How WithSecure Offensive Security Drives Business Resilience!

WithSecure also introduced three groundbreaking services that amplify their commitment to ‘outcome-based security’ and ‘co-security’. This groundbreaking development was revealed by WithSecure Executive Vice President (Solutions) Scott Reininga, also at the SPHERE security conference 2023.

Reininga underscored WithSecure’s unparalleled expertise in offensive security, revealing that they are the home of one of the world’s most proficient offensive security teams. This team, a fusion of penetration testers (pentesters), red, blue and purple teamers, has profound knowledge of adversary tactics, tradecraft, and techniques.

Penetration testing is a cybersecurity practice that aims to discover vulnerabilities in a system by simulating controlled attacks. Their goal is not to cause damage but to pinpoint weaknesses for rectification. This proactive method, which can involve exploiting software vulnerabilities or simulating social engineering tactics, is key in any comprehensive cybersecurity strategy, offering a practical evaluation of potential risks rather than a theoretical one.

Our relentless pursuit of research and system testing allows us to uncover system vulnerabilities proactively. This crucial data is the building block of our products that are proactive, minimally disruptive, and crafted from the perspective of an attacker.

– Scott Reininga, WithSecure Executive Vice President (Solutions)

These insights were unveiled by Reininga during his recent product launch event titled ‘Co-security and co-managed services for partners’. He was joined on stage by WithSecure Vice President (Offering and Customer Experience) Niko Isotalo.

Expanding on WithSecure’s strategic approach, Isotalo said that the company’s outcome-based security framework model “connects Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and board members, offering clarity about the interplay between security outcomes and business objectives.”

This alignment clarifies the indispensable role of security in the core business framework to board members.

– Niko Isotalo, WithSecure Vice President (Offering and Customer Experience)

Reininga and Isotalo unveiled the three new offerings during their joint session. The first, termed “co-monitoring,” is a partnership model. WithSecure validates the genuineness of security incidents before alerting the duty manager, effectively curbing false alarms.

WithSecure collaborates with clients to supervise their digital ecosystems, particularly during periods when they are stretched thin on resources. This service, providing support beyond standard working hours, can also deliver round-the-clock monitoring if necessary.

Isotalo further introduced the second service, incident readiness software, recognising that many organisations lack comprehensive incident readiness plans.

Our software simplifies the creation, testing, and updating of such plans, which serve as essential shields against cyber threats.

Focusing on the urgency of immediate incident response, Reininga introduced the third service, an incident response retainer.

Our incident response retainer provides unlimited incident response within the critical initial 72 hours of an event. We eliminate the need for negotiation about budget and resource allocation.

We engage consultants rapidly, supported by our globally lauded 24/7 incident response team and top-tier threat intelligence unit, guaranteeing our customers industry-leading service level agreements (SLAs).

By integrating offensive security acumen, co-monitoring capabilities, incident readiness software, and swift incident response, WithSecure empowers organisations to effectively safeguard their digital assets and curtail the impact of potential breaches.

WithSecure Takes Offensive Security Approach To Cloud Threats!

WithSecure is harnessing the power of the offensive security approach in tackling evolving cloud threats!

WithSecure Takes Offensive Security Approach For Cloud Threats!

In a shifting cybersecurity landscape, WithSecure (formerly known as ‘F-Secure Business’) is harnessing the power of offensive security in its co-security and co-monitoring products and services. This revolutionary approach is designed to anticipate and mitigate cyber threats by understanding them from an attacker’s perspective.

During the recent SPHERE security conference 2023 in Helsinki, Finland, WithSecure’s Chief Product Officer, Antti Koskela, shed light on this approach.

We’ve done identity assessments for many cloud-based companies, unveiling weaknesses in their cloud platforms.

Our offensive security approach is about understanding the attack surface of a cloud-based estate. We focus on the digital perimeter, which is crucial to reducing the overall attack surface.

Koskela went on to explain that WithSecure has distilled this insight into an innovative managed service offering called ‘attack surface management’. This service provides a comprehensive view of a company’s vulnerabilities, including IP addresses, port vulnerabilities, exposed APIs and web services, identity matters, patching levels and more.

With more open architecture, control over your attack surface becomes paramount. ‘Zero trust’ alone isn’t the answer as human errors happen. Our holistic approach helps mitigate this.

Recommended : Avanade + Accenture: 2023 Microsoft Global SI Partner of the Year!

