The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Up Close!

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) is powered by the 8th Generation Intel H series 6-core processor, with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics and fast NVMe SSD storage.

Lenovo offers two 15.6-inch display options :

a Full HD IPS display with 300 nits brightness and 72% Adobe RGB colour gamut, or
a 4K UHD HDR display with 400 nits brightness and 100% Adobe RGB colour gamut

The Full HD display option is slightly (0.3 mm) thinner and marginally (100 grams) lighter than the 4K UHD display option.

Despite sporting a large 15.6-inch display, it is only 18 mm thick, and weighs just 1.8 kg. It even has a long-lasting 80 Whr battery inside!

In addition to processor options, Lenovo also allows you to customise the following options :

Dual Fan, Dual Heatpipe Cooling

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) is designed to run in the most extreme conditions. Hence, it is kept cool by a dual-fan, dual-heatpipe cooling system that you can just see through the large vents on its underside.

The two heatpipes whisk heat away from the CPU and GPU to the two heatsinks – each kept cool by a fan that sucks in cool air from the underside. The hot air is then exhausted out the back. The inside of the chassis is also kept cool passively by large vents.

Webcam + Optional IR Camera

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) comes with a very basic 720p webcam. At this price point, we would have expected at least a 1080p webcam. But at least it comes with a ThinkShutter privacy cover.

Lenovo offers an optional IR camera, which we highly recommend because it allows for the more secure Windows Hello login method.

The IR camera also supports the Lenovo Glance technology, which merges face-, eye- and gaze-tracking. It allows the cursor to automatically focus on where you are looking at, or windows to shift with a move of your eyes. This is especially useful when you are working on multiple monitors.

Lay Flat Display

Whether you opt for the Full HD or 4K UHD panel, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) has a lay-flat display design. Its hinge is designed to let the display lay completely flat.

This makes it easier to work with other people, particularly since the display is touch-sensitive and supports writing with a pen. Lenovo offers an optional pen, but you can also use a third-party pen like the Genius Pen.

Fingerprint Sensor

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) has an enterprise-grade fingerprint sensor. Instead of being integrated into the Power button, it is built into the chassis, to the right of the keyboard.

It uses a Match-on-Chip fingerprint sensor, which means the fingerprint data is registered, stored and verified by the fingerprint reader chip itself.

This prevents a hacker or malware from using a man-in-the-middle attack to falsely verify a fake fingerprint.

Keyboard + Touch Pad + TrackPoint

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) has a full-sized keyboard that is spill-resistant. That means it will withstand a small spill of water without shorting out.

In addition to its glass touchpad, the ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) comes with the iconic ted TrackPoint joystick. Also known as a pointing stick, the TrackPoint is pressure-activated, allowing for faster and better cursor control with minimal movement.

Connectivity Options

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) comes with a plethora of connectivity options and ports.

Wirelessly, it supports 802.11 AC 2×2 WiFi connectivity, which means it has dual transmit and receive antennas for better reception and range. It also supports the latest Bluetooth 5.0 technology.

Battery + Charging

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) comes with a 4-Cell Li-Cylinder battery that Lenovo says will last up to 15 hours.

It has a total capacity of 80 Watt-hours, which means it will last one hour if the X1 Extreme uses 80 watts of power, or two hours if it uses 40 watts, or four hours if it sips just 20 watts of power.

Lenovo pairs it with a compact 135 watt rapid charging adaptor that they promise will recharge the battery to 80% in just one hour. A small LED indicator light next to the power port tells you the X1 Extreme’s charging status at a glance.

PCMark 10 – Productivity App Performance

Surprisingly, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) only scored 4,332 in PCMark 10 on AC power.

Many other laptops powered by the Intel Core i7-8850H processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU would score just over 5,200 – about 20% higher.

When we switched to battery power, its performance was throttled by about 31% to improve battery life.

3DMark Fire Strike (DX11, 1920 x 1080)

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) scored 6,323 on Fire Strike, using the Max-Q version of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.

This makes it about ⅓ as fast as a gaming laptop based on the full-powered NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, which would score around 15,800.

If you run it on battery power, its performance gets throttled by about 21%, reducing its Fire Strike score to just under 5,000.

3DMark Time Spy Strike (DX12, 1920 x 1080)

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) scored 2,393 on Time Spy – about ⅓ as fast as a full-powered NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, which would score around 7,000.

When we switched to battery power, its performance was throttled by 9.5% – the smallest drop we recorded.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) looks and feels every bit like business laptop – from its angular design all the way to its matte black colour scheme. But it’s far more than just another mobile workstation.

Beneath its business-like veneer is a tough laptop that not only offers enterprise-grade Lenovo ThinkShield protection from factory till the end of its lifespan, but also military-grade toughness. In fact, every ThinkPad X1 Extreme has to pass 12 military-grade tests.

These aspects are important to note because the ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) is neither the most powerful mobile workstation in the market, nor does it offer the best performance for the money. In fact, our benchmarks show that it consistently underperforms laptops with the same processor and graphics card.

