  • Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G

Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G

This is basically the existing Snapdragon 778G, with slightly higher clock speeds for its Kryo 670 CPU and Adreno 642L GPU cores. Its prime Kryo 670 CPU core, for example, will at 2.5 GHz, instead of 2.4 GHz.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 5G is a new mobile SoC, featuring a Kryo 660 CPU that clocks at up to 2.2 GHz, with an Adreno 619 GPU.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 is a 4G mobile SoC, built on the 6 nm process technology.

It features a Kryo 265 CPU that clocks at up to 2.4 GHz, and an Adreno 610 GPU. It also comes with the X11 LTE modem and FastConnect 6100 Wi-Fi connectivity, which supports up to 802.11ac.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 Plus introduces 5G connectivity to the entry-level 4-series mobile platform for the first time.

It comes with a Kryo 460 CPU that clocks at up to 2.0 GHz, and the same Adreno 619 GPU as the Snapdragon 695 above.

It also comes with the same X51 5G modem and FastConnect 6200 Wi-Fi 6 connectivity as the Snapdragon 695, but with Bluetooth 5.1, instead of Bluetooth 5.2.

LG Mobile Shuts Down : Another Brand Bites The Dust!

It is official – LG has called it quits on its mobile phone division, shutting it down for good!

Find out what happened, and what this means to us – the consumers!

LG Mobile Shuts Down : Another Brand Bites The Dust!

On 5 March 2021, LG announced that its board of directors approved the decision to shut down its mobile business unit.

This came after rumours that LG was looking into “various options such as a sale, split sales or pulling out of the smartphone business“.

Even though LG had a strong following in the United States, in third place with 13% market share, that was not enough to turn a profit.

LG Mobile has consistently lost mobile hand over fist, even after trying all sorts of way to get consumer mindshare through devices like LG Wing, which featured a secondary display that swivelled out behind the main display.

If you can’t remember any notable LG mobile devices you have actually seen and tried out, you are not alone. This is why LG Mobile is no more.

After closing down LG Mobile, their focus will be in growth areas such as :

  • electric vehicle components,
  • connected devices,
  • smart homes,
  • robotics
  • artificial intelligence
  • business-to-business solutions
  • platforms and services

LG Mobile Shut Down : Effect On Consumers?

LG said that they will continue to sell their current inventory, but expect to complete the process of shutting down their business by 31 July 2021.

Even so, they assure customers that they will continue to provide service support and software updates of existing LG smartphones for “a period of time which will vary by region“.

So if you really love LG smartphones, you still have time and opportunity to grab one.

You may have to live with the fact that you will likely lose support and software updates after a year or so.

The loss of another brand will undoubtedly mean fewer choices, but is that really a bad thing?

Frankly speaking, there are way too many smartphone releases every year, and it’s getting really hard to differentiate them, never mind justify a yearly upgrade.

So, no one will really miss LG Mobile’s demise. And who knows? It could end up being resurrected like Nokia and Motorola!

LG Mobile Shut Down : Official Statement

Here is the official statement that LG issued on 5 March 2021 :

SEOUL, April 5, 2021 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) announced that it is closing its mobile business unit. The decision was approved by its board of directors earlier today.

LG’s strategic decision to exit the incredibly competitive mobile phone sector will enable the company to focus resources in growth areas such as electric vehicle components, connected devices, smart homes, robotics, artificial intelligence and business-to-business solutions, as well as platforms and services.

Current LG phone inventory will continue to be available for sale. LG will provide service support and software updates for customers of existing mobile products for a period of time which will vary by region. LG will work collaboratively with suppliers and business partners throughout the closure of the mobile phone business. Details related to employment will be determined at the local level.

Moving forward, LG will continue to leverage its mobile expertise and develop mobility-related technologies such as 6G to help further strengthen competitiveness in other business areas. Core technologies developed during the two decades of LG’s mobile business operations will also be retained and applied to existing and future products.

The wind down of the mobile phone business is expected to be completed by July 31 although inventory of some existing models may still be available after that.

The Motorola Moto G5 Plus Offer, Specifications & Preview

The Motorola Moto G5 Plus is here! We had the opportunity earlier last week to have our first-ever hands-on preview of the Moto G5 Plus smartphone. We also managed to unearth some preliminary information on the Moto G5 Plus. Check out the preview and pre-launch details!

