2021 Acer Nitro 5 : Ryzen 9 + RTX 3080 FTW!

The 2021 Acer Nitro 5 just got a MASSIVE upgrade! You can now opt for the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX mobile processor, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics!

It even comes with two DDR4-3200 slots with up to 32 GB memory, and two M.2 slots of PCIe NVMe SSDs! On top of that, it comes with Wi-Fi 6 and Killer Ethernet E2600 connectivity built-in.

The 2021 Nitro 5 boasts a 15.6-inch IPS display with a 165 Hz refresh rate with a QHD resolution, or a stupendously fast 360 Hz refresh rate with a FHD resolution. Both options offer a 3 ms response time for minimal ghosting.

To ensure the 2021 Nitro 5 can withstand even the most intense gaming sessions, it features a revamped thermal system with dual fans and four exhaust fans. On top of that, Acer CoolBoost and NitroSense lets you monitor fan speed, and increase it when you need that extra performance.

It also comes with a multitude of ports – a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port with power off charging capability, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, and HDMI 2.1 port and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

GeForce RTX 30 Gaming Laptops : Ampere Goes Mobile!

At CES 2021, NVIDIA announced the coming availability of Ampere-based GeForce RTX 30 series gaming laptops!

Starting 26 January 2021, NVIDIA partner brands like MSI will begin shipping RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 gaming laptops, followed by RTX 3060 gaming laptops from 2 February 2021 onwards.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series mobile GPUs are built on the NVIDIA Ampere architecture, giving them 2nd Gen Ray Tracing cores and 3rd Gen Tensor Cores.

  • New Streaming Multiprocessors : Delivering 2X the FP32 performance of NVIDIA Turing, and 30 Shader-TFLOPS of processing power
  • 2nd Gen RT Cores : Delivering 2X the performance of NVIDIA Turing, plus concurrent ray tracing and compute, with 58 RT-TFLOPS of processing power.
  • 3rd Gen Tensor Cores : Up to 2X the performance of NVIDIA Turing, with 238 Tensor-TFLOPS of processing power.

  • NVIDIA RTX IO : Enables rapid GPU-based loading and game asset decompression, accelerating I/O performance by up to 100X. When used in conjunction with Microsoft DirectStorage API, it offloads the work to the RTX GPU, improving frame rates and enabling near-instantaneous game loading.
  • GDDR6X Memory : Delivers close to 1 TB/s of memory bandwidth, improving gaming performance.

GeForce RTX 30 Series Gaming Laptops : Ampere Goes Mobile!

Just 4 months after launching Ampere for desktop gaming, NVIDIA is bringing it to laptops.

At CES 2021, they announced the coming availability of Ampere-based GeForce RTX 30 series gaming laptops!

Starting 26 January 2021, NVIDIA partner brands will begin shipping RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 gaming laptops, followed by RTX 3060 gaming laptops from 2 February 2021 onwards.

They will also come with WhisperMode 2.0 – which was reengineered to dynamically manage the GPU, CPU, game settings and fan speeds to reduce fan acoustics while maintaining gaming performance.

Finally, NVIDIA will introduce Resizable BAR support in these RTX 30 gaming laptops via a driver update later.

2nd Gen NVIDIA Max-Q Technology : What’s New?

NVIDIA Max-Q Technology : What Is It?

NVIDIA Max-Q Technology was first introduced at Computex 2017, and based on the NASA term, which refers to “the point at which aerodynamic stress on a vehicle in atmospheric flight is maximized“.

NVIDIA Max-Q uses a similar philosophy to design gaming laptops that are 3X thinner, with up to 3X more performance (compared to the previous-generation NVIDIA Maxwell GPUs).

So what exactly is the NVIDIA Max-Q design, and how does it work? Gaurav Agarwal, NVIDIA Product Marketing Manager, explains it all in this tech briefing.

 

2nd Gen NVIDIA Max-Q Technology : What’s New?

When NVIDIA announced 100 new laptop designs, including GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER gaming laptops, they also revealed details of the 2nd Gen Max-Q technology.

They basically added a bunch of new Max-Q technologies, which they promise will double efficiency over previous designs :

These are the new Max-Q technologies that will be included in all new 2020 GeForce RTX SUPER, GeForce RTX and GeForce GTX gaming laptops :

Dynamic Boost

Dynamic Boost Intelligently and automatically balances power between the GPU and CPU on a per-frame basis, boosting overall in-game performance.

Dynamic Boost is automatic, adaptive and always working to deliver more performance without increasing system power consumption.

Low-Voltage GDDR6

While not a technology unique to NVIDIA, NVIDIA say that they worked with their memory partners to increase memory efficiency, while delivering high performance with new lower voltage GDDR6 memory.

Advanced Optimus

Advanced Optimus controls which GPU is driving the display and intelligently determines the right GPU for the right workload at the right time, dynamically switching on the fly without needing a system reboot.

NVIDIA claims it will deliver long battery life and immersive, stutter-free gameplay with NVIDIA G-SYNC technology.

Next-Generation Regulator Efficiency

The 2nd Gen Max-Q designs will feature next-generation voltage regulators that will help optimise system design, so that the GPU will run more efficiently while delivering higher overall performance.

