Maybank: New Secure2u Activations Only On MAE App

Maybank will only allow new Secure2u activations on their MAE app, instead of their Maybank2u app!

 

Maybank : New Secure2u Activations Only On MAE App

From 26 September 2022 onwards, Maybank will only allow new Secure2u activations on their MAE e-wallet app, instead of their Maybank2u banking app.

Secure2u is a mobile app-based authentication method for your banking transactions, which replaces the SMS TAC that is vulnerable to SIM swap attacks.

This change only affects new Secure2u activations. If you have already activated Secure2u on your Maybank2u banking app, then you can continue to use the Maybank2u app to approve your transactions as usual.

Maybank will also move two Amanah Saham National Berhad (ASNB) services from the Maybank2u app to the MAE app permanently, starting 7 October 2022.

  • View own and child’s account balance(s)
  • Make transfers to own account(s) via Favourites

This shifting of features is part of Maybank’s push to “encourage” its customers to switch to their MAE e-wallet app, and it plans to phase out the Maybank2u app eventually.

By moving customers to MAE, Maybank is hoping that they might start using its e-wallet feature, as well as reduce its need to develop and maintain two separate mobile apps.

 

12-Hour Activation Delay For Secure2u In MAE

To further strengthen the appeal of the MAE app, Maybank is going to boost the security of its Secure2u feature.

Starting 8 October 2022, the Secure2u feature in the MAE app will be enhanced with a 12-hour activation period to prevent unauthorised activations.

Those who activate Secure2u in MAE on a new device will need to wait at least 12 hours, before they can begin using the Secure2u feature to authenticate any transaction.

The idea is to give the account owner at least 12 hours to detect any potential fraudulent attempt to activate Secure2u on unauthorised devices.

 

How To Set Up Secure2u In MAE

Setting up Secure2u in the MAE app is straightforward :

  1. Install the MAE app from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or HUAWEI AppGallery.
  2. Launch the MAE app, and tap More.
  3. Tap on Settings at the top of the screen.
  4. Tap on Maybank2u and log into your Maybank account.
  5. Tap the toggle button next to Secure2u to enable it.
  6. Tap on Activate Now.
  7. Key in and confirm your mobile number.
  8. Maybank will send a One-Time Password (OTP) to you via SMS.
  9. Key in the OTP number and confirm your device name to authorise the change.

That’s it! Then you just need to use your MAE app (instead of SMS TAC) to authenticate your future banking transactions on Maybank.

Here is what you need to know about the renewed heat on TikTok!

 

FCC Commissioner Asks Apple + Google To Remove TikTok!

On June 29, 2022, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr publicly called on Apple and Google to remove TikTok from their app stores.

This move came after leaked TikTok audio recordings obtained by Buzzfeed News revealed that ByteDance staff in China (and possibly the Chinese government) retained extensive access to data on US citizens.

In his public letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, the FCC Commissioner asked that TikTok be removed for “its pattern of surreptitious data practices”.

It is clear that TikTok poses an unacceptable national security risk due to its extensive data harvesting being combined with Beijing’s apparently unchecked access to that sensitive data.

But it is also clear that TikTok’s pattern of conduct and misrepresentations regarding the unfettered access that persons in Beijing have to sensitive U.S. user data – just some of which is detailed below – puts it out of compliance  with the policies that both of your companies require every app to adhere to as a condition of remaining available on your app stores.

Therefore, I am requesting that you apply the plain text of your app store policies to TikTok and remove it from your app stores for failure to abide by those terms.

FCC Commissioner Carr also labelled TikTok as a “sophisticated surveillance tool” that is designed to harvest “personal and sensitive data“.

At its core, TikTok functions as a sophisticated surveillance tool that harvests extensive amounts of personal and sensitive data.

Indeed, TikTok collects everything from search and browsing histories to keystroke patterns and biometric identifiers, including faceprints – which researchers have said might be used in unrelated facial recognition technology – and voiceprints.

It collects location data as well as draft messages and metadata, plus it has collected the text, images, and videos that are stored on a device’s clipboard. The list of personal and sensitive data it collects goes on from there.

This should come as no surprise, however. Within its own borders, the PRC has developed some of the most invasive and omnipresent surveillance capabilities in the world to maintain authoritarian control.

Carr ended his letter with an “ultimatum” of sorts – if Apple and Google do not remove TikTok from their app stores, they need to provide “separate responses” to him by July 8, 2022, explaining why TikTok does not contravene their App Store policies.

As of June 30, 2022, TikTok is still available to download in the US app stores of both Apple and Google.

If Apple and Google acts on the FCC Commissioner’s request, TikTok will only be removed from their US app stores. It won’t affect downloads in other countries.

Neither would it prevent users in the US from continuing to use TikTok. They just won’t be able to download it any longer, or update to newer versions.

 

FCC Commissioner Lists History Of TikTok Data Practices!

While the leaked TikTok audio recordings may have precipitated this open letter to Apple and Google, FCC Commissioner Carr pointed to a list of questionable data practices by TikTok in the past.

The list makes for really interesting reading, especially for those who are not up to date on TikTok’s privacy and data security issues :

  • In August 2020, TikTok circumvented a privacy safeguard in Google’s Android operating system to obtain data that allowed it to track users online.
  • In March 2020, researchers discovered that TikTok, through its app in the Apple App Store, was accessing users’ most sensitive data, including passwords, cryptocurrency wallet addresses, and personal messages.
  • In 2021, TikTok agreed to pay $92 million to settle lawsuits alleging that the app “clandestinely vacuumed up and transferred to servers in China (and to other servers accessible from within China) vast quantities of private and personally identifiable user data and content that could be employed to identify, profile, and track the physical and digital location and activities of United States users now and in the future.”
  • In March 2022, a report included current and former TikTok employees stating in interviews that TikTok delegates key decisions to ByteDance officials in Beijing and that an employee was asked to enter sensitive information into a.cn domain, which is the top-level domain operated by the Chinese government’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
  • Earlier, in 2019, TikTok paid $5.7 million to settle Federal Trade Commission allegations that its predecessor app illegally collected personal data on children under the age of 13.
  • India- the world’s largest democracy–has already banned TikTok on national security grounds for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting user data in an unauthorized manner.
  • Multiple U.S. military branches have also banned TikTok from government-issued devices due to national security risks, including the Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps.
  • U.S. government officials have also urged troops and their dependents to erase the app from their personal phones.
  • U.S. national security agencies have similarly banned TikTok from official devices citing national security risks, including the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and the TSA.
  • The RNC and DNC have warned campaigns about using TikTok based on security concerns and the threat of officials in Beijing accessing sensitive data.
  • Citing data security concerns, private U.S. business operations have also banned TikTok from company devices, including Wells Fargo.
  • Once accessed by personnel in Beijing, there is no check on the CCP using the extensive, private, and sensitive data about U.S. users for espionage activities because compliance with the PC’s 2017 National Intelligence law is mandatory in China.

Are MySejahtera 68808 SMS Messages A Scam?!

Are MySejahtera messages sent through the 68808 SMS service really a scam?!

Take a look at the viral claim, and find out what the facts really are!

 

Claim : MySejahtera 68808 SMS Messages Are A Scam!

People are sharing this warning on social media – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, as well as in WhatsApp and Telegram groups :

MySejahtera 通过 68808 发送短信要求用户 重置资料,请不要点击链接,这是钓鱼陷阱 骗局。
请转发广传出去给大家警惕,谢谢。

MySejahtera sending sms through 68808 to ask users to reset, pls do not click link. It’s a scam.

 

MySejahtera 68808 SMS Messages Not Necessarily A Scam!

Many Malaysians are rightfully wary about clicking on links sent by SMS or WhatsApp.

There have been many scams involving fake SMS or WhatsApp messages, which we covered here in Tech ARP :

However, Malaysians are also too gullible, accepting all warnings on WhatsApp as genuine, without first verifying if they are even true.

Here are the reasons why the MySejahtera reset messages delivered by the 68808 SMS service are not necessarily a scam!

Fact #1 : 68808 Is Used By MySejahtera

Despite what people may tell you – 68808 is an official SMS service number used by MySejahtera.

In fact, MySejahtera uses three SMS service numbers to send you notifications (like your vaccination appointments), as well as your password renewal link :

68808
68088
63001

Fact #2 : 68808 Messages Are Generally Legitimate

Despite what is shared on social media, messages sent through 68808 are genuine. What you need to be wary of are SMS messages sent via other numbers.

Take a look at this example of fake news shared on social media, and some websites. It was touted as an example of fake MySejahtera messages sent by 68808.

The truth is “original” message was sent through 63839, which is not a legitimate MySejahtera SMS service. The “fake” message was sent through 68808, which is a legitimate MySejahtera SMS service.

In this misleading example, you can also see a prior SMS message on vehicle servicing in the 63839 channel. Official MySejahtera SMS channels (68808, 68088 and 63001) will only show messages from MySejahtera, not other services.

Note : The links in both messages appear to be genuine, linking to https://mysejahtera.malaysia.gov.my/.

Fact #3 : MySejahtera Sends Reset Links Via SMS

Despite what social media “experts” may tell you – MySejahtera will send password reset links through SMS, as a verification method.

If you are trying to reset your MySejahtera password (because you forgot it), you will be sent an SMS message with a link to https://mysejahtera.malaysia.gov.my/, as the example above shows.

Fact #4 : SMS Messages Can Be Spoofed

That said, SMS messages can be spoofed to appear to come from the three legitimate MySejahtera channels – 68808, 68088 and 63001.

So you should avoid clicking on MySejahtera password reset links, even from legitimate channels, unless you have specifically asked to reset the MySejahtera password.

Fact #5 : MySejahtera Team Clarified This In April

The MySejahtera team actually refuted these false claims in April 2022. Unfortunately, people still continue to share this fake news.

So please help us fight fake news – share this fact check with your family and friends!

 

How To Avoid MySejahtera (Or Other) SMS Scam!

So here is what I recommend when it comes to SMS messages, whether they were sent by MySejahtera, banks, etc. :

  1. Always check to make sure they come from legitimate SMS channels. For MySejahtera, that’s 68808, 68088 and 63001.
  2. If you are not sure about an SMS message from the authorities / banks / telcos, please do not hesitate to call them to verify the authenticity of that message.
  3. Never click on a link to log into a website (like your bank). Always use your banking app, or log in manually using a Internet browser on your computer or phone.
  4. Only click on a link in specific circumstances that do not require a login – for example : to verify your request to reset your MySejahtera password.
  5. Do NOT click on any link to confirm that you are resetting a password, or confirm your new SIM card, unless you just requested to performed those actions.
  6. Before you click on a link, always check the link goes to the official website (like https://mysejahtera.malaysia.gov.my/). Never click on a link that goes to suspicious websites.

I hope this article helps you differentiate between fake claims circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups, and proper cybersecurity measures we should take to prevent being scammed of our hard-earned money!

Google : You Can Use Gmail For FREE With Custom Domain!

Google just changed its mind and will allow you to continue using Gmail for FREE with your own domain!

Here is what you need to know!

 

Earlier : You Must Migrate Free Gmail To Google Workspace Subscription!