The Moto G5 Plus Preview

The Motorola Moto G5 Plus is a mid-range smartphone with a 5.2″ full HD display. It runs on the new Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, and is powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC. Motorola offers variants with 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM and either 16 GB or 32 GB of storage. But we can confirm that only the top model with 4 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage will be sold in Malaysia.

Even though Motorola pegs the G5 Plus as a mid-range smartphone, it boasts a 12 MP main camera with a Dual Pixel sensor which allows for more accurate and very fast autofocus. This is usually a feature of flagship smartphone models. It is also supported by a dual LED flash, and is capable of recording 4K videos at 30 fps.

The Moto G5 Plus has a 3,000 mAh lithium-ion battery, which supports 15 W TurboPower charging. According to Moto, a 15 minute charge is enough to give you an additional 6 hours of power. In addition, the G5 Plus has a full metal chassis, and is protected in the front by Gorilla Glass 3. Motorola also gave it nano coating that repels water, but it is not water-resistant.

Android 7.0 Nougat Now Available On Moto Z

2 February 2017Moto Z (Amazon / Lazada) owners can expect the latest and sweetest update in the form of Android 7.0 Nougat; while Moto Z Play owners can expect the update notification later this month. These updates are part of Moto’s strategy of bringing the best new software and features to customers, and solidifies Lenovo’s commitment to the Moto brand and the Moto Mods-enabled Moto Z Family.

You Can Now Upgrade Your Moto Z to Android 7.0 Nougat

With the Android 7.0 Nougat update, Moto Z family (Amazon / Lazada) users will be able to make their devices more personal, more convenient and more customisable. Read on for a quick summary of what the Nougat update will offer.

Multi-Window View

Moto Z and Z Play (Amazon / Lazada) users will now enjoy the ultimate multitasking experience. With just a tap to the overview button, Nougat brings the ability to display two apps on the Moto Z and Z Play’s 5.5-inch Full HD screen at the same time. Now you can watch a movie while reading movie trivia on your browser, or keep an eye on where your car-sharing ride is, while texting your friends letting them know you’re on the way.

*Not all apps support multi-window view. The developer of the app needs to enable multi-window view.

Bundled Notifications and Direct Reply

Stay up to date with everything that’s going on with just a glance. Notifications are now grouped together when coming from the same app. This gives the user a more streamlined and visually pleasing experience when pulling down the notifications bar. On top of that, say goodbye to having to leave an app, just to reply to a text message. With Direct Reply, you can respond to messages within the notifications bar, letting you get back to what you were doing, without having to ever leave the app.

Enhanced Doze Mode

When you are not using your Moto Z or Z Play (Amazon / Lazada), Doze Mode will automatically kick in saving battery so that you’ll have enough to last later in the day. Doze Mode will now also work when you’re on the go, so don’t worry if your device is in your pocket or handbag – it’s still working to save battery.

Data Saver

[adrotate banner=”4″]

Battery is not the only thing the Nougat update will save. With Data Saver turned on, the apps running in the background will not be able to use mobile data. Saving data that is unnecessarily being spent means more data for your photo uploads to social media, and much more music and video streaming.

Custom Quick Settings

Added customisability means putting what you want, where you want them. With Nougat, you can rearrange the quick settings however you like. This allows you to change your desired setting quickly and conveniently with just a few taps.

Daydream Virtual Reality

Daydream by Google takes you on incredible adventures in virtual reality with your Moto Z (Amazon / Lazada). Moto Z is the perfect device for virtual reality, with its high resolution Quad HD display, high-powered processor and precise sensors. Nougat brings Daydream compatibility to the Moto Z (Amazon / Lazada). Daydream, Google’s VR platform, allows users to immerse themselves into all the experiences you love and aspire to do.

Evolution Of Google Nexus : Huawei’s Transcendence

Google opened up the smartphone market with their introduction of the Android operating system. From a small handful of smartphone manufacturers, there is now a plethora of small to large manufacturers. That has led to the creation of thousands of smartphone models, with their own blend of design, features and price point.

For the purist though, there is nothing better than a true Google smartphone with a clean, pure Android operating system. No bloatware to waste memory and clog up the system. Google finally catered to the demand when they created the Google Nexus series of pure Android smartphones.

