Nikon Malaysia Ceases Operation On 1 January 2021!
Nikon (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. today announced that they will cease operations on 1 January 2021, with their last business day on 31 December 2020.
That marks the end of almost 19 years of presence in Malaysia – Nikon Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. was established in April 2001.
The writing has been on the wall for sometime now… the photography market has been hammered by the ubiquitousness of smartphone cameras, and even mirrorless cameras cannot stop the haemorrhage.
As sad as it may be for Nikon users, it comes to no surprise that Nikon Malaysia has decided to call it quits.

The Nikon Z7 Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera
The Nikon Z7 is built around a full-frame FX-format BSI CMOS sensor with 45.7 megapixels, and a sensitivity range of ISO 64-25,600. It also boasts the latest EXPEED 6 processor. Let’s take a closer look at the Nikon Z7, and its key features!
New BSI CMOS Sensor
The Nikon Z7 features a new backside illumination (BSI) CMOS sensor with built-in focal-plane phase-detection autofocus pixels. This BSI CMOS sensor has an effective pixel rate of 45.7 megapixels, and supports a sensitivity range of ISO 64-25,600, although it can be adjusted to ISO 32-102,400.
Hybrid AF System
The Nikon Z7 has 493 focus points, covering about 90% of the imaging area both horizontally and vertically. Its hybrid AF system uses an FX-optimised algorithm to automatically switch between focal-plane phase detection AF, and contrast-detect AF with focusing.
Full-Frame Electronic Viewfinder
The electronic viewfinder used in the Nikon Z7 has a 3,960K dot OLED panel, and covers approximately 100% of the frame with a 0.8X magnification. It also boasts a fluorine coat to repel dirt and oil.
Professional Video Recording Features
The Nikon Z7 supports recording of 4K videos at 30 fps, and 1080p videos at up to 120 fps. It also supports 4K video recording with a full-pixel readout using the DX movies format.
Active D-Lighting, electronic image stabilisation, and focus peaking can be used with both 4K and 1080p video recording. Nikon’s N-log can also be used with 10-bit HDMI output.
First In-Body Image Stabilisation
The Nikon Z7 comes with Nikon’s first in-body image stabilisation that compensates for movement in five axes. The vibration reduction is equivalent to a shutter speed increase of approximately 5 stops.

Nikon today officially unveiled the Nikon Z7 and Nikon Z6 – their first-ever full-frame mirrorless cameras, as well as the new line of NIKKOR Z lenses.

The Official Nikon Z7 + Nikon Z6 Tech Briefing
Albert Yap, Assistant Manager of International Customer Support, Nikon Singapore, gave the tech briefing on the new Nikon Z7 and Nikon Z6 cameras, as well as the new NIKKOR Z lenses.
The Nikon Z7 and Nikon Z6 cameras are based on the new Nikon Z Mount. The Z Mount has a 55 mm diameter, with a very short 16 mm flange focal distance. This allows Nikon to fit a full-frame FX-format sensor into a very thin form factor.
The Nikon Z7 is designed for large format photography, boasting a 45.7 MP sensor with 493 AF points. It has an expanded ISO range of 64 to 25,600, and can take burst shots of up to 9 frames per second.

The Nikon Z6, on the other hand, is designed for high-speed and/or low-light photography. It has a 24.5 MP sensor with just 273 AF points, but a wider ISO range of 100 to 51,200. It can take burst shots of up to 12 frames per second.
Both cameras will support all existing F-mount lenses, using the new Nikon FTZ mount adaptor, with full capabilities intact. FTZ, incidentally, stands for F To Z or F-mount To Z-mount.
These new Nikon full-frame mirrorless cameras also introduce new in-body 5-axis image stabilisation, whose performance Nikon says is equivalent to 5 stops of shutter speed.
They also now support full-frame recording of 4K video at 30 frames per second, and 1080p videos at up to 120 frames per second. Professional videographers will love its support for an external recorder, and 10-bit N-Log (4:2:2) gamma recording.

