Grab Delivery Rider Flew To Singapore To Buy Chicken Rice?!

Did a Grab delivery rider really fly from Thailand to buy chicken rice in Singapore?!

Take a look at the viral claim, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : Grab Delivery Rider Flew To Singapore To Buy Chicken Rice!

A TikTok video, which allegedly shows a Grab delivery rider flying from Thailand to Singapore, simply to buy chicken rice, has racked up millions of views.

The 27-second video was recorded and posted by a Thai TikToker called Thita Vy, with these comments:

อยากกินขนมโตเกียว พี่เขาจะไปซื้อที่ญี่ปุ่นให้มั้ย 🤓 #วาสนาผู้ใด๋น้อ #grab #grabth

I want to eat Tokyo snacks. Will he go buy it in Japan for me? #grab #grabth

She apparently encountered this Grab delivery rider, while flying from Bangkok to Singapore. At first, she thought someone had ordered food delivery at the airport. But the man allegedly told her that he had been asked by a customer in Thailand to buy chicken rice in Singapore!

The viral video shows the man queuing up for the flight with the signature green Grab thermal bag, while holding a passport with his flight ticket. He is then shown stowing the thermal bag in the plane’s overhead compartment.

Truth : That’s Not (Really) A Grab Delivery Rider!

Now, we all know that chicken rice in Malaysia is tastier (and much cheaper!) than chicken rice in Singapore, Heck, everything is tastier and cheaper in Malaysia! 😉

In fact, Malaysian food is so delicious, someone actually sent a helicopter to collect 36 packets of Nasi Ganja from a famous nasi kandar outlet Ipoh in July 2021! But I digress…

Here is what we know so far about this viral story about chicken rice…

Fact #1 : Video Was Allegedly Recorded At DMK

According to the media outlet, 8world, the TikToker alleged that the incident occurred on 12 October 2023, at the Don Mueang International Airport.

That is plausible because the video shows people boarding an AirAsia flight, and AirAsia flies from the Bangkok Don Mueang Airport (DMK) to Changi International Airport (SIN) several times a day.

Fact #2 : The Man Flew From Bangkok To Singapore

The video shows the man holding a Thai passport, as he is waiting to board the AirAsia flight. It then cuts to the Changi International Airport, where the man is seen checking the green Grab thermal bag.

So the video does appear to show the man taking an AirAsia flight from Bangkok to Singapore. It, however, does not show him actually purchasing any chicken rice.

Fact #3 : Grab Labelled Video As Fictional

After the video went viral, Grab came out to refute the video, calling it “fictional”:

We understand that the fictional video was created by a member of the public independently.

Recommended : Did Penang Bridge Get Hit By Tornado This Morning?!

Fact #4 : Man Was Not A Registered Grab Delivery Rider

In addition, a Grab spokesperson said that it does not offer cross-border food delivery services, and the man in the video was not registered with them as “a delivery partner”:

We do not offer such a service, and the person starring as a delivery partner in the video is not registered with Grab.

It is certainly plausible for rich folks to go to extreme measures to get their favourite foods. For example, Macau tycoon Stanley Ho famously sent 88 Musang King (Mao Shan Wang) durians on a private plane from Singapore to Hong Kong. Note – the durians were from Malaysia. 😉

That said, it doesn’t make sense for the man to put on a Grab uniform, or bring the Grab thermal bag… especially if he isn’t actually a Grab delivery rider!

Fact #5 : Grab Does Not Offer Cross-Border Food Deliveries

Grab said that it does not offer cross-border food deliveries. The only cross-border delivery service Grab offers is its 100+ Cities Delivery service, which is in beta testing.

Even that option only allows users to “order and send food and physical gifts from GrabFood and GrabMart merchant-partners that are available in the recipient’s city within an hour”.

In other words – the food and physical gifts must already be present in the recipient’s city. The only thing that is “cross-border” is the ability to order from another country.

New Taxes On Small Online Purchases + Delivery In Malaysia!

There will soon be new taxes on small online purchases and delivery in Malaysia! Here is what you need to know…

New Taxes On Small Online Purchases + Delivery In Malaysia!

There will be soon new taxes on low-value purchases from overseas, and delivery services in Malaysia!

These taxes were announced in Budget 2022, but you may not be aware of it.

6% Service Tax On Delivery Services

From 1 July 2022 onwards, delivery services are subject to 6% service tax, for delivering goods other than food and beverages, and logistics delivery services.

This 6% service tax applies to e-commerce platforms as well, so expect the cost to be passed to you – the customer.

