Truth : Pope Francis Did Not Announce Vatican – Freemasonry Collaboration!

This is yet another example of fake news created / promoted by The People’s Voice, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : Pope Francis Did Not Announce Collaboration With Freemasonry

Let me start by pointing out that Pope Francis did not announce any collaboration with the Freemasonry. There was no such announcement by the Vatican, nor the Pope on his official Twitter and Instagram accounts.

The People’s Voice article, unsurprisingly, offered no evidence to back up its “fact checked” claims that Pope Francis announced that the Vatican is now collaborating with the Freemasonry.

Fact #2 : Only One Cardinal Called For Dialogue With Freemasons

The crux of this bizarre claim is merely based on a single closed-door meeting in Milan between Cardinal Francesco Coccopalmerio (wrongly spelled as Coccopalmiero in the article), and the heads of Italy’s Freemasonic lodges.

In that meeting on the history of relations between the Catholic Church and the Freemasonry, Coccopalmerio said that he believed “an evolution in mutual understanding” had taken place between the Catholic Church and Freemasonry over the past 50 years, and that he hoped “these meetings don’t stop there”.

Fact #3 : Pope Francis Earlier Confirmed Masonic Ban

Pope Francis made his opinions of Freemasonry quite clear just a few months ago, when the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith issued a document on the Catholic Church’s continued ban of Freemasonry on 13 November 2023.

The note, which was signed by its Prefect, Cardinal Victor Fernandez, and approved by Pope Francis (source), reaffirmed that Catholics are forbidden from joining the Freemasonry.

… active membership in Freemasonry by a member of the faithful is prohibited, because of the irreconcilability between Catholic doctrine and Freemasonry, and the Guidelines published by the Bishops’ Conference in 2003.

… those who formally and knowingly are members of Masonic lodges and have embraced Masonic principles fall under the provisions of the above-mentioned Declaration. These measures also apply to any clerics enrolled in Freemasonry.

To be clear – Freemasonry is still banned by Pope Francis and the Vatican.

Fact #4 : Freemasons Wants Excommunication To Be Lifted

Francesco Coccopalmerio is the first Cardinal to call for continued dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Freemasons. However, that does not mean it is now official Vatican policy, nor does it mean there will actually be additional meetings between the Catholic Church and the Freemasonry.

But what is clear from that Milan meeting is that the Freemasonry would like the Catholic Church to allow Freemasons to be freely admitted to the church. This was clearly stated in the National Catholic Register article referred by the The People’s Voice article, so it is odd why it would claim that the Vatican would collaborate with Freemasonry.

The Freemasons are not asking to “collaborate” with the Vatican, only to allow its members to become Catholics, and that Catholics be allowed to join the Freemasonry.

Fact #5 : Freemasonry Isn’t A Religion

The People’s Voice article calls Freemasonry “the world’s oldest secret religion”. Well, it is a secret society, but it is definitely not a religion.

Freemasonry is not only generally open to people of all religions, it actually forbids discussion of religion with its lodges. Freemasonry official adheres to this principle:

Freemasonry is not a religion, nor a substitute for religion. There is no separate ‘Masonic deity,’ and there is no separate proper name for a deity in Freemasonry.

Needless to say – there is no evidence that Freemasonry is tied to Satanism, as Lucifer only exists in the Abrahamic religions, and Freemasons have diverse religions.

Fact #5 : The People’s Voice Is Known For Fake News

The People’s Voice is the current name for NewsPunch, which possibly changed its name because its brand has been so thoroughly discredited after posting numerous shocking but fake stories.

Founded as Your News Wire in 2014, it was rebranded as NewsPunch in November 2018, before becoming The People’s Voice. A 2017 BuzzFeed report identified NewsPunch as the second-largest source of popular fake news on Facebook that year.

Its articles have been regularly debunked as fake news, so you should never share anything from NewsPunch / The People’s Voice.  Here are some of its fake stories that I fact checked earlier:
