The Acer Predator Triton 700 Up Close
The Acer Predator Triton 700 (Price Check) is powered by the Intel Core i7-7700HQ quad-core processor with 32 GB of DDR4 memory, and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 with Max-Q Design. It even has two PCI Express SSDs running in RAID 0.
There are a total of five USB ports – three USB 3.0 ports, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Thunderbolt 3) Type C port, and a single USB 2.0 port. Curiously, that USB 2.0 port is actually recessed, and concealed by special cover.
To cater to gamers, it also comes with a full-sized LAN port, a HDMI 2.0 port, and a DisplayPort. Unfortunately, there is no SD card reader.
120 Hz Full HD G-SYNC Display
One of the key features of the Acer Predator Triton 700 (Price Check) is its display. It boasts a large 15.6″ display with an IPS panel and a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080. The display is capable of a 120 Hz refresh rate, and supports NVIDIA G-SYNC for a tear-free gaming experience.
If that display is not good enough, it has full-size DisplayPort and HDMI ports at the back, and a Thunderbolt 3 port on the right side, allowing you to hook up the Predator Triton 700 to an external 4K monitor.

Keyboard & Touchpad
One of the Acer Predator Triton 700’s best features is its keyboard, which boasts low-profile mechanical switches and individual RGB backlighting for each key. In addition to tactile feedback, this mechanical keyboard also offers N-key rollover (NKRO) and anti-ghosting capabilities.
Right above the keyboard is a 0.7 mm Gorilla Glass glass plate. It allows you to peek inside at the spinning AeroBlade 3D fan, and doubles as a large precision touchpad.
The only problem is the position of the glass plate makes it rather inconvenient to use as a touchpad. It also lacks buttons, so you will need to use multi-touch gestures instead.

AeroBlade 3D Cooler
In any premium gaming laptop, cooling is a top priority. The Acer Predator Triton 700 (Price Check) comes with two AeroBlade 3D fans and five heat pipes to quickly whisk heat away from the CPU and GPU, and exhaust it out.
Cool air is drawn in by the two AeroBlade 3D fans through a large number of vents on the underside, and used to cool the two heatsinks at the back and an additional heatsink on each side.
While this cooling system is very sleek and quiet, the Predator Triton 700 (Price Check) can get rather toasty. During our gaming sessions, we noted that the keyboard can reach temperatures of 40°C.
This is likely because there is very little clearance under the Predator Triton 700 for it to draw in cool air. We recommend using a laptop cooler.
Acer Predator Triton 700 Gaming Performance
The Acer Predator Triton 700 (Price Check) is powered by the Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor. This is a 4-core, 8-thread processor with a 6 MB L2 cache, a 2.8 GHz base clock and a 3.8 GHz boost clock.
It is paired with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 with 8 GB of GDDR5X memory. This is a Max-Q Design laptop, which means the GPU is tuned for peak efficiency, as opposed to maximum performance.

Memory & Storage
Our Acer Predator Triton 700 (Price Check) model came with a phenomenal 32 GB of DDR4-2400 memory. Frankly – games do not need more than 8 GB of memory, so this is overkill. However, it is heaven-sent if you also intend to do serious work on the Predator Triton 700.
It also comes with two PCI Express SSDs in a RAID 0 (striped) configuration. Both SSDs have a storage capacity of 256 GB, so you have a total storage size of 512 GB.
Setting them up as a RAID 0 array allows for insanely fast transfer rates, which is great for benchmarks but will not matter much in games beyond loading faster.
The Battery

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Acer Predator Triton 700 (Price Check) comes with a really tiny 3-cell lithium-ion battery with a total capacity of 54 Watt-hours. It can’t pack a large battery in such a thin form factor. Remember – it’s only 18.9 mm thick!
The downside – there’s not much juice in the tank. And the Predator Triton 700 is a thirsty beast. There’s a reason why it comes with a 230 W charger.
We could only game for 45 minutes before the battery drained to 10%. That means you need to be tethered to a wall socket to game for any significant amount of time.
Speakers
We are pleasantly surprised to find out that the Acer Predator Triton 700 has pretty decent speakers. It makes it more enjoyable to game without headphones.
If you prefer using headphones though, you will be glad to know that it supports Dolby Atmos. It will give you better spatial awareness, with the 3D soundscape it produces.

