Hang onto your Pocophone! You may have a piece of history! Xiaomi is said to be in the midst of killing off the POCO brand, in favour of Redmi in their new brand strategy.
Goodbye, POCO…
Xiaomi introduced the POCO brand last year, with the launch of the Pocophone F1. However, less than a year later, they are in the midst of killing off the POCO brand with a new brand strategy.
POCO was meant to be a Xiaomi sub-brand that will offer flagship-class smartphones at ridiculous low prices.
When it was revealed, the Pocophone F1 rocked the smartphone market by offering a 6.18-inch Full HD+ display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage at unheard-of prices.
No POCO, No Pocophone F1
The runaway success of the Pocophone F1 led everyone to await, eagerly, for the Pocophone F2. However, it looks like the rumoured Pocophone F2 will never exist…
Instead, the Pocophone F2 will now be introduced as the Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro, which is also known as the Mi 9T Pro in some markets.
Redmi Gets Upgraded!
That means Redmi will effectively become a separate company, with its own management team and resources.
This was first announced in January 2019 when they launched the Redmi Note 7, but at that time, it was not known that Redmi would replace POCO.
From what we understand, the process has already been going on for some time in China, and will soon be reflected globally.
Xiaomi’s premium flagship smartphones will be marketed under the Mi brand.
