virus and later died due to the same disease, had documented casefiles for research purposes and had in the casefiles proposed a cure that would significantly decrease the impact of the COVID – 19 Virus on the human body.

The chemical Methylxanthine, Theobromine and Theophylline stimulate compounds that can ward off these virus in a human with atleast an average immune system.

Whats more shocking is that these complex words that were so difficult for people in China to understand is actually called Tea in India, YES, our regular Tea has all these chemicals already in it.

The main Methylxanthine in tea is the stimulant caffeine. Other Methylxanthines found in tea are two chemically similar compounds, Theobromine and Theophylline. The tea plant creates these chemicals as a way to ward off insects and other animals.

Who would have known that all the solution to these virus would be a simple cup of TEA. and that is the reason so many patients in China are being cured.

The hospital staff in china has started serving tea to the patients 3 times a day, And the effect is finally in Wuhan “The centre of this Pandemic” has been contained and community transmission has almost stopped.

Please Share this message to your friends and family to make them aware about this blessing in the form of TEA in your kitchen.

Why Dr. Li Wenliang Did NOT Discover Tea As COVID-19 Cure

Sadly, this is yet another Internet hoax. Dr. Li Wenliang did not document any case files for research purposes, or proposed any cure for COVID-19.

Neither are the Chinese using tea to cure COVID-19 patients in Wuhan. Here’s how we know that…

There Is No Such CNN News Report

A quick check of the CNN website and Google reveals that there is no such CNN news report, claiming that Dr. Li Wenliang proposed tea as a cure, or the the Chinese were using tea to cure COVID-19 patients in Wuhan.

Dr. Li Wenliang Was An Ophthalmologist

Dr. Li Wenliang, who was one of several whistleblowing doctors raising alarm about the new virus, was an ophthalmologist.

As such, he would have treated eye conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and the like. Not viruses like COVID-19.

His tale in this COVID-19 tragedy was raising the alarm first set off by ER doctor, Dr. Ai Fen, who shared a patient’s report with her former classmates and colleagues.

Methylxanthines Are Found In Chocolate, Coffee & Tea

Methylxanthines (or methylated xanthines) are a group of chemicals which include caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine. They are found not only in tea, but also chocolate and coffee.

Theophylline is predominant in tea, while theobromine is abundant in chocolate, and caffeine is the main methylxanthine in coffee.

If methylxanthines are really the “cure” for COVID-19, why didn’t the writer suggest eating chocolate and drinking both coffee and tea for maximum effect?

Tea Cannot Cure / Prevent COVID-19

The Chinese drink a prodigious amount of tea, consuming almost 18 billion US dollars worth in 2017.

If tea can cure or prevent COVID-19, they would literally be immune to COVID-19.

Yet, China currently has the most COVID-19 cases in the world, as of 24 March 2020 – over 18 thousand infected, with over 3,200 deaths.

There Is Currently No Cure For COVID-19

As of 24 March 2020, there is no known cure or treatment for COVID-19.

To make it clear to everyone, the US FDA issued a statement on 19 March, reiterating once again that “there are no FDA-approved therapeutics or drugs to treat, cure or prevent COVID-19.