10% Sales Tax On Low Value Imports

Currently, goods imported from overseas that are delivered via courier services through specific international airports in Malaysia are not subject to the 10% sales. tax, if the value of each consignment (parcel) does not exceed RM 500.

Budget 2022 removed that exemption, which means all imported goods will be taxed, regardless of value.

From 1 January 2023 onwards, online sellers of low value imported goods delivered by air courier worth less than RM 500 per consignment must charge their customers a 10% sales tax. Otherwise, the purchaser will be subject to an import tax.

This sales tax applies to both local and foreign merchants. But the government has yet to reveal the mechanism by which foreign merchants will register, process and forward the collected sales tax.

Why New Taxes On Small Online Purchases + Delivery?!

Taxing low cost value goods purchased overseas is a way to level the playing field between local and foreign manufacturers.

Malaysian products are already subject to a 5% or 10% sales tax, which places them at a disadvantage when competing with low value imports that are currently tax-free.

That’s why many countries like Australia and New Zealand implement similar taxes, to align with local sales tax.

Even Singapore will be implementing a 7% GST on low value goods (LVG) from 1 January 2023 onwards, increasing it to 9% by 2025.

This sales tax on imported LVG will no doubt raise revenue for the government, but it is inline with what other countries are implementing to level the playing field, and encourage purchases of local products.

The 10% sales tax may seem high, but it does not apply to low value goods imported via sea or land.

This sales tax will not affect the RM1,000 exemption for travellers bringing in goods purchased overseas through the seven designated international airports in Malaysia.

The 6% service tax on delivery services is a new revenue stream for the government, although they have exempted food and beverage deliveries, as well as logistics deliveries.

Whatever the reasons are – expect to pay more for your online purchases!

GrabUnlimited : Is It Worth Becoming A Member?

GrabUnlimited offers a large number of discount vouchers, and the opportunity to earn rebates!

Find out what GrabUnlimited really is all about, and whether it’s worth becoming a member!

GrabUnlimited : What Is It?

GrabUnlimited is a subscription plan that offers discount vouchers, and special promotions for Grab services.

Here are some of the benefits that the GrabUnlimited subscription offers :

Special June Promotions

  • 4 x GrabFood discount vouchers (up to 50%) + free delivery (cannot be used at peak hours or in Penang)
  • 6 x GrabFood discount vouchers (up to 38%) + free delivery (cannot be used in Penang)
  • Only in Penang : 10 x GrabFood discount vouchers (up to 50%) + free delivery

Standard Subscription Vouchers

  • 50 x GrabFood free delivery vouchers (up to RM3 off)
  • 10 x GrabMart free delivery vouchers (up to RM3 off)
  • 10 x GrabFood discount vouchers (15% off, only for self pick-up)
  • 1 x RM5 Grab Ride discount (Malaysian airport rides only)

Unlimited Benefits

  • RM1 GrabFood premium delivery discount
  • JustGrab (Top-Rated Drivers) in selected cities (from 9 June 2022 onwards)
  • Earn up to 1.5% in GrabRewards (instead of just 0.5% for non-members)
You will get 1.5 GrabRewards for every RM1 spent, instead of just RM0.75.
  • Monthly Grab Hot Deals are now limited to GrabUnlimited members.

GrabUnlimited : My Humble Opinion

GrabUnlimited is being pitched to the media as a great way to save and earn money (paradoxical, I know!).

At first glance, it does look attractive, offering you 38% or 50% discount vouchers, as well as free delivery vouchers worth RM180. And who doesn’t want to “earn” 1.5%?

The real purpose though is to lock you into their platform, to discourage you from using their rivals / alternatives.

And if you look at the fine print, you will realise that those benefits and vouchers come with caveats that make them much less attractive.

  • You get 1.5 GrabRewards for every RM1 you spend – twice that of non-members, which you can use to redeem discounted Grab vouchers for a rebate “up to 1.5%”.
  • The 50% discount voucher is really a RM8.50 discount voucher with a minimum spend of RM20. The additional discount comes from Grab automatically applying one of the GrabUnlimited RM3 free delivery vouchers. It is also limited to “selected restaurants”.
  • The 38% discount voucher is really a RM7.50 discount voucher with a minimum spend of RM25. The additional discount comes from Grab automatically applying one of the GrabUnlimited RM3 free delivery vouchers. It is also limited to “selected restaurants”.
  • The 15% off Self Pick-Up discount is capped at RM12, which works out to a maximum order value of RM80.
  • The RM3 GrabFood free delivery voucher requires a minimum spend of RM20, and is not valid for Mix & Match orders.
  • The RM3 GrabMart free delivery voucher requires a minimum spend of RM40, and is not valid for Mix & Match orders.