Deep Learning Super Sampling 2.0

Powered by the Tensor Cores in RTX GPUs, DLSS 2.0 is an improved deep learning neural network that boosts frame rates while generating beautiful, sharp images for games.

NVIDIA claims it will boost a game’s performance headroom while maximizing ray-tracing settings with increased output resolution and extending battery life by up to 20 percent.

 

2nd Gen NVIDIA Max-Q : Double Efficiency = Double Performance?

When NVIDIA says NVIDIA Max-Q will double efficiency, it is based on two caveats.

  • They are referring specifically to GRAPHICS performance.
  • On top of that, the additional efficiency is partly based on DLSS 2.0.

In the ideal scenario where you use a 2nd Gen Max-Q laptop with a game that supports DLSS 2.0, you should see almost a doubling of gaming performance.

Real world performance advantage from the 2nd Gen Max-Q technology will certainly be far, far less than that.

After all, how many games do you know support DLSS? And it will take time for DLSS 2.0 to be introduced.

That said, even a 25%-33% boost in efficiency would offer a nice upgrade over the last generation.

Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, NVIDIA is introducing over 100 laptop designs from every major OEM out there, offering both GeForce GTX graphics starting at $699, and GeForce RTX graphics starting at $999.

In light of the new trend of working from home, NVIDIA is pushing the tagline – Worker By Day, Warrior By Night.

The new GeForce RTX and GeForce GTX gaming laptops will be available worldwide starting in the week of April 15, with more in May 2020.

 

NVIDIA GeForce RTX SUPER Gaming Laptops Unleashed!

In addition to new GeForce RTX and GeForce GTX gaming laptops, NVIDIA is also introducing new GeForce RTX SUPER gaming laptops for the first time.

With RTX 2080 SUPER and RTX 2070 SUPER options, they promise to deliver up to 25% faster gaming performance than the original GeForce RTX 20-series GPUs. This is what the new line-up looks like :

NVIDIA today officially unveiled two new GeForce GTX 16 series GPUs for laptops – the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, and the GeForce GTX 1650.

In addition, they announced the immediate availability of more than 80 gaming laptops that will feature one of the two GeForce GTX 16 series GPUs!

Acer just unveiled the 2019 Predator Helios 700 gaming laptop, with a unique HyperDrift keyboard! Here’s a quick primer on the latest iteration of the Acer Predator Helios 700 gaming laptop!

 

The 2019 Predator Helios 700 Adds HyperDrift Keyboard!

The newly-refreshed 2019 Predator Helios 700 gaming laptop has a slew of new CPUs and GPUs to choose from, including the new 9th Gen Intel Core i9 and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 or RTX 2070.

It also comes with up to 64 GB of DDR4 memory, and Killer DoubleShot Pro wired and Killer Wi-Fi 6 wireless connectivity.

All that power is convey to the gamer through a large 17-inch Full HD IPS display with 144 Hz refresh rate, 3 ms response time and NVIDIA G-SYNC support.

HyperDrift Keyboard

The most unique thing about the 2019 Predator Helios 700 is the new HyperDrift keyboard. Designed as part of the new Helios 700’s thermal architecture, it slides forward to uncover two additional air intakes for maximum cooling performance.

Sliding the HyperDrift keyboard forward also improves ergonomics – the keyboard is now closer to the gamer. On top of that – its MagForce keys use linear switches that triggers on the initial press, and increase up to 100 percent for more precise control.

It also has two hotkeys – Turbo to quickly engage overclocking, and PredatorSense to immediately access CPU + GPU temperatures, fan controls, RGB lighting and more.

4th Gen AeroBlade 3D Fans

The new Predator Helios 700 also comes with an improved cooling system. It not only leverages the HyperDrift keyboard for more airflow, it also comes with two 4th Gen AeroBlade 3D fans, five copper heat pipes, and the Acer CoolBoost Technology.

The new 4th Gen AeroBlade 3D fans have new 0.1 mm fan blades with a serrated edge, winglets along the top and bottom, as well as a curved fin along the inner portion of each blade. Acer claims this increases airflow by up to 45%!

The Dell G7 and G5 gaming laptops are designed to offer an affordable alternative to the premium Alienware gaming laptops. The 2018 Dell G7 15 (7588) gaming laptop we reviewed was certainly impressive in its own right.

The 17-inch 2019 Dell G7 17 Gaming Laptop

The 2019 Dell G7 and G5 gaming laptops will be upgraded with the latest 8th Generation Intel CFL-H quad– and hexa-core processors, and new NVIDIA graphics. They will also offer optional GSYNC support and 144 Hz display panel

For the first time, the new 2019 Dell G7 and G5 gaming laptops will come with Alienware Command Center pre-installed, and a keyboard with customisable 4-zone RGB backlighting.

Dell is also introducing the 2019 Dell G5 15 Special Edition in the Alpine White colour. It has a clear panel at the bottom, to show off the blue fans of its cooling system!

  • CPU, RAM and GPU overclocking will now work together, in conjunction with system temperatures