Acer Predator Triton 700 : Our Verdict + Award
The Acer Predator Triton 700 (Price Check) is a really great gaming laptop for those who want a sleek and powerful gaming laptop. It packs a ton of gaming performance in a form factor that is just under 19 mm thick, and weighs only 2.4 kg.
We are impressed by its performance. What’s not to like? It has a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with a very fast GeForce GTX 1080 GPU. If you want a gaming laptop that can take on AAA game titles, this is it.
Our model even comes with 32 GB of DDR4-2400 memory, and a RAID 0 array of two PCI Express SSDs. Serious overkill for gaming, but perfect for doing serious graphics and video work.
Beyond its raw gaming performance is its mechanical keyboard. Low-profile, yet offering the tactile feedback that many gamers desire. But we have to question their decision to adopt the see-through Gorilla Glass plate as a touchpad.
Sure, it’s a unique design feature that looks good, but it’s not practical. Whether you use the Predator Triton 700 (Price Check) for work or play, you need to pair it with a mouse.

The display is another great selling point. It offers a practical full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, with an IPS panel capable of a 120 Hz refresh rate. It also supports NVIDIA G-SYNC for a premium tear-free gaming experience.
We also like the fact that it comes with not one, not two, but three display output options. This gaming laptop is designed to support an external display, if you find the 15.6″ display too small.
Its svelte form factor makes it a cinch to carry around, but its utility on-the-go is limited by its small battery. You will always be tethered to a wall socket, which means lugging along the large and heavy charger.
But if you’re a practical person who is not going to buy into the gaming on-the-go BS, the Acer Predator Triton 700 (Price Check) is a great gaming laptop. Just hook it up to a power socket, add a mouse and it will handle any game you throw at it.

The NVIDIA Max-Q Design Tech Briefing
Max Q is actually a NASA term which refers to “the point at which aerodynamic stress on a vehicle in atmospheric flight is maximized“. NVIDIA Max-Q uses a similar philosophy to design gaming laptops that are 3X thinner, with up to 3X more performance (compared to the previous-generation NVIDIA Maxwell GPUs).
So what exactly is the NVIDIA Max-Q design, and how does it work? Gaurav Agarwal, NVIDIA Product Marketing Manager, explains it all in this tech briefing.
Here is a summary of the NVIDIA Max-Q design’s key features :
NVIDIA Max-Q is built around NVIDIA Pascal, specifically the GeForce GTX 1080, 1070 and 1060 GPUs.
The key design philosophy is a new focus on peak efficiency, instead of peak performance.
Instead of running at maximum frequency, the GPU will run at a lower frequency that has been determined to achieve peak efficiency.
This greatly reduces the GPU’s power consumption and thermal output, at the expense of some performance.
In the case of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, the Max-Q version will run 60 W cooler (90 W, instead of 150 W) while suffering only a 10% reduction in performance.
The massive reduction in the TGP (Total Graphics Power) allows a more powerful GPU like the GeForce GTX 1080 in a thinner laptop.
The lower TGP also allows for the use of thinner, lighter and quieter cooling solutions, and a longer battery life.
From what we understand, the Max-Q and non Max-Q GPUs are the same. The Max-Q version just uses firmware that has been tuned for efficiency, instead of performance.
The NVIDIA WhisperMode Technology

NVIDIA also introduced the new NVIDIA WhisperMode technology, which will be available by the end of June 2017.
Although not technically part of NVIDIA Max-Q, it helps to make the laptop run much quieter while you’re gaming.
WhisperMode intelligently paces the game’s frame rate while automatically adjusting the graphics setting for optimal power efficiency. This reduces reduces the laptop’s acoustic level during games.
NVIDIA WhisperMode is completely user-adjustable via GeForce Experience, and will be available for all NVIDIA Pascal-based laptops.
Availability Of NVIDIA Max-Q Gaming Laptops
Gaming laptops featuring GeForce GTX 1080, 1070 and 1060 GPUs using the new NVIDIA Max-Q design will be available starting June 27, 2017 from brands like Acer, Aftershock, Alienware, ASUS, Clevo, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, and MSI.
The first three gaming laptops to feature NVIDIA Max-Q are the ASUS Zephyrus, MSI GS63 and the Clevo P950.

