Samsung is set to reveal the new Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 foldable smartphones at the Galaxy Unpacked event on August 10, 2022!

 

Samsung To Reveal Z Flip 4, Z Fold 4 On 10 Aug 2022!

It’s official – Samsung will hold its Galaxy Unpacked event for foldable smartphones on 10 August 2022!

The teaser invitation cannot be clearer about their foldable intentions, using the side profile of what looks like the upcoming Galaxy Fold 4 smartphone mimicking the “greater than” symbol (>).

Innovation isn’t just about radical ideas; it’s about unlocking new experiences that transform our daily lives for the better. Meaningful innovations go beyond the technical and provide a platform upon which our everyday lives become richer and more versatile — opening us up to greater possibilities than ever before.

While you won’t get the full details until the Galaxy Unpacked event on 10 August 2022, the teaser invitation photo suggests that the Galaxy Flip 4 will at least look like the Galaxy Flip 3.

It would have the same shape, a dual camera module at the back, and side-mounted power button with an integrated fingerprint reader.

We can also expect two new smartwatches from Samsung – a smaller Galaxy Watch 5, and a larger Galaxy Watch 5 Pro (would have been called Classic). But if leaks are true – Samsung will be dropping the unique and incredibly useful rotating bezel.

Samsung is also expected to launch the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, offering a step-up in wireless audio to pair with their new foldable smartphones.

On 11 August 2021, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic, and here is everything you need to know!

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic are the first smartwatches to feature the new Samsung Wear OS, built jointly with Google and featuring One UI Watch – Samsung’s most intuitive user interface.

Both smartwatches are built around the Exynos W920 – a 5 nm dual-core mobile SoC with 20% faster CPU performance and a GPU 10X faster than the last generation.

Samsung also increased the resolution of the display, up to 450 x 450 pixels, and double their memory to 1.5 GB of RAM.

It has 16 GB of built-in storage, which allows you to store your favourite apps, music and photos – all secured by the Samsung Knox security platform.

But arguably the most important thing is its new 3-in-1 BioActive Sensor, which monitors your heart rate, heart electrical impulses and bioelectrical impedance.

It also comes with an all-new Body Composition measurement tool, to give you a deeper understanding of your general health and fitness, with key measurements like skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water and body fat percentage.

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event will be held virtually, and streamed on Samsung official websites, YouTube and Facebook.

The livestream starts on 11 August at these times globally :

  • Malaysia + Singapore : 10 PM (GMT+8)
  • US : 10 AM EDT / 7 AM PDT
  • UK : 3 PM
  • India : 7:30 PM IST
  • Australia : 12 AM AEST (12 August)

Find out how to protect yourself against COVID-19 by keeping your mobile devices clean, with some help from Samsung!

Note : While Samsung helped us with this article, their cleaning advice will work for mobile devices from other brands as well.

 

COVID-19 : Why You Must Keep Your Mobile Devices Clean!

We are all well-versed about hand-washing and wearing face masks to protect against COVID-19. But most of us forget about cleaning our mobile devices as well!

On average, we pick up our smartphone about 52 times a day. And wearables like smartphones are with us for most of the day. That makes them potential sources of contamination.

After all, the COVID-19 coronavirus – SARS-CoV-2 – has been shown to survive on plastic and metal surfaces for 2-3 days.

 

Warning : Don’t Damage Your Mobile Device!

Before we start, we need to point out that cleaning your mobile devices the wrong way can damage them, or even void your warranty.

For instance, all mobile devices have liquid contact indicators built in. If any come into contact with liquid – including alcohol – it will void your smartphone’s warranty.

Some mobile devices are water-resistant, which makes them easier to clean. But cleaning them the wrong way can damage the oleophobic coating that protects their displays.

So here are Samsung’s recommended methods on how to clean our mobile devices against SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses and bacteria, without damaging them.

 

Best Disinfectant To Clean Your Mobile Devices

To sanitise your smartphone against SARS-CoV-2, you can use a small amount of disinfectant. Samsung recommends :

  • hypochlorous acid-based disinfectant (50-80 ppm)
  • alcohol-based disinfectant (over 70% ethanol or isopropyl alcohol)

But please note that such disinfectants should only be used on glass, ceramic and metal surfaces.

You should AVOID using them on leather or rubber surfaces.

 

COVID-19 Guide : How To Clean Your Smartphone

  1. Power off your smartphone
  2. Remove its case, cable and any attached accessories
  3. Use a lint-free microfibre cloth to wipe down the exterior of the smartphone
  4. Apply the disinfectant to the microfibre cloth, NOT directly on your smartphone.
    Avoid getting any liquid into any openings, or you can trigger the liquid contact indicators inside.
  5. Gently wipe the front and back of your smartphone with the damp cloth to sanitise it.

