FREE 1GB Internet Now Extended To Full 24 Hours!

FREE 1GB Internet Now Extended To Full 24 Hours!

All five Malaysian telcos finally agreed to extend the daily free 1GB Internet to the full 24 hours! Here are the details!

FREE 1GB Internet For COVID-19 Lockdown!

As part of the Short-Term Economic Recovery Plan (ERP) announced by the Malaysian government, every Malaysian resident were given 1GB of free Internet every day during the COVID-19 lockdown.

However, they only provided the 1GB of free Internet from 8 AM until 6 PM daily. Presumably because it’s meant for working and learning at home.

FREE 1GB Internet Now Extended To Full 24 Hours!

Some three weeks after Malaysia started its economic recovery, all five Malaysian telcos finally agreed to let people use the daily Internet quota after 6 PM.

Maybe they finally realised that working and learning at home doesn’t actually stop at 6 PM…

Free 1GB Internet Now Usable For Full 24 Hours

Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile and Telekom Malaysia announced that, effective immediately, the free daily 1GB Internet would be usable for the full 24 hours.

Free 1GB Internet Daily, Until 31 December

They also confirmed that the daily free 1GB Internet will be provided until 31 December 2020.

This daily complimentary 1GB Internet quota is on top of your existing plan’s Internet quota.

If you normally receive 1GB of Internet for a month, this will give you 31GB of Internet for the whole month – 1GB + 30GB (in a month with 30 days).

For Work + Learning, Not For Play

The daily 1GB Internet quota can be used for everything, except social media, video streaming, gaming and music streaming.

Free Access To Essential Services

On top of the daily 1GB Internet quota, all five telcos will provide free and unlimited access to essential COVID-19 related apps and services, like :

  • MySejahtera and MyTrace apps
  • CPRC Hotline
  • Malaysia Ministry of Health and World Health Organization websites

1 Million Mate30 Phones Sold In 3 Hours In China! How About Malaysia?

HUAWEI sold an amazing 1 million units of the HUAWEI Mate30 Series smartphones in just 3 hours in China!

But what about Malaysia, where HUAWEI just kicked off public sale of the HUAWEI Mate30 Series smartphones?

HUAWEI Mate30 Phone Sales In Malaysia

The HUAWEI Mate30 smartphones were just released for public sale a week ago, after an exclusive referral sales program.

Even so, HUAWEI Malaysia says that 70% of their Mate30 Series vouchers have already been redeemed from the HUAWEI Member Centre!

What exactly is driving the sale of the HUAWEI Mate30 smartphones here in Malaysia? Let’s find out…

Why The HUAWEI Mate30 Is Popular In Malaysia

Here are some reasons why we believe HUAWEI Mate30 has so far struck a clear note with Malaysians.

No GMS? No Problem!

First, let’s get the elephant out of the room – the worry about HUAWEI Mobile Services, instead of Google Mobile Services.

Malaysians are generally quite tech-savvy and have quickly embraced solutions to the problem, as this video demonstrates :

Greatly Expanded HUAWEI AppGallery

Thanks to massive investment in the HUAWEI AppGallery, it has seen a massive expansion in the number of apps. More importantly – many key apps were launched within a month!

Over a period of just two months – from September to October 2019 – there were 200,000 new users of HUAWEI App Gallery, with 100 million apps downloaded in Malaysia alone!

On a daily basis, HUAWEI reported over 1.5 million downloads, and that 27 popular or critical apps were added in a single month.

SuperSensing Cine Camera

Malaysians LOVE to take photos and videos with their smartphones, and they are very particular about image quality and camera features.

The HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro is particularly popular because of its 40 MP SuperSensing Cine Camera, which supports 4K 60fps video recording, with these groundbreaking features :

  • an ISO of up to 51200,
  • Cinematic Time-lapse capability,
  • real-time video bokeh effect, and
  • an ultra-slow motion mode that records at up to 7680 fps!

Interactive AI Gesture Control

This is a really cool feature that seems to have impressed many Malaysians.

Its 3D Depth Sensing Camera and a Gesture Sensor are used to identify your face and detect your gestures, which are then used by its Tiny-Core NPU to interpret your gestures.

By simply looking at the screen, and swiping your hands, you can “command” the Mate 30 Series smartphone to perform many commands like unlocking the screen, change pages, and take screenshots.