You have seen our Radeon RX 480 review, so today, we are going to take a look at its CrossFire performance. For the uninitiated, that’s two Radeon RX 480 graphics cards running together.
You may recall that when Chief Architect of the Radeon Technologies Group, Raja Koduri, first revealed the Radeon RX 480, he made a startling claim that two Radeon RX 480 cards only utilized 51% of their processing capabilities to beat the GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card.

3DMark DirectX 12 Benchmark (2560 x 1440)
3DMark Time Spy is a new DirectX 12 benchmark that was released just days ago, just in time for this review. It supports new API features like asynchronous compute, explicit multi-adapter, and multi-threading.
In this DirectX 12 benchmark, the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire was 93% faster than the single Radeon RX 480. Very impressive. This allows the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire to beat the GeForce GTX 1070 by 33%. This gives the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire a slight (5.7%) price-performance advantage over the GeForce GTX 1070, albeit at twice the power consumption.
3DMark (1920 x 1080)
For Direct 11 performance, we started testing the graphics cards using 3DMark at the most common gaming resolution – 1920 x 1080.
At this relatively CPU-limited test, the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire was 95% faster than the single Radeon RX 480. It was also 31%-35% faster than the GeForce GTX 1070, 79-86% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060.
Note that the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire ended up about 12% slower than both the GeForce GTX 1070 and the GeForce GTX 980 Ti in the Combined Test, probably because it was CPU-limited.

3DMark (2560 x 1440)
Then we took 3DMark up a notch to the resolution of 2560 x 1440. Let’s take a look!
As the higher 1440p resolution, the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire was 96% faster than the single Radeon RX 480. However, its performance advantage over the GeForce GTX 1070 and GeForce GTX 1060 dropped to 27% and 74% respectively.
At this point, the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire loses its price-performance advantage over the GeForce GTX 1070. However, it still maintains a comfortable price-performance advantage over the GeForce GTX 1080.
3DMark (3840 x 2160)
This is a torture test, perfect for comparing the GeForce GTX 1070 and the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire.
At the 4K resolution, the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire was 23% faster than the GeForce GTX 1070, and 73% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060. If we had a GeForce GTX 1080, the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire would likely be slightly faster, with a significant price-performance advantage, albeit with significantly higher power consumption.

Ashes of the Singularity FAILED!
We tested Ashes of the Singularity in the DirectX 12 mode, which not only supports the new Asynchronous Compute feature, but is necessary to support the CrossFire mode for the two Radeon RX 480 cards.
Unfortunately, Ashes of the Singularity kept crashing whenever multi-GPU mode was enabled. There was simply no way to get it to run reliably, even though we tried 3 different driver versions.
As our GeForce GTX 1070 review shows, we have no issues running it with single graphics cards from both AMD and NVIDIA. It only failed when multi-GPU support was enabled. We will update this section when we finally get CrossFire mode running on Ashes of the Singularity.
Warhammer (1920 x 1080)
This chart shows you the minimum and maximum frame rates, as well as the average frame rate, recorded by Total War : Warhammer‘s internal DirectX 12 benchmark.
Looks like CrossFire isn’t working in Total War : Warhammer. The Radeon RX 480 CrossFire was actually 6.5% slower than the single Radeon RX 480 graphics card. It was just slightly faster than the GeForce GTX 1060.
Warhammer (2560 x 1440)
This chart shows you the minimum and maximum frame rates, as well as the average frame rate, recorded by Total War : Warhammer‘s internal DirectX 12 benchmark.
At the higher 1440p resolution, the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire was 7.7% slower than the single Radeon RX 480 graphics card, and 3.7% slower than the GeForce GTX 1060.
Warhammer (3840 x 2160)
This chart shows you the minimum and maximum frame rates, as well as the average frame rate, recorded by Total War : Warhammer‘s internal DirectX 12 benchmark.
At the 4K resolution, the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire was 4.9% slower than the single Radeon RX 480 graphics card, and 6.9% slower than the GeForce GTX 1060. It would definitely be a good idea to disable CrossFire mode when you play Total War : Warhammer.

