The Dell Latitude 5520 is a 15.6-inch business laptop powered by the latest 11th Gen Intel Core processor, with a longer battery life.

Dell Latitude 5520 : A Closer Look!

15.6-inch IPS Display

The Dell Latitude 5520 comes with a large 15.6-inch IPS display, with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It does not have touch capability, which is not needed by most business users.

It has a maximum brightness of 250 nits, which is good enough for indoor use. However, you may have issues using it outdoors in bright sunlight.

For companies on a budget, Dell also offers a HD display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, and a lower brightness of 220 nits.

Built-In Privacy Shutter

Our review unit came with a high-resolution 1080p webcam, with an IR emitter and camera for Windows Hello facial authentication.

Dell also offers a cheaper 720p webcam, with and without the IR camera.

Both options come with a built-in privacy shutter – a critical feature for security-conscious business users.

Performance

Our Dell Latitude 5520 is powered by the 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1185G7  processor – a 4-core, 8-thread processor with 12 MB of cache and Iris Xe graphics.

You can also opt for the Core i5-1145G7 or the Core i5-1135G7 – both 4-core, 8-thread processors with Iris Xe graphics.

The processor and its integrated graphics are kept cool by the Dual Opposite Outlet fans, with side venting for improved airflow and cooling performance.

Our unit came with 16 GB of dual-channel DDR4 memory running at 3200 MHz, and a 512 GB Western Digital SN730 NVMe PCIe SSD.

Ports

Despite its large 15.6-inch form factor, the Latitude 5520 is slim at just under 20 mm.

Even so, its slightly thicker chassis lets Dell fit in more ports than slimmer designs like the XPS 13.

On the left side, you will find two Thunderbolt 4 (USB 3.2 Gen 2) Type C ports, both of which support PowerDelivery and DisplayPort output.

The Latitude 5520 is charged using a USB Type C cable, so it must be plugged into one of these two USB Type C ports.

There is a large row of cooling vents, and a slot for the optional Smart Card reader.

On the right side, you will find a microSD card reader, a 3.5 mm microphone and headphone combo port, with two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A ports.

And next to them are a full-sized HDMI 2.0 port, an RJ-45 LAN port, and a wedge security lock.

Keyboard + Touchpad

The Dell Latitude 5520 has a full-sized backlit keyboard, with a numeric keypad.

Business users will love the numeric keypad, but it may need some getting used to for those who are migrating from “regular laptops”.

The touchpad is reasonably sized, but offset to the left – something you may need to get used to.

Connectivity

Our Dell Latitude 5520 comes with the Intel AX201 module, which offers Wi-Fi 6 connectivity with 2×2 antennas and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity.

On top of that, it comes with an RJ-45 LAN port built-in, giving you access to the best and fastest possible network connectivity.

Audio

The Dell Latitude 5520 features two front-firing speakers with 2 watts power output, powered by Realtek Waves MaxxAudio Pro.

It also comes with a 3.5 mm microphone / headphone combo jack, and dual microphone array.

Dell Latitude 5520 : Performance

Our Dell Latitude 5520 is powered by the 28 watt Intel Core i7-1185G7 processor, with 4 cores and 8 threads, and Iris Xe Graphics with 96 Execution Units.

This processor has 12 MB of L3 cache, a 3.0 GHz base frequency that ramps up to 4.8 GHz during intensive tasks.

Our review sample came with 16 GB of DDR4-3200 memory – in dual memory channels, of course, and a 512 GB Western Digital SN730 SSD.

Work Performance : PCMark 10

The Intel Core i7-1185G7 is a 28 watt processor that can be configured to run at a lower TDP of 12 watt – to improve battery life and reduce thermal output.

Dell left it at the full 28 watt TDP for maximum performance, so it delivered PCMark 10 scores in excess of 4800.

This makes the Dell Latitude 5520 about 15% faster than the HUAWEI MateBook X Pro, which uses the Intel Core i7-10510U 25W processor, and 25% faster than the XPS 13, which uses a down-clocked Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor at 15 W.

Gaming Performance : 3DMark Time Spy

The Dell Latitude 5520 is not meant to be a gaming system, but it has surprisingly decent gaming chops.

The Intel Core i7-1185G7 comes with integrated Iris Xe Graphics, with 96 execution units and maximum clock speed of 1.35 GHz.

That gave it a 3DMark Time Spy score just shy of 1190. That makes it about as fast as the NVIDIA GeForce MX350, and a little faster than the Radeon RX Vega 5 integrated graphics used in Ryzen 4000 Mobile processors.

Battery Life : YouTube + Modern Office

Our Dell Latitude 5520 came with a 4-cell lithium-ion battery, that has a rated capacity of 63 Whr.

To test its battery life, we locked the brightness at 50% – higher than the average of 40% – to see how it performs in these worst-case scenarios :

YouTube Streaming

The Dell Latitude 5520 lasted 8 hours 18 minutes streaming YouTube videos in the theatre mode using Wi-Fi, before its battery dropped to 10%.

PCMark 10 : Modern Office

The Dell Latitude 5520 lasted a phenomenal 11 hours before it powered off while running the Modern Office benchmark!

Battery Recharging Speed

Its 45 watt compact fast charger supports ExpressCharge Boost, which lets it deliver up to 35% charge in about 20 minutes, or up to 80% charge in an hour.

In our test, its fast charger took 29 minutes to charge from 10% to 35%, and took about 82 minutes to hit 80%. For a full charge to 100%, it took 142 minutes.

Here are our recorded recharging time from 10% :

  • 16% – 6 minutes 36 seconds
  • 22% – 13 minutes 38 seconds
  • 25% – 17 minutes 25 seconds
  • 31% – 23 minutes 53 seconds
  • 35% – 29 minutes 15 seconds
  • 40% – 35 minutes 12 seconds
  • 45% – 41 minutes 19 seconds
  • 51% – 48 minutes 18 seconds
  • 60% – 59 minutes 34 seconds
  • 66% – 65 minutes 22 seconds
  • 71% – 71 minutes 19 seconds
  • 76% – 77 minutes 19 seconds
  • 81% – 83 minutes 14 seconds
  • 90% – 95 minutes 16 seconds
  • 95% – 107 minutes 18 seconds
  • 100% – 142 minutes 10 seconds

This gives it a battery life : recharging time ratio of 3.5 : 1 for video streaming, and 4.7 : 1 for office work.