Performance, mark our words, is not what the ThinkPad X1 Extreme is offering. It is the entirety of the package that differentiates the X1 Extreme from its competitors – configurability, security and reliability in a thin and light package.

If you have the cash to spare, it offers an incredible 4K HDR display with 400 nits of brightness and 100% Adobe RGB colour gamut. You can also configure it with up to 64 GB of DDR4 memory, and up to two PCIe SSDs offering up to 2 TB of storage!

You can also count on its diverse connectivity options – super-fast Wireless-AC and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, with many ports to use – the latest Thunderbolt 3 / USB-C ports as well as the good-old 3.5 mm audio port!

It’s not just work, work, work though. The ThinkPad X1 Extreme (US | UK) supports Dolby Audio Premium and Dolby Atmos, so it doubles as a great entertainment and gaming laptop after a hard day’s work.

Just don’t expect to game at 4K. Its GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU with Max-Q Design is fast enough for 1080p gaming.

NVIDIA Quietly Releases GeForce GTX 1050 3GB!

While the world waits for NVIDIA Ampere to finally see the light of day, NVIDIA quietly releases a new budget graphics card – the GeForce GTX 1050 3GB! Here are the full details!

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 3GB

Featuring a higher-clocked GP106 GPU, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 3GB slides in between the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (Price Check), and the “original” GeForce GTX 1050 (Price Check) with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory. There was no official announcement. NVIDIA just slipped it into their GeForce GTX 1050 page.

The new GeForce GTX 1050 3GB is a bit of an oddball. It features the same GPU as the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, clocked higher, so it has 8.5% higher texture and pixel fill rates. Yet, NVIDIA “crippled” it by giving it a 96-bit memory bus, reducing its memory bandwidth by 25%.

The end result – the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 3GB has a 8.5% faster GPU than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, but 25% less memory bandwidth than the GeForce GTX 1050. It comes with 3GB of GDDR5 memory though – 50% more than the “original” GeForce GTX 1050.

Is this a response to the launch of AMD Raven Ridge desktop APUs, like the Ryzen 5 2400G or the Ryzen 3 2200G? This is certainly a curious, late addition to the esports graphics card market…

The 2018 Alienware 15 and 17 gaming laptops come with the new 8th Generation Intel Core i5, i7, and i9 processors with up to 6 cores, enabling overclocking up to 5.0 GHz for the first time. The Thunderobot DINO, 911GT, 911SE + ST Plus Revealed!

Thunderobot is a new gaming laptop brand from China, that has just launched their first overseas expansion right here in Malaysia. They unveiled the first slew of gaming laptops – the Thunderobot DINO, the Thunderobot 911GT and 911SE, as well as the Thunderobot ST Plus.

To explain what Thunderobot is all about, and their current gaming laptops is Darya Wang, Thunderobot Overseas Marketing Director.

The Thunderobot DINO Gaming Laptop

The Thunderobot DINO is their flagship gaming laptop with a spaceship-like design. It features a space-grey metal chassis with a breathing blue logo. The DINO is powered by the Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 GPU, with a 15.6″ full HD IPS display.

To ensure optimal gaming performance, the DINO features an enhanced thermal design with dual fans and 4 copper heat pipes. The RGB backlit keyboard features surface carved keycaps, allowing the user to game in dimly-lit or dark environments.

The Thunderobot 911GT Gaming Laptop

The Thunderobot 911GT has a 17.3″ IPS display, and an integrated subwoofer, for a more immersive gaming experience. It is powered by the Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU.

Like the DINO, the 911GT also comes with an enhanced thermal design with dual fans and 4 copper heat pipes. It comes with a white backlit keyboard for gaming in dark environments.

The Thunderobot 911SE Gaming Laptop

The Thunderobot 911SE features a unique polygon-edge design, and a white backlit keyboard with surface-carved keycap. It is powered by the Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU.

The Thunderobot ST Plus Gaming Laptop

The Thunderobot ST Plus is powered by the Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU. It features an RGB backlit keyboard, with surface-carved keycaps. Despite its power and 15″ display, it weighs only 2.3 kg and has a 27 mm slim profile.

COLORFUL iGame GTX1080Ti Vulcan X OC Released!

May 05^th, 2017 Shenzhen, China – Colorful Technology Company Limited is pleased to announce the release of the world’s first graphics card with built-in LCD display : the iGame GTX1080Ti Vulcan X OC. Finally ready for release, the card will be initially sold in China from May 5 onwards.

The iGame GTX1080Ti Vulcan X OC features a factory overclock of 1620 MHz on the core frequency and has a boost clock of 1733 MHz thanks to GPU Boost. The card runs 11 GB GDDR5X memory wired to a 352-bit bus. The card features a 16+2 phase digital power supply reinforced by IPP (iGame Pure Power) and is equipped with the SWORIZER cooler with built-in iGame Status Monitor as well as 1.68 million color-capable RGB lighting.