The Nikon Z mount will have a new range of NIKKOR Z lenses. They feature a Control Ring, which can be programmed for different purposes, instead of just for manual focus. These are S-Line lenses, which means they are higher-quality lenses with a Nano Crystal Coat and a stepping motor for smoother and quieter operation.

Key Features Of The Sony a7 III
Full-Frame Quality
The newly developed 24.2MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor is paired with a front-end LSI that effectively doubles the readout speed of the image sensor, as well as an updated BIONZ X processing engine that boosts processing speed by approximately 1.8 times compared to the a7 II.
They all work together to allow the a7 III to shoot at faster speeds while enabling an impressive ISO range of 100 – 51200 (expandable to ISO 50 – 204800 for still images) and an overall 1.5-stop improvement in image quality.
The Sony a7 III (Price Check) also features a massive 15-stopdynamic range at low sensitivity settings, support for the 14-bit RAW format even in silent and continuous shooting modes, and is equipped with a 5-axis optical image stabilisation system that results in a 5.0 stepshutter speed advantage.
4D FOCUS & Eye AF
The new Sony a7 III (Price Check) has 425 contrast AF points that work with a 693-point focal-plane phase-detection AF system inherited from the Sony α9 model. This AF system covers approximately 93% of the frame.
AF response and tracking has also been greatly improved in the a7 III, with almost 2x the focusing speed in low-light condition and 2x the tracking speed, thanks to the faster image sensor readout.
The Eye AF feature is also available in the a7 III, even in AF-C mode. This is extremely useful for situations where the subject is turning around, looking down or otherwise obstructed. It also works when the a7 III is being used with Sony’s A-mount lenses with an optional LA-EA3 adaptor.
Additional improvements in focusing flexibility include the addition of a multi-selector or ‘joystick’ for moving focusing points quickly, the addition of touch focusing capability, AF availability in Focus Magnifier mode, an ‘AF On’ button and much more.
High Quality 4K Video
The new Sony a7 III (Price Check) offers 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) video recording across the entire full-frame image sensor. The camera uses full pixel readout without pixel binning to collect about 2.4x the amount of data required for 4K movies, and then oversamples it to produce high quality 4K footage with exceptional detail and depth.
An HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) picture profile is available on the a7 III as well, which supports an Instant HDR workflow, allowing HDR (HLG) compatible TV’s to playback beautiful, true-to-life 4K HDR imagery. Further, both S-Log2 and S-Log3 are available for increased colour grading flexibility, as well as Zebra functionality, Gamma Display assist and proxy recording.
The camera can also record Full HD at 120 fps at up to 100 Mbps, allowing footage to be reviewed and eventually edited into 4x or 5x slow motion video files in Full HD resolution with AF tracking.
Higher Speed
The new Sony a7 III (Price Check) is equipped with an updated image processing system that allows it to shoot full resolution images at up to 10 fpsfor up to 177 Standard JPEG images, 89 compressed RAW images or 40 uncompressed RAW images.
This high speed mode is available with either a mechanical shutter or a completely silent shooting mode. The camera can also shoot continuously at up to 8 fps in live view mode with minimal lag in the viewfinder or LCD screen.
Better Battery Life
Battery life has been greatly extended as well – with a CIPA measurement of up to 710 shots per charge. This is courtesy of the Sony Z series battery NP-FZ100 that offers approximately 2.2 times the capacity of the W series battery NP-FW50 used in the a7 II.

Sony today announced the latest addition to its full-frame E-mount lens line-up – the FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS Standard Zoom (model SEL24105G).
The new full-frame lens covers the commonly used 24 to 105mm focal length range. The FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS can be used for versatile shooting including landscapes, portraits, weddings and more. This lens also features fast, precise and quiet autofocus capabilities in both still and video shooting.