Google officially got rid of G Suite, rebranding it as Google Workspace and introducing a cloud-based solution that is more integrated and offers real-time collaboration.

At that time, they still allowed people with free Gmail accounts to continue using them, with custom domains. Like adrian@mywebsite.com, for example.

That changed in January 2022, when Google announced that it “will now transition all remaining users to an upgraded Google Workspace paid subscription based on your usage“.

In other words – you must pay Google if you want to continue using Gmail with a custom domain.

Google gave everyone until May to migrate their emails out of Gmail, or pay to continue using it. Then they delayed it to 1 June to give people more time to decide.

But they met with a lot of anger, and resistance. It was not just a matter of migrating emails from Gmail to a cheaper or even free email service like Zoho.

Many people also use the same Gmail account with a custom domain, to sign in for various services including Google services and Android smartphones. They would have LOST the ability to retrieve or change their password, or even login in certain instances.

 

Now : You Can Use Gmail For FREE With Custom Domain!

Fortunately, Google appeared to have realised that trying to blackmail loyal Gmail users (albeit free users) into boosting their profit margins was not only bad press, it was counterproductive.

For example, how will Google manage purchases people made in the Google Play Store? Will losing data from so many people be worth it?

In the end, Google folded and quietly allowed people to continue using Gmail for free, and with their custom domain to boot!

From now until 27 June 2022, you will have the option of signing up to continue using Gmail for free, with your custom domain.

Just head to your account’s Google Admin Console, and you should see this option pop-up. Just click Confirm for personal use, and you are done!

Not only will you get to continue using Gmail for free, and retain your custom domain, you will also :

  • retain access to free Google Workspace services like Google Drive, Google Meet, Google Search, Google Maps and YouTube
  • keep your purchases in Google Play, and data stored on Google Workspace

However, Google “may” remove business functionality, and will not provide support.

If you had earlier agreed to pay for Google Workspace after getting the migration prompt, but wish to switch to this “non-commercial personal use” option, you need to contact Google Support.

Can’t Book 5-11 Yo Vaccine Appointment? Here’s The Fix!

If you can’t book the vaccine appointment for your 5-11 year-old child, here are the solutions to fix that problem!

 

Many Parents Can’t Book 5-11 Yo Vaccine Appointment!

Many parents are complaining that they are unable to book the vaccine appointment for their 5-11 year-old children!

They received the link in MySejahtera to book their child’s vaccine appointment, but the link does NOT work!

No matter how many times they tap / click on it, nothing happens.

Note : If you did not receive the “Click here to book your dependent’s appointment” link, please wait. The MySejahtera team appears to be releasing that option in batches to reduce load on their servers. Your turn will come shortly.

 

Can’t Book 5-11 Yo Vaccine Appointment? Here’s The Fix!

If you can’t book the vaccine appointment for your 5-11 year-old child, here are the solutions to fix that problem!

Solution #1 : Update MySejahtera

As I mentioned in my earlier guide, the booking system is only available in MySejahtera 1.1.6 and above.

You may see the vaccine booking option appear in an earlier version of MySejahtera, but it will NOT work until you update to version 1.1.6 or later.

So if you have this problem, first go to the Apple App Store / Google Play Store / HUAWEI AppGallery and update to MySejahtera 1.1.6 or later.

If MySejahtera does not update properly in your Android smartphone, please make sure you allow the Files and media permission :

Step 1 : Go to Settings > Apps > MySejahtera > Permissions.

Step 2 : Tap on Files and media under the Denied list.

Step 3 : Tap on Allow all the time.

Solution #2 : Force Close MySejahtera

If you had earlier updated to MySejahtera 1.1.6 (or newer), then you should try restarting MySejahtera by “force closing” it. Not just use the Home button, which only minimises it.

In Android, tap on the App Overview button, and swipe up / press on the X button to “force close” it.

For iOS devices with a Home button, double tap on the Home button, and swipe up to “force close” it.

For iOS devices without a Home button, swipe up and hold, and then swipe up on MySejahtera to “force close” it.

Then reopen MySejahtera, and see if the booking system now works.

Solution #3 : Clear MySejahtera App Cache

If the two solutions above still does not work, you can try to clear the App Cache if you are using an Android device.

Step 1 : Go to Settings > Apps > MySejahtera

Step 2 : Scroll down and tap on the Storage option.

Step 3 : Tap on the Clear cache option at the bottom.

Step 4 : Log into MySejahtera and see if the booking system works!

Solution #4 : Delete MySejahtera App Data

If Solution #3 did not solve your problem, you can repeat the steps above, and tap on Clear data instead of just tapping on Clear cache.

But be warned that this step will wipe out your login data, so you will need to log into MySejahtera after this. It will be similar to deleting and reinstalling MySejahtera.

Why Enable MySJ Trace In MySejahtera?

MySJ Trace is a new MySejahtera feature, which allows for more accurate contact tracing, and removes the need to manually check out from locations.

Once enabled, your phone will use Bluetooth to communicate with other phones that have MySJ Trace enabled, to determine the distance and length of contact. This eliminates the need to manually check-out.

The proximity data it collects allows Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) to accurately determine if you are a close contact of a COVID-19 positive person.

Obviously, this feature only works if everyone has MySJ Trace enabled, so please enable it!

Why Disable MySJ Trace In MySejahtera?

Some people are worried that the government is using MySJ Trace to track their movements, but that’s really not possible.

Others are worried about the battery life that the persistent Bluetooth connection will consume. As it uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, the power consumption is very low.

Even so, the battery consumption is a valid concern for some users, especially those who are using smartphones with very small or ageing batteries.

However, I highly recommend you try MySJ Trace before turning it off and on like that. From my personal experience, it really uses very little power.

How To Enable + Disable MySJ Trace In MySejahtera!

I created this video to show you how to enable and disable MySJ Trace in MySejahtera.

Note : This is the extended version, which includes the method to permanently disable MySJ Trace.

For those who prefer a step-by-step guide with pictures, please skip to the next section.

 

How To Enable MySJ Trace In MySejahtera?

MySJ Trace is (currently) NOT mandatory and is an opt-in feature, so you actually have to manually enable it, if you want to participate.

Step 1 : Update to the MySejahtera version that has MySJ Trace.

Step 2 : Open MySejahtera, and you will see a black MySJ Trace section in the default Check-in screen.

Step 3 : Tap on Setup MySJ Trace to begin the setup process.

Step 4 : Tap on the Start button in the initial explainer screen.

Step 5 : Tap the I agree button to consent to give your “interaction information” for the past 14 days to the Malaysia Ministry of Health for “contact tracing purposes”.

Step 6 : In the App Permissions screen, tap on the Allow button.

Step 7 : First, you will be asked to allow MySejahtera to access your smartphone’s location. Tap on While using the app.

Step 8 : Next, you will be asked to allow MySejahtera to detect your location all the time. Tap on Allow all the time.

Step 9 : Now, you will be asked to enable Bluetooth, if it is not already enabled.

Step 10 : Once all necessary permissions have been enabled, just tap on the Close button.

That’s it! You have now activated MySJ Trace in MySejahtera.

 

What If You Can’t Enable MySJ Trace In MySejahtera?

Quite a few people have reported to us that tapping on the Allow button doesn’t do anything (Step 6). Here are some solutions…

iOS Devices : Manually Turn On Bluetooth

In your iOS device, there are two ways to turn on Bluetooth :

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth, and tap on the toggle to turn it on
  2. Pull down the Notification Center, and tap on the Bluetooth icon to turn it on.

After turning on Bluetooth manually, set up MySJ Trace again from Step 3. It should now work.

Android Devices : Manually Turn On Bluetooth + Location

In your Android device, there are two ways to turn on Bluetooth :

  1. Go to Settings > Connections, and tap on the Bluetooth toggle to turn it on
  2. Pull down the notification tray, and tap on the Bluetooth icon to turn it on.

After turning on Bluetooth manually, you should also manually enable Location permission :

Step 1 : Go to Settings > Apps > MySejahtera > Permissions.

Step 2 : Tap on the Location option under the list of Allowed permissions.

Step 3 : Tap on Allow All the time.

After this, set up MySJ Trace again from Step 3. It should now work.

Android 12 Devices : Enable Nearby Devices

MySJ Trace may stop working once your device is upgraded to Android 12.

Here is what you need to do to get MySJ Trace working again with Android 12 devices:

Step 1 : Go to Settings > Apps > MySejahtera > Permissions.

Step 2 : Tap on the Nearby devices option under the list of Not allowed permissions.

Step 3 : Tap on the Allow option.

How To Disable MySJ Trace In MySejahtera?

Quickly + Temporarily Disable MySJ Trace

MySejahtera does not offer any option to turn off MySJ Trace once you set it up, but if you prefer to turn off MySJ Trace to “protect your privacy“, or to save a little power, there is an easy way to do it.

All you have to do is disable Bluetooth connectivity, and MySJ Trace is immediately disabled. That’s because MySJ Trace relies on Bluetooth to determine your proximity to other users.

You can do that by pulling down the notification tray in your smartphone, and tapping on the active Bluetooth icon to disable it. Alternatively, you can disable it in your device settings.

Once disabled, the MySJ Trace section in the MySejahtera check-in screen will now ask you to setup again. But there is no need to set it up again.

Whenever you want to re-enable MySJ Trace, all you have to do is re-enable Bluetooth, and MySJ Trace will immediately start working again. Essentially, your smartphone’s Bluetooth connectivity now acts as a toggle for MySJ Trace.

Permanently Disable MySJ Trace

For those who want to permanently disable MySJ Trace, without disabling Bluetooth, reinstalling MySejahtera works for both Android and iOS devices. This is the only known solution for iOS devices.

Android devices, on the other hand, have two alternatives – disabling location permission, or clearing app data.

Option A : Disable Location Permission

Here are the steps to disable Location Permission for MySejahtera in your Android device :

Step 1 : Go to Settings > Apps > MySejahtera > Permissions.

Step 2 : Tap on the Location option under the list of Allowed permissions.

Step 3 : Tap on Allow only while using the app or Deny.

That’s it! Once you go out, MySJ Trace will be permanently disabled in MySejahtera.

Option B : Clear MySejahtera App Data

Here are the steps to clear the MySejahtera app data in your Android device :

Step 1 : Go to Settings > Apps > MySejahtera > Storage.

Step 2 : Tap on Clear data. You will be warned that this will remove your MySejahtera account information and database.

Please be warned that if you proceed, your MySejahtera account information will be cleared, together with your past contact history.

Your COVID-19 vaccination history and certificate are stored in the cloud and remain safe, but you will need to log into your MySejahtera account again.

So please do NOT proceed unless you remember your MySJ ID and password!

Step 3 : If you are sure, tap on the OK option to clear the MySejahtera data.

Step 4 : Launch MySejahtera, and log into MySejahtera using your MySJ ID (either your mobile number or email address), and your password.

After you log in, you will see that MySJ Trace has been disabled. You will need to setup MySJ Trace (again) to enable it.

How To Register Children For Vaccine In MySejahtera Video

On 15 June 2021, the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) announced that the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) approved the use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in children 12 years and above.

