Tencent just unveiled their first-ever AAA game with real-time ray tracing and Siren digital character technology – SYNCED : Off-Planet!
Here is EVERYTHING you need to know about Tencent’s upcoming PvPvE sci-fi game, including its gameplay, CG and trailer videos!
SYNCED : Off-Planet
Developed by Tencent NExT Studios, SYNCED : Off-Planet is a brand-new PvPvE franchise that has players fighting each other, while surviving over a thousand Nanos!
Set in a future where humanity’s mechanical and technological evolution went violently wrong, players compete against other survivors of the apocalypse to secure resources for their day-to-day survival, and for a chance to escape planet Earth.
Human settlements now struggle to survive the new dangers of the world, while they try to locate transport shuttles that can take them… off-planet.
Officially unveiled at the NVIDIA Gamescom 2019 showcase, SYNCED : Off-Planet will feature a massive PvPvE gaming experience with up to 48 players, and over a thousand Nanos – corrupted human cyborgs.
SYNCED : Off-Planet Gameplay
Every round in SYNCED : Off-Planet lasts 20 minutes, with 16 teams of three players each. There will also be 1,500 Nanos that will be introduced into the map in “AI-driven bursts”.
The goal will be to capture a shuttle leaving Earth, and defend it against other teams and the Nanos, of course.
Here is the first gameplay video Tencent NExT Studios revealed, showing off its ray-traced graphics.
Players will earn XP (Experience Points) after every match, which can be used to upgrade both active and passive skills.
However, a team’s ability to gather resources and eliminate other teams will also be important. Resources can be used to upgrade your equipment, as well as your home base.
You will be able to chat with other players and teams in the Haven, a pre-match area where you can also organise your team, and purchase accessories.
SYNCED The Horde To Get Off-Planet!
The name itself is a hint on how it differentiates itself from other battle royale or zombie games
For greater situational awareness of the battlefield, players will have the ability to sync with other players, as well as control groups of Nanos by hacking them.
To hack a horde of Nanos, you will need to find a Nano with a vulnerable node and shoot it out. Then you need to hold down a button (which leaves you defenceless) until the malware activates.
Then every nearby Nano comes under your control, and will automatically attack “unhacked” Nanos and enemy players. You can also send them to a designated spot.
The hack or sync will last a minute, after which the hacked Nanos will fall to the ground… dead.
Because the bodies of dead Nanos will lie where they fall and persist in the game, you can use them to build obstacles. You can literally stack them up to block access.
SYNCED : Off-Planet Graphics
This is the first official AAA game by Tencent that will feature NVIDIA RTX real-time ray tracing technology to deliver photo-realistic image quality with ray-traced reflections and shadows.
It will also feature the Siren digital character technology that Epic Games showed off at GDC 2018.
It is based on Cubic Motion’s motion capture technology that uses a live actor to instantaneously create digital facial animation, making the characters look remarkably life-like.
SYNCED : Off-Planet Ray Tracing Comparisons
Here are the first official SYNCED : Off-Planet ray tracing screenshots and comparisons!
Lakes, puddles, wet surfaces, shiny surfaces and numerous other objects and game elements will naturally reflect surrounding detail.
And all shadows will feature realistic contact hardening and softening, as you see in the real-world.
SYNCED : Off-Planet Price + Availability
According to NExT, SYNCED : Off-Planet will be monetised through micro-transactions, but they haven’t decided whether to charge for the game upfront, or make it free-to-play.
But NExT Creative Director, Clark Jiayang Yang, said, “We’re not going to do pay-to-win for sure. I hate those pay-to-win games. As long as it’s fair for everyone, I think that’s fine.”
They are planning to host a closed beta and early access period next year, where player feedback will determine their final monetisation decision.

Microsoft and NVIDIA just announced at Gamescom 2019 that Minecraft will get a FREE real-time ray tracing upgrade!
Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming Minecraft ray tracing upgrade – how it works, the official trailers, and comparisons!
Minecraft Gets FREE Ray Tracing Upgrade!
Mojang will soon release a free update for the Windows 10 version of Minecraft, which adds real-time ray tracing support using Microsoft DXR.
Players will get to enjoy photorealistic renders of their worlds, with more realistic shadows, lighting and colours… without resorting to complicated mods.
