The Fujifilm GFX 50S Mirrorless Camera Revealed!

Fujifilm officially announced the availability of the Fujifilm GFX 50S medium format mirrorless camera. The Fujifilm GFX 50S is based on their existing Fujifilm X Series, but uses a large medium format (43.8 x 32.9 mm) sensor instead of an APS-C sensor. It also uses the new Fujifilm G mount.

Fujifilm also introduced the first slew of FUJINON GF lenses for the new G mount – the FUJINON GF63mmF2.8 R WR, the FUJINON GF32-64mmF4 R LM WR and the FUJINON GF120mmF4 R LM OIS WR Macro. Let’s check them out!

Fujifilm GFX 50S Tech Briefing By Makoto Oishi

To introduce the new Fujifilm GFX 50S medium format mirrorless camera, Makoto Oishi, the Product Planning Manager of the Fujifilm Optical Device & Electronic Imaging Products Division, flew in all the w ay from Tokyo to give a presentation on its key features.

Here is a selection of its key features :

Medium Format Sensor – 1.7X The Size Of Full Frame Sensors

The Fujifilm GFX 50S has a 51.4 MP medium format sensor measuring 43.8 mm x 32.9 mm. The medium format sensor is 70% larger than full frame 35 mm sensors. The size of the sensor is not its only virtue though.

Both the shape of the light-gathering micro-lenses and the processing from the photodiodes have been customized to achieve a high level of sharpness and broad dynamic range.

X Processor Pro Image Processing Engine

The Fujifilm GFX 50S uses the same X Processor Pro image processing engine used in the Fujifilm X-Pro2 and Fujifilm X-T2 cameras, delivering the same Film Simulation color reproduction. The Movie function supports Full HD recording at 30p, with no post-processing by using the Film Simulation modes.

Compact Magnesium Alloy Body

The body of the Fujifilm GFX 50S weighs 920 g. When paired with the GF63mmF2.8 R WR, it weighs 1,230 g. That sounds heavy, but it’s approximately 40% lighter than a medium format DSLR camera! In fact, it weighs about the same as a full-frame DSLR camera.

High Resolution Viewfinder & Touchscreen Display

The Fujifilm GFX 50S has a detachable 3.69 MP electronic viewfinder, that can be tilted to 90° when shooting horizontal landscapes and ±45° when shooting in the portrait position, when used with the separately sold EVF-TL1 EVF tilt adapter. It also has a 3.2″ touch display panel with 2.36 million pixels that can be tilted 225°.

New Large Diameter G Mount

The new G mount used by the Fujifilm GFX 50S has a short flange back mount with a large diameter of 65 mm and a flange back of 26.7 mm. This design improves the optical design of the lenses, greatly contributing to higher image quality and the miniaturization of the body.

New FUJINON Lenses

The new FUJINON GF lens series are specifically designed for the new G mount, and have the resolving power capable of supporting a 100 MP sensor. Their lens barrel also features an aperture ring similar to that of the FUJINON XF lenses.

A new C (Command) Position has been added to the aperture ring. It allows users to change the aperture using the command dial on the camera’s body. In order to prevent incorrect operation, the A (Auto) Position and the C Position feature a locking button on the aperture ring that must be disabled to implement changes.

Fujifilm X-T2 Mirrorless Camera Hands-On Preview

The new Fujifilm X-T2 mirrorless camera houses the latest generation 24.3MP X-Trans CMOS III APS-C sensor with no low-pass filter, boasting the highest performance in the history of X Series. This allows it to produce crisp image resolution comparable to that of cameras equipped with larger sensors and higher pixel counts, all in a more compact and classically-designed body.

The Fujifilm X-T2’s compact and lightweight camera body is also dust-resistant, water-resistant and capable of operating at temperatures as low as -10°C. Its autofocus and electronic viewfinder performance have both been substantially improved, making it more adaptable than ever before at shooting a moving subject under difficult conditions, such as sports or wildlife photography, which had previously been considered difficult with mirrorless cameras.

For the first time in the X Series, the Fujifilm X-T2 supports 4K video recording. The Film Simulation modes, used for still images, can also be applied to video to easily produce premium-quality footage.

instax SHARE SP-2 Mobile Printer Hands-On Preview

The new instax SHARE SP-2 is a smartphone printer which can print high-quality credit-card sized instant photos from smartphones in just 10 seconds.

A higher image resolution and contrast are achieved with the adoption of a new exposure system. Also, the printing time has been shortened by combining the exposure and film output processes. When users send an image to the instax SHARE SP-2 via wireless LAN, they can get photos in just 10 seconds.

In addition, new filters and templates have been added to the creative experience of the free instax SHARE app. Using the Custom filter, the brightness, contrast and saturation of the image can be adjusted. With the Collage template, two to four images can be combined into one instax photo and with the Split template, one image can be split into two instax photos.

Fujifilm X-T2 Mirrorless Camera & Instax SP-2 Mobile Printer Launched

On the 18th of August, 2016, Fujifilm revealed two new photographic devices – the Fujifilm X-T2 mirrorless camera, and the Instax SP-2 mobile printer. The launch also kicked off the Fujifilm Shoot.Print.Share Fiesta at the Berjaya Times Square that will run from the 18th until the 21st of August.

In this video, Fujifilm Malaysia’s Senior Marketing Manager, Mr. Kelvin Ooi, highlighted the key features of the new Fujifilm X-T2 mirrorless camera, and the new Instax SP-2 mobile printer.

Fujifilm X-T2 Mirrorless Camera

The Fujifilm X-T2 is a speedy upgrade to the X-T1, which Fujifilm describes as “Creative Perfection” that uses advanced technologies to achieve premium image quality, outstanding operability and beautiful design reminiscent of traditional cameras.

The X-T2 houses the latest generation 24.3MP X-Trans CMOS III APS-C sensor with no low-pass filter, boasting the highest performance in the history of X Series. This allows it to produce crisp image resolution comparable to that of cameras equipped with larger sensors and higher pixel counts, all in a more compact and classically-designed body.

And for the first time, the new Fujifilm X-T2 now supports 4K video recording that can use each available Film Simulation mode, including ACROS, to easily produce premium-quality footage that is as unique as the photographer behind the viewfinder.