As a general rule of thumb, you will need to recharge its battery about 17 minutes for every hour of battery life.

 

Dell Latitude 5520 : Verdict

The Dell Latitude 5520 is not a sleek ultralight laptop like the XPS 13, it is a large, powerful business laptop.

Its large 15.6-inch display makes it a great desktop replacement, and yet is surprisingly thin and light – it is less than 2 cm thick, and weighs only 1.6 kg.

We strongly recommend the Full HD IPS panel, over the low-resolution HD TN panel option, which would look blurry / blocky on such a large display.

Built around the latest 11th Gen Intel Core processor, with integrated Iris Xe Graphics, it offers more than enough processing power for business users for many years to come.

 

Business users will appreciate the availability of at least two USB-C and two USB-A ports, as well as an actual RJ-45 LAN port and a HDMI 2.0 port too!

If you input a lot of numbers, you will also appreciate the keyboard which comes with a numeric keypad, which is not available in most consumer laptops.

On top of that, the Latitude 5520 comes with a built-in physical shutter for the webcam – a must-have for security conscious users!

If you are a road warrior, we definitely recommend getting the 4-cell battery for extended battery life, which should last you about 11 hours!

All-in-all, this is a solid, no-nonsense business laptop that lets you get work done as quickly and efficiently as possible, no matter whether you are working from home, or on the road.

First, let’s start with this official HUAWEI promotional video that showcases the key features of the new 2021 MateBook laptops!

It consists of not just the two MateBook D 15 variants, but also the MateBook D 14, the MateBook 14 and the MateBook X Pro!

In their 2021 refresh, HUAWEI is offering the MateBook D 15 in two variants – the 11th Gen Edition, and the 10th Gen Edition.

As you can pretty much surmise, they are basically the same laptop, just powered by either the 11th Gen Core i5 processor, or the older 10th Gen Core i5 processor.

2021 HUAWEI MateBook D 15 Laptops : Key Features

Let’s take a look at their key features…

15.6-inch FullView Display

The 2021 HUAWEI MateBook D 15 comes with a large 15.6-inch FullView Display, with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

This is not a particularly bright display, with a maximum brightness of just 250 nits; and it only has a colour gamut of 45% NTSC.

But it is large, with narrow bezels that give it an 87% screen-to-body ratio – hence the name, FullView Display.

Performance

HUAWEI offers two variants, with different CPU + GPU options :

  • 11th Gen Edition : Intel Core i5-1135G7 with Intel Xe Graphics
  • 10th Gen Edition : Intel Core i5-10210U with NVIDIA GeForce MX250

They both come with fast DDR4 memory, and a fast PCIe NVMe SSD with 512 GB of storage.

Battery + Charging

All that is powered by a decent 42 Whr battery, paired with a compact 65 watt USB Type C fast charger.

The charger can be used to charge other USB Type C devices, and supports HUAWEI SuperCharge for certain HUAWEI smartphones.

Connectivity

The 11th Gen Edition supports faster Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, while the 10th Gen Edition supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity.

Ports

On the left side, you will find a single USB Type C port, with a USB 3.2 Gen1 Type A port and a HDMI 1.4b port.

In case you are wondering, the HDMI 1.4b port can handle up to 4K displays, but only at up to 24 fps. To display at 4K @ 50 fps / 60 fps, you need HDMI 2.0.

On the right side, you will find a 3.5 mm audio port, as well as two USB 2.0 Type A ports.

We have to wonder though – why stick with super-old USB 2.0, instead of the much faster USB 3.0 ports?

Keyboard + Touchpad

The 2021 MateBook D 15 comes with a full-sized, ten-keyless keyboard, and a large touchpad.

Pop-Up Camera

Like the MateBook X Pro we reviewed, the 2021 MateBook D 15 comes with a pop-up camera, hidden under a special camera key on the keyboard.

It pops up when you press on it, and pressing it again hides it. This is a great security measure because the camera is physically blocked until you actually need to use it – no hacker will be able to surreptitiously use it to take your photos or videos!

There is only one problem with such a design – it takes photos and videos at an unflattering upward angle. You will also always appear to look upwards on video conferences, and videos that you record.

HUAWEI Share Multi-Screen Collaboration

The 2021 MateBook D 15 supports HUAWEI Share for multi-screen collaboration.

It basically lets you connect your smartphone, and use it directly on the MateBook D 15!

You can control the apps and files on your phone directly on the laptop, even drag and drop files!

The only downside? It is limited to HUAWEI and HONOR smartphones with NFC.

HUAWEI MeeTime

The 2021 MateBook D 15 also supports HUAWEI MeeTime, which is their version of Apple FaceTime – a free, proprietary video call service.

It offers some advantages over its competitors – FaceTime, WhatsApp, etc. but can only be used by HUAWEI devices.

Dell G5 15 5500 : Hands-On Experience!

The Dell G5 15 5500 is designed to offer RTX gaming, at an affordable price point. So the first thing you will notice its thick plastic chassis and heft.

This is no thin and light laptop, not at 31 mm thick and a weight of 2.65 kg… and that’s not even counting the large and heavy 240 watt charger!

Performance

Our review model was powered by the Intel Core i7-10750H, a 6-core, 12-thread processor with a clock speed that goes up to 5 GHz.

It’s paired with 16 GB of DDR4 memory, and the the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, with 6 GB of GDDR6 memory. More than powerful enough to handle any game you throw at it.

144 Hz Display

The Dell G5 15 5500 comes with a 15.6-inch TN display with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and a 144 Hz refresh rate.

Thankfully, it’s paired with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 graphics, which should have no problem driving the high refresh rate for most games.

Storage

The Dell G5 15 5500 is spacious enough to support both a M.2 socket (for a PCIe SSD), as well as a 2.5-inch drive bay (for a hard disk drive).

Our review sample came with the 512 GB PCIe M.2 SSD from SK hynix. Dell also offers a 512 GB Intel Optane storage option in some countries.