On 6 January 2022, the new Pfizer paediatric COVID-19 vaccine was approved for children 5 to 11 years in age.

As such, MySejahtera has been updated to allow registration of children 5 years and above for the COVID-19 vaccine, so here is updated our video guide on how to do that!

 

How To Register Children For Vaccine In MySejahtera Guide

For those who prefer a step-by-step guide with pictures, here is our guide on registering your children for vaccine in MySejahtera :

Step 1 : Update MySejahtera to version 1.1.5 or later.

Step 2 : Open MySejahtera, and tap Close on the default Check-in screen.

Step 3 : Tap on the COVID-19 Vaccination option.

Step 4 : In the Vaccination screen, tap on Add Vaccine Dependent.

Step 5 : If you have not already registered your kids as Vaccine Dependents, tap on Add Vaccination Dependent.

If you have already registered your kids as Vaccine Dependents, please skip to Step 7.

Step 6 : You will need to fill in your child’s details. After you are done, tap Save.

Step 7 : In the Vaccination screen, you should see your child now listed as a Vaccination Dependent. Tap on the Add as vaccine dependent link.

Step 8 : You will now be asked to confirm that you are authorised to manage the vaccination process for your child.

You will also be informed that only one person can manage your child’s vaccination. Tap Yes, Proceed.

Step 9 : In this screen, you need to check your child’s name and IC / Passport No.

Tap Edit if you need to make changes. Otherwise, tap on the “I confirm” check box, and tap Confirm.

Step 10 : You will need to fill in the next section, including adding your location, state and post code.

Once you are done, tap Submit.

Please BE HONEST in this assessment. It will, after all, be verified by the Ministry of Health.

When it comes to Question no. 2 – Do you have any comorbities? – that refers to any medical condition your child has.

For your reference, this includes :

    • Diabetes mellitus
    • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
    • Heart disease
    • Asthma
    • Cancer
    • Chronic lung disease
    • Kidney disease
    • Liver disease
    • Stroke
    • Low Immunity (Immunocompromised)
    • Obesity
    • Others

Step 11 : You should now see a Thank You message. Tap Close.

In the Vaccination Dependent list, your child will have a green checkmark next to his/her name.

If you made any mistake, you can tap on Remove vaccine dependent, and begin the process all over again, from Step 7.

Then all you have to do is wait for the Malaysia Ministry of Health to contact you when it is your child’s turn to be vaccinated against COVID-19!

 

Children Vaccine Registration In MySejahtera : How To Check?

Don’t leave just yet. Make sure your registration was completed properly using these steps :

  1. Go back to the MySejahtera main screen, and tap on the COVID-19 Vaccination option again.


  1. In this screen, tap on Vaccine for [your child’s name].
  2. You will see when your child was registered, and his/her current status under the COVID-19 vaccination program.

  1. You do NOT need to click on the three update options, unless there are changes to be made.

Penang Smart Parking Glitch Reduced Balance To RM4.40!

On 19 January 2022, drivers in Penang received a surprise when their Penang Smart Parking app showed a balance of just RM 4.40.

Many took to social media to ask if their accounts were hacked, or claim that the Penang Smart Parking app was hacked.

Currently, it does NOT appear to be a hack, as everyone reported the same RM4.40 balance in their account.

 

Penang Smart Parking Glitch Fixed, Balances Synced By Tomorrow!

When the problem first cropped up, the Penang Smart Parking team asked the public not to worry if their account balance shows RM4.40, as their eWallet balances remain secure and intact.

At 5:51 PM, the PSP team announced that they successfully fixed the problem, and restored the correct eWallet record.

All transactions will be synchronised after operating hours today at 6:00 PM, and is expected to be completed by 6 AM on 20 January 2022.

Though I guess there is probably several other apps or with the telcos help that they can already do exactly that.

Although surprisingly the police have been totally unable to locate the ex husband of Indira Gandhi or her children that the ex husband abducted, despite the court ordering the police to do so.

That’s really a typical response to any new MySejahtera feature – the government is introducing it to snoop on us. Our privacy is gone! They will know where we are!

Truth : No One Can Use MySJ Trace To Track You 24/7

The truth is – this is yet another example of FAKE NEWS being shared on WhatsApp, and here are the reasons why it’s not possible for anyone to use it to track you 24/7…

Fact #1 : MySJ Trace Only Tracks Your Proximity

MySJ Trace does not actually detect your location, which is why you still need to check into locations manually.

It only detects and logs the Bluetooth signals of nearby smartphones with MySJ Trace enabled, to determine how close they are and how long they remain in proximity.

MySJ Trace also broadcasts itself to nearby devices, so that they can log its presence, distance and length of contact.

Fact #2 : MySJ Trace Does Not Collect Location Data

MySJ Trace does not collect geolocation data, only these data:

  • Unique User ID (UUID) that is created by the MySejahtera app.
  • Operating system version (Android or iOS)
  • Time of contact
  • Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI)

The Malaysia Ministry of Health confirmed this in no. 17 of their FAQ, stating that “geolocation data will not be collected“.

So there’s no way for the government to actually know where you are using only MySJ Trace data.

Fact #3 : MySJ Trace Only Stores 14 Days Of Data

The data that MySJ Trace records is only stored for the last 14 days, on a first-in, first out (FIFO) basis.

All data older than the most recent 14 days are automatically purged.

So even if a hacker gains access to it, he/she will only have access to your proximity contact data for the last 14 days.

Fact #4 : MySJ Trace Does Not Transmit Your Data Automatically

The proximity contact data that MySJ Trace logs is NOT automatically transmitted to the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM).

Only when you are identified as COVID-19 positive, will you be asked to submit your proximity contact data for the last 14 days.

Fact #5 : MySJ Trace Data Is Stored + Used Only By KKM

Your proximity data that you upload will be stored in a secured database server managed by the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM).

Only KKM has access to your uploaded proximity data, which will be used to determine your close contacts so they can be notified.

Fact #6 : We Are Not That Interesting…

Frankly, most of us are not that interesting to the government. They are not interested in where you live or travel to, what you eat or buy, or even who you are sleeping with.

All that data is interesting and useful to corporations, but not the Malaysian government. Please remember – you are living in Malaysia, not China or North Korea.

Why would the government want to know where you are, or where you have gone, or who you have met?

Fact #7 : There Are Easier Ways To Find You…

Finally, the “fear” of the government using MySJ Trace to track where you are at all times is frankly, ludicrous because there are far easier ways to do it.

The truth is – our geolocation data is readily available to your mobile service provider, as well as cloud and social media service providers (Google, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc.)

If the government really wants to know where you are, they can simply get a court order to force your mobile service provider to tell them where you are right now.

They don’t have to rely on an opt-in feature in the MySejahtera app, and wait until you submit your own proximity data…

Now that you know the facts, please TURN ON MySJ Trace, to improve contact tracing!

Here is what you need to know!

 

MySJ Trace : A New MySejahtera Feature!

MySJ Trace is a new MySejahtera feature, which allows for more accurate contact tracing using Bluetooth technology. It also removes the need to manually check out from the locations you checked in earlier.

Once enabled, your phone will automatically communicate with other phones that have MySJ Trace enabled as well, to determine the distance and length of contact. This eliminates the need to manually check-out.

This allows Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) to more accurately determine if you are a close contact of a COVID-19 positive person.

Obviously, this feature only works if everyone has MySJ Trace enabled, so its effectiveness will depend greatly on how many people activate it.

MySejahtera with MySJ Trace : Now Available For Android + iOS!

MySJ Trace is currently available only in MySejahtera version 1.1.3 and above.

It was first introduced in MySejahtera version 1.1.3 which is available only from the HUAWEI AppGallery

But on 25 December 2021, it was also introduced in MySejahtera version 1.1.4 in the Google Play Store, so all Android users will have access to it.

On 30 December 2021, it was finally introduced in MySejahtera version 1.1.4 in the Apple App Store, for both iPhone and iPad!

MySJ Trace is (currently) NOT mandatory and is an opt-in feature, so you actually have to manually enable it, if you want to participate.

Step 1 : Update to the MySejahtera version that has MySJ Trace.

Step 2 : Open MySejahtera, and you will see a black MySJ Trace section in the default Check-in screen.

Step 3 : Tap on Setup MySJ Trace to begin the setup process.

Step 4 : Tap on the Start button in the initial explainer screen.

Step 5 : Tap the I agree button to consent to give your “interaction information” for the past 14 days to the Malaysia Ministry of Health for “contact tracing purposes”.

Step 6 : In the App Permissions screen, tap on the Allow button.

Step 7 : First, you will be asked to allow MySejahtera to access your smartphone’s location. Tap on While using the app.

Step 8 : Next, you will be asked to allow MySejahtera to detect your location all the time. Tap on Allow all the time.

Step 9 : Now, you will be asked to enable Bluetooth, if it is not already enabled.

Step 10 : Once all necessary permissions have been enabled, just tap on the Close button.

That’s it! You have now activated MySJ Trace in MySejahtera.

If at any time you do not wish to temporarily deactivate it, you can simply disable Bluetooth, and turn Bluetooth back on again when you need it.

New MySJ Trace Feature : What You Need To Know!

MySejahtera has a new feature called MySJ Trace, which logs your close contacts for more accurate contact tracing.

Here is what you need to know about the new MySejahtera feature!

 

MySJ Trace : New Tracking Feature In MySejahtera

Currently, MySejahtera relies on manual logging in at various entry points, which results in many false positives and false negatives.

  • false positive : you wrongly get identified as a close or casual contact
  • false negative : you are not flagged as a close contact, even when you come into close proximity with a COVID-19 positive person

To eliminate those errors, MySejahtera is introducing a new and more accurate contact tracing feature called MySJ Trace.

Similar to Singapore’s TraceTogether app, MySJ Trace uses Bluetooth technology to more accurately determine your proximity to other people, so MySejahtera can better determine if you are a close contact, or not.

It also removes the need to manually check out from the locations you checked in earlier.

MySJ Trace is currently available only in MySejahtera version 1.1.3 and above.

1. What is MySJ Trace?

2. What is the difference between MySJ Trace and MySejahtera?

Users only need to update the MySejahtera application to the latest version.

6. How does MySJ Trace function?

MySJ Trace enables participating devices to exchange proximity information whenever the app detects another device with the same app installed. Data collected will be stored and processed only by the MOH officers.

When a user is identified to be COVID-19 positive, the user will initiate a process to upload the data from the user’s smartphone to a secured database managed by the MOH.

7. What is contact tracing?

Contact tracing is an identification process of individuals who may have come into close contact with an infected COVID-19 patient.

It enables the MOH to further trace and contact the individuals and organize a follow-up action.

8. If I have been identified as a close contact, how will I be contacted?

The user will receive an SMS, and a notification in the MySejahtera app.

9. What data are collected by MySJ Trace?

Only these data are collected :

  • Unique User ID (UUID) that is created by the MySejahtera app.
  • Operating system version (Android or iOS)
  • Time of contact
  • Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI)

10. Are my personal information that is stored in the app safe?

MySejahtera and MySJ Trace are owned and operated entirely by the Malaysian government. The government guarantees that all information collected and used in the app comply with the information security standards of the government of Malaysia.