High Optical Performance and Outstanding Resolution
The new Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS lens delivers excellent corner-to-corner sharpness throughout the entirety of its zoom range, while also producing beautifully rendered ‘bokeh’ or background defocus at all focal lengths.
This high image quality is made possible thanks to its advanced optical design featuring four aspherical lens elements, two of which are high precision AA (advanced aspherical) lenses. There are also three strategically located ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements that work in combination with the aforementioned aspherical lens elements to minimise chromatic aberration and ensure the ultimate resolution is captured.

Sony today announced an impressive addition to their full-frame mirrorless camera line-up, the a7R III (model ILCE-7RM3).
The new a7R III combines a high-resolution 42.4 MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor with shooting speeds at up to 10 fps with full AF/AE tracking, wide 15-stop dynamic range, high sensitivity with noise reduction of almost a full stop and more.
The Sony a7R III (ILCE-7RM3) Camera
A New Level of Image Quality
The 42.4 MP high-resolution, back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor utilises a gapless on-chip lens design and AR (anti-reflective) coating on the surface of the sensor’s seal glass to dramatically improve light collection efficiency, resulting in high sensitivity with low-noise performance and wide dynamic range.
Sony’s new a7R III also features a new front-end LSI that effectively doubles the readout speed of the image sensor, as well as an updated BIONZ X processing-engine that boosts processing speed by approximately 1.8 times compared to the α7R II. These components work together to allow the camera to shoot at faster speeds while also enabling its ISO range of 100 – 32000 (expandable to ISO 50 – 102400 for still images) and 15-stop dynamic range at low sensitivity settings.
This new full-frame model was built without an optical low pass filter to maximise resolution, while also having the ability to output 14 bit RAW format even when shooting in silent or continuous mode. The camera is equipped with an innovative 5-axis optical image stabilisation system that has been fine-tuned to support its high-resolution shooting capacity, resulting in a 5.5 step shutter speed advantage, the world’s highest compensation performance for an image stabilisation system.
There is also a new low-vibration shutter that reduces vibration and image blur in all modes, including the high speed 10 fps shooting, as well as several advancements in accurate colour reproductions of skin tones.
High-Performance AF and AF/AE Tracking at up to 10 fps
The new a7R III full-frame mirrorless camera is equipped with a refined image processing system that allows it to shoot full 42.4 MP images at up to 10 fps with continuous, accurate AF/AE tracking for up to 76 JPEG / RAW images or 28 uncompressed RAW images.
This high speed 10 fps mode is available with either a mechanical shutter or a completely silent shooting. The camera can also shoot continuously at up to 8 fps in live view mode with minimal lag in the viewfinder or LCD screen.
The upgraded focusing system of the a7R III is comprised of 399 focal-plane phase-detection AF points that cover approximately 68% of the image area in both the horizontal and vertical directions. There is also 425 contrast AF points, an increase of 400 points compared to the α7R II.
This advanced system delivers AF acquisition in about half the time as the α7R II in low-light conditions, with tracking that is approximately 2 times more accurate as well. The acclaimed Eye AF feature is also approximately 2 times more effective, and is available when utilising Sony’s A-mount lenses with an adapter.
High Quality 4K for the Video Professionals