This is more than enough storage for a gaming laptop, but if you need more, there is a 1 TB SSD option, as well as a 2 TB hard disk drive option.

Dell G5 15 5500 : A Closer Look!

Available Ports

One advantage of not going thin and light is the additional ports. On the left side, you will find these ports (from left to right) :

  • its barrel power port,
  • a Mini DisplayPort 1.4b port,
  • a HDMI 2.0 port,
  • a USB 3.2 Gen 1 PowerShare port,
  • an RJ45 LAN port, and
  • a Thunderbolt 3 (USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C) port.

On the right side, you will find the following (from left to right) :

  • an SD card reader, which supports SD, SDHX and SDXC cards,
  • a 3.5 mm earphone + microphone jack,
  • two USB 2.0 Type A ports, and
  • a wedge-shaped security lock slot

Keyboard + Touchpad

Thanks to its larger form factor, Dell could fit a full keyboard with a numeric keypad, and a horizontal key pitch of 18.7 mm.

The keyboard is backlit in blue by default, with WASD key highlights. But it can be programmed to support any RGB combination, in up to 4 zones.

It has a pretty small touchpad – just 105 x 65 mm, and it’s offset to the left, which makes it a little awkward to use, unless you are left-handed.

But this isn’t a big problem. This is a gaming laptop, and you will definitely be using a mouse.

RGB Lighting

Complementing the RGB keyboard lighting is an RGB LED light strip along the front edge. This is arguably the Dell team’s only concession towards pointless gaming bling.

Some gamers will argue that it will give a more immersive gaming feel. Whatever rocks your boat, my friend.

Fingerprint Sensor

Dell offers an optional fingerprint sensor integrated directly into the power button, right above the keyboard. There is no IR camera option for face recognition.

We highly recommend adding this feature, as it allows for convenient logging in and greater security especially in public – there’s no need to type in your password.

Webcam + Microphones

The Dell G5 15 5500 comes with a basic webcam, capable of recording 720p video. As well as two microphones – one on each side of the webcam.

This is hardly the ideal setup for video streaming, but it is perfectly adequate for gamers who just need to use it for video chats.

Note that it doesn’t come with a privacy cover, only a status light to let you know when the webcam is activated.

Speakers

The Dell G5 15 5500 comes with two side-firing speakers with a 2 watt output.

Powered by the Realtek ALC3254 with an integrated amplifier, they are loud and offer pretty decent sound quality.

Killer Connectivity

Our premium model comes with a Killer E2500 Gigabit LAN connectivity. Otherwise, you will receive Realtek Gigabit LAN, which isn’t bad at all.

An important criteria that many potential buyers forget to check for in a gaming laptop is “how hot does it get?

What’s the use of buying a powerful gaming laptop if it literally burns your hands while you game?

Take a look at the surface temperatures of the Dell G5 15 5500, with an ambient temperature of 29.8°C.

As you can see, the G5 15 5500 can get pretty toasty, with the temperature of the keyboard reaching a peak of just under 52°C.

On the underside, it peached a peak of 54.3°C in the middle. It is definitely not advisable to game with it on your lap!

We highly recommend you pair the Dell G5 15 5500 with a good laptop cooler, or play in an air-conditioned room. That will greatly reduce its contact temperature, and allow for hours of comfortable gaming.

Dell G5 15 5500 : Performance

Our Dell G5 15 5500 is the top-of-the-line model, powered by the 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10750H.

This is high-powered 45 watt processor with 6 cores and 12 threads, and a 2.6 GHz clock speed that ramps up to 5 GHz during intensive tasks.

The processor has Intel UHD Graphics built-in, but switches to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (with 6 GB of GDDR6 memory) for gaming and more strenuous graphics work.

Our review sample came with 16 GB of DDR4-2933 memory, and a 512 GB SK hynix PCIe SSD. Keeping all that powered is a large 68 Whr lithium-ion battery.

Work Performance : PCMark 10

The Intel Core i7-10750H is about 13% faster than the Intel Core i7-10510U, which is a 25 watt processor, with 4-cores and 8-threads.

It is, frankly, overkill for basic work applications, but will be very helpful in tackling compute-intensive tasks, like rendering videos.

Gaming Performance : 3DMark Time Spy

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 offers 6X more graphics performance than entry-level graphics like the GeForce MX250.

It is roughly between the performance of the desktop Radeon RX 5500 XT, and the desktop GeForce RTX 2060.

That means it will not only easily handle games at the display’s native 1080p resolution, it can deliver higher frame rates to take advantage of the higher Hz refresh rates it supports.

Gaming Performance : 3DMark Time Spy Extreme

We also ran a Time Spy Extreme test for those who are thinking of hooking up this laptop to an external display.

Performing between the desktop Radeon RX 5500 XT, and the desktop GeForce RTX 2060, it can handle 1440p gaming, but at roughly half the frame rate.

Gaming Performance : Strange Brigade @ 1080p

Strange Brigade is a third-person shooter game released in August 2018. We tested it at 1080p using the Vulkan API at Ultra High settings.

As you can see, the Dell G5 15 5500 has no problem exceeding 144 fps at times, with an average frame rate of 101 fps.

Gaming Performance : The Division 2 @ 1080p

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is a newer third-person shooter game released in March 2019, with much higher graphics requirements.

Even at the Extreme graphics settings, Dell G5 15 5500 was able to deliver an average frame rate of 59 fps.

It was head-to-head with the desktop Radeon RX 5500 XT, and just 6% slower than the desktop GeForce RTX 2060.

Battery Life : Modern Office + Gaming

We locked the display’s brightness at 50%, and ran PCMark 10’s Modern Office and Gaming tests until it powered off.

The Dell G5 15 5500 lasted about 5.5 hours running Modern Office applications, but only about 77 minutes while gaming.

You can only game on-the-go for a short time. Realistically, it should be plugged in when you game.

Battery : Recharging Speed

Dell quotes a 4 hour recharging time using the massive 240 watt charger, when the laptop is completely powered off.