That is why Grab limited their monthly Hot Deals and Top-Rated Drivers to GrabUnlimited members. They used to be available to everyone.

That does not mean it’s a bad idea to subscribe. If you use Grab regularly to order food or grocery deliveries, you can save quite a lot. You just have to make sure you meet the voucher requirements.

And you should definitely not fall into the trap of only using Grab. Always check alternative delivery services to see if they offer a better deal.

Finally, if you do not use Grab regularly (like me), you should obviously not subscribe at all. It would only be a waste of your money.

DHL eCommerce Central Hub Temporarily Suspended!

DHL eCommerce had to close their Central Hub in Selangor, and it remains suspended today!

Find out what’s going on, and the impact on your parcel deliveries!

DHL eCommerce Central Hub Temporarily Suspended!

On 13 August 2021, DHL eCommerce announced that they were ordered by the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) to temporarily close their Central Hub in Selangor.

They did not disclose whether it had anything to do with rumours of COVID-19 cases involving their delivery or sorting personnel, only that it was for “further assessment & discussion“, following “precautionary checks done by KKM in the area“.

As of Monday, 16 August 2021, the DHL eCommerce has not announced when their Central Hub in Selangor, which remains closed, will reopen.

Impact Of DHL eCommerce Central Hub Closure

DHL suspended collection of new parcels since 14 August 2021, but said that existing parcels in their network will be delivered.

However, it is unknown if they are also referring to parcels at their Central Hub (which is now closed), or merely parcels already distributed to their regional hubs.

This is reminiscent of when the Shopee warehouse was similarly closed “to implement new SOPs“.

At that time, the Shopee warehouse was closed for 10 days – the minimum days required for a home quarantine of confirmed or suspect COVID-19 cases.

Was Shopee Warehouse Closed After 50 COVID-19 Cases?

Did the Ministry of Health shut down the Shopee warehouse after 50 employees were infected with COVID-19?

Take a look at the COVID-19 rumour that went viral, and find out what happened!

Claim : Shopee Warehouse Closed After 50 COVID-19 Cases!

This short warning, which came with two photos, went viral on WhatsApp.

It suggested that the Shopee warehouse was shut down by the Ministry of Health, after 50 employees tested positive for COVID-19!

50 Shopee’s employees infected. Please spray your parcels with disinfectant when you receive them.

Shopee Warehouse Closed, Not Because Of COVID-19 Cases?

The notice of closure by the Malaysia Ministry of Health (KKM) is genuine, but Shopee claims that they are unrelated to the allegations of COVID-19 cases.

Here is what we know so far…

Fact #1 : Shopee Denies Warehouse Closure Due To COVID-19 Cases

On 10 July 2021, Shopee claimed that the closure of their warehouse has “nothing to do with the alleged COVID-19 cases“.

They did not confirm or deny the alleged COVID-19 cases, or whether any of their employees recently tested positive for COVID-19.

Fact #2 : Pictures Of Police From Earlier Inspection

The pictures that were shared with the rumour was not from 9 July 2021, but a week earlier.

On 3 July 2021, Shah Alam district police officers inspected the Shopee warehouse to check for EMCO SOP compliance.

During that inspection, they identified an issue at the Shopee warehouse involving the registration of daily part-time workers in the COVID Intelligent Management System (CIMS).

Due to a misunderstanding of the SOP, Shopee was fined RM10,000.

The 9 July 2021 closure of the Shopee warehouse was unrelated to this 3 July incident.

Fact #3 : Shopee Warehouse Closed To Implement New SOPs

According to Shopee, they received guidance on additional SOP from KKM to implement in their Shah Alam warehouse, because Shah Alam is under EMCO restrictions.

They claimed that the guidance was very helpful, and thus their “warehouse will be closed temporarily to implement these added SOPs as quickly as possible“.

Fact #4 : KKM Ordered Shopee Warehouse Closure

However, the KKM notice tells a different story. It is an official Notis Perintah Tutup Premis (Notice of Premise Closure Order).

That was not a suggestion or guidance by KKM. It was an order to close the Shopee warehouse at the Mapletree Logistics Hub, from 9 July until 16 July 2021.

However, this does not mean that the rumours of 50 infected Shopee employees are true. It merely tells us that the closure of the Shopee warehouse was mandatory, not a suggestion.