The Witcher 3 (1920 x 1080)

The CrossFire mode worked in The Witcher 3 though. The Radeon RX 480 CrossFire achieved an average frame rate in excess of 100 fps. That makes its 59% faster than the single Radeon RX 480 graphics card, 49.6% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060, and 5% faster than the GeForce GTX 1070.
The Witcher 3 (2560 x 1440)

The Radeon RX 480 CrossFire maintained its performance lead at the 1440p resolution. It was 59% faster than the single Radeon RX 480 graphics card, 47.8% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060, and 5.6% faster than the GeForce GTX 1070.
The Witcher 3 (3840 x 2160)

The Radeon RX 480 CrossFire increased its performance lead at the 4K resolution. It was now 64.4% faster than the single Radeon RX 480 graphics card, 52.3% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060, and 8.9% faster than the GeForce GTX 1070.

Fallout 4 (1920 x 1080)

CrossFire did not work in Fallout 4, at least not in 1080p. The Radeon RX 480 CrossFire was actually 2.7% slower than the single Radeon RX 480 graphics card, and 16% slower than the GeForce GTX 1060.
Fallout 4 (2560 x 1440)

At the higher 1440p resolution, the CrossFire mode finally kicked in. The Radeon RX 480 CrossFire actually became 24% faster than the single Radeon RX 480 graphics card, and 9.6% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060.

Amazingly, when we hit 4K, the CrossFire mode really showed its mettle. The Radeon RX 480 CrossFire was now 62% faster than the single Radeon RX 480 graphics card, and 43.2% faster than the GeForce GTX 1060.

Our Opinion
The Radeon RX 480 CrossFire showed great promise in the 3DMark benchmarks. It was able to deliver 93% to 96% better performance than a single Radeon RX 480 graphics card.
The actual boost in frame rate was smaller, of course, due to CPU limits. But it proved to be faster than the GeForce GTX 1070 by 15% to 18% in DirectX 11, and 26% in DirectX 12. Very impressive.
Unfortunately, we do not have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 in our benchmark suite, but we know that it is roughly 20%-25% faster than the GeForce GTX 1070. So we can guesstimate that the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire will be slightly faster than the GeForce GTX 1080 in DirectX 12, and slightly slower in DirectX 11.

From a price-performance perspective, the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire ties with the GeForce GTX 1070, if we only take into account the 3DMark results. It loses out to the GeForce GTX 1070 when it comes to actual games, particularly in games that don’t work well or at all with CrossFire.
As you can tell from the table above, the reliability of the CrossFire mode is still quite iffy. That is really too bad, because the 3DMark results show that the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire has great potential, particularly in DirectX 12.
If AMD can get the CrossFire mode to work in all games, the Radeon RX 480 CrossFire is a great alternative to the GeForce GTX 1080. It offers equivalent performance at a 20% discount (US$478 vs. US$599), albeit with much higher power consumption (300W vs. 180W).

There Is No Mobile Pascal!
Believe it or not, NVIDIA will NOT be releasing any mobile Pascal GPU. Yes, you read that correctly. There will be NO MOBILE GPU based on the new NVIDIA Pascal microarchitecture.

Instead, NVIDIA will start using the DESKTOP GPUs based on the NVIDIA Pascal microarchitecture in laptops! Yes, they will have lower clock speeds, but they will be the same GPUs used in desktop graphics cards.
This is possible because the new Pascal GPUs are 3X more power-efficient than the previous-generation Maxwell GPUs. So it makes perfect sense to just use the desktop-grade GPUs. It is not only good for marketing purposes, it also allows NVIDIA to leverage more on the economies of scale.
But for brevity, we will continue to use the term “Pascal mobile GPU” to refer to Pascal GPUs used in mobile devices.