We are glad to report that its real-world recharging speed is much, MUCH faster. To test it in a real world setting, we started charging at 10% with the display brightness set to 50% :

  • 25% : 21.5 minutes
  • 33% : 26.5 minutes
  • 40% : 35 minutes
  • 50% : 46 minutes
  • 60% : 57.5 minutes
  • 75% : 75 minutes
  • 90% : 91.5 minutes
  • 100% : 148 minutes

It charges really fast to about 90%, taking only just over 1.5 hours. However, the last 10% took much longer – an addition 56.5 minutes!

This gives it a battery life : recharging time ratio of 2.3:1 for office work. As a rule of thumb, you will need to recharge its battery about 26.5 minutes for every hour of battery life.

 

Dell G5 15 5500 : Verdict + Award

The Dell G5 15 5500 does a good job of focusing on what’s important for gamers, wasting little on pointless aesthetic bling.

Its powerful 45-watt Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 graphics will have no problem driving its Full HD display beyond 60 Hz, no matter what game you play.

It also comes with fast networking capabilities – Killer E2500 offering Gigabit LAN, and Killer AX1650i offering Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity.

And we love its large number of ports – three USB Type A ports, one USB Type C port, as well as an SD card reader and both HDMI and miniDP ports.

Powering all that is a large 68 Wh battery, but here’s a reality check – you can’t really game on-the-go for more than an hour or so. All that performance comes at a price – battery life.

Realistically, the Dell G5 15 5500 should be plugged into a wall socket whenever you game.

It is also a chunky and heavy laptop, no thanks to its large battery and the much higher cooling requirements for its powerful components.

But if all you want is an affordable gaming laptop that offers powerful gaming performance and a 144 Hz display, it’s hard to beat what Dell G5 15 5500 offers.

The 2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) is a compact, premium ultra-light laptop, that packs the very best that HUAWEI has to offer.

Display

Despite its larger 13.9-inch display – the 2020 MateBook X Pro is slightly smaller than the 13-inch MacBook Pro, thanks to its narrow bezels which gives it an incredible 91% screen-to-body ratio.

In addition, this is a 10-point touchscreen display, with a higher resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels, and 100% sRGB colour gamut.

The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, and an anti-fingerprint coating – helping to keep it scratch-free and smudge-free.

Build Quality

Thanks to its CNC-machined metal unibody, it is only 14.6 mm thick and weighs just 1.33 kg – making it thinner and lighter than the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

HUAWEI also gave it a sandblasted finish for that premium look and feel. We are also glad to note that the finish is smear-resistant.

Keyboard + Touchpad

The 2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) comes with a full-size keyboard with back-lit chiclet keys that are 16 mm in size.

Its multi-touch touchpad is large for a Windows 10 laptop, measuring 12 cm x 7.7 cm (4.7″ x 3″) – almost as large as the Force Touch trackpad on the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Naturally, it doesn’t have a Touch Bar and that’s just fine because it gets hot at the strip above the keyboard. Precisely where the Touch Bar is on the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and precisely why that’s such a stupid idea.

2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro : A Closer Look!

Available Ports

Like all ultra-thin laptops, the 2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) lacks ports. On the left side, you will find a 3.5 mm audio jack, and two USB Type C ports.

The USB Type C port with the charging icon is a USB 3.1 port with a maximum power output of 10 watts. The other USB Type C port has a higher power output of 15 watts.

They both support 40 Mbps transfer rates, and DisplayPort output, and double as the MateBook X Pro’s charging port.

On the right side, you will find a single USB 3.0 Type A port. It would have been nice if HUAWEI added a third USB Type C port here, but we cannot underscore how important it is to have this Type A port.

Many of us still have many USB Type A devices – thumb drives, portable drives, mouse, etc. so having even a single USB Type A port would let you use them without resorting to a dongle.

Dongle

That brings us to the next point – . The lack of ports on ultra-light laptops virtually require you to purchase a USB Type C dongle.

Fortunately, HUAWEI includes their MateDock 2 dongle with the 2020 MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK), which offers these ports :

  • USB Type A : supports USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 drives
  • USB Type C : supports USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 drives
  • HDMI 2.0 : supports video resolution up to 3840 x 2160 (30 Hz) or 2160 x 1440 (60 Hz)
  • VGA : supports WUXGA resolution up to 1920 x 1200 (60 Hz)

Pop-Up Camera

HUAWEI was able to squeeze in the large 13.9-inch display into a form factor smaller than the 13-inch MacBook Pro because they used extremely thin bezels.

Unfortunately, this meant displacing the camera, which is usually hidden in the top bezel of the display.

They opted to hide the 720p camera and an LED light under a special camera key on the keyboard. It pops-up when you press on it, and pressing it again hides it.

This is a great security measure because the camera is physically blocked until you actually need to use it – no hacker will be able to surreptitiously use it to take your photos or videos!

There is only one problem with such a design – it takes photos and videos at an unflattering upward angle. You will also always appear to look upwards on video conferences, and videos that you record.

Fingerprint Sensor

It may not seem obvious, but the 2020 MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) comes with a Goodix fingerprint sensor built into the Power button, located on the upper right edge of the keyboard.

This is a useful feature for those on-the-go, because it lets you login without keying your password in public.

Quad Speakers + Microphones

The 2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) comes with four speakers offering both tweeters for clear treble, and woofers for deep, resonant bass.

It also comes with quad microphones, which not only offer 360° sound reception up to 4 meters away, but also noise cancelling capabilities.

HUAWEI Share Multi-Screen Collaboration

The 2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) supports HUAWEI Share for multi-screen collaboration.

It basically lets you connect your smartphone, and use it directly on the MateBook X Pro!

You can control the apps and files on your phone directly on the laptop, even drag and drop files!

The only downside? It is limited to HUAWEI and HONOR smartphones with NFC.

HUAWEI MeeTime

The 2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) also supports HUAWEI MeeTime, which is their version of Apple FaceTime – a free, proprietary video call service.

It offers some advantages over its competitors – FaceTime, WhatsApp, etc. but can only be used by HUAWEI devices.

2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro : Performance

Our 2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) came powered by the 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10510U processor, which is a 4-core, 8-thread processor with a 1.8 GHz clock speed that ramps up to 4.9 GHz during intensive tasks.

The processor has Intel UHD Graphics built-in, but can switch to the NVIDIA GeForce MX250 graphics (with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory) for more strenuous graphics demands.

