NVIDIA Reflex Now Reduces System Latency For 8 Games!

NVIDIA Reflex Guide : How To Reduce System Latency!

NVIDIA Reflex is being integrated into games, reducing system latency for GeForce graphics cards.

Find out what NVIDIA Reflex is all about, and how to use it to reduce system latency in supported games!

NVIDIA Reflex : What Is It?

NVIDIA describes Reflex as “a revolutionary suite of GPU, G-SYNC display and software technologies” that measure and reduce system latency.

System latency is basically the click-to-display latency – the delay between a key press or a mouse click to the actual action appearing on the display.

It is important for competitive e-sports gamers, because high system latency can impact their performance :

  • Delayed responsiveness : When you move your mouse, but your aim on the screen lags.
  • Delayed shots : When you shoot, the shot and weapon recoil lags.
  • Delayed enemy positions : peeker’s advantage is impacted by system latency

NVIDIA Reflex : How Does It Reduce System Latency?

A careful reading will reveal that the key to this technology is the NVIDIA Reflex SDK – a new set of APIs for game developers.

The NVIDIA Reflex Latency Analyzer, which is being integrated into the new 360 Hz G-SYNC Esports monitors, is only eye-candy, and not necessary for Reflex Low Latency Mode to work.

Once integrated into a game, the Reflex Low Latency Mode adjusts the game engine work to complete “just in time” for rendering. This eliminates the GPU render queue, and reduces CPU back pressure.

Like NVIDIA Ultra Low Latency (NULL) mode, Reflex prevents the CPU from processing faster than the GPU, eliminating extra frames from being queued up for rendering, which would normally increase render latency.

The difference really is this – by integrating with the game, the NVIDIA graphics driver can control the amount of back pressure the CPU receives from the render queue and other later stages of the pipeline.

This makes NVIDIA Reflex superior to NULL, but only with games that integrate the SDK.

NVIDIA Reflex : How Much System Latency Does It Reduce?

This NVIDIA chart shows the amount of system latency that Reflex shaves off in the first four games to support it.

The biggest improvement was seen with Destiny 2 and Fornite – system latency was down by about ⅓.

System latency was down by 22% in Apex Legends, and 18% in Valorant.

NVIDIA Reflex : Requirements

Reflex is only supported by NVIDIA GeForce GTX 900 series graphics cards onwards, using the GeForce Game Ready 457.09 driver or newer.

It is currently supported on these games :

  • Apex Legends
  • Destiny 2
  • Call of Duty : Warzone, Black Ops Cold War
  • CRSED : F.O.A.D.
  • Enlisted
  • Fortnite
  • Mordhau
  • Overwatch
  • Rainbow Six Siege
  • Valorant
  • Warface

NVIDIA Reflex : Automatic, With Max Performance Option

There is really nothing much to set for NVIDIA Reflex. Games that support it will enable it by default, if it detects the presence of a compatible NVIDIA graphics card.

The latest GeForce Experience also comes with an automatic performance tuning option, that will turn on low latency options for supported games.

NVIDIA Ultra Low Latency mode is still there, to support games that do not support Reflex.

It is recommended that you enable NULL by selecting the Ultra option. Reflex Low Latency mode will automatically take priority over NULL in games that support it.

There is, however, a “hack” of sorts for those who want to squeeze every last microsecond of latency out of the pipeline.

The NVIDIA Control Panel has a Power Management Mode option that defaults to Adaptive, allowing the GPU to clock down and save power when the load isn’t high.

You can set this to Prefer Maximum Performance, to override the power saving feature. This forces the GPU to always run at the higher clocks, reducing latency in CPU-bound instances at the expense of higher power consumption.

Realme Caught Using iPhone To Demo narzo 30A Gaming?

Realme appeared to have used an iPhone to demonstrate the gaming performance of their new narzo 30A smartphone!

Find out what happened, and Realme’s response to this new scandal!

Realme Caught Using iPhone To Demo narzo 30A Gaming?

On 20 March 2021, Realme launched the narzo 30A smartphone in Bangladesh, which was live-streamed.

They arranged for three gamers to play PUBG Mobile live, to demonstrate the narzo 30A’s gaming performance.

