Was There Mass Looting At London’s Oxford Street?!

Was there mass looting at London’s Oxford Street, as part of a crime wave in Western countries?!

Take a look at the viral video, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : Mass Looting At London’s Oxford Street!

Pro-CCP netizens, as well as the Chinese 50 Cent Army (wumao, 五毛), are sharing a video which appears to show mass looting at London’s Oxford Street, with claims that this is part of a crime wave in Western countries!

Truth : There Was No Mass Looting At London’s Oxford Street!

This is yet another example of misinformation and propaganda created by the Chinese 50 Cent Army (wumao, 五毛), and shared by anti-West netizens, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : Video Originated In TikTok

First, the video originated in TikTok, with the poster describing it as a “mass looting stunt” that was planned on social media:

Chaos erupts on Oxford Street amid reports of ‘mass looting stunt’ planned on social media #london #oxfordstreet #clash #chaos #looting #stunt #shopping #shops #uk #news #fyp #foryoupage

Fact #2 : It Only Targeted JD Sports

The so-called looting did not occur at multiple stores at London’s Oxford Street. Rather, it only targeted one store – the JD Sports outlet nearest to Oxford Circus.

There are actually three JD Sports outlets along Oxford Street, but the outlet at 197-203 Oxford Street is the closest to Oxford Circus.

Fact #3 : It Was A TikTok + Snapchat Stunt

This was not the typical looting that has been going on in certain cities like San Francisco, for example.

The truth is – this was initiated by posts on TikTok and Snapchat calling on users to take part in an “Oxford Circus JD Robbery” at 3 PM on Wednesday, 9 August 2023.

The TikTok and Snapchat posts encouraged yobs (British slang for louts) to follow the dress code of balaclavas and gloves, with the warning – “Don’t come if you can’t run. Don’t come if you’re loud. Don’t come with any weapons“.

London mayor, Sadiq Khan, even issued a warning about the TikTok craze:

I am worried about this nonsense we have seen on TikTok encouraging people to go to Oxford Street.

Recommended : Did Asian Lady Shoot American Bully At Gas Station?!

Fact #4 : There Was No Looting

The viral TikTok and Snapchat posts caught the attention of the Metropolitan Police, which sent dozens of police officers to proactively prevent the “mass looting” event, should it actually take place.

We are aware of online speculation about opportunities to commit crime around Oxford Street. There will be a significant number of our officers in the area over the next 24 hours.

Mounted police officers on horses patrolled Oxford Street, while police officers formed human shields around shops. In the end, hundreds of teenagers gathered outside the JD Sports outlet, but no actual looting took place.

Just after 3 PM, two young men were detained outside McDonald’s near JD Sports. By 8 PM, the Metropolitan police issued 34 dispersal orders and arrested nine people.

Four people were arrested on suspicion of breaching the dispersal order, one person was arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal, one person arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, and one person was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.

Earlier in the afternoon, officers arrested two people in Essex for conspiracy to commit robbery following online social media posts.

However, no actual looting took place at JD Sports or any other store along Oxford Street that day.

Fact #5 : Most People Were There To Take Photos / Videos

While several people were arrested at the “mass looting” event, it appears that most people were there to take photos or videos of any looting that might actually occur due to the “TikTok craze”.

When British media interviewed people at the scene, many said that they were just there to record the “event”:

Harry, 14, from Islington : I’m not here to steal anything, I’ve been raised better than that. I just want to record it.

CJ, 16, from Hertfordshire : We’re not here to steal stuff – there’s loads of famous people making videos. We just saw loads of police and want to see what it’s about.

Many teenagers shared the photos and videos they took on TikTok and Snapchat, some of which appear in the video above.

Fact #9 : This Is Just CCP Propaganda

This is really nothing more than yet another example of CCP propaganda created / promoted by the infamous Chinese 50 Cent Army (wumao, 五毛).

All of the wumao articles that I looked at so far have proven to be false in most instances. So please watch out for such false claims. Here is just the latest dozen,.

Fact Check : Lincoln Memorial Defaced By BLM Protestors!

Did Black Lives Matter protestors deface the famous Abraham Lincoln statue at the Lincoln Memorial?

Find out if the Lincoln Memorial was really vandalised, and what the FACTS really are!

Claim : Lincoln Memorial Defaced By BLM Protestors!

Black Lives Matter protestors are being accused of defacing the famous Abraham Lincoln statue at the Lincoln Memorial, and here is the picture to prove it!

This picture of the Abraham Lincoln statue spray painted with graffiti has been shared on Facebook, Twitter, etc. as evidence of the Black Lives Matter movement’s complete lack of respect for sacred American monuments.

The graffiti had messages like Black + Brown Lives Matter, #BLM, Justice, The Real Martyrs, George Floyd.

Lincoln Memorial Defaced By BLM Protestors : The Facts

Fact #1 : The Picture Is Fake

The picture is fake, and was edited by mapping graffiti over a picture of the Abraham Lincoln statue.

The creator did a poor job of it, lopping off the left side of the head. If that was intentionally meant to look like protestors did it, it was done badly.

The graffiti also looked odd, because he/she was mapping a 2D image over what’s really a 3D object.

Fact #2 : The Lincoln Memorial Was Protected By The National Guard

It would also be quite a feat for the BLM protestors to vandalise the Abraham Lincoln statue itself, since the DC National Guard was deployed to protect it.

Fact #3 : An Outer Column Was Slightly Spray-Painted

One of the outer columns at the Lincoln Memorial had Yall Not Tired Yet? spray-painted in black on the night of 30 May 2020.