Wary of entering the market as a competitor, Google threaded carefully by creating the Nexus smartphones with various smartphone partners. They even made sure they switched partners over the years to “give everyone a chance”.

Let’s take a look at the evolution of Google’s Nexus project and how it led to the new Huawei Nexus 6P smartphone.

Google Nexus One

Google chose to work HTC on the first Nexus smartphone, dubbed Nexus One. Launched in January 2010, the Google Nexus One ran Android 2.1 Eclair on a single-core Qualcomm processor with 512 MB of RAM and 512 MB of internal storage. It also came with 5 MP camera.

The Nexus One was notable for its performance and its 3.7″ AMOLED display, although that was eventually replaced with a Super LCD display. HTC eventually released their HTC Desire, which is very similar in specifications to the Nexus One.

Google Nexus S

Google then worked with Samsung to create and manufacture the second-generation Nexus smartphone – the Google Nexus S.

The Nexus S shipped with a 4″ Super AMOLED display, a Samsung Exynos processor, 512 MB of RAM and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It was notable for being the first Android smartphone to feature NFC.

Google Galaxy Nexus

Google continued with Samsung for their third Android smartphone – the Galaxy Nexus. Launched in October 2011, it was the first smartphone to feature the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The Galaxy Nexus continued to use a Super AMOLED display but upgrades the other aspects – a dual-core ARM Cortex processor, 1 GB of memory and support for MHL output as well as Google Wallet.

Google Nexus 4

For their fourth Nexus smartphone, Google decided to work with LG Electronics. Launched in November 2012, the Google Nexus 4 featured a quad-core ARM Krait processor, 2 GB of RAM and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

The Nexus 4 was notable for its Qi wireless charging capability, as well as its front and rear glass construction with a holographic design on the back. It also came with a higher resolution 8 MP rear camera, and a 1.3 MP front camera.

Google Nexus 5

Google continued to work with LG Electronics on the Google Nexus 5 smartphone. Revealed on October 31st, 2013, it featured a more subdued (and tougher) polycarbonate design.

The Nexus 5 was notable for offering a great deal of hardware for the price. Launched with Android 4.4 KitKat, it featured a quad-core ARM Krait 400 processor, a 4.95″ full HD (1080p) IPS display, and support for LTE.

Google Nexus 6

Google then switched to Motorola for the Nexus 6 smartphone. It was the first Google Nexus device to feature a 6″ Quad HD (2560 x 1440) AMOLED display and Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The Google Nexus 6 was also notable for its sleek design, which belies its large form factor. It also features a large 3220 mAh battery with fast charging capability, as well as a high-resolution 13 MP main camera with optical image stabilization.

Google Nexus 5X

The Google Nexus 5X is an evolution of the Nexus 5, both manufactured by LG. It is the first Android device to feature the Nexus Imprint fingerprint sensor, and the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.

The Nexus 5X is notable for the introduction of the Android Sensor Hub, a low-power processor designed to take over the handling of the Nexus 5X’s sensors. This reduces the amount of power consumed by its 6-core ARM processor.

Google Nexus 6P

Alongside the Nexus 5X, Google also launched the Google Nexus 6P, which was co-designed with and manufactured by Huawei. As the flagship model of the two Nexus devices designed for the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, the Huawei-made Nexus 6P is equipped with hardware to kill for.

Like the LG-made Nexus 5X, the Huawei-made Nexus 6P also features the Nexus Imprint fingerprint sensor and the Android Sensor Hub. But that’s where the similarities end.

[adrotate banner=”4″]The Nexus 6P is powered by an octa-core ARM processor, and comes with 3 GB of LPDDR4 memory and up to 128 GB of internal storage. The Nexus 6P eschewed wireless charging capability for a high-capacity 3,450 mAh battery that fast-charges through a USB Type-C connector.

It also features a 5.7″ WQHD AMOLED display (2560 x 1440) with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection and dual-ported speakers. Instead of a glass or polycarbonate case, the Nexus 6P is the first Nexus smartphone to feature an all-metal chassis.

In the photography department, it sports a 12.3 MP main camera that is capable of recording 4K videos, and comes with laser autofocus. Its front camera has a 8 MP sensor that records HD videos.

This is definitely the Android smartphone to beat this year!