Build, Design and Customisation for Professionals
The Sony a7R III camera is equipped with dual media slots, with support in one slot for UHS-II type SD memory cards. Users have a variety of options for storing their content, including separate JPEG / RAW recording, separate still image / movie recording, relay recording and more. Battery life has been greatly extended with the use of Sony’s Z series battery that have approximately 2.2 times the capacity of the W series battery utilised in the α7R II.
The a7R III features an upgraded high-resolution, high-luminance Quad-VGA OLED Tru-Finder with approximately 3,686K dots. The Tru-Finder, also found in the acclaimed Sony α9 camera, utilises a ZEISS T* Coating to greatly reduce reflections, and has a fluorine coating on the outer lens that repels dirt. It also has a customisable frame rate, with options of either 50 fps or 100 fps.
The LCD screen has been upgraded as well, with a resolution of 1.44M dots and WhiteMagic technology that improves viewing in bright, outdoor conditions.
The new a7R III allows for convenient transfer of files to a smartphone, tablet, computer or FTP server via Wi-Fi, while also including a sync terminal, enabling external flash units and cables to be connected directly for convenient flash sync. Benjamin Lowy is a renown photojournalist who has covered numerous conflicts, from the Iraq war to the wars in Afghanistan and Libya. He has since gone into sports photography, covering the Sochi Winter Olympics, and wildlife photography. He has even gone on the recent American Presidential campaign trail!
Sony flew him all the way from New York to showcase his work, as well as show off the photos he took with the new Sony Alpha 9 (α9) full-frame mirrorless camera. The Sony Alpha 9 (α9) Press Release (Part 1/2)
15 June 2017 – Sony today introduced its new revolutionary digital camera, the α9 (model ILCE-9). The most technologically advanced, innovative digital camera that Sony has ever created, the new α9 (Price Check) offers a level of imaging performance that is simply unmatched by any camera ever created – mirrorless, SLR or otherwise.
Exmor RS CMOS sensor
The new camera offers many impressive capabilities that are simply not possible with a modern digital SLR camera including high-speed, blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 20 fps, 60 AF/AE tracking calculations per second [1], a maximum shutter speed of up to 1/32,000 second and much more.
These are made possible thanks to its 35mm full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor – the world’s first of its kind – which enables data speed processing at up to 20x faster than previous Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras [2]. This unique sensor is paired with a brand new, upgraded BIONZ X processing engine and front-end LSI that maximises overall performance.
This industry-leading speed and innovative silent shooting is combined with a focusing system that features an incredible 693 phase detection AF points. Covering approximately 93% of the frame, the focusing system ensures that even the fastest moving subjects are reliably captured and tracked across the frame.
Dual SD media card slots
The new α9 (Price Check) also features a vibration free, fully electronic, completely silent anti-distortion shutter with absolutely no mechanical mirror or shutter noise, making it an extremely powerful photographic tool for any shooting situation that demands quiet operation.
To ensure maximum usability and reliability, the camera features a new Z battery with approximately 2.2x the capacity of W batteries, as well as dual SD media card slots, including one that supports UHS-II cards. An Ethernet port (wired LAN terminal) is available as well, and there is a wide variety of new settings, controls and customisability options that are essential for working professionals.
A New Standard of Speed and Focusing Accuracy
Critical to the record-breaking speed of the new α9 is the combination of the new stacked 24.2 MP Exmor RS image sensor, new BIONZ X processor and front end LSI.
The immense processing power from these new components allows for faster AF/AE calculation while also reducing EVF display latency. The processor and front end LSI are also responsible for the larger continuous shooting buffer, enabling photographers to shoot at a blazing 20 fps with continuous AF/AE tracking for up to 362 JPEG or 241 RAWimages.
The camera’s innovative AF system tracks complex, erratic motion with higher accuracy than ever before, with the ability to calculate AF/AE at up to 60 times per second, regardless of shutter release and frame capture. Furthermore, when the shutter is released while shooting stills, the electronic viewfinder functions with absolutely no blackout [3], giving the user a seamless live view of their subject at all times.
This feature truly combines all of the benefits of an electronic viewfinder with the immediacy and “in the moment” advantages that not even the finest optical viewfinders can match, and is available in all still image modes [4] including high speed 20 fps continuous shooting.
With 693 focal plane phase detection AF points covering approximately 93% of the frame, the camera ensures improved precision and unfailing focus in scenes where focus might otherwise be difficult to achieve. The Fast Hybrid AF system – pairing the speed and excellent tracking performance of phase detection AF with the precision of contrast AF – achieves approximately 25% faster performance when compared with α7R II, ensuring all fast-moving subjects are captured.
Professional Capabilities in a Compact Body

