Exclusive : Tanduay Distillers Factory Visit + Rum Tasting Tips!

Famed Filipino rum company, Tanduay, invited us to their main distillery in Manila to showcase their latest digital transformation initiative with SAP S/4HANA. We were also given an exclusive tour of their plant, and privileged to learn how to taste rum from mixologist and Tanduay brand ambassador Lee Watson.

Tanduay Makes The World’s Best-Selling Rum

A 164-year old brand, Tanduay rose from humble beginnings to establish itself as the world’s top-selling rum brand in 2018, taking over the crown long held by Bacardi.

After its acquisition by the Lucio Tan group 30 years ago, the brand underwent plant modernisation and expansions, which greatly increased their production capacity. Today, they have three separate facilities – all ISO-compliant, with the Cabuyao plant recently completing its ISO-9001:2015 certification.

In 2014, Tanduay Distillers Inc. President and CEO, Lucio “Bong” K. Tan Jr, took over the reins of the company. He kickstarted the global expansion of the brand. that ultimately led to Tanduay wresting the crown from Bacardi in just 4 years.

Recently, Tanduay opted to begin their digital transformation by adopting SAP S/4HANA, with seven modules – Materials Management, Production Planning, Warehouse Maintenance, Sales and Distribution, Enterprise Asset Management, Finance and Controlling.

Adopting S/4HANA would allow them to greatly automate their current processes, and cut the number of steps from procurement to the delivery of the final product. It will also allow them to greatly reduce paperwork, and the workload of their staff.

Lee Watson Teaches How To Taste Rum!

Tanduay also took the opportunity to showcase their famous Gold and Silver Asian Rum. They brought in mixologist and Tanduay brand ambassador Lee Watson to teach us how to taste rum. Now you can learn from him, and give it a try too!

The New SAP Digital Boardroom Revealed

SAP is going big in the Big Data bandwagon with the launch of the SAP Digital Boardroom.  The SAP Digital Boardroom is a planned breakthrough digital approach that aims to contextualize and simply performance reporting across all areas of business in real time. It is built on the SAP BusinessObjects Cloud Solution and could utilise data from the SAP S/4HANA suite and SAP HANA Cloud Platform.

The SAP Digital Boardroom

The SAP Digital Boardroom provides a dashboard that gives a live snapshot of the performance and operations of the company in a heavily visualized manner to aid in the decision making process. Such data and analytics would be useful in a real board meeting.

Members of the media were given a live demo on the SAP Digital Boardroom where live visualization on SAP’s performance were shown.

The SAP Digital Boardroom also features a predictive analysis function where it could simulate the performance of the business in real time simply by adjusting certain variables.

In the presentation, we were shown the impact of a 30% increase in SAP server’s capacity to the bottom line of SAP.

Such simulation is done by simply dragging a slider and the ability to simulate such performance in a live environment will change how board meetings are conducted where strategic decisions can be simulated and decisions made more quickly. This is crucial today where businesses are expected to be more agile in today’s environment.

According to Terrence Yong, Managing Director of SAP Malaysia, “SAP Digital Boardroom is able to provide total transparency to the C-Suite executives, consisting of board members and decision-makers, with a comprehensive, real-tim eview of business performance across the entire company.

The SAP Digital Boardroom can be utilized to aid not only at the highest board level but could also be used at the operations level. We were then presented with a simulation of how SAP Digital Boardroom could be used in a stadium. The Digital Boardroom would allow the operations manager to have a live view of everything that is happening in the stadium to assist with crowd control. Once again, the predictive analysis comes in handy where it could predict if the visitors to the stadium would arrive punctually depending on weather forecast and traffic data which is fed into the SAP system.

It would be interesting to see how companies would embrace the SAP Digital Boardroom but if configured correctly, it will certainly transform the way oversight processes are performed.

SAP Digital Experience Report : Malaysians Are Not Happy

SAP today released the results of their inaugural SAP Digital Experience Report. Conducted among 500 participants requiring them to rate about 1400 digital engagements, the survey reveals that Malaysia only achieved a DX (Digital Experience) score of 17%.

