Dell UltraSharp Webcam (WB7022) : All You Need To Know!

Dell just introduced the UltraSharp Webcam (WB7022) for the new Work From Home normal!

Here is what you need to know about the new Dell WB7022 UltraSharp Webcam!

Dell UltraSharp Webcam (WB7022) : All You Need To Know!

More than 18 months into the COVID-19 pandemic, the Work From Home (WFH) normal appears to be here to stay, at least for now.

To ensure that those who need to remotely work have the best possible video conferencing webcam, Dell just introduced the UltraSharp Webcam.

With nine patent-pending technologies, the Dell UltraSharp Webcam offers 4K image quality, built-in AI tracking and other video conferencing features.

4K Webcam With World’s Best Image Quality

Dell claims that the UltraSharp Webcam offers the world’s best image quality, courtesy of the large 4K Sony STARVIS CMOS sensor and the multi-element lens that captures more light to deliver “crystal-clear video”.

It supports frame rates of 24 and 30 fps at the full 4K UHD resolution. It also supports the higher 60 fps frame rate, at the lower 1080p and 720p resolutions.

It’s not just about the hardware. It’s also about the software embedded into the UltraSharp Webcam.

Its Digital Overlap HDR capability lets the Dell UltraSharp Webcam preserve true-to-life colours and balance exposure.

Meanwhile, its 2D/3D video noise reduction capability eliminates grainy images, making you look good even in low light conditions.

AI Auto-Framing

The Dell UltraSharp Webcam has AI Auto-Framing capability built-in. This feature uses Artificial Intelligence to keep you focused and centred in the frame.

You don’t have to manually adjust the webcam. It will track your movements and shift the frame to keep you centered, even if you stand up!

5X Digital Zoom + Three Fields of View

The Dell UltraSharp Webcam supports up to 5X digital zoom, as well as three fields of view – 65°, 78° and 90°.

This allows you to fit multiple people in the same conference call, or focus exclusively on you in a crowded place.

Smart Security Features

The Dell UltraSharp Webcam supports Windows Hello, allowing you to sign-in quickly and securely usual facial recognition.

It also has Dell ExpressSign-in capability built-in, allowing Dell PCs to detect your presence as you approach and automatically log you out when you step away, offering you an extra level of security.

Finally, it comes with a magnetic privacy cover that securely snaps onto the lens, or the back of the webcam.

Webcam Mounting Solutions

The Dell UltraSharp Webcam comes with two mounts in the box :

  • a magnetic mount
  • a tripod adaptor

The magnetic mount makes it easy to attach to the top of any desktop or laptop monitor, without obscuring the display.

And if you need to mount it on a tripod, simply slide the webcam off the magnetic mount and slide it into the tripod adaptor!

Dell Commissions Largest Solar Panel Globally In Malaysia!

Dell Technologies just commissioned the largest on-site solar panel globally in Penang, Malaysia!

Here is what you need to know about this latest green initiative by Dell Technologies!

Dell Commissions Largest Solar Panel Globally In Malaysia!

Dell Technologies just commissioned the largest on-site solar panel globally at their Asia Pacific Customer Centre (APCC2) in Bukit Mertajam, Penang in Malaysia!

This RM2.25 million (~US$550,000) solar photovoltaic system is the first in Southeast Asia for a Dell Technologies facility.

This 700 kWp rooftop system consists of 1,590 highly-efficient solar panels, that will produce nearly 1,000 MWh of renewable electricity every year.

That is enough to power more than ¼ of the production lines at this 24-hour facility, reducing its annual greenhouse gas emissions by about 650 metric tonnes!

Dell Solar Panel In Malaysia : Towards Progress Made Real 2030!

This commissioning of such a large solar panel system is part of Dell Technologies’ Progress Made Real 2030 plan to create a positive and lasting social impact on humankind and the planet through 2030 and beyond.

Amongst other goals, Progress Made Real aims to source 75% of electricity from renewal energy sources across all Dell Technologies facilities by 2030, and 100% by 2040, with the goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

“We all have a role in protecting the planet. That is why Dell Technologies has committed to reducing our emissions across facilities, our supply chain and in the energy intensity of our products over the next decade, and reaching net zero emissions by 2050,” said Pang Yee Beng, senior vice president, South Asia, and managing director, Malaysia, Dell Technologies. “This solar power installation is key to us achieving this goal and we are extremely proud to lead the way in Malaysia with our largest on-site solar power installation globally to reduce emissions and create positive environmental impact.”