The α9 (Price Check) features an all-new, high-resolution, high-luminance Quad-VGA OLED Tru-Finder with approximately 3,686k dots for extremely accurate, true-to-life detail reproduction. The new Tru-Finder, which is the highest resolution viewfinder Sony has ever incorporated in an α camera, features an optical design that includes a double-sided aspherical element, helping it to achieve 0.78x magnification and a level of corner to corner sharpness that is simply outstanding.
The EVF also utilises a ZEISS T* Coating to greatly reduce reflections, and has a fluorine coating on the outer lens that repels dirt.
This all adds up to a luminance that is 2x higher than the XGA OLED Tru-Finder from the α7R II, creating a viewfinder image with a brightness level that is nearly identical to the actual scene being framed, ensuring the most natural shooting experience. The frame rate of the Tru-Finder is even customisable, with options to set it for 60 fps or 120 fps to best match the action.

5-axis image stabilisation system
The α9 (Price Check) is equipped with an innovative 5-axis image stabilisation system that provides a shutter speed advantage of 5.0 steps, ensuring the full power of the new sensor can be realised, even in challenging lighting. With a simple half press of the shutter button, the effect of the image stabilisation can be monitored in the viewfinder or on the LCD screen, allowing framing and focus to be accurately checked and continually monitored.
The α9 (Price Check) also offers an Ethernet port (wired LAN terminal), allowing convenient transfer of still image files to a specified FTP server at high speeds, making it an ideal choice for studio photography, high-profile news and sporting events and more. In addition, there is a sync terminal, enabling external flash units and cables to be connected directly for convenient flash sync.
New Features for Fast Operation
Sony’s new α9 (Price Check) has several new and updated focus functions that support faster, easier focusing in a variety of situations. The camera features a multi-selector joystick on the back of the camera, allowing shooters to easily shift focus within the frame by pressing the multi-selector in any direction up, down, left or right when shooting in Zone, Flexible Spot or Expanded Flexible Spot focus area modes. The new model also offers touch focusing on the rear LCD screen for easy selection of, and shifting focus towards a desired focus point or subject.
New for Sony E-mount cameras, the α9 (Price Check) includes the addition of separate drive mode and focus mode dials, plus a new “AF ON” button that can be pressed to activate autofocus directly when shooting still images or movies.

Additional new capabilities include the “AF Area Registration”, which allows frequently used focus areas to be memorised and recalled via custom button assignments. There is also the ability to assign specific settings (exposure, shutter speed, drive mode, etc) to a custom button to be instantly recalled when needed.
The camera can memorise and automatically recall the last focus point used in a vertical or horizontal orientation, instantly switching back to it when that specific orientation is used again. For enhanced customisation, a “My Menu” feature is available, allowing up to 30 menu items to be registered in a custom menu for instant recall when needed.
Double Battery Life, Double Memory
The innovative α9 (Price Check) camera features an all-new Sony battery (model NP-FZ100) with 2.2x the capacity of previous Sony full-frame models, allowing for much longer shooting performance.
Based on extensive customer feedback, the new camera offers two separate media card slots, including one for UHS-II media. The same data can simultaneously be recorded to both cards, or the user can choose to separate RAW / JPEG or still images / movies. Movies can also simultaneously be recorded to two cards for backup and more efficient data management.
High Sensitivity and Wide Dynamic Range
The unique design of the α9 (Price Check) image sensor represents the pinnacle of Sony device technology. The 24.2 MP full-frame stacked CMOS sensor is back-illuminated, allowing it to capture maximum light and produce outstanding, true-to-life image quality. The sensor also enables the diverse ISO range of 100 – 51200, expandable to 50 – 204800 [5] , ensuring optimum image quality with minimum noise at all settings.
The enhanced BIONZ X processor plays a large part in image quality as well, as it helps to minimise noise in the higher sensitivity range while also reducing the need to limit ISO sensitivity in situations where the highest quality image is required.
The new α9 (Price Check) also supports uncompressed 14-bit RAW, ensuring users can get the most out of the wide dynamic range of the sensor.
4K Video Capture
The new α9 (Price Check) is a very capable video camera as it offers 4K (3840x2160p) video recording across the full width of the full-frame image sensor [6]. When shooting in this format, the camera uses full pixel readout without pixel binning to collect 6K of information, oversampling it to produce high quality 4K footage with exceptional detail and depth. Recording is also available in the popular Super 35mm size.
Additionally, the camera can record Full HD at 120 fps at up to 100 Mbps, which allows footage to be reviewed and eventually edited into 4x or 5x slow motion video files in Full HD resolution with AF tracking.

