  • specially-equipped Aston Martin Vantage as safety car
  • Aston Martin DBX as medical car

They will both feature the 2021 Aston Martin Racing Green livery, with Lime Green accents, to celebrate the marque’s return to F1 after more than 60 years!

Aston Martin, Mercedes-AMG To Alternate F1 Safety + Medical Cars

From the 2021 F1 World Championship onwards, Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG will alternately supply the safety and medical cars – the first time in 25 years that different manufacturers have supplied these vehicles.

Mercedes-AMG, who have supplied the official F1 safety and medical cars since 1996 will continue to run their Mercedes-AMG GT R and Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Estate vehicles as safety and medical cars, with new bright red paintwork for 2021.

The Aston Martin safety and medical cars will make their debut in Sakhir at the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2021 on 28 March 2021.

You can catch the refreshed Mercedes-AMG safety vehicles at the Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio Del Made In Italy E Dell’Emilia Romagna 2021 in Imola on 18 April 2021.

Germany’s Bernd Mayländer will drive the FIA Safety Car, while South African Alan van der Merwe will be at the wheel of the FIA Medical Car, at each Grand Prix.

AMD partnered with The Pixelary to create a series of awesome 3D rendered images of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance car.

Watch AMD Radeon ProRender 2.0 Render Mercedes-AMG F1 Car!

The 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marked the end of the 2020 Formula One season, and the first year of the AMD partnership with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.

To showcase that relationship, AMD worked with the team, and The Pixelary to create a series of 3D renders of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance car.

When the new Radeon ProRender 2.0 was released, they rendered them again using the new Radeon RX 6900 XT, and discovered that it cut their rendering time by half!

Mike Pan of The Pixelary explained how much faster the new combination proved to be :

In some tests performed by AMD, when using the “Full” Radeon ProRender 2.0 render quality mode with the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card that supports hardware ray tracing, the image above rendered in 516 sec, compared to 1065 sec when rendered with the AMD Radeon VII graphics card that does not support hardware ray tracing.

That is up to a 2.1x reduction in render time [3], which is quite an improvement! On top of that, Radeon ProRender 2.0 also has improved multi-GPU scaling so if we were able to render the same image with two Radeon RX 6900 XT’s, the render times would improve even more.

Lewis Hamilton : Positive For COVID-19, Out Of Sakhir GP! 😱

Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton just tested positive for COVID-19, and will have to drop out of the Sakhir Grand Prix this weekend! 😱

Lewis Hamilton : Positive For COVID-19, Out Of Sakhir GP!

On 1 December 2020, FIA and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team confirmed that Lewis Hamilton tested positive for COVID-19.

The FIA, Formula 1 and Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team can today confirm that during mandatory pre-race PCR testing for the Sakhir Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton has tested positive for COVID-19. In accordance with COVID-19 protocols and public health authority guidelines in Bahrain he is now isolating. All contacts have been declared.

The procedures set out by the FIA and Formula 1 will ensure no wider impact on this weekend’s event.

It appears that Hamilton could possibly have been infected by a close contact, prior to arriving in Bahrain.

… he woke up on Monday morning with mild symptoms and was informed at the same time that a contact prior to arrival in Bahrain had subsequently tested positive. Lewis therefore took a further test and returned a positive result. This has since been confirmed by a retest.

What a tremendous stroke of bad luck for seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, who is now forced to drop out of the Sakhir Grand Prix. He will now have to self-isolate and watch the race from his hotel room.

The good news is the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team said that he is fit and well, apart from mild symptoms :

Apart from mild symptoms, he is otherwise fit and well, and the entire team sends him its very best wishes for a swift recovery.

Hamilton is now the third driver to contract COVID-19 during the 2020 F1 season, following Sergio Pérez in August, and then Lance Stroll in October.

As F1 regulations require him to test negative before being allowed back, it seems unlikely that he would be able to make it for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – the final race of the season, on 13 December 2020.

Mercedes Statement On Lewis Hamilton Testing Positive For COVID-19

This was the full statement by the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team on Lewis Hamilton testing positive for COVID-19 :

The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team regrets to announce that Lewis Hamilton has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be unable to take part in this weekend’s Sakhir GP.

Lewis was tested three times last week and returned a negative result each time, the last of which was on Sunday afternoon at the Bahrain International Circuit as part of the standard race weekend testing programme.

However, he woke up on Monday morning with mild symptoms and was informed at the same time that a contact prior to arrival in Bahrain had subsequently tested positive. Lewis therefore took a further test and returned a positive result. This has since been confirmed by a retest.

Lewis is now isolating in accordance with COVID-19 protocols and public health authority guidelines in Bahrain. Apart from mild symptoms, he is otherwise fit and well, and the entire team sends him its very best wishes for a swift recovery.

We will announce our replacement driver plans for this weekend in due course.

Lewis Hamilton : Devastated About COVID-19 Diagnosis

This was what Lewis Hamilton just posted on Twitter :

Hi guys, I’m devastated that I won’t be racing this weekend.

Since we started the season in June, my team and I have been taking all the precautions we possibly can and following the regulations everywhere we’ve been in order to stay safe.

Unfortunately, even though I returned three negative results this past week, I woke up yesterday morning with mild symptoms and requested another test which came back positive. I’ve immediately gone into self-isolation for ten days.

I’m gutted not to be able to race this weekend but my priority is to follow the protocols and advice to protect others.

I’m really lucky that I feel OK with only mild symptoms and will do my best to stay fit and healthy.

Please look after yourselves out there, you can never be too careful. These are worrying times for everyone and we need to make sure we are looking after ourselves and each other. Stay positive.

In addition to hitting 5.8 million online views, the 2019 F1 Esports Series also recorded no less than 169 million social media impressions – 66% better than in 2018!

Interestingly, the 5.8 million online views surpassed the 2018 Series’ combined online + TV viewership of 5.5 million.

This suggests that Formula 1 has gained significant traction in the e-racing wave, reaching younger and more digitally-minded audience. In fact, they revealed that 79% of viewers were below the age of 34 years old!

Formula 1 also noted that there was a record-breaking 109,000 players this season, who attempted over 1.4 million laps to qualify. This represented a massive 65% increase in participation, and a 40% increase in lap numbers over 2018.

Key News From The 2019 F1 Esports Season

The biggest news is, no doubt, the crowning of David Tonizza as the 2019 Drivers’ Champion. He was, notably, the first pick from the 2019 Pro Draft, as well as the first ever esports driver for the Ferrari Driver Academy Hublot Esports Team.

The 2019 F1 Esports season also had Red Bull Racing Esports securing the first Team’s Championship title, fighting off fence competition from the Ferrari Driver Academy Hublot Esports Team, the Alfa Romeo Racing F1 Esports Team and the Renault Sport Team Vitality.

In all, Red Bull Racing Esports had 9 podium finishes, with 3 wins, across the 12 race season.

This was the first year all ten official Formula 1 Esports teams participated, with Ferrari entering for the first time. Formula 1 also doubled the cash prize fund for 2019 – to a whopping $500,000!