AI Private View + AI Auto Rotate

The HUAWEI Mate 30 Series smartphones offer an AI Private View mode, which hides your private messages if it cannot recognised the face of the person viewing them!

They also have an AI Auto-Rotate capability, that uses the front 3D camera to analyse your eye orientation to automatically determine if they should lock the rotation of the display.

Multi-Screen Collaboration

The HUAWEI Multi-Screen Collaboration feature is incredibly powerful and useful.

Enabling it lets you easily drag-and-drop files between your Mate 30 Series smartphone and laptop. It even lets you use your laptop’s keyboard to type messages directly on your phone!

Long Battery Life!

Malaysians are prodigious smartphone users, which is why we always have a power bank handy!

The HUAWEI Mate 30 Series smartphones though, comes with a large 4200 mAh (Mate30) or 4500 mAh (Mate30 Pro) battery, which means they last a full day and then some!

And when it’s time to recharge them, it appears Malaysians love its super-fast 40W wired charging and world-leading 27W wireless charging capabilities!

The Digi Freedom to Internet Offers Explained!

Digi just launched Digi Freedom to Internet, offering more value, convenience and exclusive services. But there are not one, or two, but FOUR Digi Freedom propositions. Confused? We summarise the new Digi Freedom to Internet offers, so you know what exactly they mean for you!

The Digi Freedom to Internet Offers

First, let us remind you that freedom is NOT free – Digi is not giving away anything free. What they’re offering is a clearer, easier way to manage your costs while getting the services you want at a lower cost.

In this video, Digi’s Head of Digital Product & Services, Prashant Pathmanaban, and Benjamin Tan, Digi’s Head of Postpaid, gives an in-depth presentation of the Digi Freedom to Internet offers. There is even a hilarious short video starring pindaPanda!

Digi Freedom to Internet consists of four “Freedom propositions” – Music Freedom, Video Freedom, Gaming Freedom and Roaming Freedom.

Music Freedom

All Digi Postpaid and Prepaid customers, who have been with the company for at least six months, will receive an upgrade of their Music Freedom quota – from 1 GB to 5 GB. This is the music streaming quota monthly for music streaming services such as Spotify, Joox and Smule.

Video Freedom

[adrotate group=”2″]

For only RM 5 per month, Digi customers can buy 5 GB of video streaming quota to get access to and watch premium TV series and movies on Viu. Digi will offer launch a similar offer for iflix and Tonton very soon.

Gaming Freedom

Digi Postpaid and Prepaid customers can now purchase in-game items for their favourite Steam and Garena game titles, such as League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike and FIFA, without debit or credit cards. With Gaming Freedom, they can simply choose to pay through their Digi accounts.

Digi will also offer exclusive gaming offers like unique collectible top-up cards, in-game items, as well as access to top gaming events. Their first gaming offer – a series of League of Legends collectible top-up cards will be offered for sale beginning 1st July 2017.

Roaming Freedom

Customers on the Digi Postpaid 110 plan or better will enjoy free roaming in 8 countries – China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar and Brunei. Customers on the Digi Postpaid 80 plan will just pay a small RM 10 fee to enjoy the same benefit.

Digi will also offer Internet passes from only RM 5 per day, and a 3-day combo pass (2 GB Internet + 30 minutes of calls) for RM 25 per day.

The Digi iFleet Fleet Management System Revealed!

On 8 June 2017, Digi Telecommunications revealed to us the first IoT solution to debut from their Connected Vehicle project – the Digi iFleet fleet management system. This is a B2B solution targeted at commercial vehicles, offering an all-in-one solution for businesses to track their vehicle fleet in real-time.

Digi Connected Vehicles

Digi is transforming from its beginnings as a telecommunications provider into a digital company. To diversify their revenue streams, they are leveraging their 4G+ network to offer IoT solutions. Their Connected Vehicles project is the first of many IoT verticals that Digi is venturing into.

Digi is particularly interested in the commercial vehicle market, which boasts more than 27.6 million registered vehicles. The market is also projected to grow at 60,000 additional vehicles per year. With SPAD ICOP safety guidelines requiring these vehicles to have real-time tracking systems, this is a huge market for a fleet management system. This is where the new Digi iFleet service comes in.