The Fujifilm X-A3 Hands-On Preview
The Fujifilm X-A3 mirrorless camera features a retro design with 3 colour options – silver, brown and pink. With a 3″ touch screen LCD display that tilts 180 degrees, it allows for selfies to be easily taken. But it’s more than just a selfie camera. The X-A3 boasts a new 24 megapixel sensor, and Fujifilm’s proprietary colour reproduction technology.
It also has built-in WiFi connectivity, which allows you to easily connect to wireless printers, like the Fujifilm Instax SHARE printer. Or you can connect your smartphone or tablet to the X-A3 to copy out files, or remotely control it.
The X-A3 has a normal sensitivity range of ISO 200 to ISO 6400, but this can be extended to ISO 100, ISO 12800 and ISO 25600. It also has a short 7 cm minimum focus distance using the XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS II kit lens, which allows for macro photography.
The X-A3 supports 1080p video recording, but this is limited to just 14 minutes. It can record up to 27 minutes of video at the 720p resolution. It comes with a 1260 mAh battery that is good for about 410 photos.
The X-A3 mirrorless camera will retail for RM 2,888 (~US$ 699), including the Fujinon XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS II lens.

On 3 November 2016, Fujifilm officially launched the Fujifilm X-A3 mirrorless camera, as well as their first Wonder Photo Shop here in Malaysia. As the new mirrorless camera is targeted at the selfie-obsessed younger generation, Fujifilm collaborated with Hatta Dolmat, the award-winning Malaysian fashion designer, to showcase the X-A3 camera with his latest creations in a fashion show in Sunway Pyramid.
The Fujifilm X-A3 & Wonder Photo Shop Revealed
The event kicked off with the Managing Director of Fujifilm Malaysia, Mr. Yoshitaka Nakamura, revealing details of the new Fujifilm X-A3 and Wonder Photo Shop. He also revealed the limited-edition Harajuku Kit, and Fujifilm’s brand ambassador for 2016 and 2017 – Malaysian national artistic gymnast Farah Ann Abdul Hadi.

The new Fujifilm X-A3 mirrorless cameras were then revealed by models at a special Hatta Dolmat fashion show. Fujifilm also collaborated with Hatta Dolmat to produce the FUJIFILM X HATTA collection, which comes with an exclusive and limited-edition Hatta Dolmat t-shirt and camera neck strap.

The Fujifilm X-A3 mirrorless camera features a retro design with 3 colour options – silver, brown and pink. With a 3″ touch screen LCD display that tilts 180 degrees, it allows for selfies to be easily taken. But it’s more than just a selfie camera. It boasts a new 24 megapixel sensor, and Fujifilm’s proprietary colour reproduction technology.
It also has built-in WiFi connectivity, which allows you to easily connect to wireless printers, like the Fujifilm Instax SHARE printer. Or you can connect your smartphone or tablet to the X-A3 to copy out files, or remotely control it.

The new Fujifilm X-T2 mirrorless camera houses the latest generation 24.3MP X-Trans CMOS III APS-C sensor with no low-pass filter, boasting the highest performance in the history of X Series. This allows it to produce crisp image resolution comparable to that of cameras equipped with larger sensors and higher pixel counts, all in a more compact and classically-designed body.
The Fujifilm X-T2’s compact and lightweight camera body is also dust-resistant, water-resistant and capable of operating at temperatures as low as -10°C. Its autofocus and electronic viewfinder performance have both been substantially improved, making it more adaptable than ever before at shooting a moving subject under difficult conditions, such as sports or wildlife photography, which had previously been considered difficult with mirrorless cameras.
For the first time in the X Series, the Fujifilm X-T2 supports 4K video recording. The Film Simulation modes, used for still images, can also be applied to video to easily produce premium-quality footage.

