The 2019 Hotlink System Upgrade

Maxis revealed that the 2019 Hotlink system upgrade will be implemented in two phases. The first phase kicks off today – 22 April 2019.

During this phase, Hotlink users may not be able to perform certain transactions :

top-up accounts
purchase service passes

The good news is – these crucial services are still active during the 2019 Hotlink system upgrade, as long as the account has been topped-up, and passes activated before the system upgrade.

make calls
use mobile Internet
send SMS messages

How To Prepare For The 2019 Hotlink System Upgrade

To ensure you have uninterrupted connectivity, Maxis highly recommends that all Hotlink prepaid users top up their credit or buy passes BEFORE the Hotlink system upgrade begins.

Please remember that the 2019 Hotlink system upgrade will be implemented in two phases. So watch out for the SMS warning, and top-up and purchase your passes before the next phase kicks in.

The New Hotlink Rewards Program

Starting 12 November 2018, Hotlink customers will receive FREE reward points just by logging into their Hotline RED app.

At the beginning of each month, you will start at the Silver level, and just by logging in daily, you will earn 5 reward points.
Once you accumulate 60 points (or purchase a monthly pass), you will be upgraded to the Gold level.
Once you reach the Gold level, you will earn 10 reward points every day you log into the Hotlink RED app.
The collected reward points can be used to redeem a variety of rewards such as discounted deals from popular brands and merchants, Internet passes and more.

Upgrade To A Maxis 4G SIM Card & Win RM 1 Million!

Maxis and Hotlink customers who upgrade their 3G SIM card to a 4G SIM card now be a part of a RM1 million giveaway campaign!

To ensure customers enjoy the best 4G experience on their smartphones, Maxis has introduced the RM1 million 3G SIM Swap campaign, where it will reward a total of RM1 million in cash to Maxis and Hotlink customers who upgrade to a 4G SIM card.

Upgrade To A Maxis 4G SIM Card & Win RM 1 Million!

Beginning 25 April, customers who successfully complete their SIM swap will be automatically eligible to participate in the RM1 million giveaway campaign.

There will be three rounds throughout the campaign. Customers will be eligible to participate in all three rounds, as long as they haven’t won. So, the earlier customers participate, the more opportunity they have to win.

The three rounds will take place on 3 May, 16 May and 21 May 2017 respectively.

Customers can check if they are using an active Maxis 3G or 4G SIM card by dialing *100# or visiting their nearest Maxis Centre or participating dealer.

To participate in the campaign, Maxis / Hotlink customers just need to:

Bring their active 3G SIM card to any Maxis Centre/participating Hotlink dealer to perform the SIM swap
Also bring proof of identity, e.g. their Identify Card or valid Passport, to prove that they are the rightful owner of the SIM card

Once their SIM swap is successfully completed, they will be automatically eligible to participate in the RM1 million giveaway.

20 Maxis Customers Have Won So Far!

To date, Maxis has given away RM450,000 to 20 winners from the first and second rounds. This is the final week of the campaign, so try your luck! The final round of winners will be announced on 21 May 2017.

The PokeMobile Revealed!

These are special Grab cars that have been decked out in Pokémon livery. Each PokeMobile also comes with refreshments, Grab goodie bags, Hotlink PokeChargers and even a PokeMonitor, with Hotlink 4G connectivity.

A total of four PokeMobiles will ply the Klang Valley, shuttling Pokémon GO players to nearby PokeStops, over the first two days. Best of all – IT’S ALL FREE!

To book a PokeMobile for a free ride to the nearest PokeStop, Pokémon GO players have to do is :

Install / upgrade the Grab app (available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store)
Select the PokeMobile button in the Grab app, and wait for your pickup!

If that’s not enough, PokeMobile riders who are also Hotlink customers will receive US$100 worth of PokeCoins via Hotlink Cash Online. This is equivalent to 14,500 PokeCoins! Of course, you can also use those PokeCoins to purchase 145 Pokémon lures, 145 Pokéballs or 96 egg incubators.

Everyone is crazy about Pokémon GO, including Malaysians who have been waiting impatiently for it to be released in Malaysia. They have been disappointed time and time again by rumours that Pokémon GO is going to be launched. Will they be disappointed again?

Grab ‘Em All Faster with Hotlink

This morning, we received a special invitation from Maxis. Oddly enough, it’s for tomorrow morning! Such a short notice is often a sign that something special is coming up. A short notice is often used to prevent leaks – the fewer people know about it, the less likely the information will be leaked.

The invitation was enticingly titled “Grab ‘Em All Faster with Hotlink“, with this accompanying graphic :

There is no doubt that this Maxis event is about Pokémon GO. This has led many to speculate that this is a sign that Pokémon GO is launching in Malaysia tomorrow. Why else would Maxis resort to emailing the media about this event on a Sunday morning?

Pokémon GO Update

Speculation of an impending launch was also based on the major Pokémon GO update that was released just yesterday. That update came with the following changes / improvements :

players can now re-customise their character
Pokémon move sets have been rebalanced
some spawn points have been changed
your favourite Pokémon can be locked to prevent accidental transfers
the footstep tracking feature has been removed, eliminating the 3-step bug
the scan radius has been reduced

The theory is that Niantic will want to fix the major bugs before launching in new regions. The removal of the footstep tracking feature, in particular, is useful in reducing server load. That would be something Niantic would be eager to fix before launching the game in new countries.

Is Pokémon GO Launching In Malaysia Tomorrow?

Unfortunately, we do NOT think Pokémon GO will be launching in Malaysia tomorrow. After carefully reading the Maxis invitation, we highlight two important key points :

The event title – “Grab ‘Em All Faster with Hotlink“
The event is described as “a special preview“

In our humble opinion, Maxis is probably just announcing a future promotion to capitalise on the Pokémon GO craze. Most likely, they will be partnering with Grab to offer free rides for Pokémon GO gamers to Pokestops.

In any case, stay tuned tomorrow morning for our live coverage on the Tech ARP Facebook page.

When Is Pokémon GO Launching In Malaysia?

The urgency of this announcement though is odd. It could mean that a Pokémon GO launch is imminent.

MMO Server Status actually lists Malaysia’s Pokémon GO servers as going live in 25 hours, together with Pokémon GO servers in Israel, China, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela and South Korea.

A cached page also revealed that Grab will offer Hotlink users FREE rides to the nearest Pokestops between 10 AM and 7 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday (August 2 and 3). This is definitely a sign that Pokémon GO is probably launching on Tuesday!