However, at around the 18:03 mark of the livestream (now removed!), a pop-up appeared on the screen :

Guided Access Started

Triple-click the Side Button to exit

Guided Access is an Apple iOS feature, and is therefore available ONLY on Apple iPhones.

In other words, the PUBG Mobile game being shown on the screen was from an Apple iPhone, not the narzo 30A as claimed.

Realme Explains narzo 30A – iPhone Kerfuffle!

This scandal came just days after Realme was exposed for cheating in AnTuTu Benchmark. Realme called it a bug then.

This time, Realme is claiming that the video was pre-recorded due to “local pandemic control policy” and the A1 team sent them the wrong file.

They removed the livestream video, and will republish it after “the re-production is complete“.

Respecting and abiding by the local pandemic control policy, the narzo 30A launch video was planned to be recorded in advance.  Additionally, the launch video involved a narzo 30A hands-on gaming video.

To ensure a better quality video output, the gaming part was recorded by our partner A1 Esports team and sent to the producer, post-recording.

Although the A1 team did use the narzo 30A smartphone for the recording of the gaming part, a wrong file was accidentally sent to the producer, which led to the appearance of a non-realme smartphone in the video.

In response to this issue, we have immediately contacted our A1 team partner to rectify the accident. We shall republish the video after the re-production is complete.

We sincerely apologize for any unanticipated impacts the incident may have caused. Your kind support to the brand is very much appreciated. Please stay tuned with realme for future updates.

We Examine The Realme narzo 30A – iPhone Claims

Going through Realme’s statement, we can’t help but feel troubled by a few “logical inconsistencies”…

Issue #1 : Local Pandemic Control Policy?

What local pandemic control policy? They arranged for three gamers to play PUBG Mobile side-by-side, and without face masks too!

Issue #2 : Pre-Recorded For Better Quality?

If the video was pre-recorded, why was there a need for the A1 team members to stand up there and “pretend play”?

If they were concerned about video quality, they should have just streamed the pre-recorded clip directly, instead of displaying it behind the A1 team members, as a large but pixelated video that lacked contrast.

Issue #3 : They Didn’t Check The Pre-Recorded Video?

What makes even less sense is the claim that the A1 esports team recorded their gameplay using the narzo 30A, but sent them the wrong file.

Why would the A1 esports team record their gameplay on an iPhone, as well as the narzo 30A? Didn’t Realme check the video they received, to make sure it was from their narzo 30A smartphone?

Which is more likely?

a) they accidentally triggered Guided Access during the livestream, or

b) the A1 team recorded the gameplay on an iPhone and narzo 30A, and accidentally sent Realme the wrong file, and Realme didn’t check their gameplay before streaming it onto the big screen?

You may recall that the Realme team blamed a bug for their fantastical AnTuTu benchmark score. They have yet to adequately explain that either…

narzo 30A – iPhone Scandal : Another Hit To Realme’s Rep

We have been a fan of Realme since they first started with their Realme 2 ProRealme 2 and Realme C1, because they offered really great value for our money.

So we were not surprised by how fast their devices improved, and how fast they grew. Heck, we even took the realme 3 on a photographic trip to the US West Coast, and Las Vegas!

However, a new team apparently took over in the middle of 2019, and it looks like they are willing to risk everything just to gain market share. Perhaps that’s why they coined the tagline, Dare To Leap!.

Since then, they have been hit by revelations that their 90 Hz display only works in certain situations, the recent AnTuTu cheating scandal and now this iPhone streaming scandal.

It’s a real shame, because Realme was doing so well, and building a great reputation for offering great features at a low, low price.

Reputation, as they say, takes a lifetime to build, but can be lost in a second.

We should point out that the Realme narzo 30A is powered by the MediaTek helio G85, which is not affected by the MediaTek benchmark cheating scandal.

2019 F1 Esports Season Hits Record 5.8 Million Views!

In addition to hitting 5.8 million online views, the 2019 F1 Esports Series also recorded no less than 169 million social media impressions – 66% better than in 2018!

Interestingly, the 5.8 million online views surpassed the 2018 Series’ combined online + TV viewership of 5.5 million.