Digi iFleet Fleet Management System

Digi iFleet is a B2B solution targeted at commercial vehicles. This is the first IoT solution Digi is introducing from its range of Connected Vehicle offerings. This fleet management service enables businesses to track their fleet in real-time. Digi believes it’s the most robust all-in-one solution in the market, with the following advantages over its competitor :

  • All inclusive solution that takes care of hardware, software and connectivity at one go
  • Advanced tracking technology providing greater fleet insights to improve business productivity
  • Driver behaviour insights and scoring to instil safe driving culture
  • A continuously evolving value-added solution introducing features beyond tracking, such as smart fuel management and usage-based insurance (UBI) ready to name a few

While Digi is rather late to the fleet management market, they believe that Digi iFleet will disrupt the market with its end-to-end system, and affordable fee with no major cost outlay. How does Digi iFleet do that? For that, we have Selina Wong, the Digi iFleet Product Manager, who explains it all in this video.

The Digi iFleet solution consists of both hardware and a cloud-based service. When a business signs up for iFleet, a tracking module will be attached to the battery of their vehicles. The tracking module has independent sensors and a built-in modem that transmits data to the Digi iFleet system every 10 seconds. It also has an internal battery that last 4 hours, and 8 MB of flash storage.

If necessary, Digi can enable roaming for vehicles that need to cross national borders during their deliveries. Otherwise, the internal flash storage is sufficient to store about a month’s worth of data. The module is designed to transmit the data whenever it is within range of the Digi network.

According to Digi, iFleet is already being used by logistic providers like SnT Global, and piloted across diverse industries like FMCG, automobile and infrastructure with brands such as Peugeot, Kia, Gamuda and Citylink.

Digi iFleet Price & Availability

[adrotate group=”2″]

Digi iFleet is available to all Malaysian enterprises at just RM 90 per vehicle per month.

Companies that are Digi Enterprise Business customers will be entitled to a special offer. If they sign up by 30 June 2017, they only need to pay RM 75 per vehicle per month – a 16.67% discount.

Coming Soon In 2H 2017 : B2C & UBI Solutions For Private Vehicles

Digi will introduce a B2C connected vehicle solution in 2H 2017 that will offer private vehicle owners a solution that encompasses tracking, driver safety, vehicle security and smart in-vehicle services for an affordable price.

In addition, Digi is also preparing to introduce usage-based insurance solutions when the insurance tariff is liberalised in July 2017. They will allow private vehicle insurers the capability to price motor insurance premiums according to actual individual vehicle or fleet performance. This will reward good drivers with lower premium payments.

Digi VoLTE (Voice-over-LTE) Is Now Available!

Shah Alam, 26 October 2016Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) today announced that the Digi VoLTE (Voice-over-LTE) feature is now available on its 4G LTE network nationwide. VoLTE is a next-generation voice call technology that allows customers to enjoy better voice call quality for those with VoLTE-capable devices such as the newly launched Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Digi VoLTE

With Digi VoLTE, voice calls are connected over a 4G LTE network. Up to now, cellular voice calls in Malaysia for all telcos are generally made over 2G and 3G networks. The higher bandwidth of the 4G LTE network makes it ideal to transmit higher fidelity voice calls that Digi customers can now enjoy. Along with that, Digi VoLTE also comes with a noise cancellation capability that eliminates most background noise for a clearer call experience.

Another advantage of VoLTE is that it allows customers to simultaneously surf the web, download or stream content from the internet at 4G LTE speeds while engaged on a voice call. Up to now, the need to use 3G or 2G infrastructure to connect voice calls means internet activity while on calls will not be as fast as experienced on Digi’s 4G LTE network.

“We are excited to bring this next-generation technology to customers. VoLTE is an evolution of voice call technology. We have been placing voice calls on the 2G and 3G network for years now and it’s a natural shift that we’re bring the higher capacity of our 4G network to offer customers a higher quality call experience.”

“We have been working hard to bring innovation to the market and VoLTE is one of the many things we have in the pipeline for our customers. This is yet another step forward as we move towards our ambition of becoming our customers’ favourite partner in digital life,” said Digi’s Chief Marketing Officer, Loh Keh Jiat.

[adrotate banner=”4″]

To enjoy these new features, which come at no additional cost, both devices making and receiving the call must be VoLTE-capable with the feature switched on and with both customers located within Digi’s 4G LTE coverage area. Digi’s 4G LTE network now reaches 78% of Malaysians nationwide in 225 major cities and towns making it widely accessible for those with the appropriate devices to enjoy an improved call quality.

