CD PROJEKT RED just had their source codes and internal documents stolen in a MAJOR HACK, and they may all end up being leaked!

 

CD PROJEKT RED Hack : Source Codes Stolen, Servers Encrypted!

On 9 February 2021, CD PROJEKT RED announced that their data – including source codes and internal documents – were stolen in a hack, and could possibly be leaked.

Their servers were also encrypted in a secondary ransomware attack by the same hackers, but they had backups of the encrypted data.

CD PROJEKT RED publicly ruled out negotiating with the hackers, or giving in to their demands.

This would likely mean that their source codes and internal documents will eventually be released publicly by the hackers.

The only silver lining – CD PROJEKT RED noted that they do not have any evidence that the personal data of their employees were accessed or stolen.

 

CD PROJEKT RED Hack : The Hackers’ Threats

According to the ransom note left on their servers, the hackers stole :

  • FULL source codes for Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, GWENT and the unreleased version of Witcher 3.
  • ALL of their internal documents on accounting, administration, legal, HR, investor relations and more

They also encrypted all of their CD PROJEKT RED’s servers, but acknowledged that they would most likely recover the data from their backups.

The hackers are giving the CD PROJEKT RED team 48 hours to contact them to negotiate.

If there is no agreement, they threaten to sell or leak the source codes, and release their internal documents to the media.

They claim that the internal documents will make CD PROJEKT RED look bad, causing their stock prices to fall and their investors will lose trust in them.

 

CD PROJEKT RED : Official Statement On Hack

This is the official statement by CD PROJEKT RED on the hack :

Yesterday we discovered that we have become a victim of a targeted cyber attack, due to which some of our internal systems have been compromised.

An unidentified actor gained unauthorized access to our internal network, collected certain data belonging to CD PROJEKT capital group, and left a ransom note the content of which we release to the public. Although some devices in our network have been encrypted, our backups remain intact. We have already secured our IT infrastructure and begun restoring the data.

We will not give in to the demands nor negotiate with the factor, being aware that this may eventually lead to the release of the compromised data. We are taking necessary steps to mitigate the consequences of such a release, in particular by approaching any parties that may be affected due to the breach.

We are still investigating the incident, however at this t time we can confirm that – to the best of our knowledge – the compromised systems did not contain any personal data of our players or users of our services.

We have already approached the relevant authorities, including law enforcement and the President of the Personal Data Protection Office, as well as IT forensic specialists, and we will closely cooperate with them in order to fully investigate the incident.

NTT Launches Fifth Data Center In Malaysia – Cyberjaya 5

On 3 February 2021, NTT Ltd announced the launch of their fifth data center in Malaysia – Cyberjaya 5 (CBJ5).

Located within the NTT Cyberjaya Campus, this new 107,000 square feet data center is designed for hyperscalers and high-end enterprises in Malaysia’s growing digital economy.

CBJ5 supports 6.5 megawatts of flexible and scalable power, and boasts a Tier IV-ready, compact and modular design, with a cooling wall system that handles up to 15 kilowatts per rack.

NTT clients will have greater access to flexible, scalable and secure infrastructure in Malaysia – a regional data center hub.

“The demand for data storage and managed hosting services is expected to grow exponentially across Malaysia. This fifth data center will meet the expanding needs of organizations to reach their digital business objectives, in particular the FSI sector, as our data center complies with the Risk Management in Technology (RMiT) guideline set by Bank Negara Malaysia. We hope to play a key role in providing the vital data capacity at a high speed to keep Malaysia’s digital ecosystems and the digital economy ticking.” said Henrick Choo, CEO, NTT Ltd. in Malaysia.

 

NTT Cyberjaya 5 : Part Of Strategic ASEAN Hub

CBJ5 is connected to the existing Asia Submarine-cable Express (ASE) and Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) cable system, and will eventually be linked to the upcoming MIST cable system.

The MIST cable system will be available by end 2022 and it is a strategic joint venture for international submarine cables in South East Asia, with Orient Link Pte. Ltd.. It will enable NTT Ltd. to expand its offerings into India and beyond, while the ASE and APG cable systems provide global connectivity from Asia to United States.

This new expansion in Malaysia is part of NTT Global Data Centres division’s growth strategy. Malaysia is a prime data centre market in the ASEAN region, due to the abundant availability of resources, and favourable government policies.

“NTT places Asia Pacific as a tactical key region, and Malaysia – a strategic hub for the submarine cables operated by NTT such as the new MIST cable system, as well as the existing Asia Submarine-cable Express (ASE) and Asia Pacific Gateway (APG). JomHack Hackathon: Smart Cities With LoRa

Cyberjaya, 11 August 2016 – The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Cyberview Sdn Bhd – the Cyberjaya Tech Hub Enabler – together with The Things Network Netherlands and Pixaworks Creative Sdn Bhd recently successfully completed a 24-hour Internet of Things (IoT) hackathon known as JomHack: IoT for Smart Cities with LoRa. Held from 5-7th August at the Cyberview Living Lab in Cyberjaya, the event saw 30 teams, each comprising three members with various computer programming, application development and engineering backgrounds, collaborate and develop usable IoT solutions which can be adopted and implemented in Cyberjaya, within the allocated 24 hours. Commenting on the inaugural 2016 event, Dato’ Yasmin Mahmood, Chief Executive Officer, MDEC said, “The IoT represents the next frontier of Information Technology, with tremendous new capabilities waiting to be explored. With JomHack, we are a step closer to transforming the nation and fundamentally reshaping the way our cities operate. Through the partnership with Cyberview Living Lab, The Things Network and the ideas we see brought to life by the participants, we look forward to planning the future of our connected Malaysia.”  

JomHack Hackathon Winners

Ten winning projects were shortlisted with the top three teams selected as grand winners based on their ability to build IoT solutions around the “Smart Cities” theme, real-world application, innovation and individual capabilities of the teams: Seven other winners from the top ten received RM300 as consolation prizes. For 28-year old startup founder Leong Yok Tien, the win was a pleasant surprise to him and the team, “It’s an honour for us to be recognised at this hackathon, given the brilliance showcased by the participants here. With our project, we hope this would soon address the common yet critical water leakage problems in our country, and we look forward to seeing the related parties adopting our solution in real-life application.” Participants also made use of Long Range (LoRa) technology – a signal modulation technique that provides long-range communication link for low-power wide-area network which can reach up to 2-3 km in urban areas and over 15 km in sub-urban areas. The technology was provided by The Things Network (TTN) Netherland – a global, open, crowd-sourced Internet of Things data network with over 200 communities worldwide. Johan Stokking, co-founder and technology lead of the TTN said at the judging ceremony that he was largely impressed with the determination and innovation presented despite the time constraint for the participants. He enthused, “Part of becoming a smarter city involves setting up the right opportunity and infrastructure that invites community participation. JomHack certainly hit its mark with these brilliant pitches from its very talented community from all over the country. I’m happy to surmise that everyone here is without a doubt, the best group of hackathon participants I have ever seen.” Sharing his thoughts on JomHack, Mahadhir Aziz, Head of Technology Hub Development Division, Cyberview Sdn Bhd said, “Innovation is at the heart of daily life here in Cyberjaya. As Malaysia’s Capital of Creation, we are beyond excited to have played host to such a prestigious event. Through this collaboration with MDEC and The Things Network Netherland, we are proud to be part of a movement that could improve the living experience of the community in the long term.
