In their 2017 year-end report, OpenSignal has named YES as the mobile service provider with the fastest overall download speed, and the best 4G LTE signal availability across Malaysia. This is a big win for YES, which was only launched in 2010 as a digital-only mobile service provider.
YES Has Best 4G LTE Speed & Availability
The OpenSignal report was based on more than a billion data points that were crowdsourced from over 75,000 real world smartphone users in Malaysia. This makes it arguably the most accurate and authoritative reports to date. Only YES and Maxis were recognised as leaders by OpenSignal in that report.
According to OpenSignal, YES customers were able to connect to the 4G LTE signal 93.2% of the time – a whopping 13 points ahead of their nearest competitor. The other four competitors did not even break the 75% mark!
Although YES did not win the award for the fastest 4G download speed, they won the award for the overall download speed. With an average download speed of 19.3 Mbps, they are far ahead of their competitors, and the global average of 16.6 Mbps.
The OpenSignal recognition comes after YES bagged the “Most Innovative Voice Service” from the Telecom Asia Awards 2017, for being the first in Malaysia to provide nationwide VoLTE service, and “demonstrating outstanding leadership in 4G LTE technology innovation”.

Live Demonstration Of YES 4G+ (LTE Advanced) Performance
The CEO of YTL Communications, Wing K. Lee, was justly proud of this achievement as YES launched their 4G LTE and VoLTE (Voice over LTE) service nationally just 15 months ago. He pointed out that the YES network now supports 4G+ across the nation.
Also known as LTE Advanced, 4G+ supports Carrier Aggregation (CA), which is the ability to combine multiple carriers or channels for much faster download speeds. He demonstrated that capability live in this video using the Samsung Galaxy Note8.
As you can see, the YES 4G+ network is capable of delivering blistering download speeds of 125 Mbps, thanks to carrier aggregation. This 4G+ capability solidifies the YES network’s claim to be the best 4G network, bar none.