How Ray Tracing Will Work In Minecraft
Working with NVIDIA, Mojang is adding a form of real-time ray tracing called path tracing to Minecraft.
Path tracing simulates the way light travels throughout a scene, and offers a unified lighting model that replaces the different lighting effects that have traditionally been implemented using rasterised or hybrid renderers.
Here are some of the traditional lighting effects that path tracing in Minecraft will replace :
Direct lighting from the sun, sky and various light sources, including emissive surfaces such as glowstone and lava
Realistic hard and soft shadows depending on the size, shape and distance of the light source
Per-pixel emissive lighting
Indirect diffuse illumination (diffuse global illumination)
Indirect specular illumination (reflections)
Transparent materials with reflection, refraction and scattering (stained glass, water, ice)
Atmospheric scattering and density (volumetric fog, light shafts, realistic sky)
There is one caveat though – you will need a GeForce RTX graphics card to run Minecraft with real-time ray tracing. Like the new GeForce RTX SUPER cards.
Mojang and NVIDIA did not give an exact date, only that the ray tracing upgrade will be available in 2020.
However, attendees at the special NVIDIA Gamescon 2019 event will be able to play-test the beta version for themselves, and even capture and share their game play!

After wowing everyone at E3, Ubisoft just showcased the real-time ray tracing capabilities of Watch Dogs : Legion at Gamescom 2019!
Here is our sneak peek of Watch Dogs : Legion, including the new ray tracing game trailer and showcase!
Watch Dogs : Legion
The third instalment of the Watch Dogs franchise, Legion is set in post-Brexit London full of organised crime and pervasive surveillance.
There is no longer a central protagonist. Instead, you can recruit anyone… literally, ANYONE, from the streets and play that character.
Customise Your Team!
You can assemble a team of up to 20 DedSec members, assigning each of them to one of three distinct classes – Enforcer, Infiltrator or Hacker – each with a unique skill set.
Enforcers – can use heavier weapons like assault rifles, and have a shock sticky mine skill!
Infiltrators – can cloak themselves or knock-out enemies by hacking their augmented-reality implants!
Hackers – have access to the Spider Bot, and can hijack military drones!
Take your new operatives out on missions to level up, and gain perks that can be used to modify their class-specific skills!
Fight To Take Back London!
Watch Dogs : Legion also boasts an improved melee system with punches, grapples and dodges. Not only are operatives with melee-boosting traits now more valuable, the whole game can be completed using only melee attacks!
That’s because enemies will only escalate to match your attacks – if you don’t use your guns, enemies won’t use theirs.
The cover-shooting system has also been improved, with a number of non-lethal guns and four non-lethal ammo types – shock, concussion, gas and tranquilliser.
This is important because when your operatives die, they are gone for good. Before they die though, you will get a chance to decide whether to keep fighting (to the death) or surrender.
Get the people of London to join the DedSec resistance and take back their city when Watch Dogs : Legion launches on March 6, 2019!
Watch Dogs : Legion Will Use Real-Time Ray Tracing!
Ubisoft and NVIDIA also jointly announced that the GeForce RTX will be the official graphics platform for Watch Dogs Legion.
This collaboration means that Legion will be utilise real-time ray tracing and other NVIDIA gaming technologies to deliver ultra-realistic visual effects.
The First Watch Dogs : Legion Ray Tracing Game Trailers!
NVIDIA shared with us two Legion game trailers to show off the photo-realistic, real-time ray traced reflections.
In these ray-traced footage, they replaced cube maps and screen space reflections, allowing windows, water puddles, cars and other reflective surfaces to accurately reflect their surroundings.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Hands On!
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER (US | UK | MY) has an NVIDIA TU104 GPU with 2560 stream processors.
This gives it 160 TMUs and 64 ROPS, delivering a peak output of 283 GT/s and 113 GP/s, thanks to its higher clock speeds.
Its 8 GB of GDDR6 memory runs at a speed of 1750 MHz, giving it a peak memory bandwidth of 448 GB/s.
Even though the TU104 GPU is fabricated on the 12 nm process technology, the card only needs 215 watts of power.