The DX score is derived as the difference between consumers who are delighted with their digital experience (43%) and consumers who are unsatisfied (26%) with their digital experience. There is certainly much room for improvement here given that the average score in the region comes up to 27%.

The SAP Digital Experience Report was presented by Terrence Yong, Managing Director of SAP Malaysia who said “Malaysia is at an exciting time in its development. With 14 million digital consumers, digital is becoming a part of our daily lives. This rapid growth is also making consumers in Malaysia more sophisticated in their digital preference. To help them navigate through a multitude of devices and apps, customers are demanding simple, seamless and personalized experiences across any channel, anytime, anywhere, and on any device. As evident from SAP’s Digital Experience Report, brands that fail to realize this will see a drop in share of consumer’s wallet”

Key Findings From The SAP Digital Experience Report

Here are the key finding from the report:

  1. Consumers in Malaysia are, on average, delighted with their digital experiences
  2. There is a strong correlation between digital experience and net promoter score (NPS) and loyalty
  3. There is a strong correlation between digital experience performance and customers’ willingness to provide private data

It is interesting to note that despite all the concerns about privacy and security of personal data, consumers are very willing to divulge sensitive personal data to brands that they trust (or in this case satisfied with). This includes data on personal profile, main financial institutions, education level, occupation level, buying preferences, health or medical records, personal finances, mobile phone records, social media usage and even web browsing history.

These kind of data is crucial to businesses today especially in the world of Big Data and IoT where SAP could develop solutions to make sense of these unstructured data into structured data to assist business in the ever changing business environment. With these data at hand, businesses will also be able to provide a more personalized solutions and products to its customers.

[adrotate banner=”4″]

SAP in its report then reveals some of the key factors which matter most to consumers that will help them to improve their digital experience. The top 3 factors which consumers find most important being:

  1. Safety and security
  2. Availability at any time
  3. Cohesive, integrated and simple

So what does this mean to the digital business? To excel digitally, brands must align their people and processes – not just in their marketing or digital teams, but across lines of business – onto a single platform architect-ed with the customer in mind.

To engage the customer digitally, businesses will have to engage the workforce and suppliers – and to marshal all of the assets to enable the elusive delightful digital experience. SAP calls this platform the digital business framework.

SAP Gives Deutscher Fussball-Bund Tactical Edge In Euro 2016

Technology and sports, while not altogether a new thing has so far remained a relatively small trend. However, during the World Cup 2014, SAP and the German team made a big bang and took football to the next level.

The SAP Match Insights solution for football that ran on the HANA platform facilitated the analysis of training, preparation and tournaments. It also gave coaches the unprecedented ability to process vast amounts of data to find and assess key situations in each match to improve player and team performance.

Now come 2016, SAP and DFB are looking to take it to the next level at the European Championship with new technology from SAP. For the upcoming European Championship, SAP has helped DFB create a game plan which includes the development of two new prototype technologies exclusively for DFB and powered by the SAP HANA Cloud Platform.

“Digitalization affects our entire economy and society, and is also entering the world of sports. SAP and DFB teamed up to spearhead this digital transformation and to take football to the next level,” said Bernd Leukert, Member of the Executive Board, SAP. “With SAP Challenger Insights and the penalty insights function for SAP Sports One, we are putting the power of real-time data and information directly into the hands of coaches and players.”

[adrotate banner=”5″]

HANA Cloud to provide unique tactical insight

The first, SAP Challenger Insights, helps the team prepare for each of their European Championship matches by providing data driven insights surrounding an opponent’s offensive and defensive tendencies, formations, and more. Accessed through the SAP HANA Cloud Platform, coaches can review the opposing team’s tactical characteristics and create an assumed match plan. The data is available through iPads that DFB players have in their lockers prior to a match or during halftime and delivers the assumed game plan of the opposing team so the team can familiarize themselves with opponent tendencies and reference past video replays.

Secondly, the Penalty Insights Function in SAP Sports One, a new functionality, powered by the SAP HANA Cloud Platform, provides goalkeepers and goalkeeping coaches with insights into the tactical behavior related to penalty kicks of all teams and players competing in the tournament. The team can search the top five or more players most likely to take penalty kicks, the areas of the goal they usually aim at, specific shot characteristics such as the player’s run, and also watch corresponding video clips in real time.