Fact #5 : Warehouse Parcel Deliveries Will Be Delayed

While Shopee is assuring everyone that their platform is “operating per business as usual”, they admitted that there will be delays “for deliveries via our warehouse”.

They said that buyers whose orders are affected will receive an alert via push notifications in their Shopee account.

This is further evidence that the warehouse closure was not a suggestion, but an order that must be complied with.

Shopee Statement On Warehouse Closure Over COVID-19 Concerns

This is the 10 July 2021 statement by Shopee on their warehouse closure over COVID-19 concerns/

Dear valued Shopee users,

Shopee is cooperating very closely with the authorities who are working hard to fight Covid-19 in the country. On 9 July 2021,we received some guidance from the Ministry of Health (MOH) on additional Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) they suggested for us to implement at our Shah Alam warehouse. This is because Shah Alam has been placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order. It has nothing to do with the alleged Covid-19 cases, and the inspection is separate from the one conducted by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) on 3 July.

The guidance is very helpful and our warehouse will be closed temporarily to implement these added SOPs as quickly as possible.

To clarify, the Shopee platform is operating per business as usual and deliveries made by Shopee Express and all our other delivery partners are not affected. Some delays may occur and only for deliveries via our warehouse, which are a small portion of overall orders. Buyers whose orders are affected will also receive an alert via push notifications in their Shopee account.

Rest assured it does not impact our overall platform operations and we continue to provide Shopee users with all your needs.

We seek your patience and understanding as this is a national matter and we all have a part to play in the fight against Covid-19. Thank you for all your support and we will provide updates on the situation via our official social media accounts.

Thank you.

FMCO: Restaurants + Eateries Can Open From 6AM To 10PM!

MKN just announced that restaurants and eateries will now be allowed to open from 6 AM until 10 PM during FMCO 3.0!

Here is what we know so far…

FMCO : Restaurants + Eateries Can Open From 6 AM To 10 PM!

When the FMCO 3.0 (Full MCO 3.0) was announced, restaurants and food outlets were only allowed to open from 8 AM until 8 PM.

However, this limited operational time meant that many restaurants and food outlets were not able to prepare their food in time for dinner takeaways or delivery before they had to shut down by 8 PM.

The good news is that MKN just announced that, from 28 June 2021 onwards, restaurants and food outlets will now be allowed to open from 6 AM until 10 PM!

This extended operating hours will allow restaurants and other food outlets more time to make their food and beverages available for sale.

This was part of Phase 2, but has now been brought forward.

Dining in is still not allowed. Only takeaway, drive-through and food deliveries are allowed.

Dining in will only be allowed in Phase 3 of FMCO 3.0, and limited to two persons to each table.

MCO : Can Strata Residents Directly Receive Parcels / Food?

Can strata property residents directly receive parcels or food deliveries directly at their units during MCO?

Let’s find out what KPKT and MKN actually said about this issue.

Strata Residents CANNOT Directly Receive Parcels / Food During MCO?

On 17 June 2021, SelangorKini reported (in BM) that strata property managements are prohibited from allowing residents to directly receive parcels or food deliveries at their units.

Strata property covers not just condominiums and apartments, but also flats, townhouses and even landed homes in gated and guarded communities.

Here is our English translation of what the Head of the Strata Management Enforcement Unit, Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Inspector Mohammad Izzat Hassan, said :

If they allow the dispatcher or the visitor to enter the occupant’s residence, compound action can be imposed for violating the SOP (standard operating procedures) set by the National Security Council (MKN).

Apart from ensuring the safety of all, we also want to prevent the Covid-19 epidemic from spreading. No more compromises and action will be taken if anyone breaks the rules.

Surprise : Strata Residents Are ALLOWED To Directly Receive Parcels / Food During MCO!

With some help from Steven Khoo, Chairman of Surian Condominiums Management Corporation, we looked into this issue, and came to the surprising conclusion that strata residents are ALLOWED to directly receive parcels or food during MCO!

Strata Management Sector SOP By MKN

If we refer to the latest MKN SOP for the Strata Management Sector (11 June 2021 edition), it seems clear that postal, courier and delivery services are only allowed to send their food, parcels, packages to a designated area.

They are asked to employ a contactless delivery method to reduce the risk of infection, and so delivering to a designated area seems like a logical decision.

Strata Management Sector FAQ By KPKT

However, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) itself issued their MCO FAQ for the Strata Management Sector.