11. Does MySJ Trace require Internet connectivity after activation?

Yes, Internet connectivity is required when you first update the MySejahtera app, and during the data uploading process.

12. What devices support MySJ Trace?

MySJ Trace is supported by smartphones that use the Android or iOS operating systems :

  • Android : Version 8.0 and above
    – Non-sleep mode must be set, so MySJ Trace will remain active in both foreground and background modes.
  • iOS : Version 10 and above
    – The phone must be active at all times while the app needs to be in the foreground mode.

13. Must Bluetooth be activated at all times?

Yes, Bluetooth must be activated at all times for MySJ Trace to work properly.

14. Will Bluetooth usage cause high battery usage?

Unlike using Bluetooth to stream music or to a wireless headphone continuously, MySJ Trace uses Bluetooth to only transmit its presence periodically. As such, it uses significantly less power.

15. Will the app use significant battery power if MySJ Trace is left running all the time?

MySJ Trace uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to minimise battery usage. Therefore, the app does not use significant amounts of battery power to collect persistent contact tracing information.

16. Will MySJ Trace Bluetooth usage affect my other Bluetooth accessories?

MySJ Trace does not affect the use or performance of other Bluetooth accessories like wireless speakers, wireless earphones or headphones, or smartwatches.

17. Why must I allow location permission for the Android version?

Android requires location permission to be granted for any app to access Bluetooth features. However, geolocation data will not be collected.

For iOS, only the Bluetooth function needs to be enabled.

WW3 Game Goes Viral With Map Of West Taiwan + Uyghur Nation!

Games by smaller developers often have a tough time going viral, which is especially important for F2P (free-to-play) massively-multiplayer online games.

Bytro Labs – the German developer of the mobile version of Conflict of Nations: World War 3, appears to have hit the nail on the head with their latest advertisement.

On 3 December 2021, Bytro Labs started advertising their mobile game on Facebook using a map of a tiny China, with a massive West Taiwan to the south, and even an Uyghur nation to the west!

It seemed to be an intentional attempt to go viral, and boy, did they succeed!

 

Chinese Netizens Outraged Over Map Of West Taiwan + Uyghur Nation!

Needless to say, the Conflict of Nations: World War 3 advertisement quickly went viral, with Chinese netizens outraged over the map showing West Taiwan and an Uyghur nation.

Some Chinese websites and netizens derisively noted the many “mistakes” in the map :

  • Mainland China was labelled as West Taiwan
  • Mongolia was labelled as China
  • The Xinjiang province was labelled as the Uyghur nation
  • The nine-dash line was missing

What those Chinese netizens don’t realise is that Conflict of Nations: WW3 is military strategy game set in the future. So the maps don’t really have make sense. After all, World War 3 itself has not happened!

It’s no different than playing any of the Civilizations game to end up with Germany conquering America. Or watching alternate history shows like The Man in the High Castle or For All Mankind.

More importantly, the game itself does not have those “mistakes” – the actual map uses the correct official name and boundary for each country.

 

Bytro Labs Harnessed Little Pink Army For Free Marketing?

Chinese netizens seem to believe that this was an intentional attempt to besmirch their beloved Middle Kingdom, sharing the screenshots of the advertisement and criticising it ad nauseam.

But this is likely a clever way for Bytro Labs to harness China’s Little Pink (小粉红, xiǎo fěnhóng) army for free marketing.

They probably decided to emulate how Malaysian singer-songwriter, Namewee, leveraged the Chinese Little Pink army to go viral with his satirical song, It Might Break Your Pinky Heart!

After all, the other “mistakes” in the map suggests that Bytro Labs was trying to “trigger” controversy in multiple countries. But only Chinese netizens took the bait.

  • Nepal was labelled as Georgia
  • Laos is now part of Vietnam
  • There is a country called Kashmir

Bytro Labs only ran that Facebook advertisement for a short time, but they succeeded in getting their game noticed worldwide, even by gamers who would never have given the game another thought.

And the Little Pink army is now actively engaged in helping them reach out to more people. You just can’t beat that kind of FREE viral marketing.

Bytro Labs and Namewee’s recent success in harnessing the Little Pink army could encourage more businesses that don’t rely on the Chinese market, to leverage their sensitivities to go viral.

Interesting times indeed!

PDRM + JPJ Traffic Offences : How To Get 80% Discount?

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) just announced the latest details of their 4-day traffic offence discount programme!

Now you can actually skip the queue, and pay for your traffic offences with up to 80% discount online!

 

Discount For Traffic Offences : What Was Announced Earlier

It was announced earlier that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) would be offering massive discounts on traffic offences over four days at the KL Convention Centre (KLCC).

  • 80% discount for traffic summonses within Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya
  • 70% discount for traffic summonses outside Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya

That immediately led to criticism that the tiered discounts is discriminatory. A common refrain -why are people in KL and Putrajaya getting more discount than those from other states?

They also announced that these discounts would only be valid at the KLCC payment counters. That was roundly criticised as it would mean people gathering and queuing for hours – a big risk during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

PDRM + JPJ Traffic Offences : How To Get 80% Discount?

Just before the offer kicked off, PDRM and JPJ issued press releases (JPJ) making changes to the traffic offence discount programme :

Discount Now Up To 80%

PDRM and JPJ announced that they will offer up to 80% discount on traffic summonses, with a minimum of RM30.

There is no longer any reference to a 70% discount for traffic summonses outside KL and Putrajaya.

Discount Programme Runs For 4 Days

The PDRM and JPJ traffic summons discount programme will run for 4 days – from 9 until 12 December 2021.

You Don’t Have To Pay At KLCC!

PDRM will now allow you to pay for your compound at multiple venues, and even online!

  • PDRM Payment Counters @ KLCC
  • Summon Payment Counters at Police District Headquarters
  • Summon Payment Counters at Police Contingent Headquarters
  • MyBAYAR Saman online portal or app

JPJ will similarly allow you to pay for your compound at multiple venues, and even online!

Discounts Do NOT Apply To All Traffic Offences

The discounts being offered do NOT apply to all traffic offences. Here is a list of traffic offences that will not be reduced under this programme :

  • Causing accidents
  • Overtaking another vehicle dangerously
  • Driving on the emergency lane
  • Not obeying traffic lights
  • Overtaking across double lines
  • Non-compoundable offences
  • Offences involving heavy vehicles
  • Modification of vehicle exhausts
  • Cases registered at the courts
  • Arrest warrants that have not resulted in Discharge Not Amounting To Acquittal (DNAA)

PDRM + JPJ Advised Public To Pay Compounds Online!

Instead of requiring people to queue up at the KL Convention Centre, PDRM and JPJ now advise the public to pay their compounds online instead.

They also called on those who wish to pay their compounds physically, to obey COVID-19 precautions and SOP.

 

How To Pay PDRM / JPJ Traffic Offences Online?

PDRM

Instead of queuing up at the police headquarters, you should use the online MyBayar Saman portal or app :

The PDRM launched MyBayar Saman as an alternative payment option, instead of paying over-the-counter, or using private collecting agents like MyEG.

This would also save the public money as MyBayar Saman is FREE, and does not collect service charges. They can also pay their fines at their convenience, without wasting time queuing to pay.

JPJ

Instead of queuing up at JPJ offices, you should use their online mySIKAP online portal.

MySejahtera : How To Clear App Cache To Resolve Problems!

If you face problems in MySejahtera, clearing its App Cache is a quick way to resolve them.

Here is our step-by-step guide on how to clear the MySejahtera App Cache!

 

Why You Need To Clear MySejahtera App Cache

MySejahtera has improved greatly since it was first launched, but many users still complain of various bugs and problems.

For example, your vaccination status may not appear correctly. Many people have also reported that they were unable to generate and/or download their COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

The most common solution to this problem is to delete and reinstall MySejahtera. But before you do that, you can actually try to clear its App Cache.

 

How To Clear MySejahtera App Cache : Video Guide

Here is our video guide on how to clear the MySejahtera App Cache on Android smartphones.

Unfortunately, there is no such option for the iPhone.

 

How To Clear MySejahtera App Cache : Pictorial Guide

For those who prefer a pictorial guide, here is our step-by-step guide on how to clear the MySejahtera app cache.

Step 1 : Look for Settings in your Android smartphone.

Step 2 : Scroll down the list of available settings, and tap on Apps.

Step 3 : Tap on the Search icon on the upper right corner of Apps.

Step 4 : Type “mysejahtera” and when it appears, tap on MySejahtera.

Step 5 : Scroll down and tap on the Storage option.

Step 6 : In the MySejahtera Storage page, tap on the Clear cache option at the bottom.

Warning : Do NOT tap on Clear data, as that would wipe out your login data. It will be like you deleted and reinstalled MySejahtera.

But if you did it anyway, don’t worry. Your other MySejahtera data is still safely stored in the cloud. You just need to log into MySejahtera again.

That’s it! That clears the MySejahtera app cache! Simple enough, isn’t it?

You can now log into MySejahtera to see if that resolves your problem.

Bonus Step : Delete App Data Too!

If it still did NOT resolve your problem, you can repeat the steps above, and tap on Clear data instead of just tapping on Clear cache.

But be warned that this step will wipe out your login data, so you will need to log into MySejahtera after this. It will be similar to deleting and reinstalling MySejahtera.

How To Fix WRONG HSO + PUS Status In MySejahtera!

MySejahtera WRONGLY issued Home Surveillance Orders (HSO) and Person Under Surveillance (PUS) status, causing chaos for users.

Fortunately, that has been fixed, but here was what you can do if your HSO / PUS status persists…

 

Chaos As MySejahtera WRONGLY Issued HSO + PUS Status!

Overnight, MySejahtera suddenly issued people with Home Surveillance Orders (HSO) and/or gave them Person Under Surveillance (PUS) status.

This was a BIG PROBLEM because those who received them would be BARRED from leaving their homes. And if they have a flight scheduled that day, they would be barred from flying.

Many people who received them expressed their shock online, especially when they did not travel recently.

Lokidesu, for example, said that he received a notification at 2 AM this morning that he is now a Person Under Surveillance (PUS) even though he never went out :

I’m only staying at home all the time,then suddenly today I receive a notification saying my status is now “Person Under Surveillance (PUS)”. For my history,I have not even go out anywhere within 14 days, please check into this. Timestamp screenshot: 7 Nov 2021 2am

Another MySejahtera user, Yen, wondered how she was labelled as a PUS and received a Home Surveillance Order at 4 AM in the morning, even though she had no history of travelling or close contacts.

Hi, I have no history of travelling overseas, no close contact, no positive covid, but suddenly I was labeled as a person under surveillance (PUS) which require 14 days quarantine. Please follow up and fix ASAP as this is not correct!

 

Good News : MySejahtera HSO + PUS Bug Fixed!

Fortunately, the MySejahtera team managed to get the bug fixed, which they announced at 8:49 AM.

The incorrect Home Surveillance Orders and Person Under Surveillance status were all rescinded.

Good morning everyone – we apologise for the error on our part which allowed random users’ to be given HSOs/PUS status.