The M moniker is dead. The new Pascal mobile GPUs will NOT be called the GeForce GTX 1080M or GeForce GTX 1070M.

Price Performance Advantage
Although our sources, who shall remain unnamed, refused to divulge exact benchmark results, we were told that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 is about 50% faster than the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M, and about 30% faster than the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 used in certain gaming laptops.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 is said to add about US$50 to the cost of the laptop paid by the customer. That is cheap if the huge performance advantage pans out.

When we posted about the revelation of the AMD Radeon RX 480, RX 470 and RX 460 graphics cards, we pointed out the odd Radeon RX 480 AOTS benchmark results that were presented by Raja Koduri, Senior Vice President and Chief Architect, Radeon Technologies Group.
The good news is we now understand how AMD derived those results. The bad news is it casts AMD in a rather bad light, and detracts from the great value proposition that the Radeon RX 480 brings to the table. But first, a quick recap of the Radeon RX 480 AOTS benchmark controversy…
Odd Radeon RX 480 AOTS Benchmark Results
In the final minutes of his presentation, Raja Koduri showed how two Radeon RX 480 graphics cards can beat the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 [Amazon] graphics card for far less money. Based on the sub-$500 price, the results are based on the 8 GB variant of the Radeon RX 480. Check it out in this short video clip :
What’s really odd is that Raja Koduri explicitly pointed out that the two Radeon RX 480 graphics cards were only utilised to 51% to slightly best the GeForce GTX 1080. Those are frankly, really odd numbers.
If it’s true that the two Radeon RX 480 graphics cards have a 49% headroom after beating the GeForce GTX 1080, then a single Radeon RX 480 would actually beat the GeForce GTX 1080 [Amazon]!
In fact, if we extrapolate the results so that both cards have the same 98.7% GPU utilisation, the Radeon RX 480 would deliver a frame rate of 60.5 fps. That would make the Radeon RX 480 about 3% faster than the GeForce GTX 1080 [Amazon], which we know is just not possible…
How The AOTS Benchmark Was Conducted
Robert Hallock, Head of Global Technical Marketing, AMD, helped to clarify the controversial Radeon RX 480 AOTS results. First, let’s start with the technical details of the benchmark setup :

Robert then revealed the actual AOTS benchmark results and his take on them, which we will post verbatim :

The elephant in the room:
Ashes uses procedural generation based on a randomized seed at launch. The benchmark does look slightly different every time it is run. But that, many have noted, does not fully explain the quality difference people noticed.
At present the GTX 1080 is incorrectly executing the terrain shaders responsible for populating the environment with the appropriate amount of snow. The GTX 1080 is doing less work to render AOTS than it otherwise would if the shader were being run properly. Snow is somewhat flat and boring in color compared to shiny rocks, which gives the illusion that less is being rendered, but this is an incorrect interpretation of how the terrain shaders are functioning in this title.
The content being rendered by the RX 480 — the one with greater snow coverage in the side-by-side (the left in these images) — is the correct execution of the terrain shaders.
So, even with fudgy image quality on the GTX 1080 that could improve their performance a few percent, dual RX 480 still came out ahead.
As a parting note, I will mention we ran this test 10x prior to going on-stage to confirm the performance delta was accurate. Moving up to 1440p at the same settings maintains the same performance delta within +/-1%.

