This message and photo is being shared on WhatsApp, claiming that all passport collection has been shifted to Shaftsbury PJ.
Do u know that for all passport via online application/ renewals .. the collection centre is now here at Shaftsbury PJ.

Truth : Passport Collections Have Not Been Shifted To Shaftsbury PJ!
This is yet another example of fake news circulating on WhatsApp and Telegram, and here are reasons why…
Fact #1 : It’s Shaftsbury Putrajaya, Not PJ
First, let me just point out that there is no Shaftsbury PJ (Petaling Jaya).
The new Malaysia Immigration passport office is located at the Shaftsbury Putrajaya – a 3-story shopping mall located in Presint 1, Putrajaya.
You can even see it in the viral photo above. It’s stated clearly – Pejabat Passport Shaftsbury Putrajaya. Why would anyone falsely claimed that the new passport office is called Shaftsbury PJ???
Fact #2 : Shaftsbury Putrajaya Passport Office Is Small
The Shaftsbury Putrajaya passport office is just a new branch office for the Malaysia Immigration Department. It also appears to be rather small in size, as the official Imigresen TV video below shows.
The Shaftsbury Putrajaya passport office is not designed to handle all passport collection across Malaysia.
In fact, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said in July 2023, that the Shaftsbury Putrajaya passport office will cater to people living around the Putrajaya area, such as Serdang, Sungai Besi, Dengkil, Cyberjaya, Bangi, and Cheras.
To be clear – passport collection has not been shifted to this new Shaftsbury Putrajaya passport office!
Fact #3 : Shaftsbury Putrajaya Limits Walk-In Passport Renewals
You cannot just walk into the Shaftsbury Putrajaya passport office to renew your expired / expiring passport.
As we explained since May 2022, the Malaysia Immigration Department limits walk-in renewals of passports to:
- People applying for a new passport
- Senior citizens (60 years and older)
- Special needs individuals (must bring Social Welfare Department registration card)
- Children who are less than 13 years old
- People planning to perform the Haj (must bring the Tabung Haji offer letter)
- Students (less than 21 years old) planning to study overseas
- People who lost their passports (will require a police report)
- People with damaged passports
Everyone else will have to renew their passports online! The official Imigresen TV video below also mentions this.

Fact #4 : No Passport Office Can Handle All Collections!
In the first half of 2023 alone, the Immigration Department issued over 1.6 million passports. It would not be possible for a single passport office to handle the collection of all of those passports.
In fact, the Putrajaya headquarters of the Malaysia Immigration Department only processed and issued 68,416 of those 1.6 million passports!
It is also not logical to consolidate passport collection in a single office. Not only will people have to fly or drive from all over Malaysia to Shaftsbury Putrajaya to collect their passports, there would be massive queues of tens of thousands of people!
Fact #5 : Other Passport Offices Are Still Handling Passport Collection
If you go to the Malaysia Immigration Department’s official online passport application page, you can click on the list of available branches for passport collection.
As of 2 February 2024, here is the full list of available Malaysia Immigration Department offices where you can choose to collect your passport from:
Alor Setar
Batu Pahat
Besut
If you scroll through the list, you can see that Shaftsbury Putrajaya is merely one of the many passport offices available for you to select as a collection point.