Our unit came with 16 GB of LPDDR3 memory, and a 1 TB Samsung PCIe SSD. Keeping all that powered is a large 56 Whr lithium-ion polymer battery.

Work Performance : PCMark 10

The Intel Core i7-10510U processor was powerful, delivering high scores in PCMark 10.

It is, frankly, overkill for basic work applications, but will be very helpful in tackling compute-intensive tasks, like rendering videos.

Gaming Performance : 3DMark Time Spy

The NVIDIA GeForce MX250 is entry-level mobile graphics, and it shows – it’s slightly slower than a desktop GeForce GT 130.

That means it will be good enough for esports gaming, at the lower 1080p resolution with lower quality settings.

Battery Life : YouTube + Modern Office

HUAWEI claimed 13 hours of video playback, albeit with the display set to 150 nits (⅓ of max brightness).

YouTube Screen-On Time

We locked the brightness at 50% and streamed YouTube videos in theatre mode using WiFi.

The 2020 MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) lasted 9 hours 11 minutes before its battery dropped to 10%.

PCMark 10 : Modern Office

With the brightness locked at 50%, we then ran PCMark 10’s Modern Office benchmark until it powered off.

The 2020 MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) lasted 7 hours 40 minutes before its battery dropped to 3%.

Battery : Recharging Speed

Its recharging time was even better, especially up to the 90% point. Here are the times it takes to recharge from 10% :

  • 25% : 12 minutes
  • 30% : 16 minutes
  • 50% : 31 minutes
  • 60% : 39 minutes
  • 75% : 52 minutes
  • 90% : 72 minutes
  • 95% : 84 minutes
  • 100% : 121 minutes

Its 65W fast charger takes about 35 minutes to hit mid-point, but 2 hours 1 minute to fully recharge its battery.

That gives it a battery life : recharging time ratio of 4.6:1 for video streaming, and 3.8:1 for office work.

As a rule of thumb, you will need to recharge its battery about 16 minutes for every hour of battery life.

 

2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro : Verdict + Award

Despite its innocuous looks, the 2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) is truly an ultra-light beast.

It is smaller and lighter than the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and yet boasts a touchscreen display that is larger and offers a higher 3K resolution!

On top of that, it comes with a powerful quad-core 10th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, with NVIDIA GeForce MX250 mobile graphics, 16 GB LPDDR3 memory and a spacious 1TB PCIe SSD.

Its large 56 Whr battery lasts a phenomenal 9 hours 11 minutes in our test, and recharges in just 2 hours. That means you can really be on-the-go all-day with this ultra-light laptop.

That said, 2020 MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) is not a gaming machine. The GeForce MX250 will handle games like Civilizations VI and Dota 2 just fine, but don’t expect it to take on Red Dead Redemption 2!

And if you are expecting more ports, then it’s not for you. You have to learn to live with two USB Type C port – one of which you will need to use to recharge the laptop!

But the good news is unlike most ultra-light laptops, the MateBook X Pro comes with one USB Type A port, and a MateDock 2 dongle. That gives you great flexibility, right out of the box.

Now, the biggest impediment for many people would be its price. Like other premium ultra-light laptops, the 2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) costs a pretty penny.

There are really no two ways about it. It is expensive to make super-thin, ultra-light laptop computers that are this powerful. Especially one with a large, 3K touchscreen.

The truth is – the 2020 MateBook X Pro offers great performance and features in a really light and compact form factor, and it is at least 20% cheaper than a comparable 13-inch MacBook Pro!

For those reasons, we believe the 2020 HUAWEI MateBook X Pro (MY|SG|UK) deserves our Reviewer’s Choice Award. Congratulations, HUAWEI!

Intel Foveros 3D Stacking Technology : A Quick Primer!

The new Intel Lakefield hybrid processors use Foveros 3D stacking technology to create such compact and power-efficient processors.

Here is a quick primer on Intel Foveros, and how it lets Intel stack different components into such a tiny chip!

 

Intel Foveros : What Is It?

Intel Foveros is a 3D stacking technology that basically stacks combines two or more dies into a single package, to offer :

  • Standby power 1/10th of competing designs
  • 50% better graphics performance
  • 40% core area reduction
  • 40% Z height reduction

 

Intel Foveros : 3D Stacking Explained!

Intel Foveros more accurately refers to how they stack the two logic dies, using the Foveros connection.

The Base Die, which consists of logic for audio, USB, USF 3.x and PCI Gen 3 controllers, are manufactured on the Intel P1222 process, which is a 22nm FinFET Low Power process, optimised for low current leakage.

The Compute Die on top has the four Tremont low-power cores, and single Sunny Cove high-performance core, as well as up to 64 Gen11 graphics cores. This die is fabricated on P1274 – their 10 nm process technology.

Intel then stacks up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X memory on top of this Foveros-stacked package using standard Package-on-Package (PoP) stacking technology.

This Intel video shows how they manufacture Foveros packages, and turn them into processors.

 

Intel Foveros : First Used In Intel Lakefield

The first processors to use Foveros is the Intel Lakefield hybrid processors, which stacks two logic dies with two DRAM layers, creating a package that is only 12 cubic mm in volume!

This allows them to create a single-sided compute board that is just 30 x 123 mm in size, with standby power as low as 2.5 mW!

After protracted development, Intel finally announced their first two Lakefield hybrid processors – the Intel Core i5-L 16G7 and Intel Core i3-L 13G4.

They are also officially known as Intel Core processors with Intel Hybrid Technology. Either way, their names are quite a mouthful!

In addition to being the first Intel Core processors using the Foveros 3D stacking technology, they are the first Intel Core processors to :

  • ship with Package-on-Package (PoP) LPDDR4x memory, for reduced board size.
  • feature SoC standby power as low as 2.5 mW – 91% lower than Intel Y-series processors
  • feature native dual internal display pipes to directly support foldable / dual-screen PCs

Level51 Terra 15 | Terra 15 Lite Gaming Laptops

These 15.6-inch ultra-portable gaming laptops pair a 9th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA graphics options with a high refresh rate display.

144 Hz Display

All three models come with a 15.6-inch IPS display, with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It supports a high refresh rate of 144 Hz, with a 100% sRGB colour gamut.