Digi customers who bought the newly launched iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be among the first to experience VoLTE as the smartphone comes equipped for it. Customers with earlier versions of the iPhone, including the iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, 6, 6 Plus and SE will also be able to enjoy VoLTE calls as long as they’ve upgraded their iOS version to 10.1 and activated VoLTE from the device settings. VoLTE capability in devices from other manufacturers will be rolled out soon in stages.

Meanwhile, customers with devices that are not VoLTE-capable need not worry as there are no changes to the way they enjoy Digi’s voice calls.

Malaysians Are Digital Frontrunners In Telenor Survey

Kuala Lumpur, 20 June 2016Digi today announced a study released by Telenor Group’s research arm, Telenor Research, which shows Malaysians being overall digital frontrunners, leading internet communication within Telenor’s global footprint when paralleled to other nation’s young internet-users. While digital services gain strong popularity around the world, Malaysians are also influential in the daily use of mobile devices for a wide range of internet activities, from browsing to playing online games.

Digital Frontrunners

The Telenor Group study was carried out in Q4 2015 on a sample of 5,600 people in Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan, Serbia, Hungary, Sweden and Norway, aged 16-35 years old, who use internet on their mobile phones – a demographic Telenor identifies as ‘Digital Frontrunners.’ The way these users apply internet on their mobiles, gives indications as to how the wider demographic in the respective countries will adopt mobile internet in the years ahead.

“It is crucial to have surveys like this one looking at ‘Digital Frontrunners’ who can help forecast future industry trends,” said Bjørn Taale, Head of Research, Telenor Research. “Not only is this information beneficial in planning our digital services, it is also interesting to see the resemblance between nations as diverse as Thailand, Hungary, Pakistan or Norway. Just when we think that two nations may be following the same evolution, local nuances show that we are as unique as we are similar.”

Messaging Apps Most Important in Malaysia

The survey found that a resounding 62% of respondents in Malaysia consider mobile apps the most ‘important’ communication service available to them on a mobile phone. This was in stark contrast to all other surveyed markets which consider mobile voice services to be the most important. Only 19% of Malaysian agreed voice calls to be the most essential.

Supporting this finding is Malaysian’s high daily use of internet communications at approximately 85%, and low daily use of telecommunications services at roughly 65%— the highest and lowest indicators respectively across all surveyed markets. Messaging apps are noted as the preferred internet communication service for being in touch with others, with 80% using this on a daily basis.

The rising popularity of messaging apps in Malaysia is equally reflected in most of the surveyed countries, although there are variances. More than half of the respondents in all surveyed countries said they use messaging apps several times a day. Only two nations noted less than 50% usage, including Sweden at 44% and Pakistan at a notable 29%.

For one-to-one communications on mobiles via the internet, Malaysians can’t get enough of WhatsApp with only a small 3% of those surveyed saying they use it less than once a month. However, other countries vary, with Thais opting for LINE, Pakistanis equally choosing WhatsApp, Serbians employing Viber and Swedes preferring email. Overall, Facebook remained uniformly strong across all the surveyed countries in addition to their cited top preferences.

[adrotate banner=”5″]

Malaysia Embraces New and Traditional Uses of Mobile Internet

Second to messaging apps, Malaysian frontrunners use daily to several times per day traditional mobile voice (56%) and SMS services (49%) on their phones, trailed by newer internet voice communications (34%) and video calls (28%).

Notwithstanding the ‘daily’ use of SMS communications services for Malaysians has dramatically declined from 88% in 2012 to 73% in 2014 and finally 49% in 2015, among those surveyed for this study. Reflecting the same pattern is the daily social media posting in Malaysia, which went from 48% in 2012, peaked at 58% in 2014 and then dropped in 2015 to 42%. Malaysians’ use of internet voice and video calls followed similar peaks in 2014, indicating the country’s frontrunners use may be linked to early adoption when new technologies first launch.

Overall, Asia leads in adoption of new mobile internet services. This is underscored by Malaysian respondents who cited some of the highest percentage of weekly usage across the surveyed markets in map services (50%) and playing games (68%).

“Given our presence across diverse regions in Asia and Europe, we need to listen to our customers and evolve alongside them.