NVIDIA Turing
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX SUPER series continues to use the NVIDIA Turing microarchitecture, the first to introduce real-time ray tracing capabilities and new Tensor Cores.
It also continues to benefit from NVIDIA DLSS (Deep Learning Super-Sampling), which can be used to deliver better than TAA quality with a significantly lower performance penalty, or much better image quality – equivalent to 64X super sampling.

RTX 2070 SUPER Power Requirements
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER (US | UK | MY) is a cut-down version of the GeForce RTX 2080, so it comes to no surprise that it would require 215 watts of power as well.
Like the GeForce RTX 2080, you will need a power supply with both 6-pin and 8-pin PCI Express power cables.
RTX 2070 SUPER Display Ports
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER (US | UK | MY) has three DisplayPort 1.4 ports, each supporting up to 8K HDR resolution at 60 Hz, or 4K HDR at 120 Hz or more.
There is also a tiny USB-C VirtualLink port, which allows you to connect a VR headset. But guess what – it works like a standard USB-C port, so you can also connect any USB-C device to it!
For compatibility with older displays, there is a HDMI 2.0b port, which supports up to 4K HDR displays at up to 60 Hz… as well as a DP-to-DVI dongle, which allows you to hook it up to older monitors with a DVI port.

F1 2019
F1 2019 is a really new racing game by Codemasters, released on 28 June 2019.
We tested it on three resolutions at the Ultra High settings :
1080p : 1920 x 1080
1440p : 2560 x 1440
2160p : 3840 x 2160
1080p Gaming Resolution
At 1080p, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER (US | UK | MY) was slightly (just over 2%) faster than the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.
Based on the 2013 movie, World War Z is a relatively new third-person shooter game, released in April 2019.
We tested it on three resolutions using the Vulkan API at the Ultra High settings :
1080p : 1920 x 1080
1440p : 2560 x 1440
2160p : 3840 x 2160
Note : This game is known to be highly optimised for AMD Radeon cards.
1080p Gaming Resolution
At 1080p, World War Z was CPU-limited even with the new AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor. So take these results with a pinch of salt.
The GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER (US | UK | MY) was somehow 7% faster than the RTX 2060 SUPER, and 9-10% faster than the RX 5700 and GTX 1080 Ti graphics cards.
1440p Gaming Resolution
When we kicked up the resolution, it was now just 3-4% faster than the Vega 64 and RX 5700 graphics cards.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER – Summary
Coming up with the RTX SUPER cards was easy for NVIDIA. They are basically cut-down versions of existing and faster graphics cards.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER (US | UK | MY) is essentially a GeForce RTX 2080 with 384 CUDA Cores disabled, but higher clock speeds to compensate.
This allows it to be almost as fast as a regular RTX 2080, just a whole lot cheaper! In fact, that was precisely why it replaced the RTX 2080, which was $200 more expensive.
Sadly, we currently do not have an AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT to compare it with, only the Radeon RX 5700.
Needless to say, the GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER far outclasses the RX 5700. But until we get our hands on its true rival – the Radeon RX 5700 XT, let’s compare it against its “junior”, the RTX 2060 SUPER in our six real world game benchmarks :
F1 2019 : 16% faster at 1080p, 19% faster at 1440p, 21% faster at 2160p
World War Z : 7% faster at 1080p, 15% faster at 1440p, 20.5% faster at 2160p
The Division 2 : 15.5% faster at 1080p, 20.5% faster at 1440p, 24% faster at 2160p
Strange Brigade : 17% faster at 1080p, 16.5% faster at 1440p, 15% faster at 2160p
Metro Exodus : 16% faster at 1080p, 17% faster at 1440p and 2160p
AOTS : 3% faster at 1080p, 9% faster at 1440p, 15% faster at 2160p
Generally, we would say that GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER (US | UK | MY) is roughly 12-18% faster than the RTX 2060 SUPER.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Game Bundle
Like the RTX 2060 SUPER, NVIDIA is bundling TWO GAMES – Wolfenstein : Youngblood and Control – with the RTX 2070 SUPER. They are worth at least $50, so that’s a really nice deal… if you like those games.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER – Our Verdict + Award
Now, there is nothing “super” about what’s really a cut-down version of the existing GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card.
