Introducing The AMD Athlon 3000G
The AMD Raven Ridge soldiers on for one more hurrah! Introducing the AMD Athlon 3000G in this video is Don Woligroski, AMD Desktop Processor Technical Marketing Manager.
AMD Athlon 3000G : The Last Raven Ridge APU!
The 3000G is what AMD calls an Accelerated Processing Unit, because it combines a processor with a graphics processor in a single die.
It comes with two Zen processor cores that are capable of handling four simultaneous threads, and a Radeon Vega 3 GPU with 12 texture units and 4 ROPs.
Priced at just US$49, the Athlon 3000G has a fixed 3.5 GHz clock speed, with a 35 W TDP. It comes with a 1 MB L2 cache and a 4 MB L3 cache. Unlike earlier Raven Ridge APUs though, the 3000G has been unlocked for overclocking.
However, this will be the (last and) only Raven Ridge Athlon to be released this year, so don’t expect a higher clocked part. Don Woligroski confirmed this in the Q&A session (see this video)

AMD gave us a tech and performance briefing on the two 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper processors they just launched.
Here is EVERYTHING we know so far about the 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper processors!
The 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper Tech Preview
Giving us a preview of the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors is Don Woligroski, AMD Desktop Processor Technical Marketing Manager.
The 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper Performance Preview
And here we have the official 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper performance preview featuring Dr. Lisa Su, Robert Hallock and James Knight from AMD, as well as Dan Akers and Shawn Wallbridge of Blur Studio.
The 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper Processors
The first two members of the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors have been confirmed :
Like the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen processors, the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors are based on the new Zen 2 architecture with the chiplet design approach.
The CPU dies are fabricated on the 7 nm process technology, while the I/O die is fabricated on the 12 nm process technology.
AMD also announced that they are breaking backward compatibility with the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper.
They are introducing both a new sTRX4 processor socket, and a new AMD TRX40 chipset to support it. However, you will still be able to use existing Threadripper coolers.
The processor comes with 64 PCIe 4.0 lanes, of which 56 are available for use. The AMD TRX40 chipset adds another 24 PCIe 4.0 lanes, with 16 free lanes.
In total, the new Socket sTRX4 and TRX40 chipset will give you 72 free PCIe 4.0 lanes to use, compared to just 56 free PCIe 3.0 lanes in previous generations.
In addition, the new AMD TRX40 chipset communicates with the 3rd Gen Threadripper using a PCIe 4.0 x8 link. This gives it 4X more bandwidth than the PCIe 3.0 x4 link used in the first two generations.

After a two month delay, the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X is finally here to take on the Intel Core i9-9920X, with more cores and a much lower price point!
Here is EVERYTHING you need to know about AMD’s new Core i9 killer processor!
AMD Ryzen 9 3950X Tech Briefing
First up, Don Woligroski, AMD Desktop Processor Technical Marketing Manager, gives us a tech briefing on the new AMD Ryzen 9 3950X processor.
Updated @ 2019-11-26 : Added a new spider chart comparing its performance against the Intel Core i9-9920X, as well as prices for Malaysia and Singapore.

The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X Processor
The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X is a 16-core, 32-thread processor to top off the 3rd Gen Ryzen family, offering a 3.5 GHz base clock, a 4.7 GHz boost clock, and a massive 64 MB L3 cache.
CPU Architecture + Design
Like all other 3rd Gen Ryzen processors, the Ryzen 9 3950X are based on the new Zen 2 architecture with the chiplet design approach.
The CPU dies are fabricated on the 7 nm process technology, while the I/O die is fabricated on the 12 nm process technology.
Better Single-Threaded Performance
The new AMD Ryzen 9 3950X delivers up to 22% better single-threaded performance, which is critical for games.
This gives it comparable gaming performance to the Intel Core i9-9900K and Intel Core i9-9920X processors.
Much Better Multi-Threaded Performance
With 16 cores and 32 threads, the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X is much faster than the 8-core Intel Core i9-9900K and 12-core Intel Core i9-9920X processors. It’s not even close!
Far More Power-Efficient!
Thanks to its CPU cores being fabricated on the 7 nm process technology, the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X is able to do more with less power.
In fact, it uses far less power than the Intel Core i9-9900K and Intel Core i9-9920X processors, delivering up to 2.34X more performance per watt!
No Bundled Cooler
The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X will NOT ship with a bundled cooler, because it’s meant to be used with liquid cooling for optimal performance.
In fact, AMD is recommending that you use it with an AIO liquid water cooler that has a 280 mm or larger radiator.
AMD Ryzen 9 3950X vs Intel Core i9-9920X New!
Here is a spider chart that AMD just shared with us, comparing the Ryzen 9 3950X with the Core i9-9920X.

Last week, AMD invited us to a tech briefing on the AMD Ryzen 3 processors for the mainstream desktop market. This is a follow-up to their earlier teaser on the Ryzen 3, when they revealed the Ryzen Threadripper processor. We managed to create a video of both their presentation, as well as the Q&A session after that. Check them out!
The AMD Ryzen 3 Processors Revealed!
The tech briefing session was hosted by AMD PR Manager Iain Bristow, with three AMD spokespersons – James Prior (Senior Product Manager for AMD Client Desktop), Don Woligroski (Global Marketing Manager for AMD Desktop Processors) and Robert Hallock (Head of Global Technical Marketing, AMD).
In this 22-minute video presentation, they detailed the key performance advantages of the new Ryzen 3 processors over their Intel Core i3 competitors. They also talked about the introduction of the 7th Generation AMD A-Series and Athlon processors to the Socket AM4 platform.
The AMD team then took questions from members of the media for 10 minutes on the new Ryzen 3 processors.
Here are the key points :
The AMD Ryzen 3 processors have four processors cores, capable of processing 4 simultaneous threads.
All AMD Ryzen 3 processors feature the AMD SenseMI technology, and are multiplier-unlocked.
The first two AMD Ryzen 3 processors are the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200.[adrotate group=”2″]
They will both come with the low-profile AMD Wraith Stealth cooler.
The AMD Ryzen 3 1300X is up to 29% faster than the Intel Core i3-7300.
The AMD Ryzen 3 1300X is up to 17% faster than the Intel Core i3-7100.
AMD will make the Wraith MAX cooler, with RGB LED control, available for purchase for US$ 59.
AMD also announced the worldwide availability of the 7th Generation A-Series and Athlon processors to cater to entry-level PCs.
They also announced the availability of BIOS updates based on AGESA 1.0.0.6 (AMD Generic Encapsulated Software Architecture) which allows for better overclockability with 3200 MHz DDR4 memory compatibility.
