David Wang is senior vice president of engineering for the Radeon Technologies Group (RTG) at AMD.

In this role, Wang is responsible for all aspects of graphics engineering, including the technical strategy, architecture, hardware and software for AMD’s graphics products and technologies

With more than 25 years of graphics and silicon engineering experience, Wang brings deep technical expertise and an excellent track record in managing complex silicon development to AMD.

During AMD Financial Analyst Day 2020, David Wang unveiled the AMD graphics roadmap for 2020 and beyond in his presentation – Driving GPU Leadership.

  • The AMD Radeon DNA (AMD RDNA) architecture was designed for gaming and is currently powering the award-winning AMD Radeon RX 5000 series GPUs.

  • The next-generation AMD RDNA 2 architecture is planned to deliver a 50% performance-per-watt improvement over the first-generation AMD RDNA architecture.
  • The AMD RDNA 2 architecture will support hardware-accelerated ray tracing, variable rate shading (VRS) and other advanced features.
  • The first AMD RDNA 2-based products are expected to launch in late 2020.
  • AMD unveiled its new AMD Compute DNA (AMD CDNA) architecture, designed to accelerate data center compute workloads.
  • The first-generation AMD CDNA architecture, planned to launch later in 2020, includes 2nd Generation AMD Infinity Architecture to enhance GPU to GPU connectivity and is optimized for machine learning and high-performance computing applications.
  • The follow-up AMD CDNA 2 architecture will support 3rd Generation AMD Infinity Architecture to enable next generation exascale-class supercomputers.
  • Expanding on previous generations of the ROCm open source software platform for the data center, AMD plans to introduce ROCm 4.0 later this year as a complete software solution for high-performance computing exascale systems and machine learning workloads.

AMD Radeon RX 5700M | RX 5600M : A Quick Primer!

At CES 2020, AMD announced the Radeon RX 5700M and Radeon RX 5600M mobile GPUs for laptops like the new Dell G5 15 SE!

Here is EVERYTHING AMD has revealed so far about the Radeon RX 5700M and RX 5600M mobile GPUs!

 

AMD Radeon RX 5700M | RX 5600M

The new AMD Radeon RX 5700M and RX 5600M mobile GPUs are using the same Navi GPU as their desktop counterparts, with 10.3 billion transistors fabricated on the 7 nm process.

Unlike the smaller Radeon RX 5500M, this Navi GPU has 36 Compute Units, with 2304 stream processors and a wider 192-bit or 256-bit memory interface.

The AMD Radeon RX 5700M is designed for high-performance gaming laptops, and will have high clock speeds of up to 1.72 GHz, a wide 256-bit memory bus and 8 GB of GDDR6 memory.

The AMD Radeon RX 5600M will debut in 1080p gaming laptops like the Dell G15 SE (pictured above), and come with a 192-bit memory bus and 6 GB of GDDR6 memory.

Both will support the new AMD SmartShift technology, when paired with the new 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile processors.

AMD Radeon RX 5700M | RX 5600M : Availability

AMD expects laptops featuring the Radeon RX 5700M and RX 5600M mobile GPUs to debut in the first quarter of 2020.

The Dell G15 SE, which features the RX 5600M, will be available in April 2020.

AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT | RX 5600 : A Quick Primer!

AMD just announced two new graphics cards – the Radeon RX 5600 XT and the Radeon RX 5600, that they promise will deliver the ultimate 1080p gaming experience.

Here is what AMD has revealed so far about the Radeon RX 5600 XT and Radeon RX 5600 graphics cards!

 

AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT | RX 5600 : A Quick Primer!

The AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT and Radeon RX 5600 use the same Navi GPU as the Radeon RX 5700, with 10.3 billion transistors fabricated using the 7 nm process

The Radeon RX 5600 XT is essentially the Radeon RX 5700, with slower clock speeds and a 192-bit memory bus instead of a 256-bit memory bus.

The Radeon RX 5600 maintains the same slower clock speeds and 192-bit memory bus, but has some stream processors disabled.

They both have a lower TDP of 150 watts, 6 GB of GDDR6 memory, and have a PCI Express 4.0 x16 interface.

AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT Performance

AMD is targeting the Radeon RX 5600 XT at gamers who are looking to upgrade from 3+ year old cards like the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB.

In their internal tests, it handily beats that 3.5 year old card by 55% on average – a significant performance difference.

Against a newer card like the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, the performance gap narrows but it promises to be about 10-20% faster.

Finally, AMD pit it against the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER, showing 5%-15% better performance.

 

AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT Price + Availability

From what we understand, both the Radeon RX 5600 XT and Radeon RX 5600 are AIB-only cards like the Radeon RX 5500 XT.

However, only the Radeon RX 5600 XT will be available for retail sale from AMD’s brand partners starting from 21 January 2020 onwards, with a suggested e-tail price (SEP) of US$279.

The AMD Radeon RX 5600 will be available only in OEM systems, and will ship in the first quarter of 2020.

AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT Tech Report + Video Briefing!

AMD just announced the Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card – an AIB-only model targeted at 1080p and esports gamers!

Here is our quick primer on the two AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT variants, including their reference specifications and suggested retail prices!

Let’s start with the official tech briefing by Mithun Chandrasekhar, AMD Senior Product Manager and Brian Kong, AMD Product Manager at Radeon Technologies Group.

 

AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT : A Quick Primer

The AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT is basically the desktop version of the Radeon RX 5500M, using the same GPU with 6.4 billion transistors fabricated on the 7 nm process technology.

This Navi GPU has 22 Compute Units with 1408 stream processors and a 128-bit memory interface. The only difference is the Radeon RX 5500 XT has higher clock speeds and TDP, with up to 8 GB of GDDR6 memory.

These cards are designed to deliver 1080p gaming at 60+ fps for AAA titles, and 90+ fps for esport games.

To reduce costs, AMD opted to use a PCI Express 4.0 x8 interface, instead of the PCIe 4.0 x16 interface. But if paired with a PCIe 4.0 chipset, it will deliver the same bandwidth as PCIe 3.0 x16.

AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT Performance Comparison

AMD shared these performance results comparing the 4 GB variant against the GeForce GTX 1650 Super (4 GB) in AAA games at 1080p.

Based on their tests, the RX 5500 XT delivers anywhere from 4% to 30% better performance than the GTX 1650 Super.

 

AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT : 4GB vs 8GB

AMD’s AIB partners will be offering their cards in two variants – with either 4 GB or 8 GB of GDDR6 memory.

While this may seem to be a minor difference, AMD says that opting for the 8 GB Variant can offer a significant performance boost, with high quality settings.

 

AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT : Price + Bundle

As we mentioned earlier, this is exclusively an AIB-only model. There will be no reference model, so specifications and prices will vary significantly.

However, AMD shared with us their Suggested Retail Price (SEP) for both variants :

  • AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 4GB : US$169 / ~£129 / ~A$245 / ~S$229 / ~RM704
  • AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB : US$199 / ~£152 / ~A$288 / ~S$270 / ~RM829

Instead of bundling every card with either Borderlands 3 or Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint as announced earlier, AMD has decided to bundle every card with :

  • Iceborne Master Edition
  • 3 months Xbox Game Pass subscription

While a 3 month subscription is not particularly exciting, it’s still nice to pick up a free game with your purchase, especially at this price point!

Designed for engineers, architects and 3D designers, the Radeon Pro W5700 promises greatly improved performance and efficiency over its predecessors.

This is mostly thanks to its new RNDA architecture, which delivers 25% more instructions per clock (IPC) than the last-generation Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture.

This allows the Radeon Pro W5700 deliver up to 41% better performance per watt than the Radeon Pro WX 8200, which is based on the older GCN architecture.

The AMD Radeon Pro W5700 is basically the workstation variant of the AMD Radeon RX 5700 graphics card, with some major differences :

AMD Radeon Pro W5700 vs NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000

AMD is targeting the Radeon Pro W5700 against NVIDIA’s Quadro RTX 4000, offering equivalent performance at a lower price point.

On top of a lower price point, AMD claims that the Radeon Pro W5700 will use less power than the Quadro RTX 4000, particularly during solid modelling.

A key benefit of the AMD Radeon Pro W5700 is Radeon Pro Software, with its built-in AMD Remote Workstation capability.