The Odd Radeon RX 480 AOTS Results Explained…
Robert Hallock was then asked about the odd 51% GPU utilisation result. He clarified that it was based on the single-batch (normal batch) data set, which was CPU-limited.
The single-batch or normal batch data set is about 60 seconds of scenes with lower (typically under 10,000) draw call counts. The medium batch data set consists of another 60 seconds of scenes with typical draw call counts between 10,000 and 20,000. The final heavy batch data set tests scenes with draw call counts in excess of 20,000.
To clarify this, the scaling from 1->2 GPUs in the dual RX 480 test we assembled is 1.83x. The OP was looking only at the lowest draw call rates when asking about the 51%. The single batch GPU utilization is 51% (CPU-bound), medium is 71.9% utilization (less CPU-bound) and heavy batch utilization is 92.3% (not CPU-bound). All together for the entire test, there is 1.83X the performance of a single GPU in what users saw on YouTube. The mGPU subsystem of AOTS is very robust.
Let Us Summarise The Points…
Based on his explanation, we can derive the following conclusions :
AMD claims that the GeForce GTX 1080 is performing a few percent better than it really should because it was improperly rendering the terrain in AOTS.
Two Radeon RX 480 graphics cards will deliver 83% better performance than a single Radeon RX 480 graphics card.
The benchmark scores are the average for the entire AOTS benchmark, which consists of the Normal Batch, Medium Batch and Heavy Batch data sets.
The 51% GPU utilisation was cherry-picked from the Normal Batch / Single Batch results.
The frame rate for Normal Batch / Single Batch data set was not revealed, but it would have been much, much lower than the 62.5 fps average frame rate.
The average GPU utilisation for the two AMD Radeon RX 480 cards was 71.7%, while the average GPU utilisation for the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 [Amazon] was 98.4%.
In short, the controversy was created by AMD cherry-picking the GPU utilisation of the most CPU-limited portion of the AOTS benchmark, while comparing the average frame rate achieved in the entire AOTS benchmark.

What Does This Mean?
Despite what Raja Koduri said in the video clip, there isn’t “much, much more headroom” for developers to squeeze out of the Radeon RX 480. That 49% headroom was only seen because the test was CPU-limited.
The two Radeon RX 480 cards were literally “chilling” 49% of the time, because they were waiting for the CPU to finish processing the AI and physics, before rendering a new frame. In fact, they most likely delivered a much lower frame rate as a result of being CPU-limited.
AMD inaccurately compared the average frame rate of the entire Ashes of the Singularity benchmark with the GPU utilisation of the Single Batch / Normal Batch portion of the benchmark (which is CPU-limited). Here is our rough correction of their comparison, based on the average GPU utilisation for the entire benchmark :
The adjusted results are still impressive, because it shows that there is still some headroom. Just not as much as was presented. We have no idea why they needed to cherry-pick that result, since the Radeon RX 480 will still impress gamers from the performance/cost point of view.
Based on our extrapolation of their comments, we can guesstimate that a single AMD Radeon RX 480 graphics card will deliver an average frame rate of 34 fps in the Ashes of the Singularity benchmark. That means the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition [Amazon] is about 72.6% faster than the Radeon RX 480.
That sounds about right, and is hardly surprising since the GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition [Amazon] costs US$699 while the Radeon RX 480 (8 GB) will only cost US$229. There is nothing for AMD to be ashamed of achieving “only 58%” of the GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition’s performance. After all, it costs less than 1/3 of the price!

On May 6, NVIDIA revealed the first gaming GPU based on their new Pascal architecture – the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080. The GeForce GTX 1080 not only boasts the latest Pascal architecture, it is also fabricated on the new 16 nm FinFET process technology and uses the new GDDR5X memory.
Although we were not in Austin, Texas for the official launch, NVIDIA invited us to an exclusive tech briefing in Bangkok on May 20th. While these hardware specifications are well-known by now, this was a technical briefing that would give us greater insights into the other new technologies that are being introduced with the GeForce GTX 1080.
NVIDIA brought in the big guns for the tech briefing and demonstration – Nick Stam (NVIDIA Senior Technical Marketing Director), Jeff Yen (NVIDIA Senior Technical Marketing Manager) and John Gillooly (NVIDIA Technical Marketing Manager). NVIDIA Simultaneous Multi-Projection Explained
In this 19 minute-long video, Nick and Jeff explains how the new NVIDIA Simultaneous Multi-Projection technology will make a huge difference for gamers with multi-monitor setups, or virtual reality headsets. How Simultaneous Multi-Projection Delivers Better Performance
The new Simultaneous Multi-Projection architecture of the NVIDIA Pascal-based GPUs will be able to tackle two unique performance challenges that virtual reality creates – Lens Matched Shading and Single Pass Stereo.
Lens Matched Shading improves pixel shading performance by rendering closely to the warped dimensions of VR display output. This avoids rendering many pixels that would otherwise be discarded before the image is output to the VR headset.
Single Pass Stereo turbocharges geometry performance by drawing geometry only once, and then simultaneously projecting both right-eye and left-eye views of the geometry. This effectively halves the workload of traditional VR rendering, which requires the GPU to draw geometry twice — once for the left eye and once for the right eye.
Both techniques allow developers to increase performance and visual detail of their VR applications. Combined with the performance of GTX 1080 GPUs, Simultaneous Multi-Projection delivers a dramatic 2x VR performance improvement over the GeForce GTX TITAN X.