This suggests that Formula 1 has gained significant traction in the e-racing wave, reaching younger and more digitally-minded audience. In fact, they revealed that 79% of viewers were below the age of 34 years old!

Formula 1 also noted that there was a record-breaking 109,000 players this season, who attempted over 1.4 million laps to qualify. This represented a massive 65% increase in participation, and a 40% increase in lap numbers over 2018.

Key News From The 2019 F1 Esports Season

The biggest news is, no doubt, the crowning of David Tonizza as the 2019 Drivers’ Champion. He was, notably, the first pick from the 2019 Pro Draft, as well as the first ever esports driver for the Ferrari Driver Academy Hublot Esports Team.

The 2019 F1 Esports season also had Red Bull Racing Esports securing the first Team’s Championship title, fighting off fence competition from the Ferrari Driver Academy Hublot Esports Team, the Alfa Romeo Racing F1 Esports Team and the Renault Sport Team Vitality.

In all, Red Bull Racing Esports had 9 podium finishes, with 3 wins, across the 12 race season.

This was the first year all ten official Formula 1 Esports teams participated, with Ferrari entering for the first time. Formula 1 also doubled the cash prize fund for 2019 – to a whopping $500,000!

F1 Esports To Head To China!

Formula 1 confirmed that they will launch the F1 Esports Series China Championship in partnership with Juss Intellisports.

The champion and runner-up of the China Championship will ear final spots in the 20202 F1 Esports Series Pro Draft, with the chance to compete for a seat with one of the official F1 Esports team!

CSGO Is Now FREE + Adds Danger Zone Game Mode!

Some of you may not be aware but earlier this month, but Valve made CSGO completely FREE to download, install and play! In addition, they introduced a new Danger Zone game mode. Here are the full details!

CSGO Is Now Free!

After more than 6 years of powering countless esports tournaments, CSGO is now FREE for everyone else to download, install and play. Yes, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is now completely FREE!

Those who purchased CSGO earlier will receive a commemorative Loyalty Badge in their profile, and get their accounts upgraded to Prime Status. That Prime Status upgrade will give you access to the new Souvenir MP5-SD | Lab Rats and the new Danger Zone Case.

The Danger Zone Case features 17 community-designed weapon finishes, and the Horizon knives as special rare items.

New Danger Zone Game Mode!

In the new update, Valve also introduced Danger Zone – a new fast-paced battle royale game mode.

You can play solo, or in a squad of two or three players, in a match with up to 18 players.

[adrotate group=”1″]

Free?! What’s The Catch?

There’s no catch. CSGO is a rather old game by now, and the player base has been shrinking for some time now. By releasing it for free, Valve hopes to renew interest in CSGO and add new players.

And it appears to be working. There was an instant bump when they released CSGO for free.

Of course, it remains to be seen how long players will remain engaged on CSGO, and not turn to newer games like PUBG and Rocket League.

Valve is also hoping that some of the new players will eventually pay to upgrade their accounts to Prime Status.

2018 Dell State Of Gaming Report

An extensive survey of 5,763 video game players in 11 countries, commissioned by Dell, revealed that today’s gamers are quite diverse; from a coworker with two kids, to the woman next to you at the gym, or, most commonly, a spouse, sibling or friend.

Through online platforms and social media, and fueled by the popularity of esports, the gaming community is ever-expanding while also growing in diversity and inclusiveness.

Gone are the days that being called a “gamer” is derogatory. According to those surveyed, fewer than one in 10 feel either “judged,” “childish” or “embarrassed” being called a “gamer” (8-9% each).

[adrotate group=”2″]

Instead, they consider “gamer” a positive label and feel “fun” (35%), “cool” (29%), or “excited” (26%) as a result. While some gamers are willing to self-sacrifice to continue gaming, the majority are well-rounded with interests in music, sports, traveling and socialising.

The gaming community has also become less of a “boy’s club,” with only 14% of gamers globally concerned about the gender of their rivals.

In general, gamers are welcoming to whomever is behind the computer. When it comes to being matched with rival gamers, culture/ethnicity (8%), political views (7%), and sexual orientation (6%) are for the most part inconsequential to a player. What matters most is the other gamer’s skill level (40%).

NVIDIA Expands GeForce iCafe Programme Across APAC!