We have fixed the root cause which allowed this to happen. All incorrect HSOs have been deleted, and incorrect PUS status reverted.

 

What If Your MySejahtera Still Shows Incorrect HSO / PUS?

In the event that your MySejahtera app still shows the incorrect HSO or PUS notification, here are some steps you can try :

Option 1 : Log Into MySejahtera Again

The easiest thing you can try is to log off MySejahtera, and log back in again.

  • Go to the MySejahtera main page
  • Tap on Profile
  • Tap on the Menu option on the upper right corner
  • Select Logout
  • Open MySejahtera and log back in

Option 2 : Clear MySejahtera App Cache

If you know how to clear the MySejahtera app cache, you can try that too :

  • Go to your phone Settings > Apps
  • Look for MySejahtera
  • Clear the MySejahtera app cache
  • Run MySejahtera again

Option 3 : Reinstall MySejahtera

If you don’t know how to clear the app cache, it will be simpler to just reinstall MySejahtera :

  • Delete MySejahtera from your phone (don’t worry – your data is safe)
  • Reinstall MySejahtera from App Store / Play Store
  • Open MySejahtera and log back in

Option 4 : Ask To Redo Health Assessment

The last option you can try is to ask to redo your health assessment using Helpdesk

  • Go to the MySejahtera main page
  • Tap on Helpdesk
  • Tap Start > K > A > A > B
  • Write a short message saying that you received an incorrect HSO / PUS status, and tap Next
  • Key in your email address and press Submit

You should get a notification to redo your health assessment within an hour.

New In MySejahtera : Risk Level, Vax Status + Check-Out!

MySejahtera just introduced a more prominent display of your COVID-19 risk level and vaccination status, as well as a new Check-out button!

 

New In MySejahtera : Risk Level + Vaccination Status Display

Now that a majority of Malaysians have been vaccinated – 60% of all adult citizens as of 2 September 2021 – the government believes it is time to learn to live with COVID-19.

To that end, the MySejahtera team will be pushing out a new built (version) that will make the display of your COVID-19 Risk Level and Vaccination Status more prominent.

Both are currently “hidden” in your MySejahtera profile, and the update will bring them to the forefront, to make it easier for you to display them.

 

New In MySejahtera : Check-Out Button

One design flaw of the original MySejahtera contact tracing feature is that it only logged when you check INTO a location. There was never an option to check OUT of a location.

Belatedly, the MySejahtera team will be adding a check-out button. You just need to tap Check-out whenever you leave the premise – there is no need to scan any QR code.

With this feature, you will be able to let contact tracers know exactly how long you were within a certain premise.

Without knowing exactly how long you were in a certain premise, contact tracers will not be able to determine if you are truly at risk of being a close contact of a COVID-19 infected person.

For example, if you pop into Village Grocer for 15 minutes and a COVID-19 positive person came to shop an hour later, contact tracers will not know if you are at risk if they do not know when you left the store.

This will inevitably lead to a large number of people wrongly identified as close contacts, when they were never at risk at all.

This new check-out feature will be critical in reducing the number of false close contacts who will be required to home quarantine.

 

When Will These New MySejahtera Features Be Available?

These new features will be available in MySejahtera 1.0.45, with these changes :

  • Enhancements to check-in page to display vaccination status
  • New Check-out feature
  • Minor bug fixes

It was made available in the Apple App Store for iPhone users on 2 September, but only appeared in the Google Play Store for Android users on 5 September 2021.

How To Use Digital Consent Form In MySejahtera!

MySejahtera has a new Digital Consent Form feature for the COVID-19 vaccine!

MySejahtera Launches Digital Consent Form For Vaccination!

MySejahtera has finally introduced a Digital Consent Form!

This new feature allows you to read through the form and consent to COVID-19 vaccination, before you even head to the vaccination centre!

This feature also shortens the amount of time you spend at the vaccination centre, by removing the need to read and sign the consent form there.

 

How To Use Digital Consent Form In MySejahtera!

The Digital Consent Form for COVID-19 vaccination is available with MySejahtera version 1.0.40 onwards.

There are a couple of things to note about this new feature :

  1. It only applies to those who have NOT received their first vaccine dose, and therefore, have NOT signed a physical consent form.
  2. If you have already received your first vaccine dose, or signed a physical consent form, you do NOT need to use this digital form.
  3. You need to read and fill up the Digital Consent Form BEFORE heading to the vaccination centre.

Follow these steps to use the Digital Consent Form feature in MySejahtera :

  1. Make sure you have already installed MySejahtera 1.0.40 or later.
  2. Open MySejahtera and tap Close on the default Check-in screen.
  3. Tap on the COVID-19 Vaccination option.

  1. You will see a list of Vaccination registrations (including Vaccine Dependents, if you have any).
  2. Select the Vaccination registration you need.
  3. Scroll to the 1st Dose appointment section, and you should see the option to :
    Click here to confirm your digital consent, or
    Click here to confirm your dependent’s digital consent (for your Vaccine Dependents)

  1. You will see a list of Vaccination registrations (including Vaccine Dependents, if you have any).
  2. Read through the form, and tick any necessary checkboxes for your health history.
  3. Once you are satisfied, tick “With this, I agree to receive the COVID-19 vaccine” option and tap Submit.

That’s it! Your vaccine appointment will be updated to show that you digitally consented to the vaccine.

Once this is done, the process for your vaccine appointment will shorter and smoother.

You won’t even need to bring a pen and something stiff to write on!

So please try to use this Digital Consent Form feature in MySejahtera, and tell your friends about it!

PDRM : 50% Discount On Traffic Offences For 1 Month!

On 17 June 2021, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) announced that they will offer 50% discount on traffic offences from 18 June until 18 July 2021.

The discounts will also apply to fines in the black list category, but will NOT include

  • summonses under court review,
  • major offences committed in 2021,
  • offences involving heavy vehicles, or
  • offences exhaust modification.

 

How To Get 50% Discount On Traffic Offences

The 50% discount on traffic offences is only valid for ONLINE PAYMENT.

In fact, PDRM announced that they will close all payment counters in police district and contingent headquarters, to prevent people queuing up and creating new COVID-19 clusters.

To get the 50% discount, you will need to use one of these options :

  1. MyBayar Saman online : https://mybayar.rmp.gov.my/
  2. Google Play Store
  3. Apple App Store
  4. HUAWEI App Gallery

PDRM also shared that MyBayar Saman has been upgraded to allow companies and business entities to register as a user, and make payments.

MySejahtera : Why Change / Cancel Vaccine Appointment?

With new COVID-19 cases at an all-time highs, many people are anxiously awaiting their COVID-19 vaccine appointments.

But sometimes, people have no choice but to cancel or change their appointment dates for reasons like :

Whatever your reasons may be, you now have the ability to check, change or cancel your COVID-19 vaccine appointments through MySejahtera.

 

MySejahtera : Two Ways To Check, Change, Cancel Vaccine Appointment

There are two ways to check, change or cancel your COVID-19 vaccine appointment.

Option A : MySejahtera Website

  1. Go to the MySejahtera website – English | BM.
  2. Click on the Contact Us option – English | BM.
  3. Click Start > A. Vaccination Appointment
    Or use these direct links – English | BM.
  4. You will see three Vaccination Appointment options.

Option B : MySejahtera App

  1. Open the MySejahtera app.
  2. Tap Close on the default Check-in screen.
  3. Tap Helpdesk in the MySejahtera main screen.
  4. Select Start.

  1. Select A. Vaccination Appointment.
  2. You will see three Vaccination Appointment options.

 

MySejahtera : How To Change / Cancel Vaccine Appointment?

Once you get to the three Vaccination Appointment options, this is what they do :

Option A : Check AstraZeneca Vaccine Appointment

If you select option A. I have not received a date despite getting a “Thank You” display after submitting the appointment slot booking for AstraZeneca registration, you will receive this notice :

Incorrect Identity Card (IC) or passport number entered in MySejahtera is one of the main reasons you still do not receive the date of the appointment even though you have received a “Thank You” display after booking.

To check your IC/passport information on MySejahtera, please:

  1. Go to the MySejahtera homepage
  2. Click on the ‘COVID-19 Vaccination’ icon on the main page
  3. Select ‘Vaccine for [your name]”

If your ID or passport details need to be updated, please:

  • Log in to your MySejahtera account
  • Click on the “MySejahtera” icon
  • Click on the “HELPDESK” icon
  • Click on “START”
  • Click on option C ‘I want to update my Name, IC / Passport, User ID or delete my account’
  • Click on option A “I want to update my name & IC / Passport number”
  • Enter your USER ID details and click “NEXT”
  • Enter your USER ID & EMAIL and confirm EMAIL and click “SEND”
  • Go back to the MySejahtera homepage and repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 above.
  • Edit your personal information within 24 hours.

Note

For incorrect ID/passport entered in the booking system at www.vaksincovid.gov.my during AstraZeneca registration, you can contact the National COVID-19 Vaccination Registration Line @ 1800-888-828 for updates.

If you select No, it doesn’t work, you will be asked to submit your MySejahtera user ID (MySJ ID) and your MyKad or passport number.

In the following page, you will be asked to submit your mobile number and an email address for them to write back to you on what to do next.

Option B : Cancel AstraZeneca Vaccine Appointment

AstraZeneca vaccine appointments cannot be changed, because you have the option to select the date and place.

If you cannot make it for your AstraZeneca vaccine appointment, you can select B. How to cancel my AstraZeneca appointment, which will display these two options :

You are encouraged to attend the appointment that has been given to you. However, if you:

  1. CANNOT ATTEND your appointment, please answer ‘NO’ in the appointment confirmation on your MySejahtera. Your name will go back to the list of vaccine recipients under the National COVID-19 Immunization Program.
  2. WANT TO CANCEL the ‘YES’ confirmation for an appointment that has been made previously, please fill in the details below.
    – MySJ User ID
    – IC / Passport

Option C : Cancel / Change PICK Vaccine Appointment

When you select C. I have already confirmed my appointment but would like to cancel and change my appointment date in PICK programme, you will be asked to select one of these reason :

A. Not feeling well
B. Decided not to take vaccine
C. Have other things to do
D. Transportation Issue
E. The allocated facility is too far away
F. Others

You will be asked to submit your MySejahtera user ID (MySJ ID) and your MyKad or passport number.

Then you will need to check your MySejahtera after 7 days for a new vaccination appointment date.

People are posting and sharing messages about a new MySejahtera feature that lets senior citizens of 60 years and above request for COVID-19 vaccine appointments.

Here are two examples of those viral messages :

For those above 60,who still do not have an appointment for your vaccination,you can go to MySejahtera Helpdesk,and press B👆🏻

For all those who are yet to get your vaccination appointment.

1. open mysejahtera
2. click on help desk
3. Start
4. Select option B
5. You will be given an appointment.

Not A New MySejahtera Vaccine Appointment Feature For Seniors…

The viral messages are not exactly correct.

This is NOT a new MySejahtera feature lets senior citizens request for, and receive, a COVID-19 vaccine appointment.