On the 18th of August, 2016, Fujifilm revealed two new photographic devices – the Fujifilm X-T2 mirrorless camera, and the Instax SP-2 mobile printer. The launch also kicked off the Fujifilm Shoot.Print.Share Fiesta at the Berjaya Times Square that will run from the 18th until the 21st of August.
In this video, Fujifilm Malaysia’s Senior Marketing Manager, Mr. Kelvin Ooi, highlighted the key features of the new Fujifilm X-T2 mirrorless camera, and the new Instax SP-2 mobile printer.
Fujifilm X-T2 Mirrorless Camera
The Fujifilm X-T2 is a speedy upgrade to the X-T1, which Fujifilm describes as “Creative Perfection” that uses advanced technologies to achieve premium image quality, outstanding operability and beautiful design reminiscent of traditional cameras.
The X-T2 houses the latest generation 24.3MP X-Trans CMOS III APS-C sensor with no low-pass filter, boasting the highest performance in the history of X Series. This allows it to produce crisp image resolution comparable to that of cameras equipped with larger sensors and higher pixel counts, all in a more compact and classically-designed body.
And for the first time, the new Fujifilm X-T2 now supports 4K video recording that can use each available Film Simulation mode, including ACROS, to easily produce premium-quality footage that is as unique as the photographer behind the viewfinder.