NVIDIA Ansel Explained
NVIDIA Ansel not just an in-game screenshot utility. It actually detaches you, the player, from the in-game limitations so you can capture your in-game shots in ways not possible before. You can also adjust the screenshots with a variety of post-process filters, or capture HDR images in super high resolution. You can even create 360-degree screenshots to display on your VR headset!
Here is a summary of NVIDIA Ansel’s key features :
Free Camera – Activating NVIDIA Ansel pauses the game and enables the Free Camera capability. This allows you to escape the first- or third-person perspective and compose your scene in any position, alignment or range, before taking unlimited high-resolution screenshots.
Super Resolution – Selecting the High Resolution option allows you to capture screenshots that are tens of thousands of pixels in size. This allows you to downsample the screenshot later, or zoom in to capture detail cannot be seen with the naked eye.
Post-Process Filters – NVIDIA Ansel comes with brightness, vignette, sketch, colour enhancer and special FX filters for added creativity. Users can even create and share their own special FX filters.
OpenEXR Capture – You can export Ansel screenshots in Industrial Light & Magic’s OpenEXR format so you can adjust the exposure, colour and levels in post-processing without creating artifacts.
360 Capture – This option allows you to create and share 360 degree screenshots for VR headsets.

VRWorks: A New Level of Presence for VR
To fully immerse users in virtual worlds, the enhanced NVIDIA VRWorks software development kit offers a never before experienced level of “VR presence.” It combines what users see, hear and touch with the physical behavior of the environment to convince them that their virtual experience is real.
2x VR Graphics Performance: VRWorks Graphics now includes a simultaneous multi-projection capability that renders natively to the unique dimensions of VR displays instead of traditional, 2D monitors. It also renders geometry for the left and right eyes simultaneously in a single pass.
Enveloping Audio: VRWorks Audio uses the NVIDIA OptiX ray-tracing engine to trace the path of sounds across an environment in real time, fully reflecting the size, shape and material of the virtual world.
Interactive Touch and Physics: NVIDIA PhysX for VR detects when a hand controller interacts with a virtual object, and enables the game engine to provide a physically accurate visual and haptic response. It also models the physical behavior of the virtual world around the user so that all interactions — whether an explosion or a hand splashing through water — behave as if in the real world.
NVIDIA has integrated these technologies into a new VR experience called VR Funhouse.

They can capture screenshots at up to 32x screen resolution, and then zoom in where they choose without losing fidelity. With photo-filters, they can add effects in real time before taking the perfect shot. And they can capture 360-degree stereo photospheres for viewing in a VR headset or Google Cardboard.

GeForce GTX 1080 Availability and Pricing
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 “Founders Edition” will be available on May 27 for $699. It will be available from ASUS, Colorful, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Innovision 3D, MSI, NVIDIA. Palit, PNY and Zotac. Custom boards from partners will vary by region and pricing is expected to start at $599.
The GeForce GTX 1080 will also be sold in fully configured systems from leading U.S.-based system builders, including AVADirect, Cyberpower, Digital Storm, Falcon Northwest, Geekbox, IBUYPOWER, Maingear, Origin PC, Puget Systems, V3 Gaming and Velocity Micro, as well as system integrators outside North America.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 “Founders Edition” will be available on June 10 for $449. Custom boards from partners are expected to start at $379.
Ansel will be available in upcoming releases and patches of games such as Tom Clancy’s The Division, The Witness, Lawbreakers, The Witcher 3, Paragon, No Man’s Sky, Obduction, Fortnite and Unreal Tournament.