In their latest 3 June 2021 edition, it is stated that the strata management is permitted to use their own discretion to allow the delivery of goods and food directly to the unit.

Here is our English translation of this section of the KPKT FAQ :

What about postal, courier and delivery workers (FoodPanda, Grabfood and so on)?

Postal workers, couriers and delivery workers (FoodPanda, Grabfood and etc.) are allowed to deliver the goods at the place designated by the management, after clearing the body temperature screening test.

The Management may use their discretion to allow delivery workers to deliver goods / food directly to the unit.

So it appears that KPKT has left it to the Strata Property Management to decide whether to allow residents to directly receive parcels and food from delivery services, or not.

Until and unless KPKT changes this FAQ, any fines by their own Strata Management Enforcement Unit will likely have to be cancelled, like what happened when the Manjung Police wrongly fined factory workers for not updating MySejahtera on a daily basis!

MKN Hotline Confirms Management Discretion

The Surian Condominiums Management Corporation contacted the MKN Hotline about this issue on 18 June 2021.

Puan Nurul from MKN confirmed that it is up to the Management’s prerogative, whether to allow direct delivery of goods and food to the strata units or not.

So there you have it – confirmation from KPKT and MKN that direct deliveries of parcels, packages and food to your strata unit is ALLOWED, as long as it is PERMITTED by the Management of your strata property!

Thats why now it has spread everywhere in Kuantan.

Beware, make sure you sanitize every parcel, letter or delivered foods package upon receiving.

No! He Did NOT Die From COVID-19 Contaminated Package!

Like 95% of what you read on social media, this is yet another piece of fake news. Here are the FACTS…

Fact #1 : No 20 Year-Old Man Was Brought In Dead In Pahang

Our sister site, The Rojak Pot has a running list of all COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia.

If you search the list, you will see that only two 20 year-old males died in Malaysia :

  • Case 252679 : 20 year-old Malaysian male, who passed away at the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor.
  • Death #2417 : 20 year-old Malaysian male from KL, who passed away at the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor.

As you can see, neither died in Pahang, and they both died in a hospital. Neither were brought in dead to the hospital.

Fact #2 : Pahang Health Department Called It Fake News

On 30 May 2021, the Pahang State Department denied that a 20 year-old man from Taman Tan passed away from COVID-19.

The Pahang State Health director, Datuk Dr. Bahari Che Awang Ngah said that only 58 people died in Pahang, and the youngest was a 23 year-old man.

He also said that the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital did not receive any BID (Brought In Dead) cases involving individuals in their 20s.

Fact #3 :  Fomite Transmission Is Rare

Early studies show that the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 can persist on surfaces for a long time.

However, later quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA) studies show that the risk of getting infected through contact with contaminated surfaces / objects (fomites) is low.

How low? Generally, less than 1 in 10,000 contacts with a contaminated surface will result in a COVID-19 infection.

While not impossible, it is much harder to get infected from touching contaminated surfaces or objects, because you have to then touch your eyes, nose or mouth with your contaminated hands to get infected.

That is likely why there have been no COVID-19 clusters attributed to packages / parcels delivered by couriers or mail services.

Fact #4 :  COVID-19 Primarily Spreads Through People

The SARS-CoV-2 virus primarily spreads through droplets, as well as through aerosol, from infected people. It does not spread by touch.

Hence, the best policy for courier or mail services is to insist that EVERYONE must wear a face mask.

This prevents direct transmission by droplets, and greatly cuts down on aerosols. And best of all – it prevents the parcels and packages from being contaminated!

If everyone wears a face mask, fomites – contaminated surfaces or objects – will be virtually non-existent.

Fact #5 :  COVID-19 Is Easily Destroyed By Soap!

While Dettol can kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus, there is no need to go to such extremes. Simple soap and water will destroy the virus!

If you are super worried about contaminated packages, just wiped them down (if they’re wrapped in plastic) with soapy water, or alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

Fact #6 :  You Can’t Get Contaminated If You Sanitise Your Hands!

Instead of worrying so much about getting your hands contaminated with COVID-19, just sanitise them!

You can’t get COVID-19 from contaminated surfaces if you keep your hands clean!

Just wash your hands with soap and water after opening the parcel, or sanitise them using hand sanitiser (with at least 60% alcohol).

This isn’t just my advice, this is what the US CDC recommends too!

Online Shopping Package Wrapped In Pink Underwear!

We are used to all kinds of packaging for online purchases, but this is the first time we have seen a package wrapped in pink underwear!