Places IDed By HIDE COVID-19 System To Close For 3 Days!

Malaysia has ordered that all places identified by the new HIDE COVID-19 analytics system must close for three days!

Here are the latest details!

HIDE COVID-19 System : What Is It?

The HIDE (Hotspot Identification For Dynamic Engagement) System uses Big Data Analytics (BDA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to predict potential COVID-19 hotspots over a 7-day horizon.

To be clear, the list of places flagged by the HIDE system are NOT actual COVID-19 cluster locations.

Instead, they are the places that the HIDE system predicts COULD soon become COVID-19 cluster locations.

The HIDE system leverages MySejahtera check-ins, and other existing healthcare databases to make these predictions.

HIDE COVID-19 System : What Is It For?

By predicting potential COVID-19 hotpots, the HIDE system basically alerts businesses to either shut down, or quickly take precautions.

Now, premises flagged by the system do NOT need to shut down, unless required by enforcement authorities.

Instead, they are only advised to quickly undertake pre-emptive measures like :

  • Enhance gatekeeping (checking the risk status of MySejahtera check-ins, and deny individuals with ‘high risk’ status from entering);
  • Screen their workers for COVID-19, be it with RTK-Ag or RT-PCR tests; and
  • Enhance crowd control measures, especially areas with tight spaces, or that are prone to overcrowding.

By taking those measures, the risk of becoming a COVID-19 hotspot can be quickly lowered, and these premises will be taken off the HIDE list.

Places IDed By HIDE COVID-19 System To Close For 3 Days!

On 8 May 2021, Malaysia Senior Minister for Security Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaacob announced that all places identified by the new HIDE COVID-19 system must immediately close for three days, from 9 May until 11 May 2021!

Here is the full list of places flagged by the HIDE system as potential COVID-19 hotspots over the next 7 days.

Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra, A Flexible Modular Zero-Footprint PC!

Dell just unveiled the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra with the world’s most flexible, zero-footprint desktop design!

We will take a look at what that means, and why the new Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra may be just the modern office needs!

The Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra

The Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra is called a zero-footprint desktop design, because it integrates the PC with the monitor. This is what the industry calls an All-In-One (AIO) design.

While AIO designs save space and reduce clutter, they are often notoriously difficult, if not impossible, to upgrade over time.

The Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra, however, was designed from the ground-up to be modular, offering flexibility in both serviceability and upgradability.

  • Independent upgrade of the PC and the display – you can swap out, upgrade or service any part at any time
  • The PC is integrated into the monitor stand, with physical security options to protect against tampering
  • Can be configured for different use cases or work styles with options of a height-adjustable stand, fixed stand, VESA mount, Dell MSA20 single monitor arm or the Dell MDA20 dual monitor arm.
  • The PC performance can be scaled to meet the users’ needs – up to Intel Core vPro i7 processors, 64 GB of RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD and 2 TB HDD

Even though it already comes with a display, the Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra can support up to two other monitors – from 19- to 27-inches – for greater productivity.

And if you opt for the new Dell USB-C monitors, you can use a single cable to transmit power, data, video and audio!

Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra Price + Availability

The Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra will be available for purchase by end of September 2019, with pricing to be announced later.

Dell MentorConnect Leads The Way In Diversity + Inclusion!

Dell Technologies just launched MentorConnect – a mentorship programme that promotes diversity and inclusion.

Here is our primer on the Dell MentorConnect programme, and how it will change the workplace dynamics in Malaysia!

What Is MentorConnect?

MentorConnect is a unique cross-company mentorship programme that promotes diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

It now has 17 mentors from 11 different companies, and has since helped over 220 mentees – both men and women – in a variety of roles, from finance, sales and operations to engineering, marketing and IT.

Present at the launch, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, YB Hannah Yeoh said, “I commend Dell Technologies and its partners for launching the MentorConnect programme – this inter-company collaboration will help those participating to think out of the box, get new ideas and be inspired by how others are doing things.”

“Furthermore, I encourage the private sector and companies like Dell Technologies to explore ideas beyond the professional and personal development of the workforce, and consider the idea of a family-focused workplace.”

“Initiatives such as setting up a childcare centre in the workplace creates an enabling environment – both for mothers and fathers – for employees to thrive in the workplace. Childcare centres in the workplace not only retains women in the workforce but also assures the parents that their children are in a safe place.”

How MentorConnect Began

Dell MentorConnect began three years ago as a local initiative by the Penang chapter of the Women In Action Employee Resource Group.