11 February 2016 – Sony today introduced the latest addition to their award winning line-up of mirrorless cameras, the α6300. The camera boasts an unrivalled 4D FOCUS™ system that can lock focus on a subject in as little as 0.05 seconds, the world’s fastest AF acquisition time1. Additionally, the α6300 has an incredible 425 phase detection AF points that are densely positioned over the entire image area – the world’s highest number of AF points on any interchangeable lens camera2, and can shoot images at up to 11 frames per second with continuous autofocus and exposure tracking.
The impressive new mirrorless model also has the ability to support full live-view continuous shooting on the Tru-Finder™ or LCD screen at up to 8 frames per second, ultimately producing a real-time shooting experience that combines all the benefits of an electronic viewfinder with the immediacy of a through-the-lens optical viewfinder.
The versatile α6300 camera is equipped with a newly developed 24.2 MP[1] APS-C sized Exmor CMOS sensor that works together with a BIONZ X image processing engine to produce outstanding image quality throughout the entire ISO sensitivity range ISO 100 – 51200[2].
The new α6300 can also shoot and record high resolution 4K video with full pixel readout and no pixel binning in the popular Super 35mm format.
Unrivalled AF Performance
Sony’s new α6300 camera builds upon the acclaimed 4D FOCUS performance of the α6000 model, utilising a Fast Hybrid AF system that combines high-speed phase detection AF with extremely accurate contrast AF and allows it to capture and lock on to moving subjects in as little as 0.05 seconds1. The camera’s High-density Tracking AF technology positions 425 phase detection AF points over nearly the entire field of view, allowing it to accurately focus throughout a wide area – even on small, fast objects that other cameras would fail to recognise.
In addition to the extensive AF coverage, the α6300 debuts a new high-density tracking AF technology that significantly improves subject detection and tracking performance. This new technology can quickly activate a large number of AF points surrounding a subject – approximately 7.5 times more density than the α6000 – and intelligently adjust them in accordance with the subject’s motion. This is a particularly powerful feature when used with high-speed 11 fps continuous shooting or the new 8 fps continuous live-view mode, which provides 100% accurate framing for fast moving subjects on the LCD screen or viewfinder.
Of note is the fact that the camera’s 425 phase detection AF points, enhanced tracking and focus accuracy are all available on the α6300 when using A-mount lenses[3] with a mount adaptor like the Sony LA-EA3. This is a first for Sony E-mount interchangeable lens cameras with an APS-C sized sensor, as the only other cameras to feature this capability are the full-frame α7R II and α7 II models.
Other enhancements to the α6300 include silent shooting functionality, the ability to use AF in focus magnifier mode, expanded flexible spot AF, Eye AF in AF-C mode and more.
Powerful 24.2 MP Exmor CMOS Sensor and BIONZ X Processor
In order to maximise efficiency and overall camera performance, the α6300 features a new 24.2 MP sensor that is an ideal match for its BIONZ X image processing engine.
The new image sensor employs copper wiring in its structure, which improves light collection efficiency and significantly accelerates readout speed. The BIONZ X processor features an upgraded image processing algorithm designed to maximise the sensor’s overall capabilities. Together, the two key components work together to produce images with low noise and exceptional resolution in sensitivity settings up to ISO 512003, in particular in the mid-to-high sensitivity range.
Ultimate 4K Resolution and Other Professional Video Capabilities
In another first for non-full-frame Sony interchangeable lens cameras, the new α6300 offers internal 4K movie recording in Super 35mm format. When shooting in 4K, the camera uses full pixel readout without pixel binning to collect 20 megapixels of information – approximately 2.4x[4] (6K equivalent) as many pixels as 4K UHD and then oversamples the information to produce high quality footage with exceptional detail and depth.
[adrotate banner=”4″]The camera utilises the XAVC S codec[5] during video shooting, which records at a high bit rate of 100 Mbps[7] during 4K recording and 50 Mbps during standard Full HD shooting, ensuring maximum detail and clarity in both video formats. Additionally, the camera will focus approximately twice as fast as its predecessor during movie shooting thanks to its new and improved AF system. AF speed and AF tracking sensitivity are also adjustable for expanded creativity.
Other professional calibre video features include the ability to record Full HD at 120 fps at 100 Mbps[6], another first for α interchangeable lens cameras with APS-C sized sensors. This mode allows footage to be reviewed and eventually edited into 4x or 5x slow motion video files in Full HD[7] (24p or 30p) resolution with AF tracking. The new α6300 also offers S-Log gamma recording[8] for wide dynamic range shooting – approximately 14-stop latitude in S-Log3 gamma setting – and supports S-Gamut for a wider colour space. Both options allow for greater creativity for processing video post-production.
Also included on the new camera is a microphone line input that accepts external microphones and also supports XLR input with Sony’s XLR adapter kit, as well as Gamma Display Assist, a new function that allows users to monitor images or check focus when recording S-Log movies. The new model has enhanced Zebra functionality for greater exposure control. Picture profile settings are available, as well as Time Code / User Bit and much more.
Enhanced Operability and Ergonomics
The α6300 camera is equipped with a high contrast, high-resolution XGA OLED Tru-Finder™ with approximately 2.4 million dots that offers exceptional corner-to-corner visibility. There is also a new mode available for the viewfinder that allows display of images at 120 fps, ensuring that action is displayed smoothly with very few afterimages, making subject tracking through the Tru-Finder™ easier than ever.
Aesthetically, the new α6300 camera features an extremely solid feel in hand thanks to its robust, magnesium alloy design. It can be customised to fit nearly any shooting style or preferences, with 9 customisable buttons that one of 64 different functions can be assigned to. The camera adds a digital level gauge as well as upgraded dust and moisture resistance[9], a reinforced lens mount structure and a new shutter release button and mode dial with improved operability and grip.
The new α6300 camera is Wi-Fi® and NFC compatible and fully functional with Sony’s PlayMemories Mobile™ application available for Android™ and iOS platforms, as well as Sony’s growing range of PlayMemories Camera Apps™, which add a variety of creative capabilities to the camera. It also supports QR code for easy connection to non-NFC smart phones.
The α6300 with SELP1650 lens will be available in Malaysia from March 2016 onwards.