Delivery Mystery : Package Wrapped In Pink Underwear!

Online shopping is all the rage during the pandemic, and we are used to all manners of packaging. Everything from cardboard boxes and bubble wrap, to plastic bags and styrofoam boxes.

But this is the first time we have ever seen a cardboard package wrapped in pink underwear!

On 7 February 2021, Mamaayu Admia Ayunormaslinda shared about how her husband received a package from J&T Express. Not only was the box beaten up, it came wrapped in pink underwear!

The J&T Express delivery man was tickled by the odd packaging, but said that he was delivering the package as received.

To be clear, she ordered pencil boxes for her children, not underwear. So it was not a case of a package of underwear being torn, and someone at J&T Express just wrapping an errant underwear over the package, instead of stuffing it back inside.

Package Wrapped In Pink Underwear : Who Did It?

As this case came right after the J&T Express worker controversy, netizens suggested that it may be a case of “protest” or “sabotage” by disgruntled J&T Express workers.

After all, no vendor would actually ship their parcels wrapped in underwear. That’s a sure way to become infamous and possibly lose customers.

This led some netizens to accuse Mamaayu of making up the story.

But this “wrapping” was peculiar enough that someone working at J&T Express noticed it earlier and took a picture of it.

Ain Nurza, posted this picture below, saying that her husband who works at J&T Express found the package already wrapped in the pink underwear earlier.

The box looks to be in good condition and not beaten up, so this must have been early in the delivery process.

With this corroborating picture from a third-party, it is clear that Mamaayu was not making up the story.

It seems most likely that someone at another J&T Express hub wrapped the package with this pink underwear as a prank, or as a form of protest or sabotage in relation to the alleged cuts in commission.

J&T Express Worker Strike Over Pay Cut Clarified!

Viral videos have surfaced, allegedly showing J&T Express workers on strike over a pay cut!

Take a look at the videos, and find out what really happened!

J&T Express Worker Strike Over Pay Cut?

Several videos have surfaced, allegedly showing J&T Express workers on strike over a pay cut.

One of them, in particular, showed J&T Express workers shouting, with one worker standing on a conveyor belt throwing parcels.

According to various netizens, the J&T Express workers were angry and on strike, because their commissions were cut.

The other videos showed what appears to be a J&T fulfilment centre full of undelivered parcels with no one in sight. They appear to be genuine, with J&T logo on some of the parcels.

Coincidentally or not, Muhammad Syazwan Samat just received this brand new PC case from J&T Express.

And one family received their package wrapped in pink underwear!

J&T Express confirmed the incident, and clarified that it was a misunderstanding by several workers who did not understand their year-end bonus plan.

J&T Express in Perak then shared a video of seven workers saying that they did not strike, and apologising for abusing the packages.

On the other hand, this internal memo showed that J&T introduced a new, lower commission rate for their delivery dispatchers from 1 February 2021 onwards.

J&T Express On Viral Video Of Worker Strike

On 7 February 2021, J&T Express finally issued a statement about these viral videos :

The recent viral case which has been circulated on social media regarding “J&T Deducts Employee Wages Incident” that caused the dissatisfaction among employees with violent sorting behaviour, which has attracted the attention and discussion of the public, inside and outside the industry.

First of all, we express our deepest apologies to all Malaysians. Everyone’s opinions and suggestions are truly accepted and adopted by the company. In order to ensure the stability of our employees and to give the public a true accountability, we take this opportunity to clarify the truth to the public today.

“Deduction of Employee Wages Incident”:

J&T has been fully committed to localisation development, continuously improving employee compensation and benefits, and promoting the development of Malaysia’s social economy and E-commerce Industry. We have been committed to building a complete compensation and benefits system to increase employee benefits.

J&T has given employees year-end bonuses after comprehensive consideration, in accordance with the bonus rules and regulations, and in accordance with the Malaysian Labour Law, full bonuses are paid to employees who have worked for a year.

For employees who have worked for less than a year, bonuses are paid according to the length of working time without prejudice.

Unfortunately, certain employees are not clear about the bonus payment scheme which led to violent sorting of packages on February 4th, inciting some employees to make collective disturbances, and posting the videos to social media.

Our Perak state management has immediately handled and clarified the incident. On February 5th, the employees had resumed their normal working status and actively sorted and processed the packages of customers.

As for the fact that J&T deducts employee wages, we clarify that J&T will not deduct or owe employees a penny of wages, and hereby declare that we are willing to accept the supervision and inspection by the public and institutions.