This is really a Helpdesk alternative to the JKJAV hotline for people who have already registered for their COVID-19 vaccination.

This is similar to the new Helpdesk features that allow people to check, change or cancel their vaccine appointments online, instead of through the JKJAV hotline.

Here are the facts…

Fact #1 : It Is Not A New MySejahtera App Feature

The viral messages ask us to open the MySejahtera app and tap on Helpdesk to get to the new vaccine appointment feature.

The truth is tapping on the Helpdesk option in the MySejahtera app merely opens up a web browser, and redirects you to the online MySejahtera Helpdesk website.

You don’t even need to use the MySejahtera app. You can access the MySejahtera Helpdesk website using any Internet browser via these links – English | Bahasa Melayu.

Fact #2 : It Is Just A New Help Option

The truth is – this is just a new Helpdesk option, to help people check for their COVID-19 vaccine appointments, and for the MySejahtera team identify those who didn’t get their vaccine appointments yet.

If you select B. 60 years old and above but haven’t received my appointment (Phase 2), you will be asked if you have  chronic illness or not.

Whatever option you select, you will be taught how to check for your vaccine appointment in MySejahtera :

  • Click on the COVID-19 Vaccination icon on the MySejahtera main page.
  • Choose the Vaccine for [your name] option to view your appointment details

And if you still do NOT see your vaccine appointment, then you are asked to submit your MySejahtera user ID (MySJ ID) and your MyKad or passport number.

In the next page, you will be asked to submit your mobile number and an email address for them to write back to you on what to do next.

This will allow the MySejahtera team to look into your vaccine appointment, or why your MySejahtera app does not display the vaccine appointments.

It does NOT mean you will be automatically given your COVID-19 vaccine appointments, as the viral messages claim.

Your COVID-19 vaccine appointment will be issued according to these criteria :

  • when you registered for COVID-19 vaccination
  • your age
  • if you have any co-morbidities (chronic illness)
  • your location

Nowhere in this process do you see it being mentioned that this feature allows you to request for a vaccine appointment.

Fact #3 : It Is More Convenient Than Calling Hotline

To be clear, this is a legitimate Helpdesk option to help senior citizens age 60 years and above check for their COVID-19 vaccine appointments.

It is no different than calling the JKJAV hotline at 1800-888-828, to ask why you have not received your vaccine appointment.

Now that this new Helpdesk option has been introduced, you should definitely use it instead of calling the JKJAV hotline, which is always busy and hard to get through.

Fact #4 : This Is Not A Vaccine Registration Feature

This new Helpdesk option helps to identify senior citizens who may not have received their appointments, possibly due to these reasons :

  • not aware of where to look for vaccine appointment details
  • did not even register for COVID-19 vaccination
  • MySejahtera app cache corruption

However, it is not a replacement for the COVID-19 vaccine registration process. You cannot use this “method” to ask for a COVID-19 vaccine appointment if you have not yet registered for it.

Even with the introduction of this new Helpdesk feature, you must still register yourself for COVID-19 vaccination through these five ways :

  1. The MySejahtera app – a future update will introduce a button to register for an appointment.
  2. The Vaksin COVID website.
  3. The telephone hotline : 1800-888-828
  4. Manually at health clinics, hospitals and private clinics
  5. House-to-house registration at targeted rural areas for senior citizens.

Please make sure you register for your free COVID-19 vaccine ASAP!

PDRM Launches MyBayar Saman Portal + Mobile App!

On 25 March 2021, the Inspector-general of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador launched the MyBayar Saman portal and mobile app at the PDRM Bukit Aman headquarters.

The PDRM launched MyBayar Saman as an alternative payment option, instead of paying over-the-counter, or using private collecting agents like MyEG.

This would also save the public money as MyBayar Saman is FREE, and does not collect service charges. They can also pay their fines at their convenience, without wasting time queuing to pay.

  1. Who is allowed to register and use the MyBayar portal?
    Individual: Malaysian Citizen and Malaysian Permanent Resident (PTM) aged 18 years and above.
  2. What are the requirements for registering and using the MyBayar portal?
    Individual that are eligible must have a records or transaction within the MyBayar System.
  3. How can new users register on the MyBayar portal?
    New users can access the register button and will be direct to the user registration page to fill out all the required details in the form.
  4. What is the purpose of the user’s identity card number when registering on the MyBayar portal?
    The use of identity card numbers is an initiative towards conducting business online with the guarantee of identity verification and security of user data.
  5. What action should be taken by users who have forgotten the password of the MyBayar portal account?
    Users need to reset the password by accessing the “forgot password?” Button.
  6. After making a payment on the MyBayar portal, how long does it take for the system to update user records?
    The summons record is updated as soon as the user makes the payment.

    Do not share your account password and make sure to log out your MyBayar account after completing make transactions before visiting other websites.
  10. How do I know that my transactions have been successful?
    Once your payment is successful, you can view previous payments in payment history. You can generate and print receipt.

B. General FAQ

  1. What should I do if the traffic offense summons record with the same vehicle registration number but not my vehicle?
    The offender has to go to the traffic branch that issued the summons and subsequently lodge a complaint in the traffic section for denial. Offender need to provide information on the type of vehicle that uses the same registration number. Once the complaint is resolved, offender are advised to check any traffic branch or MyBayar portal whether the summons has been dismissed or not.
  2. What is the effect of leaving the outstanding summons?
    The effect of leaving outstanding summons can result in offenders being blacklisted and issued an arrest warrant thus resulting in users not being allowed to renew road tax and driving licenses. Users will only be removed from the list after clearing all outstanding summonses.

C. FPX FAQ

  1. Can I pay using FPX?
    Yes. You can use FPX as long as you have an active internet banking account with any of the FPX participating banks. No registration is required with FPX.
  2. What is the minimum and maximum transaction limit for FPX?
    For retail/personal banking account, the minimum limit per transaction is RM1.00 and maximum amount is limited up to RM30,000 per transaction.
    *The above limit is subject to your internet banking withdrawal limit with your bank, whichever is lower.
  3. I have made a payment using FPX, how can I know that my payment is successful?
    There are 3 methods in which you will be able to know that your FPX transaction is successful:
    • Online receipt provided by FPX.
    • Email notification sent by FPX system (provided that you have entered your email address during MyBayar
    • Saman user registration).
    • Online receipt provided by your bank.
  4. While making payment using FPX, I have received an error / unsuccessful transaction message. However, the money has been deducted from my bank account. What should I do?
    In the event that your account has been deducted but the transaction was unsuccessful for some reasons, your money will be credited back into your account by your bank. You are advised to contact your bank for the reversal status by providing the FPX Transaction ID or Merchant Order No. as a reference. You may also provide the screen shot of your payment on your mobile phone that displays the FPX Transaction ID or Merchant Order No. as a proof to facilitate the bank.
  5. PDRM claims it has not received my summon compound payment although the FPX Transaction status is successful. What should I do?
    FPX transaction status is final and the bank is obligated to update your payment in a timely manner. In this case, you should contact PDRM via mybayarsaman@rmp.gov.my e-mail to verify the status of your summon compound payment. You can provide the necessary details such as the online receipt issued by FPX/PDRM or the email notification received from FPX that contain the following details:
    • FPX Transaction ID.
    • Merchant Order No.
    • Payment amount.
    • Date and time of the payment.
  6. Can I cancel a successful FPX transaction?
    No. It is not possible to cancel a successful FPX transaction via MyBayar Saman system. However, you may request PDRM for such cancelation, subject to PDRM policy.
  7. How do I get confirmation of my compound payment with FPX?
    For the purpose of verification and further clarification of inquiries related to FPX, please contact your bank that has completed the payment of your summons compound.
  8. Is my transaction via FPX really secure?
    FPX uses high standards of authentication and certification to ensure all transactions are secure.
  9. What is availability of FPX services?
    Currently FPX service is available 24 hours daily at most of the FPX participating banks.
    *Depending on the participating banks’ internet banking service availability.
  10. Is FPX service meant for individual payment only?
    No. FPX service can support both payments by individual and corporation depending on the model subscribed by your merchant. Payment made by individual is known as Business to Consumer (B2C) model, while payment made by corporation is known as Business to Business (B2B) model.
  11. If I have a problem related to summon compound payment with PDRM, who can i contact?

  1. Can I pay for the summons online using card?
    Yes, you can make payment for the summons online using a valid debit card, credit card and prepaid card.
  2. How do I ensure that the payment transaction was successful?
    There are 3 (three) methods to check if the payment transaction was successful:
    • Transaction notification from your card issuing bank sent via short message service (SMS), email or mobile application push notification.
    • Payment receipt (online) from MyBayar Saman portal / mobile application.
    • Transaction authorisation/approval code from the card payment portal.
  3. Do I need to inform PDRM or the bank after I have successfully made payment via the MyBayar Saman portal/application?
    You do not need to contact PDRM or the bank as the payment information will be updated automatically.
  4. What types of cards are accepted for payment through MyBayar Saman portal/application?
    You can make payment with a Mastercard or Visa debit card, credit card or prepaid card.
  5. What should I do if the transaction was unsuccessful but my account balance was deducted or my credit card has been charged?
    You are advised to contact your card issuing bank to check on the payment status and inform the bank for their further action.
  6. Why am I still unable to make payment despite having tried several times?
    You are advised to contact your card issuing bank to check the status of your card/account. Common reasons for declined transactions are:
    • Insufficient balance in the savings/current account linked to the debit card or insufficient usage limit on your credit card account.
    • Your payment amount exceeds the daily spending limit set on your card.
    • The ‘card not present’ (cardless) usage function for the card has not been activated.
  7. What should I do if PDRM informs me of unpaid/unsettled summons even though the transaction status was successful?
    You may contact PDRM via email mybayarsaman@rmp.gov to confirm the summons payment by providing the required information such as the receipt issued via the MyBayar Saman portal/application.
  8. Can I request to cancel a successful debit card or credit card transaction?
    Any cancellation application must be directed to PDRM; please refer to the terms and conditions of the MyBayar Saman portal/application.
  9. Is it safe to enter my debit card or credit card information on MyBayar Saman portal/application?
    Your card information is safe as MyBayar Saman portal/application is 3-D Secure (3-domain secure) and every transaction performed requires transaction authentication by entering the “One Time Password” (“OTP”) sent to a mobile phone number or mobile application that you had registered with your card issuing bank.
  10. Who should I contact if I have a problem with a PDRM summons payment?
    For any enquiries, please email to mybayarsaman@rmp.gov.my, call the ‘Pusat Panggilan Setempat (Call Centre)’ at 603-22663346/47 or via letter to ‘Pusat Panggilan Setempat, Cawangan Pengurusan Saman, Jabatan Siasatan dan Penguatkuasaan Trafik, Ibu Pejabat Polis Diraja Malaysia, Bukit Aman 50560 Kuala Lumpur’.

You Can Now Register Your Maid For FREE COVID-19 Vaccine!

On 11 February 2021, the Malaysian government announced that the COVID-19 vaccine will be offered for FREE to all foreign residents in Malaysia.

This includes maids, domestic helpers, blue collar and white collar workers and even their spouses.