October 24, 2017 – NVIDIA today announced that there are now more than 250 GeForce iCafes in operation across Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea and Vietnam, with The Pantheon becoming the first GeForce iCafe to earn platinum-class in Malaysia. NVIDIA expects more than 500 GeForce iCafes to be in operation in Asia-Pacific by the end of 2018.

NVIDIA GeForce iCafe Certification

NVIDIA launched its dedicated GeForce iCafe certification programme two years ago to help iCafe owners deliver the ultimate gaming experience to their customers.

Certified GeForce iCafes have access to specially designed GeForce iCafe drivers that provide high performance, save power and offer robust reliability. These drivers are put through rigorous testing by NVIDIA’s Quality Assurance Laboratory and Microsoft’s Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL).

The GeForce iCafes can also leverage NVIDIA Espresso power-saving technology, which provides strong performance and helps to drive higher profits. The technology intelligently and automatically optimises NVIDIA GeForce-based PCs to conserve GPU and CPU power consumption while providing superior graphics performance.

Other incentives of the GeForce iCafe certification program include exclusive participation in Jumpstart for new GeForce product launches, in which iCafe owners can also learn advanced business models; iCafe seminars to learn more about best practices, market trends, programme updates and promotions from NVIDIA partners; and systems integrator workshops.

[adrotate group=”2″]

GeForce iCafe owners are also invited to attend the iCafe Discovery Conference in China. There, iCafe experts, systems integrators and add-in card partners will share innovative business models and ideas, which iCafe owners can apply in their respective countries. Conference benefits include food and beverages, VIP area, eSports zone and a broadcasting room, all aimed at helping iCafes increase revenue.

NVIDIA helps raise the profile of GeForce iCafes by holding major gaming events such as GeForce Xtreme Tournament (GEXT) and Overwatch Open SEA on their premises. These events attract thousands of gamers to the venues, raising the iCafes’ visibility.

The Pantheon is a deluxe establishment located at One Space at One City and features 116 PCs equipped with GeForce GTX 1080, 1070 and 1060 GPUs. A hybrid gaming centre, it provides the ultimate gaming experience for gamers, with a dedicated VR zone and the first eSports arena in Malaysia powered by GeForce GTX and G-SYNC technology.

Sneak Peek Of The AMD Radeon RX 460 In Action Rev. 2.0

During the AMD Polaris & 7th Generation APU tech briefing here in Malaysia, we stumbled upon an actual Radeon RX 460 graphics card.

AMD was using it to power a virtual reality demo of a space turret shooting game on an Oculus Rift VR headset. That was our first encounter with the Radeon RX 460, so we took off the perspex cover to take a closer look.

Updated @ 2016-07-30 : Added details of the virtual reality demo the Radeon RX 460 was powering, as well as a slide with its key specifications.

AMD Radeon RX 460 In Action

As AMD revealed earlier, the Radeon RX 460 is powered by the AMD Polaris 11 GPU, which has 14 Compute Units. It comes with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory on a 128-bit memory bus. For display output, this reference card has a DisplayPort, a HDMI port and a DVI port.

The Radeon RX 480, and the upcoming Radeon RX 470, on the other hand, are powered by the larger Polaris 10 GPU with 36 Compute Units, and 32 Compute Units respectively. They also have a much wider 256-bit memory bus with either 4 GB or 8 GB of GDDR5 memory.

We also took a video of the Radeon RX 460 in action. Check it out!

The Radeon RX 460 is designed to use very little power. It is powered entirely by the PCI Express bus and does not require an additional power connector. AMD has just revealed its official TDP as less than 75 W (see below).

With its low power requirement, the Radeon RX 460 is targeted at eSports gamers. It also makes for a great HTPC graphics card, as it supports hardware encoding and decoding of H.264 and HEVC (H.265) videos at 4K resolution.

AMD Radeon RX 460 Specifications

AMD just revealed some details of the Radeon RX 460’s key specifications, including the official design. Check it out!

As you can see, the final Radeon RX 460 card will have a slab-sided shroud that is similar to the one used in the Radeon RX 480. The Radeon RX 460 will be officially released on August 8, 2016. There is no official price indication, but we expect it to cost less than US$99.