 

COVID-19 Guide : How To Clean Your Smartwatch

  1. Power off your smartwatch
  2. Remove its straps

The Samsung Water Lock Mode Guide For Smartwatches!

Love to swim? Make sure you turn on the Water Lock Mode of your Samsung smartwatch before you do!

In this guide, we will explain what Water Lock Mode is all about. Find out how and why you should turn it on before a swim!

 

What Is Water Lock Mode?

Water Lock Mode is a feature that is found in Samsung smartwatches that are designed for swimming. Currently, it is available in the Galaxy Watch Active, the Galaxy Watch and the Gear Sport.

  • Enabling it disables the touch display, preventing you (or water splashes) from accidentally activating it during a swim
  • Disabling it will cause the speaker to vibrate and eject water from the speaker port

 

How To Enable & Disable Water Lock Mode

By default, it is not available in Quick Settings, so you will need to enable it in Settings 

  • Go to Settings
  • Swipe to Advanced
  • Scroll to the Water Lock Mode option
  • Tap the toggle switch to turn it on

Once you are done swimming, just press and hold the Home button to disable it.

 

Adding It To Quick Settings

If you find it useful, you can add it to Quick Settings using these steps :

  • Go to Settings
  • Swipe to Advanced
  • Scroll to Edit Quick Settings
  • Remove one of the existing Quick Settings by tapping on the minus (-) icon
  • Tap on the plus (+) icon to add a new Quick Setting
  • Scroll to Water Lock Mode, and tap on it
  • Once you add it to Quick Settings, you can tap and hold to move its icon to the position you prefer.
  • Then press Home to save your choice and exit

Now, you can swipe down and quickly toggle it!

 

Isn’t My Smartwatch Already Waterproof?

The Samsung Galaxy Watch, Watch Active and Gear Sport smartwatches are all certified water-resistant to the 5 ATM or 5ATM standard – they will withstand depths of up to 50 metres for up to 10 minutes.

You can actually start swimming without turning on Water Lock at all. Perhaps that’s why Samsung did not publicise much about this feature. However, we still recommend you use this feature if you intend to get wet.

 

When You Should Turn Water Lock Mode On / Off

Before You Start Swimming

You can swim with your 5 ATM-rated Samsung smartwatch without prior preparation.

But turning this feature on will prevent the touch display from being activated by water splashes.

After You Are Done Swimming

Disabling the Water Lock Mode after you are done swimming will eject water from the speaker port.

This is especially important if you are swimming in chlorinated or dirty water – the chlorine or dirt can dry out and clog the speaker.

Yesterday, Samsung held their first GLOBAL Samsung Galaxy UNPACKED event in Malaysia, unveiling the new Galaxy A 2018 series. It featured the recently-announced Samsung Galaxy A7 2018, and the world’s first smartphone with a quad lens camera  – the Galaxy A9 2018!

As usual, Samsung brought in a slew of Korean celebrities for the party. Check out the whole event!

 

Galaxy UNPACKED KL 2018 For Galaxy A9 2018 + Galaxy A7 2018.

At 5 PM on 11 October 2018, Samsung President and CEO DJ Koh stepped up and unveiled the Galaxy A9 2018 to the world. And we were there in the front row!    

Although we earlier thought that DJ Koh would reveal the Samsung foldable smartphone – the Galaxy X / F / XF, Samsung only launched the Galaxy A9 2018, which features 4 cameras. It fits perfectly with their tagline – Four X Fun or 4x Fun.

As we had also earlier revealed, the recently-announced Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) made an appearance in the launch. It may not have four rear cameras, but it has THREE rear cameras and if you add the single front camera, it has FOUR cameras in total… so heck, 4x Fun too1 🙂

Sadly, Samsung did not give us a sneak peek of the Galaxy X / Galaxy F / Galaxy FX foldable smartphone… but we know it’s coming soon!

200 Lucky Fans

In addition to members of the media from all over the world, Samsung has invited 200 lucky Samsung fans to witness the first Galaxy UNPACKED event in Malaysia. They were selected after sharing photos taken with their Samsung Galaxy devices.

This emphasis on photography ties in with the Samsung Galaxy A9 2018’s key selling point of mobile photography using its four cameras.

This means that both devices are resistance to rain or shower and may be used for shallow-water activities like swimming in a pool. However, it should not be used for scuba diving, waterskiing, or other activities involving high-velocity water or submersion below shallow depth. If the device or your hands are wet, they must be dried thoroughly prior to handling.

The new Gear Sport (Price Check) will be available in Samsung Experience Stores from 1 December 2017 onwards at a retail price of RM1,299 / ~US$ 309.