However, there is no way to know whether BLM protestors or anti-protestors was responsible. The message is ambiguous.

Photo Credit : Carolyn Kaster, early Sunday May 31, 2020

Further down, the National World War II Memorial was vandalised, this time with a clearer meaning – Do Black Vets Count?

Fact #4 : National Mall and Memorial Parks Confirmed The Limited Damage

National Mall and Memorial Parks confirmed both graffitis and cleaned them up by 4 June 2020.

Fact #5 : The Lincoln Memorial Had Been Vandalised In The Past

Frankly speaking, this isn’t the first time the Lincoln Memorial was vandalised or defaced. In fact, someone actually sprayed green paint on the Abraham Lincoln statue in 2013!

In 2017, explicit graffiti was spray-painted on an inner column in the Lincoln Memorial.

Disinformation Campaigns

This fake picture is part of a slew of similar fake news about the George Floyd / BLM protests in the US :

So beware of similar fake posts, because they appear to be part of disinformation campaigns.

George Floyd Challenge Exposed : Racist + Dangerous!

Heard of the George Floyd Challenge? It’s the new social media challenge that just started on Snapchat, TikTok, Reddit and Facebook.

Find out what the George Floyd Challenge is all about, and why NO ONE should do it!

George Floyd Challenge : What Is It?

The George Floyd Challenge is a new social media challenge, which involves taking pictures or a video of one person kneeling on another person’s neck for 8-9 minutes.

The idea is to prove that Derek Chauvin, the Minnesota police officer who kneeled on George Floyd, could not possibly be responsible for his death.

George Floyd Challenge : Racist + Dangerous!

Derek Chauvin’s supporters believe that he did not cause George Floyd to die, simply by kneeling on his neck. So they recreated the act, which eventually became known as the George Floyd Challenge.

No one should perform it because it can injure or even kill the play-victim. Parents should definitely warn their children not to mimic these idiots!

Even if you lack empathy, understand that attempting such a racist act will ruin your life. Your reputation and future will be destroyed if you do this.

Don’t believe me? Look at what happened to those who performed this racist and dangerous challenge!

27 May 2020

The first public example was probably what Dave Hollenbeck, a school wrestling coach, posted on 27 May 2020 :

Not dead yet I’m doing this for Are (our) police officers the media is a race baiting machine and I’m tired of it I’m going to speak out every time if you don’t like that I’m sorry but I love All people.. Wake up America.

Dave was quickly dismissed by the Bethel School District. And even when he tried to start a GoFundMe campaign, it was quickly deactivated, with just $50 raised.

28 May 2020

Two construction workers in Bethel, Minnesota, attempted the George Floyd Challenge, claiming “Ivan said he can fully breathe with all my weight on his neck”.

The outrage forced Shade Tree Construction’s owner Mark Strandlund to fire both workers, one of whom was his own son. Even so, Housing First Minnesota dropped Shade Tree Construction as a member.

They were later identified as Ivan Fields (the man on the ground), and Austin Strandlund (owner’s son), both seniors at the Legacy Christian Academy…

29 May 2020

Two white female high school seniors posted a video on Snapchat performing the challenge, with the caption “Aw ging can’t breathe“.

One girl is seen kneeling over the other, who shouts that she cannot breathe, while they both laugh. A third person can be heard cheering them on, saying, “You can do it!”

Both students have now been forced to rescind their enrolments into the University of Missouri and the Missouri State University.

30 May 2020

Three English teenagers – two 19-years old and one 18-years old – posted a Snapchat video of the George Floyd Challenge, which was shared on the Warwick University freshers Facebook page.

On 31 May 2020, the Northumbria Police arrested all three of them, and are investigating the incident as a hate crime.

And it looks like they will no longer be joining Warwick University, as planned…

30 May 2020

Evan Rolla, a fitness instructor at LA Fitness in West Palm Beach, Florida, posted his George Floyd Challenge pictures on Facebook. He lost his job.

2 June 2020

Two English men from north-east Fife posted this picture on Snapchat, with the caption “George floyd challenge 2020“.

One of them – a 26-year old man – was arrested by Police Scotland the next day.

2 June 2020

Two students from the Gray Stone Day School (Grades 6-12) posted this picture on Snapchat, with the caption “george floyd challenge“.

On 4 June 2020, the school posted this statement (partial) :

This post and others like it are clear acts of hate and racism that are without question unacceptable. While this did occur outside of the school, we have a moral obligation to hold students to a higher standard.

We are appalled by this, and we will adhere to legal guidelines for public schools as they relate to the discipline of a minor.

4 June 2020

This couple posted their version of the challenge on Facebook, with the man actually wearing a blue I Can’t Breathe t-shirt!

Paula McGuigan initially claimed she was hacked, but later removed her Facebook page and apologised for posting the picture :

I know that there was a Facebook post with me in it and I can see how this truly looks disrespectful to the death of George Floyd.

This was 100% not the intent of this post. I would never disrespect the death of any innocent person no matter what their race is.

Hien is Asian and we were trying to say that Asian Lives matter as do all races. I look at the post and am so remorseful that this was done. I 100% stand f or justice and equality for all walks of life.

Again my deepest apologies and regrets for this poor taste post. A lesson very well learned that sometimes what we are trying to say does not come across.

4 June 2020

These two racist fools were identified as Sergio Gomez and Alejandro Taranzo, both students of the University of Maryland (UMD), which quickly responded on Friday, 5 May 2020 :

We learned via social media of two individuals who reenacted the unacceptable and tragic death of George Floyd. We are outraged and condemn these actions and images in no uncertain terms. The individuals involved were immediately referred to the Office of Student Conduct.