Their website did not mention G-SYNC support, but we reckon their displays should support NVIDIA G-SYNC.

Intel + NVIDIA

All three models are powered by the Intel Core i7-9750H 6-core processor, paired with three NVIDIA graphics options :

Note that these are all high-performance parts, not the lower-powered Max-Q variants.

Cooling Performance

To keep those high-performance components cool while you game, these gaming laptops feature four heat pipes and two high-speed fans, with four exhaust outlets.

Premium Chassis

All three gaming laptops feature an aluminium chassis with orange accents, and they are surprisingly light – just 1.97 kg for the RTX 2060 and GTX 1660 Ti variant, and 2.1 kg for the RTX 2070 model.

They are also pretty thin – the RTX 2060 and GTX 1660 Ti models are just 21.4 mm thick, while the RTX 2070 model is slightly thicker at 24.4 mm.

2020 Dell XPS 13 (9300) Ultra-Light InfinityEdge Laptop!

Dell just upped the ante with their premier ultra-light laptop – the 2020 Dell XPS 13 (9300)!

As before, the new Dell XPS 13 (9300) boasts an ultra-light chassis with machined aluminium, carbon fibre, woven glass fibre and Corning Gorilla Glass protection.

But with the new 9300 model, the Dell XPS 13 offers the latest 10th Gen Intel Core processors, and even narrower bezels, creating a smaller and thinner form factor than before.

The 2020 Dell XPS 13 (9300) now boasts a 13.4-inch display in an 11-inch form factor – fitting neatly on an airplane tray. Yet, it comes with a 17% larger touchpad, and edge-to-edge keyboard with larger key caps.

Its InfinityEdge display supports 100% sRGB and 90% DCI-P3 colour gamut, with optional 4K UHD resolution. In addition, it is now 25% brighter at 500 nits.

It can be configured with up to 16 GB of LPDDR4x memory, and up to 512 GB of PCIe NVMe SSD storage. And it supports up to Wi-Fi6 with its Killer AX1650 Wi-Fi module.

Intel oneAPI Unified Programming Model Overview!

At Supercomputing 2019, Intel unveiled their oneAPI initiative for heterogenous computing, promising to deliver a unified programming experience for developers.

Here is an overview of the Intel oneAPI unified programming model, and what it means for programmers!

 

The Need For Intel oneAPI

The modern computing environment is now a lot less CPU-centric, with the greater adoption of GPUs, FGPAs and custom-built accelerators (like the Alibaba Hanguang 800).

Their different scalar, vector, matrix and spatial architectures require different APIs and code bases, which complicates attempts to utilise a mix of those capabilities.

 

Intel oneAPI For Heterogenous Computing

Intel oneAPI promises to change all that, offering a unified programming model for those different architectures.

It allows developers to create workloads and applications for multiple architectures on their platform of choice, without the need to develop and maintain separate code bases, tools and workflow.

Intel oneAPI comprises of two components – the open industry initiative, and the Intel oneAPI beta toolkit :

oneAPI Initiative

This is a cross-architecture development model based on industry standards, and an open specification, to encourage broader adoption.

Intel oneAPI Beta Toolkit

This beta toolkit offers the Intel oneAPI specification components with direct programming (Data Parallel C++), API-based programming with performance libraries, advanced analysis and debug tools.

Developers can test code and workloads in the Intel DevCloud for oneAPI on multiple Intel architectures.

 

What Processors + Accelerators Are Supported By Intel oneAPI?

The beta Intel oneAPI reference implementation currently supports these Intel platforms :

  • Intel Xeon Scalable processors
  • Intel Core and Atom processors
  • Intel processor graphics (as a proxy for future Intel discrete data centre GPUs)
  • Intel FPGAs (Intel Arria, Stratix)

The oneAPI specification is designed to support a broad range of CPUs and accelerators from multiple vendors. However, it is up to those vendors to create their own oneAPI implementations and optimise them for their own hardware.

 

Are oneAPI Elements Open-Sourced?

Many oneAPI libraries and components are already, or will soon be open sourced.

 

What Companies Are Participating In The oneAPI Initiative?

According to Intel, more than 30 vendors and research organisations support the oneAPI initiative, including CERN openlab, SAP and the University of Cambridge.

Companies that create their own implementation of oneAPI and complete a self-certification process will be allowed to use the oneAPI initiative brand and logo.

The Intel Core Processor Number Guide – What They Mean!

The Intel Core processor number system changes with every generation, including the new 10th Gen Ice Lake and 10th Gen Comet Lake processors!

In this guide, we will share with you exactly what those letters and numbers mean!

10 Generations, 10 Number Systems!

Every Intel Core processor generation varies in how they are numbered. We will go through each generation from the latest 10th Gen Core all the way to the first-generation Core processors.

 

10th Gen Intel Core Processor Number Systems

Even though they are both part of the same 10th Gen Intel Core processor family, the Ice Lake and Comet Lake processors have different processor number systems.

10th Gen Intel Ice Lake Processors

Brand Modifier

This is what most people think of as the performance category.

  • i7 : enthusiast class, with many processing cores
  • i5 : mainstream processors
  • i3 : entry-level processors

Gen Indicator

This is now a 2-digit number 10 for the 10th Generation Intel Core processor.

SKU Numeric Digits

This is what we consumers use as a rough indicator of the processor’s overall performance.

Instead of three digits, it now uses just two digits, but the concept is the same – the higher the number, the better the processor’s performance in general.

For example, the Core i7-1068 is faster than Core i7-1065.

Level of Graphics

Replacing the Product Line Suffix, this gives us a rough indication of the processor graphics’ performance level.

  • G7 : Intel Iris Plus Graphics with 64 Execution Units
  • G4 : Intel Iris Plus Graphics with 48 Execution Units
  • G1 : Intel UHD Graphics with 32 Execution Units

Intel started using this graphics indicator in the 10th Gen Intel Core processor number system, because this will be a major model differentiator.

