Why RM500 Bantuan Awal Ramadhan 2024 Is A Scam!

This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS circulating on WhatsApp, and social media platforms, and here are the reasons why!

Fact #1 : There Is No RM500 Bantuan Awal Ramadhan For 2024

Let me start by pointing out that there is no such thing as the RM500 Bantuan Awal Ramadhan aid for 2024.

On 6 March 2024, the Malaysia Ministry of Finance called it fake news, and warning people against sharing it:

THIS IS FAKE NEWS!

The Ministry of Finance stresses that the Ramadan Aid 2024 claim is FALSE.

Be careful and don’t be easily fooled by such news on social media.

Visit the portal and follow the Ministry of Finance’s official social media channels for the latest and most accurate information.

Fact #2 : Photo Taken From 2023

The photo used in this scam was actually taken from a website posting about the 2023 Ramadhan aid given by Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (Mаjlіѕ Agаmа Iѕlаm Wilayah Pеrѕеkutuаn, MAIWP).

In its official announcement, MAIWP gave a special one-off RM500 Ramadan financial aid on 27 March 2023. However, this financial aid was limited to existing recipients of monthly financial aid from MAIWP.

Not only was this one-time financial aid limited to 2023, there was no application, and the money was automatically given to eligible recipients.

Ramadan 1444H assistance to recipients of monthly financial assistance.

RM500 One Off

The distribution of aid will be implemented in stages on March 27, 2023 (Monday) corresponding to 5 Ramadan 1444H.

Fact #3 : It’s A Phishing Scam

I investigated one of the links, and it appears to be a phishing website registered in Indonesia, using the domain “madani2024.my.id” that was created on 29 February 2024.

This phishing website attempts to trick you into giving up your Telegram account access, by asking for:

  • your phone number
  • your Telegram account password
  • your Telegram OTP

Once the scammers have that information, they can take over your Telegram account, which can then be used to scam

It is likely that the other scammers may try to steal your WhatsApp account, and/or trick you into giving up your bank account login details.

Do NOT click on the links, and do NOT share them with your family and friends!

MILO Malaysia Ramadan Contest : Why This Is A Scam!

Unfortunately, this is yet another survey scam, like the Tenaga Nasional 33rd Anniversary scam!!

Nestle confirmed that the viral MILO Malaysia contest a scam in a 30 March 2023 statement on their website:

Nestlé Malaysia Notification on Scams

We have been alerted of a MILO Ramadan Contest offering cash prizes to the public upon completion of a questionnaire. Please be informed that this is a scam which aims to mislead the public.

Nestlé views this matter seriously and has reported it to the relevant authorities.

If you have received a post or message on this, or know anyone who has:

DO NOT share the post
DO NOT provide any personal details (e.g. bank account numbers)
DO NOT make any payments

This is yet another example of a survey scam, that scammers have been using for years:

Now, let me show you how to spot these scams next time!

If you spot any of these warning signs, DO NOT PROCEED and DO NOT SHARE!

Warning Sign #1 : Bad Grammar

Most of these scammers do not have a good command of the English language, so if you spot bad grammar, stay away.

Proper contests or events sponsored by major brands like Nestle will have at least one PR or marketing person who will vet the text before allowing it to be posted.

Recommended : Petronas 50th Anniversary Scam Alert!

Warning Sign #2 : Offering You Free Money Or Gifts

Please do NOT be naive. No one – not even large companies like Nestle – is going to give you money or free gifts just to participate in a survey!

Nestle is a corporation whose business is to make money, not a charity to give you free money.

Warning Sign #3 : Not Using The Real MILO Domain

A genuine Nestle or MILO marketing campaign would use their real domains – www.milo.com.my or www.nestle.com.my.

Or they would run it off the official MILO Malaysia page on Facebook – www.facebook.com/MiloMalaysia/.

If you see nonsensical domains like findinggreedy.cn, consequentlybewilder.cn, merefamily.top, 0yjjg61.cn, 1eaf1rnbeef.top, ldxqw.bar, etc. that’s a sign it’s a SCAM!

Warning Sign #4 : Asking You To Forward The Offer

No brand will insist that you must share the offer with 5 groups or 20 friends on WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.

Do not click to forward their offer to your family and friends. They will not appreciate being scammed with your help!

Recommended : Facebook Ads Scam Hits Many Maybank Customers!

Warning Sign #5 : Asking You To Download + Register An App

If you click through and joined the fake survey scam, you will eventually be asked to download and register for an app.

This is VERY DANGEROUS. Never agree to download and register for any unknown app from a website.

Always download your apps from an official App Store like Google Play Store (for Android smartphones) and Apple App Store (for iPhones).

The Beauty Of Ramadhan With Yaman Ibrahim

Kuala Lumpur, 24 June 2016 – When Samsung first introduced its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge to Malaysians, one of the features that took the nation by storm is its outstanding built-in camera. Many were looking for the perfect smartphone camera to take great shots in any condition; and much to their anticipation, Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones made users rethink what they can do with it.

One such fan to appreciate this remarkable camera in a smartphone is award-winning Malaysian photographer, Yaman Ibrahim, who has since begun his journey of capturing his country’s beauty with his Galaxy S7 edge.

Stunning night shots of Malaysian sights captured by Yaman Ibrahim on the Galaxy S7 edge

Inspired by the holy month of Ramadhan and the customs that come along with it, Yaman embarked on a quest to uncover and showcase his unique perspective on how Malaysians celebrate Ramadhan as a prelude to the upcoming Raya festivities.

Yaman, who is based in Kuala Lumpur, harnessed his interest in photography since childhood. With a deep passion in all forms of photography, his new series “Colors of Ramadhan”, all shot with the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, perfectly encapsulated the culture, practices and traditions of the Ramadhan month.

“As a Malaysian, my goal is to provide an accurate representation of what my country is to me – in all its charm and splendour. The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge really was an extension of my being and my vision. It showed me more than what I thought a phone was capable of doing and I too was pleasantly surprised by the unexpectedly amazing shots,” said Yaman Ibrahim.

This photography series has touched face on what the lead up to Hari Raya is all about – the Malaysian culture and lifestyle, the joy of gathering together, the crowd of the evening bazaars and the peacefulness of prayers.

“When we designed the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, we wanted to ensure that it truly serves as the perfect lifestyle companion. Taking pictures during the day is great especially with sunlight as your natural lighting; however, the night holds just as much beauty. This is where the Galaxy S7 edge’s camera comes in – its superior quality helps users take stunning images regardless of the time of day,” said Mr Lee Jui Siang, Vice President, IT and Mobile, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

People from all walks of life going about Ramadhan as seen through Yaman’s Galaxy S7 edge

As the world’s 1st smartphone to incorporate Dual Pixel technology, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are capable of producing photographs of DSLR quality; perfectly retaining every detail in the contrasting shades of Malay cuisine to the brilliantly intricate architecture of the mosques. So as the kids play with fireworks and sparks, the fast auto-focus means no more blurred shots when you need to take blink-of-an-eye moments!

Both front and rear cameras are also built with f1.7 lens, allowing more light in into the photo for brighter shots that essentially capture the pure absolute beauty and rich colours even under low-light conditions, making its camera performance unrivalled and one-of-a-kind. Its outstanding low-light shooting function uncovers a whole new perspective into Malaysia’s rich culture and nightlife, and like what many have said about this the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge – this game-changing smartphone never does fail to impress.