The new SWORIZER cooler features a redesigned thermal solution that places the contact position of the heatpipe all in one copper base and uses a C-type design to reduce thermal resistance and enhance heat conduction efficiency.

The cooling fins are cooled by three 92mm duall ball-bearing Saw Sickle fans which cools 86% more surface area than the suaul double-groove coolers. This design ultimately cools the iGame GTX1080TI Vulcan X OC.

The iGame Status Monitor

During its debut, customers from China and overseas talked about the screen on the cooler when they saw the iGame GTX1080TI Vulcan X OC. Now, the LCD screen receives an official name: the iGame Status Monitor. The display shows core frequency, core temperature, fan speed and memory used during operation. Aside from that, it also shows the status of the load level of the cards so the users are aware of the operating condition of the GPU.

Celebrating their 20th anniversary, Alienware just revealed their new line of Alienware gaming notebooks powered by the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10 Series GPUs, as well as the Alienware Aurora gaming desktop. During their Dawn of Domination launch event, Dell also revealed the new 2016 Dell XPS and Dell Inspiron models. Check out the details, pictures and videos from the event!

2016 Alienware Gaming Notebooks Launched

The event kicked off with the launch gambit, where two models hovered in with the 2016 Alienware 17 and Alienware 15 gaming laptops.

Then Ray Wah, Senior VP of Dell Consumer Product Marketing, introduced the 2016 Alienware 13, 15 and 17 gaming notebooks.

The product presentation of the 2016 Alienware gaming laptops and the Aurora desktop was conducted by Charlie Cheah, Consumer Business Brand Manager of Dell Malaysia. She also revealed the key features of the 2016 Dell XPS Tower and Dell Inspiron 15 gaming laptop.

2016 Alienware 17

The new Alienware 17 gains more power with overclocked Intel Core i7 k-series processors and DDR4 memory running up to 2667 MHz. There is also the option for IR Tobii eye-tracking technology, with a new Overwolf app to help gamers to learn from their mistakes.

Tobii partnered with Alienware to add exclusive features including enhanced presence detection tied to their AlienFX lighting zones – the full LED system illuminates and changes based on where you look. The Tobii camera can also sense your presence and attention, or lock your system when you walk away.

2016 Alienware 15

The new mid-size Alienware 15 balances gaming performance with portability. With more power in a thinner frame, it comes with graphics options from AMD and NVIDIA, including the VR-ready NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060.

Coming standard with a 15.6” FHD, IPS Anti-Glare, 300-nits display, additional options include FHD 120Hz display with NVIDIA G-Sync technology and UHD IGZO for 4K resolutions. It also boasts a 68 watt-hour lithium ion battery and an optional 99 watt-hour battery for extended gameplay on-the-go.

2016 Alienware 13

The new Alienware 13 is configurable with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10-Series graphics, making it one of the most compact VR-ready notebooks ever. It also boasts eight programmable lighting zones with up to 20 distinct colors that allow for trillions of LED lighting combinations.

2016 Alienware Aurora Desktop

Launched in June, the 2016 Alienware Aurora has a smaller footprint than the previous Aurora. However, it boasts up to two NVIDIA GeForce cards for 4K gaming. Performance improvements also include the latest Intel CPUs, available with liquid cooling, and overclockable Kingston Fury X memory running at 2400 MHz.

The 2016 Aurora is also Alienware’s first chassis with tool-less access for easy swapping of GPUs and as many as 3 of the 5 potential storage drives. Naturally, it supports custom lighting with AlienFX and total control with Alienware Command Center.

Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming

This new gaming notebook features dedicated forward and rearward thermal outlets concealing heat exchangers connected to dual cooling fans with high-efficiency blades. All engineered to handle the 6th Gen Intel H-series quad core mobile CPUs and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M GPU with 4 GB of GDDR5 memory. And all that is powered by a 74 watt-hour battery for a longer battery life.

2016 Inspiron 15 5000

The new Inspiron 15 5000 offers a thinner design with the latest Intel 7th Generation Core i7 processors. It will come with an array of fun colours like Sparkling White, Midnight Blue, Bali Blue, Tango Red and Cosmic Purple. Options include a Full HD display with TrueColor and an infrared camera for Windows Hello, and a Blu-ray writer.

2016 XPS Tower

The XPS Tower and XPS Tower Special Edition desktops will come with the 6^th Generation Intel Core processors and up to 64GB of DDR4 memory. You can opt for the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, and cached hard disk drive storage. Impressively, the new redesigned chassis are 27% smaller than its previous desktop tower.

The XPS Tower Special Edition configurations will meet the recommended specifications to power an ideal VR experience with either the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. The Oculus Ready configurations have been tested and approved by Oculus to work well with the Oculus Rift headset.

John Gillooly (NVIDIA Technical Marketing Manager) kicked off the event, giving us the technical details of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10-Series for Notebooks.

Acer Predator 15 / 17 Gaming Laptops

Up next is the MSI GT73VR Titan SLI, which has two GeForce GTX 1070 GPUs in SLI. The thin and light MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro will feature the GeForce GTX 1060.