On 24 March 2021, the Malaysia Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin, confirmed that you can start registering your maid as a dependent in MySejahtera :

 

How To Register Your Maid For COVID-19 Vaccine!

Your maid is considered as a dependent, for the purpose of registering for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Here is our video guide on how to register for COVID-19 vaccination for your dependents using MySejahtera.

It’s the same process, whether you are using an Apple iPhone, or an Android smartphone.

Don’t worry about making mistakes. You can redo the registration, to correct for mistakes.

For those who prefer pictures and text, here is our step-by-step pictorial guide :

  1. Make sure you update to MySejahtera 1.0.30 or later before you proceed.
  2. Open MySejahtera.
  3. Tap on the Close button on the upper right corner of the default Check-in screen.
  4. You should see the MySejahtera main screen, and it should show you a new COVID-19 Vaccination option.

  1. Tap on the COVID-19 Vaccination option and it will show you this information display.
  2. Tap on the second option – Add Vaccine Dependent.

  1. You will be shown a screen with your registered dependents.
  2. If you did not add any dependents yet, you can do so by tapping on the Add Vaccination Dependent option at the bottom.
    Otherwise, skip to Step 12.

  1. Key in your maid’s details – Full name, Relationship with you, NRIC / Passport number, Age, Gender, Current Address and Post Code, and State.
  2. Check the details and tap Save when you are done.

  1. Your newly-added dependent will now appear in the list of dependents.

  1. Tap on the Add as vaccine dependent option of the dependent you wish to register.
  2. You will be asked to confirm that you have the authority to manage the vaccination process for your maid.
    You are also asked to note that once this maid is registered to your MySejahtera account, she cannot be registered for the COVID-19 vaccine programme with a different MySejahtera account.
  3. Tap on Yes, Proceed to proceed with the registration.

  1. You will be asked to verify your maid’s name and Passport number; as well as confirm that she is over 18 years old.
    Technically, it should state 18 years old and older, because the COVID-19 vaccine programme is open to those who are 18 years of age too.
  2. If you notice any mistake, tap Edit to change the name and IC / Passport number.
  3. Otherwise, tap the I confirm that my dependent is over 18 years old check box, and tap Submit.

  1. You will be asked to answer four simple questions, to determine whether she should be classed under Phase 2 or Phase 3 of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program, as well as your location.
  2. The address search option may not work. If that happens, tap on the Location finder to let MySejahtera use your GPS location.

  1. Please BE HONEST in this assessment. It will, after all, be verified by the Ministry of Health.When it comes to Question no. 2 – Do you have any comorbities? – that refers to any medical condition you have that may put you at greater risk of dying from COVID-19.For your reference, this includes :
    • Diabetes mellitus
    • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
    • Heart disease
    • Asthma
    • Cancer
    • Chronic lung disease
    • Kidney disease
    • Liver disease
    • Stroke
    • Low Immunity (Immunocompromised)
    • Obesity
    • Others

  1. Once you are done, tap Submit, and your dependent will have a green checkmark next to it.
  2. If you made any mistake, you can tap on Remove vaccine dependent, and begin the process all over again, from Step 12.

Then all you have to do is wait for the Malaysia Ministry of Health to contact you when it is your maid’s turn to be vaccinated against COVID-19!

Option To Register For COVID-19 Vaccination Now On MySejahtera!

On 22 February 2021, the Malaysia Ministry of Health released MySejahtera 1.0.28 for iOS and Android devices, which adds the option to register for COVID-19 vaccination.

The COVID-19 Vaccine has arrived in Malaysia! With the new vaccination module, verify your name and IC and submit the additional details to complete your registration in the app.

Be sure to enable your app’s push notification to receive the latest updates regarding the vaccination rollout, which will commence in phases:

– PHASE 1 (February – April 2021): Frontliners
– PHASE 2 (April – August 2021): Remaining healthcare workers and high risk group
– PHASE 3 (May 2021 – February 2022): Adult population >18 years

MySejahtera 1.0.29 was released on 24 February 2021, with bug fixes.

MySejahtera 1.0.30 was released on 19 March 2021, introducing the ability to register your dependents as well.

 

How To Register For COVID-19 Vaccination On MySejahtera!

  2. You can register for Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program on MySejahtera by tapping on the blue CLICK HERE link.

  1. You will be asked to answer three simple questions, to determine whether you should be classed under Phase 2 or Phase 3 of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program, as well as your location.
  2. The address search option may not work. If that happens, tap on the Location finder (circled in red) to let MySejahtera use your GPS location.

Please BE HONEST in this assessment. It will, after all, be verified by the Ministry of Health.

When it comes to Question no. 2 – Do you have any comorbities? – that refers to any medical condition you have that may put you at greater risk of dying from COVID-19.

For your reference, this includes :

  1. Tap on the COVID-19 Vaccination option and it will show you this information display.

Confirm Your COVID-19 Vaccination Registration

Don’t leave just yet. Make sure your registration was completed properly using these steps :

  1. Go back to the MySejahtera main screen, and tap on the COVID-19 Vaccination option again.

  1. In this screen, tap on the first option – Vaccine for [your name here] again.

  1. If you see this screen, then you have successfully registered for the COVID-19 vaccination program.

 

No Need To Register Again For COVID-19 Vaccination

On 3 March 2021, National Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that “there is no need to resubmit” the application.

He clarified this on 4 March 2021, stating that MySejahtera is currently updating its vaccination registration record.

So there is NO NEED to register for vaccination again, even if you do not see the vaccination status page above.

As long as you submitted your registration and saw this THANK YOU pop-up, you have successfully registered for the COVID-19 vaccination programme.

MySejahtera Adds Vaccine Registration For Dependents!

On 19 March 2021, the Malaysia Ministry of Health released MySejahtera 1.0.30 for iOS and Android devices, which adds COVID-19 vaccine registration option for dependents.

You can now register your dependents through the MySejahtera Vaccination Module!

Complete your own registration, and register your dependents who do not have their own smartphones into your app.

*Note: A dependent can only be tied to one MySejahtera account for vaccination registration purposes

However, please note that you can only register dependents who are 18 years or older for the COVID-19 vaccine programme.

Currently, vaccination is not being offered to those who are younger than 18 years of age.

 

MySejahtera : How To Register Dependents For Vaccine!

Here is our video guide on how to register for COVID-19 vaccination for your dependents using MySejahtera.

It’s the same process, whether you are using an Apple iPhone, or an Android smartphone.

Don’t worry about making mistakes. You can redo the registration, to correct for mistakes.

For those who prefer pictures and text, here is our step-by-step pictorial guide :

  1. Make sure you update to MySejahtera 1.0.30 or later before you proceed.
  2. Open MySejahtera.
  3. Tap on the Close button on the upper right corner of the default Check-in screen.
  4. You should see the MySejahtera main screen, and it should show you a new COVID-19 Vaccination option.

  1. Tap on the COVID-19 Vaccination option and it will show you this information display.
  2. Tap on the second option – Add Vaccine Dependent.

  1. You will be shown a screen with your registered dependents.
  2. If you did not add any dependents yet, you can do so by tapping on the Add Vaccination Dependent option at the bottom.
    Otherwise, skip to Step 12.

  1. Key in your dependent’s details – Full name, Relationship with you, NRIC / Passport number, Age, Gender, Current Address and Post Code, and State.
  2. Check the details and tap Save when you are done.

  1. Your newly-added dependent will now appear in the list of dependents.

  1. Tap on the Add as vaccine dependent option of the dependent you wish to register.
  2. You will be asked to confirm that you have the authority to manage the vaccination process for your dependent.
    You are also asked to note that once this dependent is registered to your MySejahtera account, he/she cannot be registered for the COVID-19 vaccine programme with a different MySejahtera account.
  3. Tap on Yes, Proceed to proceed with the registration.

  1. You will be asked to verify your dependent’s name and MyKad / Passport number; as well as confirm that he/she is over 18 years old.
    Technically, it should state 18 years old and older, because the COVID-19 vaccine programme is open to those who are 18 years of age too.
  2. If you notice any mistake, tap Edit to change the name and IC / Passport number.
  3. Otherwise, tap the I confirm that my dependent is over 18 years old check box, and tap Submit.

  1. You will be asked to answer four simple questions, to determine whether your dependent should be classed under Phase 2 or Phase 3 of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program, as well as your location.
  2. The address search option may not work. If that happens, tap on the Location finder to let MySejahtera use your GPS location.

MySejahtera : RM10K ~ RM50K Fine Can Be Appealed!

MySejahtera logging is MANDATORY, and the fine just increased to RM 10,000 for individuals and RM 50,000 for companies!

However, the government allows you to appeal for a lower fine, so make sure you do that!

MySejahtera : Mandatory, Fine Now RM10K ~ RM50K!

MySejahtera logging has been mandatory since 10 February 2021, but most people still seem unaware of this.

You can still get fined if you registered with an alternate app like Selangkah, but not MySejahtera.

On 3 March 2021, the non-compliance fine was increased, from 11 March 2021 onwards to :

The massively increased fines will definitely be a problem for many people who don’t even earn that much in 4 months!

Look at this picture of a compound that a netizen received on the very first day the fine was increased!

Apparently, this person was fined for not registering with MySejahtera, even though he registered with a different app or the manual log book.

 

MySejahtera Fine Can Be Appealed

Malaysia Senior Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob stated that the maximum fine of RM10,000 for individuals is only for “repeat and serious offenders”.

According to the Inspector General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador, the police officers do not have the power to reduce the fine. It is merely their duty to issue the compound.

However, those who receive the compound can appeal for a reduction in the fine at the nearest District Health Office.

So if you are caught not scanning the QR code using your MySejahtera app :

  • DO NOT ARGUE with the police officer.
  • Accept the compound from the police officer.
  • Head to the nearest District Health Office to appeal the fine.

Potential mitigating factors could include your economic status, a first-time offence, not owning a smartphone, poor or no Internet connectivity in that area.

DAP Selangor is also offering legal assistance, so you can give them a try too, if your appeal fails.

MySejahtera : Mandatory Since Feb 2021, Fine Originally RM1K

COVID-19 contact tracing requires timely and accurate logging of everyone’s movements, which has been accomplished by many apps and manual logbooks in Malaysia.

However, to streamline and speed up the contact tracing process, the Malaysia National Security Council (MKN) announced on 9 February 2021 that MySejahtera logging is now mandatory.

From Wednesday, 10 February 2021 onwards, everyone in Malaysia must log their movements in public areas using the MySejahtera app.

You can use other contact tracing apps as well, but only in addition to MySejahtera, which again is MANDATORY.

The use of manual logbooks is no longer allowed, except in rural areas where Internet connectivity is poor or not available.

However, the government did not detail how people who do not own a smartphone are supposed to log their visits.

The fine was originally set at RM 1,000 per person, per offence for those who failed to log their movements using MySejahtera.

The original RM 1,000 fine for not logging your movement in public places is not new. Malaysian netizens have shared videos and photos of enforcement checks for months now.

 

MySejahtera : What Is It?

MySejahtera is a mobile app developed by the Malaysian government. It serves as a contact tracing tool, as well as a way to disseminate verified information on COVID-19 in Malaysia.

