Watch AMD Radeon ProRender 2.0 Render Mercedes-AMG F1 Car!

The 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marked the end of the 2020 Formula One season, and the first year of the AMD partnership with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.

To showcase that relationship, AMD worked with the team, and The Pixelary to create a series of 3D renders of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance car.

When the new Radeon ProRender 2.0 was released, they rendered them again using the new Radeon RX 6900 XT, and discovered that it cut their rendering time by half!

Mike Pan of The Pixelary explained how much faster the new combination proved to be :

In some tests performed by AMD, when using the “Full” Radeon ProRender 2.0 render quality mode with the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card that supports hardware ray tracing, the image above rendered in 516 sec, compared to 1065 sec when rendered with the AMD Radeon VII graphics card that does not support hardware ray tracing.

That is up to a 2.1x reduction in render time [3], which is quite an improvement! On top of that, Radeon ProRender 2.0 also has improved multi-GPU scaling so if we were able to render the same image with two Radeon RX 6900 XT’s, the render times would improve even more.

2019 F1 Esports Season Hits Record 5.8 Million Views!

Formula 1 just announced a record 5.8 million views for the 2019 F1 Esports Series – a 76% increase over 2018!

Find out what other milestones they broke in 2019, and don’t miss the video wrap up for the 2019 F1 Esports Series!

2019 F1 Esports Season Hits Record 5.8 Million Views!

In addition to hitting 5.8 million online views, the 2019 F1 Esports Series also recorded no less than 169 million social media impressions – 66% better than in 2018!

Interestingly, the 5.8 million online views surpassed the 2018 Series’ combined online + TV viewership of 5.5 million.

This suggests that Formula 1 has gained significant traction in the e-racing wave, reaching younger and more digitally-minded audience. In fact, they revealed that 79% of viewers were below the age of 34 years old!

Formula 1 also noted that there was a record-breaking 109,000 players this season, who attempted over 1.4 million laps to qualify. This represented a massive 65% increase in participation, and a 40% increase in lap numbers over 2018.

Key News From The 2019 F1 Esports Season

The biggest news is, no doubt, the crowning of David Tonizza as the 2019 Drivers’ Champion. He was, notably, the first pick from the 2019 Pro Draft, as well as the first ever esports driver for the Ferrari Driver Academy Hublot Esports Team.

The 2019 F1 Esports season also had Red Bull Racing Esports securing the first Team’s Championship title, fighting off fence competition from the Ferrari Driver Academy Hublot Esports Team, the Alfa Romeo Racing F1 Esports Team and the Renault Sport Team Vitality.

In all, Red Bull Racing Esports had 9 podium finishes, with 3 wins, across the 12 race season.

This was the first year all ten official Formula 1 Esports teams participated, with Ferrari entering for the first time. Formula 1 also doubled the cash prize fund for 2019 – to a whopping $500,000!

F1 Esports To Head To China!

Formula 1 confirmed that they will launch the F1 Esports Series China Championship in partnership with Juss Intellisports.

The champion and runner-up of the China Championship will ear final spots in the 20202 F1 Esports Series Pro Draft, with the chance to compete for a seat with one of the official F1 Esports team!

An Evening With Scuderia Toro Rosso & Acronis

On the cusp of the last Malaysian F1 Grand Prix, we were invited to an evening with Scuderia Toro Rosso and Acronis. It was an opportunity for them to present Acronis Access Advanced 8.0 – an enterprise file sync and share solution that is used to share sensitive data with remote devices.

Scuderia Toro Rosso & Acronis

Acronis is no stranger to the automotive industry. In fact, 30% of their new enterprise customers are automative companies. Hence, it is no surprise that they chose to sponsor Scuderia Toro Rosso since August 2016. Not only does this give them greater exposure in the automotive industry, it helps them to entrench their expertise in this field.

Formula One teams like Scuderia Toro Rosso produces hundreds of gigabytes of data every race weekend, because each car has hundreds of sensors. The data they relay provide real-time information that is immediately analysed to improve performance. All of the data collected is then transmitted to their base in Faenza, Italy, where they are used to create a better car, or a better strategy for the next race.

Acronis protects all that sensitive data with their hybrid cloud data protection solutions, including the new Acronis Access Advanced 8.0. They use Acronis Access Advanced, specifically, to share confidential telemetry data and R&D documents between their Faenza base, trackside engineers and subcontractors.

With Acronis Access Advanced, we’re in full control of our data. We can track the information path and even remote-wipe a laptop, tablet or mobile device if it is lost or stolen to prevent a competitor from accessing the data. Our plan is to share sensitive data that way,” said Raffaele Boschetti, Scuderia Toro Rosso Head of IT.

Acronis took the opportunity to report that in the last year, their business grew by 25% for Acronis Backup, 20% for Acronis True Image, 100% for Acronis Backup Cloud and 200% for Acronis Access Advanced.

The Scuderia Toro Rosso Interview

This interview happened right after the sudden replacement of Daniil Kvyat by Pierre Gasly for a multi-race evaluation, starting with the final Malaysian F1 Grand Prix race. So this is literally the first interview of team principal, Franz Tost, with Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly.

Speed Painting With Haze Long!

In the spirit of the F1 race coming up, Acronis organised a speed painting session. Carlos and Pierre were invited to paint the Sepang circuit in 1 minute 34 seconds.

Then Malaysian speed painter Haze Long demonstrated her speed painting skills. Check it out!