What will really sell the RTX 2060 SUPER is the fact it offers a much better value proposition than the RTX 2080.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER is basically a slightly slower GeForce RTX 2080 with a $200 discount.
That means you get a card that’s fast enough for 4K gaming at 60 fps or better in ⅔ of the games we tested, at what you used to pay for a GeForce RTX 2070!
That’s sure as heck worthy of our Reviewer’s Choice Award! Nice work, NVIDIA!

NVIDIA RTX SUPER Gaming Performance : TLDR Edition
For those of you who are impatient and just want the summary, here are the average frame rates for the six games we tested :
All three cards blazed through the games at 1080p, delivering frame rates far in excess of 60 fps.
In 1440p, all three cards delivered frame rates far in excess of 60 fps in all games, except for Metro Exodus where only RTX 2080 SUPER posted higher frame rates, and the RTX 2070 SUPER came close to 60 fps.
The RTX 2060 SUPER is generally too slow for 4K gaming, delivering 60 fps or better only in two games – Ashes of the Singularity and Strange Brigade.
The RTX 2070 SUPER (US | UK | MY) and the RTX 2080 SUPER (US | UK | MY) are better bets for 4K gaming, delivering better than 60 fps in ⅔ of the games we tested.
With a price tag that’s $200-$300 higher, the RTX 2080 SUPER (US | UK | MY) had the lowest price / performance value – 25% lower than the RTX 2070 SUPER, and 36% lower than the RTX 2060 SUPER.
NVIDIA RTX SUPER : Power Efficiency
Now, let’s compare their power efficiency in performance per watt.
Since we cannot test their actual power consumption, we will have to rely on their rated TGP (Total Graphics Power) specifications.

NVIDIA RTX SUPER Gaming Performance Examined!
Now, let’s examine the gaming performance of the three NVIDIA GeForce RTX SUPER cards in six games :
F1 2019
World War Z
Metro Exodus
The Division 2
Strange Brigade
Ashes of the Singularity
F1 2019
F1 2019 is a really new racing game by Codemasters, released on 28 June 2019. We tested the cards at the Ultra High settings.
All three cards delivered frame rates far in excess of 60 fps at 1080p and 1440p.
However, only the RTX 2080 SUPER and RTX 2070 SUPER were fast enough to deliver average frame rates of 60 fps or better at 4K (2160p).
World War Z
Based on the 2013 movie, World War Z is a relatively new third-person shooter game, released in April 2019. We tested the cards using the Vulkan API at the Ultra High settings.
World War Z was an “easy” game – all three cards had no problem delivering frame rates far in excess of 60 fps, even at 4K / 2160p!
The Division 2
Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is a new third-person shooter game released in March 2019. We tested the cards using the Extreme settings.
All three cards had no problem handling 1080p, but RTX 2060 SUPER delivered just over 60 fps at 1440p. The RTX 2080 SUPER and RTX 2070 SUPER are better options at 1440p.
However, all three cards could not come close to 60 fps at 2160p. The RTX 2080 SUPER, arguably, could probably crack 60 fps at “less extreme” settings on 4K.
Strange Brigade
Strange Brigade is also a third-person shooter game, released in August 2018. We tested the cards using the Vulkan API at the Ultra High settings.
All three cards had no problem handling 1080p or 1440p. The RTX 2060 SUPER even managed to deliver just over 60 fps at 4K!
However, the RTX 2080 SUPER and RTX 2070 SUPER are better options at 4K, delivering frame rates far in excess of 60 fps.
Metro Exodus
Metro Exodus is a relatively new first-person shooter game, released in February 2019. We tested the cards using the Ultra settings.
This is a tough game, where the RTX 2060 SUPER barely delivered over 60 fps at 1080p.
The RTX 2070 SUPER only came close to 60 fps at 1440p, but should do much better with “less ultra” settings.
The RTX 2080 SUPER is definitely the best card for Metro Exodus, but even it could only deliver 40 fps at 4K using the Ultra settings!
Ashes of the Singularity
Ashes of the Singularity is a 2016 game that supports multi-core processing and asynchronous compute. We tested the cards using the DirectX 12 API at the Extreme settings :
AotS is very CPU-limited, even using the new AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor, so all three cards were stuck at around 90 fps at 1080p.
In any case, all three cards delivered average frame rates far in excess of 60 fps at 1080p and 1440p.

Here is a quick look at the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER‘s performance with the Vulkan API! Find out whether you should use Vulkan or DirectX in your games!
Vulkan API Primer
Build upon the AMD Mantle API, Vulkan is a cross-platform 3D graphics API. Designed to offer low driver overhead, it promises to offer these benefits :
reduced CPU overhead, with better management of CPU workloads
support for multi-threaded processing, allowing for better scaling on multi-core CPUs
close-to-metal control, for better performance and image quality
cross-platform support across Windows, Linux, macOS
NVIDIA supports Vulkan in their Game Ready drivers, for their graphics cards based on the Tesla, Fermi, Kepler, Maxwell, Pascal, Volta and Turing microarchitectures.
Based on the 2013 movie, World War Z is a relatively new third-person shooter game, released in April 2019.
We tested it on three resolutions using the Vulkan and DirectX 11 APIs at the Ultra High settings :
The performance gap is HUGE! The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER running on Vulkan was much, MUCH faster than DirectX 11 :
1080p : Vulkan was 42% faster than DirectX 11
1440p : Vulkan was 60% faster than DirectX 11
2160p : Vulkan was 66% faster than DirectX 11
Notably, Vulkan enabled the RTX 2060 SUPER to deliver an average frame rate in excess of 80 fps at the 4K resolution.
Strange Brigade
Strange Brigade is a third-person shooter game, released in August 2018. We tested it on three resolutions using the Vulkan and DirectX 12 APIs at the Ultra High settings :
DirectX 12 is closer-to-the-metal than DirectX 11, reducing driver overhead. So the performance impact of using the Vulkan API for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER was much less pronounced.
1080p : Vulkan was 7.5% faster than DirectX 12
1440p : Vulkan was 6.5% faster than DirectX 12
2160p : Vulkan was 6.6% faster than DirectX 12
Strange Brigade Frame Time Analysis
Strange Brigade also gives us the minimum, maximum and average frame times, allowing us to compare the frame times for both Vulkan and DirectX 12.
Generally, using Vulkan reduced frame times. The only exception was at 1080p, where its maximum frame time was higher than DirectX 12 :
1080p : Vulkan had 7.4% lower average frame time than DirectX 12
1440p : Vulkan had 6.5% lower average frame time than DirectX 12
2160p : Vulkan had 5.8% lower average frame time than DirectX 12
RTX 2060 SUPER Vulkan Performance Summarised
[adrotate group=”2″]
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER is a great 1440p gaming platform, but with some help from the Vulkan API, it can make 4K gaming possible.
You will see a much greater performance boost switching from DirectX 11 to Vulkan, as we saw in the case of World War Z.
There is a much smaller, but still significant, performance boost going from DirectX 12 to Vulkan.

Check out the first six GIGABYTE GeForce RTX SUPER graphics cards, as well as the other 63 GIGABYTE RTX SUPER cards they will launch later…
The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX SUPER Graphics Cards
We earlier shared that GIGABYTE is prepping a whopping 69 Super RTX models. Now, GIGABYTE has officially revealed the first six Super RTX models for their AORUS series and GAMING series.
The AORUS GeForce RTX SUPER series will have three models, at least initially.
AORUS GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 8G
AORUS GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8G
AORUS GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8G
All three AORUS GeForce RTX SUPER models will feature :
top-of-the-line overclocked GPUs, certified by the GIGABYTE GPU Gauntlet sorting technology,
WINDFORCE 3x 100mm stacked fans, with three ring RGB lighting effects, and
seven video outputs – 3 HDMI, 3 DP, one USB-C
The WINDFORCE 3x 100mm stacked fans not only reduce the length of the card, they generate more air pressure for better cooling.
In addition, the alternate spinning fans help to solve the problem of turbulence from the three fans, which improves air pressure and cooling capability.
These will also be the only cards in the market to offer 7 video outputs, in the form of 3 HDMI ports, 3 DP ports and one USB-C port.
The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX SUPER GAMING series will have three models, at least initially.
GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER GAMING OC 8G