“Together with SAP, we have created a match plan that puts the power of real-time data and information into our hands and helps us gain a competitive edge,” said Oliver Bierhoff, Manager of the German National Football team and SAP ambassador.

Additionally, building off the success of the Football World Championships in 2014, SAP made extensive enhancements to previously released technologies that played a significant role in the German National Team’s success resulting in their 4th Championship.
Given the stunning success of their prior co-operative efforts, there is no doubt that many will be eager to see how much farther technology can raise the bar in this sport that has captured the hearts of millions of fans worldwide.

ACM Adopts SAP S/4HANA To Support Regional Expansion

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 18 May 2016 – SAP has concluded the rollout of SAP S/4HANA Finance on the SAP HANA platform for Alliance Contract Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (ACM) through systems integrator, Brightree Solutions Sdn Bhd.

These solutions will be integrated into ACM’s existing organisational environment for visibility into operations, enabling integration between business areas throughout the company’s value chain and a flexible, scalable system to quickly accommodate change.

ACM Adopts SAP S/4HANA

ACM is a manufacturer of precision machined components, motors, electromechanical assemblies, sheet metals and welded frames, which provides turnkey manufacturing solutions for commercial and industrial equipment.

A longstanding SAP customer since 2002, ACM was facing challenges in securing integrated and real-time information between different business areas and across business information challenges.

To achieve their growth plan and to reach their business aim of establishing a niche in the global outsourcing arena, ACM turned to SAP to help them upgrade their current capabilities, to prepare the organisation for planned expansion.

“It is part of ACM’s strategy to build our business on a world-class ICT solution, with built-in best practices, extensive and global support structure, highly scalable with continuous innovations. We felt that as an industry leader, SAP would fit the bill,” said ACM Senior Manager (Head of IT) Erik Looi.

[adrotate group=”1″]

Superior capabilities in end-to-end solution handling across entire value chain

Due to their decade long business collaboration, ACM decided on SAP and Brightree Solutions Sdn Bhd as the vendor of choice to meet their needs.

ACM chose SAP as they offered superior capabilities in end-to-end solution handling across the entire value chain, expertise in systems for real-time information for decision-making and offered globally proven solutions, said Looi.

In keeping with the strengths of SAP HANA deployments, the SAP HANA database implementation was completed within three months, with SAP S/4HANA Finance taking an additional three months. The solutions implemented so far have positively impacted all business functions throughout the value chain for ACM.

“Although we have only just completed this implementation, we are excited to expect a 20% increase in procurement savings in the future, be provided with the ability to maintain a 30% reduced inventory levels and as a result, reduce uncollectable accounts receivable by up to 50%,” said Looi. “Facing a challenging business environment, these achievements are significant and enable us to compete much more effectively, across the board,” Looi added.

With the new solutions, ACM now has the flexibility to cater to various business scenarios and to fulfil their own customer requirements for faster delivery.  There is greater control through the new highly scalable system that can quickly integrate their subsidiaries and provide easy data access and visibility to the business. Such changes will allow for more frequent reporting, fewer latency periods and faster operations, leading to better informed decisions.

Based on the outstanding results of the SAP implementation, ACM will seek to further create value for its customers this year by implementing SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Management at their overseas plants in the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.

Meanwhile, Brightree Solutions managing partner Phuah Ewe Cheng said: “We are extremely pleased that ACM can now reimagine finance in today’s era of the digital economy, through optimising processes, as well as run on-the-fly analysis, amongst many other innovative business benefits.”

At SAP’s end, managing director Terrence Yong said that through SAP S/4HANA Finance, ACM can now drive massive process and technology simplification with a system that removes data replications, reconciliations, and redundancies.

“To partake of these business benefits, ACM have accelerated their financial transformation, so as to realise greater productivity and efficiencies to support ACM’s planned expansion,” said Yong.

He continued, “SAP is committed to helping enterprises achieve unprecedented business value with innovative use cases in core areas such as finance, to take full advantage of a simplified data architecture and a responsive user experience. With SAP S/4HANA, SAP is helping our customers to evolve in the digital economy with a solution that provides the most value through digitizing end-to-end operations” he added.