For example, they announced three Intel Core i5-1035 models, differentiated only by their processor graphics :

  • Intel Core i5-1035G7 : Intel Iris Pro Graphics (64 EUs)
  • Intel Core i5-1035G4 : Intel Iris Pro Graphics (48 EUs)
  • Intel Core i5-1035G1 : Intel UHD Graphics (32 EUs)

  • Intel Deep Learning Boost – a new, dedicated instruction set for hardware acceleration of neural networks, which will boost applications like automatic image enhancements, photo indexing and photorealistic effects.
  • GPU Engine Compute – developers can use the GPU, which provides up to 1 teraflops of compute capability, for high-throughput inference applications like video stylisation, analytics and real-time video resolution upscaling.
  • Intel Gaussian & Neural Accelerator (GNA) – a dedicated hardware engine for background workloads like voice processing and noise suppression at ultra-low power.

Greatly Improved Graphics Capability

Quick Review of L2 Streaming Prefetch

Intel Core processors have a hardware streaming prefetch mechanism that automatically fetches an extra 64-byte cache line whenever the processor requests for a 64-byte cache line. This reduces cache latency by making the next cache line immediately available if the processor requires it as well.

When enabled, the processor will retrieve the currently requested cache line, as well as the subsequent cache line.

When disabled, the processor will only retrieve the currently requested cache line.

In a desktop system, enabling this feature improves performance as there’s a high probability of the processor requiring the next cache line as well as the currently requested cache line. It is therefore recommended that you enable the L2 Streaming Prefetch BIOS feature in a desktop system.

But in a server, the probability of the next cache line being required by the processor is lower than that of a desktop system. The higher cache miss ratio inevitably leads to higher bus utilization, which reduces the processor’s performance.

You will need to evaluate the performance effect of L2 Streaming Prefetch on your server and determine if it should be disabled or enabled for better performance. But servers should generally disable this feature.

 

Details of L2 Streaming Prefetch

L2 Streaming Prefetch is a BIOS feature specific to processors based on the Intel Core microarchitecture.

These processors have a hardware streaming prefetch mechanism that automatically fetches an extra 64-byte cache line whenever the processor requests for a 64-byte cache line. To be more specific, the adjacent cache line prefetch mechanism automatically fetches the adjacent cache line, essentially delivering 128-bytes to the processor, even if the processor does not request for the subsequent cache line.

This reduces cache latency by making the next cache line immediately available if the processor requires it as well. However, this increases bus traffic and can actually reduce performance if the processor does not actually require the second cache line. So, it is a double-edge sword.

When enabled, the processor will retrieve the currently requested cache line, as well as the subsequent cache line.

When disabled, the processor will only retrieve the currently requested cache line.

In a desktop system, enabling this feature improves performance as there’s a high probability of the processor requiring the next cache line as well as the currently requested cache line. It is therefore recommended that you enable the L2 Streaming Prefetch BIOS feature in a desktop system.

But in a server, this feature may actually degrade performance since data requests in servers are of a more random nature. The probability of the next cache line being required by the processor is lower than that of a desktop system.

The higher cache miss ratio inevitably leads to higher bus utilization, no thanks to the fact that the processor prefetches an extra 64-byte cache line everytime it retrieves a single cache line. This increased bus utilitization reduces the processor’s performance.

You will need to evaluate the performance effect of L2 Streaming Prefetch on your server and determine if it should be disabled or enabled for better performance. But servers should generally disable this feature.

Delay Prior To Thermal – The BIOS Optimization Guide

Delay Prior To Thermal

Quick Review

The Delay Prior To Thermal BIOS feature is only valid for newer Intel processors (from the 0.13µ Intel Pentium 4 with 512 KB L2 cache “Prescott” onwards). These processors come with a Thermal Monitor which actually consists of a on-die thermal sensor and a Thermal Control Circuit (TCC).

When the Thermal Monitor is in automatic mode and the thermal sensor detects that the processor has reached its maximum safe operating temperature, it will activate the TCC. The TCC will then modulate the clock cycles by inserting null cycles, typically at a rate of 50-70% of the total number of clock cycles. This results in the processor “resting” 50-70% of the time.

As the die temperature drops, the TCC will gradually reduce the number of null cycles until no more is required to keep the die temperature below the safe point. Then the thermal sensor turns the TCC off. This mechanism allows the processor to dynamically adjust its duty cycles to ensure its die temperature remains within safe limits.

The Delay Prior To Thermal BIOS feature controls the activation of the Thermal Monitor’s automatic mode. It allows you to determine when the Thermal Monitor should be activated in automatic mode after the system boots. For example, with the default value of 16 Minutes, the BIOS activates the Thermal Monitor in automatic mode 16 minutes after the system starts booting up.

Generally, the Thermal Monitor should not be activated immediately on booting as the processor will be under a heavy load during the booting process. This causes a sharp rise in die temperature from its cold state. Because it takes time for the thermal output to radiate from the die to the heat sink, the thermal sensor will register the sudden spike in die temperature and prematurely activate the TCC. This unnecessarily reduces the processor’s performance during the booting up process.

Therefore, to ensure optimal booting performance, the activation of the Thermal Monitor must be delayed for a set period of time.

It is recommended that you set this BIOS feature to the lowest value (in minutes) that exceeds the time it takes to fully boot up your computer. For example, if it takes 5 minutes to fully boot up your system, you should select 8 Minutes.

You should not select a delay value that is unnecessarily long. Without the Thermal Monitor, your processor may heat up to a critical temperature (approximately 135 °C), at which point the thermal sensor shuts down your processor by removing the core voltage within 0.5 seconds.

 

Details

Because the thermal sensor is on-die and placed at the hottest part of the die – near the integer ALU units, it is able to closely monitor the processor’s die temperature.

When the Thermal Monitor is in automatic mode and the thermal sensor detects that the processor has reached its maximum safe operating temperature, it will send a PROCHOT# (Processor Hot) signal which activates the TCC. The TCC will then modulate the clock cycles by inserting null cycles, typically at a rate of 50-70% of the total number of clock cycles. Note that the operating frequency of the processor remains unchanged. The TCC only inserts null cycles which results in the processor “resting” 50-70% of the time.

As the die temperature drops, the TCC will gradually reduce the number of null cycles until no more is required to keep the die temperature below the safe point. Then the thermal sensor stops sending the PROCHOT# signal, thereby turning the TCC off. This mechanism allows the processor to dynamically adjust its duty cycles to ensure its die temperature remains within safe limits.