The Women In Action ERG is a community of men and women across the world that aims to position Dell Technologies as an employer of choice for all, by creating a supportive and inclusive environment.

MentorConnect has since grown into a cross-company programme in both the Penang and Cyberjaya campuses of Dell Technologies.

MentorConnect Partner Companies

In addition to Dell Technologies, MentorConnect has now grown to include :

The Human-Machine Partnership by Erik Brynjolfsson + Rana el Kaliouby

At the Dell Technologies World 2019, we were lucky enough to snag a seat at the talk by MIT Professor Erik Brynjolfsson; and MIT alumni and Affectiva CEO, Rana el Kaliouby, on human-machine partnership.

We managed to record the incredibly insightful session for everyone who could not make it for this exclusive guru session. This is a video you must not miss!

The DTW 2019 Guru Sessions

One of the best reasons to attend Dell Technologies World 2019 are the guru sessions. If you are lucky enough to reserve a seat, you will have the opportunity to listen to some of the world’s most brilliant thinkers and doers.

The Human-Machine Partnership

The talk on human-machine partnership by Professor Brynjolfsson and Ms. Rana was the first of several guru sessions at Dell Technologies World 2019.

Entitled “How Emerging Technologies & Human Machine Partnerships Will Transform the Economy“, it focused on how technology changed human society, and what the burgeoning efforts in artificial intelligence will mean for humanity.

Here are the key points from their guru session on the human-machine partnership :

Erik Brynjolfsson (00:05 to 22:05) on the Human-Machine Partnership

  • You cannot replace old technologies with new technologies, without rethinking the organisation or institution.
  • We are now undergoing a triple revolution
    – a rebalancing of mind and machine through Big Data and Artificial Intelligence
    – a shift from products to (digital) platforms
    – a shift from the core to crowd-based decision making
  • Shifting to data-driven decision-making based on Big Data results in higher productivity and greater profitability.
  • Since 2015, computers can now recognise objects better than humans, thanks to rapid advances in machine learning.
  • Even machine-based speech recognition has become as accurate as humans from 2017 onwards.
  • While new AI capabilities are opening up new possibilities in many fields, they are also drastically reducing or eliminating the need for humans.
  • Unlike platforms of the past, the new digital networks leverage “two-sided networks“. In many cases, one network is used to subsidise the other network, or make it free-to-use.
  • Shifting to crowd-based decision-making introduces diversity in the ways of thinking, gaining new perspectives and breakthroughs in problem-solving.
  • Digital innovations have greatly expanded the economy, but it doesn’t mean that everyone will benefit. In fact, there has been a great decoupling between the productivity and median income of the American worker in the past few decades.

Here Are The 2019 Virtustream Multicloud Survey Results!

The 2019 Virtustream Multicloud Survey results was just announced with some interesting insights into the multicloud strategies being employed globally. Here is our quick primer on what the study revealed!

The 2019 Virtustream Multicloud Survey

Virtustream, a Dell Technologies company, commissioned Forrester Consulting to conduct their latest global survey of the multicloud strategy of more than 700 companies globally.

Virtustream commissioned the survey to study the current state of enterprise IT strategies for cloud-based workloads.

The 2019 Virtustream Multicloud Survey Summarised

The survey report, titled Multicloud Drive Mission-Critical Benefits, found that :

  • almost all (97%) of those companies used multicloud strategies in their mission-critical applications.
  • two thirds use multiple vendors for mission-critical workloads
  • multicloud deployments will increase over the next few years, with businesses expanding their multicloud budgets for staffing, investments and training
  • nearly 90% of companies surveyed will maintain or increase their budget to boost their multicloud deployments
  • nearly 75% of companies surveyed are using multiple cloud providers for mission-critical applications
  • nearly 61% of companies surveyed were concerned about security and management of their multicloud strategies.

Benefits Of Multicloud Strategies For Mission-Critical Applications

A majority of business organizations shared that multicloud strategies was used in mission-critical cases that involved customers’ financial data or sales applications.

In fact, the survey found that nearly 75% of business organisations are using about 2-3 cloud providers for business-critical applications.

Among the main benefits of using multicloud strategies were quick and efficient response to business changes and challenges.

An increased performance and savings in operational costs were also counted as additional benefits.

Security + Management Concerns In The 2019 Virtustream Multicloud Survey

Management and deployment of multicloud strategies are complex, which is why many business organisations face issues with its implementation.

The 2019 Microsoft – Dell Partnership : All You Need To Know!