Its users can log their movements by quickly and simply scanning a QR code at public places. This is a safer option to signing a logbook, because you won’t need to touch the logbook or use a shared pen.

Using MySejahtera also allows the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) to easier and faster conduct contact tracing.

Please note that EVERY PERSON – including children and domestic helpers – must be registered.

Unfortunately, the government has not stated what people should do, if they do not have a smartphone.

Please follow these steps to CHECK if your registration was successful!

  1. Go back to the MySejahtera main screen, and tap on the COVID-19 Vaccination option again.

  1. In this screen, tap on the first option – Vaccine for [your name here] again.

  1. If you see this screen, then you have successfully registered for the COVID-19 vaccination program.

 

Check, But No Need To Register Again For Vaccination

Earlier Reasons To Check + Confirm Your Registration

On 3 March 2021, MySejahtera started displaying a vaccination status page, but it only appeared for some people.

For everyone else, clicking on the Vaccine for [Your Name] link just leads them back to the registration process, instead of the status page.

They would have to go through the entire vaccination registration process again, before the status page would appear.

After they re-register for vaccination on MySejahtera, the Vaccine for [Your Name] link will then correctly show the vaccination status page.

Without accessing this status page, how will people find out when their first and second dose appointments will be?

There was also concern when users noticed that MySejahtera was showing a new registration date, instead of the original registration date.

Fat Bidin : MySejahtera Is Mining Information From Our Phones!

In Episode 41 of Fat Bidin Knows Everything, Wan Azlee claimed (between mouthfuls of oats) that MySejahtera is mining a wealth of private information from our phones.

His evidence? A report by the Exodus Privacy website, stating that MySejahtera has 6 trackers and 24 permissions.

He went through the 24 permissions and made these concerning observations about MySejahtera :

  • it can take control of your phone and pair it with your Bluetooth devices
  • directly call phone numbers
  • find accounts on your phone
  • read your contacts in your phone
  • read the contents of your SD card
  • modify or delete the contents of your SD card
  • prevent your phone from sleeping
  • modify your contacts

Phwoarrrr…. shocking, isn’t it? Wan Azlee / Fat Bidin then asks the Malaysia Ministry of Health to be transparent and tell us what’s going on.

Well, let’s take a closer look at his claims…

 

Fat Bidin On MySejahtera Is Mining Our Information : A Fact Check

Wan Azlee is very articulate, but Fat Bidin honestly doesn’t quite know everything… and here’s why.

Fact #1 : That MySejahtera Version Was From April 2020

Fat Bidin posted his video on 24 November 2020, and we noticed that he was checking an old version of MySejahtera – version 1.0.10, that was posted way back in April 2020.

For the record, there has been FOURTEEN UPDATES since that version :

  • 1.0.11 : 23 April 2020
  • 1.0.12 : 28 April 2020
  • 1.0.13 : 3 May 2020
  • 1.0.15 : 4 May 2020
  • 1.0.16 : 13 May 2020
  • 1.0.17 : 23 May 2020
  • 1.0.18 : 30 May 2020
  • 1.0.19 : 3 June 2020
  • 1.0.20 : 28 June 2020
  • 1.0.21 : 30 June 2020
  • 1.0.22 : 21 July 2020
  • 1.0.23 : 29 July 2020
  • 1.0.24 : 11 August 2020
  • 1.0.25 : 5 November 2020

The latest version of MySejahtera – version 1.0.25 –  was released on 5 November 2020 – 19 days before Wan Azlee posted his video.

Why on Earth would he focus on a 6 month-old version of the app, when there is a much newer version?

Fact #2 : Exodus Posted Their Latest MySejahtera Report On 20 November 2020

Exodus posted their latest report on the latest version of MySejahtera (version 1.0.25) on 20 November 2020 at 10:47 am (as you can see in this screenshot).

That was 4 days before Wan Azlee posted his video, so why didn’t he use this new report instead?

Fact #3 : MySejahtera Has 1 Tracker + 14 Permissions According To Exodus

According to the November 20 Exodus report, MySejahtera has 1 tracker – Google Firebase Analytics, and 14 permissions, of which the highlighted ones were :

  • ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION : access approximate location (network-based)
  • ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION : access precise location (GPS and network-based)
  • CALL_PHONE : directly call phone numbers
  • CAMERA : take pictures and videos
  • READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE : read the contents of your SD card
  • WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE : modify or delete the contents of your SD card

We immediately noticed that several controversial permissions are no longer in it :

  • GET_ACCOUNTS : find accounts on the device
  • READ_CONTACTS : read your contacts
  • WRITE_CONTACTS : modify your contacts

So if you are worried that MySejahtera is reading your contacts or modifying them, just UPDATE it to the latest version 1.0.25!

Fact #4 : Actual Permissions Are Fewer

When we checked MySejahtera 1.0.25 as installed in our phone, we found that it actually asked for and used only 11 permissions, instead of 14 as reported by Exodus.

The report also offered a bit more context about those permissions. For instance, location data is only made available when you are actively using the app.

That’s because the location data is used by MySejahtera for its Hotspot Tracker and Locate Health Screening Facility features.

In your phone, you can tap on them for more information on what they allow the app to do.

Fact #5 : Apps Need To Read, Modify + Delete Their Own Data

The permission to read, modify and delete content on our phone may seem ridiculous, but it is a necessity for most apps.

Unless the apps is merely a container for a website or web service, it needs to store data, and modify or delete it when necessary.

Fact #6 : Access To External / SD Card Is Necessary

Most developers will also ask for the permission to read, modify and delete content to the (micro) SD card, because of Adoptable Storage.

Adoptable Storage is a feature that lets smartphones use external storage (like a microSD card) as if it is part of their internal storage.

When a microSD card is used this way, apps like MySejahtera can be installed on it. Therefore, it would require permission to read, modify and delete its own data on the external storage card.

Fact #7 : Android Restricts Data Snooping

Apps that have access to read / modify / write external storage are allowed to access files from other apps. However, this is limited to only these three media collections :

  • MediaStore.Images
  • MediaStore.Video
  • MediaStore.Audio

MySejahtera, or any other app with similar permissions, cannot read / modify / delete data outside of those three media storage locations.

Fact #8 : MySejahtera Has A Privacy Policy

Like all other Android and iOS apps, MySejahtera has a privacy policy, where it is stated clearly that

MySejahtera is owned and operated by the Government of Malaysia. It is administrated by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and assisted by the National Security Council (NSC) and the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU). The Government assures that the collection of your personal information is align with Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Act 709).

The app will not record user’s Personal Data except with the permission and voluntarily provided by the user. Information collected are used for monitoring and enforcement purposes by Government authorities in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. This information is not shared with other organizations for other purposes unless specifically stated.

Fact #9 : You Are Protected By PDPA 2010 (Act 709)

We are all protected by the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Act 709).

Anyone who is caught sharing our personal data without permission is be liable to a fine not exceeding three hundred thousand ringgit or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to both.

Fact #10 : You Can Disable Permissions

You can view and disable any permission that worries you :

Android

  1. Go to Settings > Apps >  MySejahtera > Permissions.
  2. Tap on the permission you don’t want, and select Deny.

Apple iOS

  1. Go to Settings > MySejahtera.
  2. Disable the permissions you don’t want.

But note that doing this will likely break some features in MySejahtera.

While CPRC (Crisis Preparedness and Respose Centre) from the Ministry of Health has said that it is not necessary to scan MySejahtera at petrol stations, the police insist that it is mandatory.

In fact, Bukit Aman CID Deputy Director DCP Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed that you must register MySejahtera at the petrol station, even if you do not enter the convenience store!

Malaysians were thoroughly confused by two competing narratives, and a slew of news reports that flip-flopped on the issue.

 

Latest MySejahtera SOP For Petrol Stations : To Scan Or Not?

At around 6 PM on 10 November 2020, Senior Minister for Security Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri, issued an updated SOP on the use of MySejahtera in petrol stations in this press conference.

Scan MySejahtera At Petrol Station, Or Get Fined RM1K?

CPRC says it’s not mandatory, but PDRM says you can be fined RM1,000 for failing to register MySejahtera at the petrol station!

So which is it? After flip-flopping, they finally clarified their stance… hopefully, for the LAST TIME!

 

Register MySejahtera At Petrol Station, Or Get Fined RM1K?

According to PDRM, you must register MySejahtera at the petrol station, even if you do not enter the convenience store! Otherwise, you could be subject to a RM1,000 fine!

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director DCP Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed this, saying “If the people do not register or scan, how will the police trace them if there are Covid-19 cases in the area?

As petrol stations are high-traffic public spaces, it is mandatory to register your visit using MySejahtera, as well as wear a face mask have your temperature scanned, and use a hand sanitiser.

However, it appears that petrol station operators may not be aware of this requirement either, as they do not put up MySejahtera QR codes at their pumps for motorists to register their visits…

 

But Didn’t CPRC Say MySejahtera Not Necessary At Petrol Station?

This email shows the CPRC (Crisis Preparedness and Respose Centre) team saying that it is NOT necessary to register your visit using MySejahtera if you are merely refuelling at the pump or making payments.

Sadly, it appears that CPRC and PDRM are not on the same page. CPRC says it’s not necessary, but PDRM insists it is mandatory.

MySejahtera is a mobile app developed by the Malaysian government. It serves as a contact tracing tool, as well as a way to disseminate verified information on COVID-19 in Malaysia.

With the number of COVID-19 cases rising in Malaysia, here’s a timely reminder – register yourself at all public places using MySejahtera or the logbook, or get fined RM1,000!

Malaysia has so far weathered the COVID-19 pandemic with relatively few cases, thanks to a relative strict Movement Control Order, and a mandatory requirement to wear a face mask in public from 1 August 2020 onwards.

But with the surging number of new cases, the Malaysian government appears to be ramping up enforcement checks on businesses.

Malaysian netizens have shared videos and photos of recent enforcement checks, where those who did not register themselves either using the MySejahtera app or a logbook were fined RM1,000 per person!

MySejahtera / Logbook : What’s The SOP?

On 4 October 2020, the Malaysia Ministry of Health issued another reminder on the mandatory registration SOP using MySejahtera or a logbook.

Please note that EVERY PERSON – including children and domestic helpers – must be registered. If they do not have a smartphone, they must register using the logbook.

Also, if you are registering yourself using the physical logbook, please write in your FULL NAME and telephone number. You can be fined if you write in only your first name.

Premise Owner

  • Make sure visitors undergo temperature screening and scan the QR code using MySejahtera
  • In the event you do not have a QR code, make sure visitors record their particulars in a logbook
  • Make sure visitors with symptoms or high risk status are not allowed into your premise

Members Of The Public

  • Make sure you perform temperature screening and scan the QR code using the MySejahtera app, or record your details in the logbook, every time you enter a premise.
  • Perform a risk analysis from time to time.

Those who fail to register themselves at public premises risk being fined RM1,000 per person, per offence.

The Malaysia Ministry of Health has proposed that this fine be increased to RM10,000. The proposal was submitted to the Malaysian Parliament in August 2020, but has yet to be approved.