It allows you to determine when the Thermal Monitor should be activated in automatic mode after the system boots. It also allows the watchdog timer to generate a System Management Interrupt (SMI), thereby presenting the BIOS with an opportunity to enable the Thermal Monitor when running non-ACPI-compliant operating systems.

Generally, the Thermal Monitor should not be activated immediately on booting as the processor will be under a heavy load during the booting process. This causes a sharp rise in die temperature from its cold state. Because it takes time for the thermal output to radiate from the die to the heat sink, the thermal sensor will register the sudden spike in die temperature and prematurely activate the TCC. This unnecessarily reduces the processor’s performance during the booting up process.

Therefore, to ensure optimal booting performance, the activation of the Thermal Monitor must be delayed for a set period of time. This allows the processor to operate at maximum performance without interference from the Thermal Monitor. It also prevents the unnecessary activation of the TCC and the subsequent modulation of processor cycles by allowing the die to stabilize to its true temperature before Thermal Monitor is activated.

It is recommended that you set this BIOS feature to the lowest value (in minutes) that exceeds the time it takes to fully boot up your computer. For example, if it takes 5 minutes to fully boot up your system, you should select 8 Minutes.

You should not select a delay value that is unnecessarily long. Without the Thermal Monitor, your processor may heat up to a critical temperature (approximately 135 °C), at which point the THERMTRIP# signal will be asserted. This shuts down your processor by removing the core voltage within 0.5 seconds. While this measure will most likely save the processor from permanent damage, you will be forced to reset the system before the processor will start working again.

Vanderpool Technology – The BIOS Optimization Guide

Quick Review

This BIOS feature is used to enable or disable the Intel Virtualization Technology (IVT) extension, which is also known by the development code name of Vanderpool. It allows multiple operating systems to run simultaneously on the same computer.

When enabled, the IVT extensions will be enabled, allowing for hardware-assisted virtual machine management.

When disabled, the IVT extensions will be disabled. However, software virtual machine managers like VMware can still be used if virtualization is required.

Whether you use virtual machines or not, there is no disadvantage in keeping this BIOS feature enabled.

We recommend that you keep Vanderpool Technology enabled. It should only be disabled for troubleshooting purposes.

 

Details

Vanderpool is the development code name for the Intel Virtualization Technology (IVT). It is a extension of the Intel x86 architecture that allows multiple operating systems to run simultaneously on the same computer. It does this by creating virtual machines, each running its own x86 operating system.

Although software virtualization through VMware and similar software is possible, they incur significant performance penalties. The IVT extensions allow operating systems that support them to create virtual machines with far less overhead.

Virtualization do more than just allow you to run different operating systems simultaneously. It also isolates the operating systems and applications from hardware resources. Each virtual machine will runs in its own memory space. This improves reliability and reduce damage from software faults or malicious attacks.

The Vanderpool Technology BIOS feature is used to enable or disable the Intel Virtualization Technology (IVT) extensions.

When enabled, the IVT extensions will be enabled, allowing for hardware-assisted virtual machine management.

When disabled, the IVT extensions will be disabled. However, software virtual machine managers like VMware can still be used if virtualization is required.

If you create and run virtual machines, you should keep this BIOS option enabled for much better performance.

If you have never heard of virtualization or virtual machines, you are unlikely to use it. However, there is no disadvantage in keeping this BIOS feature enabled.

We recommend that you keep Vanderpool Technology enabled. It should only be disabled for troubleshooting purposes.

Kuala Lumpur, 16 June 2016Dell today announced the launch of its first purpose-built industrial PC (IPC) products, Embedded Box PC 3000 Series and 5000 Series, aimed at taking the embedded PC market mainstream.

Available in Malaysia starting end-July, the products are fanless, ruggedized and built to provide customers fast time-to-market. With a long history of rugged engineering innovation and extensive experience in OEM Solutions, the products expand Dell’s Internet of Things (IoT) portfolio. Dell will bring the benefits of short lead times, enterprise-class lifecycle, stability, service and support to customers who may be underserved by current embedded solutions.

Embedded computing is now everywhere. According to a Technavio study , the embedded systems market was valued at more than US$11 billion in 2014 and is expected to reach US$23.10 billion in 2019, growing at a CAGR of almost 15 percent. CPU Adjacent Sector Prefetch is a BIOS feature specific to the Intel processors (from Pentium 4 onwards), including Intel Xeon processors.

When enabled, the processor will fetch the cache line containing the currently requested data, and prefetch the following cache line.

When disabled, the processor will only fetch the cache line containing the currently requested data.

In a desktop system, CPU Adjacent Sector Prefetch improves the processor’s performance since there’s a high probability of the processor requiring the next cache line as well. It is recommended that you enable this BIOS feature in a desktop system.

But in a server, this feature may actually degrade performance since data requests in servers are of a more random nature. You will need to evaluate the performance effect of CPU Adjacent Sector Prefetch on your server and determine if it should be disabled or enabled for better performance. But servers should generally disable this feature.

 

Details

CPU Adjacent Sector Prefetch is a BIOS feature specific to the Intel processors (from Pentium 4 onwards), including Intel Xeon processors. When one of these processors receives data from the cache, it can also prefetch the next 64-byte cache line. This may reduce cache latency by making the next cache line immediately available if the processor requires it as well.

When enabled, the processor will fetch the cache line containing the currently requested data, and prefetch the following cache line.

When disabled, the processor will only fetch the cache line containing the currently requested data.

In a desktop system, CPU Adjacent Sector Prefetch improves the processor’s performance since there’s a high probability of the processor requiring the next cache line as well. It is recommended that you enable this BIOS feature in a desktop system.

But in a server, this feature may actually degrade performance since data requests in servers are of a more random nature. The probability of the next cache line being required by the processor is lower than that of a desktop system. If the processor prefetches the second cache line and it is not required by the processor, it is discarded and the processor requests for the data it needs. This incurs a slight penalty in performance.

You will need to evaluate the performance effect of CPU Adjacent Sector Prefetch on your server and determine if it should be disabled or enabled for better performance. But servers should generally disable this feature.