One of the biggest stories from Dell Technologies World 2019 was the new Microsoft – Dell partnership. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella himself joined Michael Dell to talk about it!

The 2019 Microsoft – Dell Partnership

Dell Technologies and Microsoft have been partners for a long time now, but at Dell Technologies World 2019, they announced that they were expanding their partnership in a number of digital transformation solutions.

Let’s take a look at what the components of the 2019 Microsoft – Dell partnership…

Azure VMware Solutions – VMware On Azure!

For the first time ever, Microsoft will offer VMware on Azure! The new Azure VMware Solutions are built on VMware Cloud Foundation, and deployed in Azure.

This would allow companies to capitalise on VMware’s trusted cloud infrastructure and the mission-critical performance of Microsoft Azure.

Hybrid Cloud Connectivity

With Azure VMware Solutions, customers will be able to seamlessly migrate, extend and run existing VMware workloads from on-premises environments to Microsoft Azure without the need to re-architect applications or retool operations.

They will also be able to build, run, manage, and secure new and existing applications across VMware environments and Microsoft Azure, while extending a single model for operations based on established tools, skills and processes as part of a hybrid cloud strategy.

Tapping Into Azure Capabilities

Azure VMware Solutions enable organisations to tap into Azure’s scale, security and fast provisioning cycles to innovate and modernise applications while also improving performance.

By integrating with native Azure services, customers can easily infuse advanced capabilities like AI, Machine Learning, and IoT into their applications enabling new, intelligent experiences.

Metal-as-a-Service

Azure VMware Solutions are first-party services from Microsoft developed in collaboration with VMware Cloud Verified partners CloudSimple and Virtustream (a Dell Technologies company).

Both CloudSimple and Virtustream run the latest VMware software-defined data center technology.

This ensures that customers enjoy the same benefits of a consistent infrastructure and consistent operations in the cloud as they achieve in their own physical data center, while allowing customers to also access the capabilities of Microsoft Azure.

New Microsoft – Dell Workspace Solutions

The 2019 Microsoft – Dell partnership also sees a collaboration in digital workspace solutions between Microsoft and both Dell Technologies and VMware.

Microsoft 365 + VMware Workspace ONE

Customers who use both Microsoft 365 and VMware Workspace ONE will now be able to leverage both solutions to maximise their investments.

Specifically, they will be able to use Workspace ONE to manage and secure Office 365 across devices through cloud-based integration with Microsoft Intune and Azure Active Directory.

Dell Provisioning Services Integration

Through the new Dell Technologies Unified Workspace, customers can leverage the integration of Microsoft Windows Autopilot and Dell Device Provisioning and Deployment Services, like Dell ProDeploy – all enabled by the integration of Microsoft 365, Workspace ONE, and Dell Provisioning Services.

Windows Virtual Desktop

Microsoft also announced Windows Virtual Desktop, the only service that delivers a multi-session Windows 10 experience, optimisations for Office 365 ProPlus, and support for Windows Server Remote Desktop Services (RDS) desktops and apps.

As a part of this agreement, VMware will extend the capabilities of Microsoft Windows Virtual Desktop to enable customers to further accelerate their cloud initiatives, leveraging VMware Horizon Cloud on Microsoft Azure.

Initial capabilities are expected to be available as a tech preview by the end of calendar year 2019.

VMware + Azure Integration

Microsoft and VMware are also exploring initiatives to drive further integration between VMware infrastructure and Azure such as integration of VMware NSX with Azure Networking and integration of specific Azure services with VMware management solutions.

They will also be exploring bringing specific Azure services to the VMware on-premises customers. Through this collaboration, the companies aim to give customers a more seamless experience across VMware and Azure environments.

Why Dell Precision Is World’s Preferred Workstation!

The innovations and reliability of the Dell Precision workstation makes it the preferred choice of the world’s biggest and best companies in every industry from manufacturing and engineering to healthcare and content creation. The world literally runs on Dell Precision workstations!

Every Precision workstation is powered by powerful Intel Core i7 or Intel Xeon processors with support for large memory and storage capacities. They are also certified for professional-grade ISV software, while offering industry-leading support with Dell ProSupport Plus.

This is why the Dell Precision is the world’s preferred workstation.

Best Workstation For Manufacturing & Engineering

Organisations like HOK, Shelby American and Monash University have long relied on Dell Precision workstations to power their mission-critical work – everything from computer-aided engineering to complex simulation and analysis.

  • Leading global design, architecture and engineering firm HOK relies on Precision workstations to engineer and design high-performance projects from 24 offices around the world.