WithSecure’s product suite integrates various cloud-native solutions to deliver protection based on specific client requirements. This collaborative process, termed ‘co-security’, is driven by the security and business outcomes defined by the clients. Koskela emphasised the tripartite focus of their solution:

It’s about process, people, and technology. We collaborate to secure the outcomes, letting company directors steer the course of business.

Our WithSecure Elements platform is the cornerstone of our technology, built collaboratively with our clients.

Koskela acknowledged the evolution of the IT industry, from client-server in the ‘90s to hosted services in the 2000s, cloud computing in the 2010s and cloud-native in the 2020s. He underscored the need for a new security approach to match the evolving business environments:

The cloud offers agility, speed, cost-efficiency. But with new technologies come new security considerations.

WithSecure has been proactive, creating solutions for every technological shift – be it firewalling and endpoint protection during the hosted services era, or data security and VPNs for the cloud computing era.

And now, with the rise of cloud-native tech, we’re helping clients to understand and secure their digital perimeter through our offensive security approach.

China Fines Didi Global $1.2 Billion For Violating Laws!

China just fined Didi Global a whopping $1.2 billion for violating its cybersecurity, data security and privacy laws!

China Fines Didi Global $1.2 Billion For Violating Laws!

On Thursday, 21 July 2022, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) announced that Didi Global breached the country’s cybersecurity law, data security law, and personal information protection law.

The Chinese cyberspace regulator fined Didi Global 8 billion yuan ($1.2 billion), as well as a personal fine of 1 million yuan ($148,000) each on Chairman and CEO Cheng Wei, as well as President Liu Qing (also known as Jean Liu).

The facts of violations of laws and regulations are clear, the evidence is conclusive, the circumstances are serious, and the nature is vile.

Didi Global responded to the regulator’s announcement with a contrite statement “sincerely” accepting the judgement and penalties :

We sincerely accept this decision, and resolutely obey it. We will strictly follow the penalty decision and the requirements of relevant laws and regulations, conduct comprehensive and in-depth self-examination, and actively cooperate with supervision and complete rectification carefully.

We will take this as a warning and further strengthen the construction of cyberspace security and data security, strengthen the protection of personal information, and earnestly fulfill our social responsibilities. We will serve every passenger, driver and partner well, and realize the safe, healthy and sustainable development of the enterprise.

What Did Didi Do To Incur China’s Wrath?

According to an FAQ by the CAC, its investigators started their investigation of Didi in July 2021.

After conducting an extensive investigation, they found that Didi conducted data processing activities that “seriously affected national security”, and refused to comply with “the explicit requirements of regulatory authorities” and conducted “malicious evasion” of regulatory supervision.

They also stated that Didi Global committed 16 violations of China’s laws, including :

  1. Didi illegally collected 11.9639 million screenshots from its users’ mobile phone photo albums.
  2. Didi excessively collected 8.323 billion pieces of its users’ clipboard information, and application list information.
  3. Didi excessively collected 107 million pieces of passenger face recognition information, and 53.5092 million pieces of age group information, 16.3556 million pieces of occupational information, 1.3829 million pieces of family relationship information, and 153 million pieces of taxi address information.
  4. Didi excessively collected passengers’ evaluation of the drivers, when the app is running in the background, and 167 million pieces of precise location (longitude and latitude).
  5. Didi excessively collected 142,900 pieces of driver education information, and 53.976 billion pieces of “intent information”, 1.538 billion pieces of resident city information, and 304 million pieces of non-local business/travel information.
  6. Its users are frequently asked to provide “telephone permissions” while using its services.
  7. Inaccurate and clear description of user personal information processing, including device information.

The CAC noted that Didi started its bad practices in June 2015, and continued even after the Cybersecurity Law was implemented in June 2017, the Data Security Law started in January 2022, and the Personal Information Protection Law was implemented in November 2021.

How Central Medicare Leveraged Ruckus For Digital Transformation!

Find out how Central Medicare leveraged Ruckus network technologies to digitally transform and rapidly expand their business!

Central Medicare Undergoes Digital Transformation + Rapid Expansion

Central Medicare Sdn. Bhd. (CMSB) is a nitrile glove manufacturer, that started with a single manufacturing facility with 6 production lines and an annual manufacturing capacity of 1.1 billion nitrile gloves in 2015.

Based in Teluk Intan, Perak, Central Medicare has been undergoing a massive expansion and digital transformation plan that started in 2019.

They expanded to 27 production lines delivering an annual capacity of 8 billion gloves in 2020, and 34 production lines with an annual capacity of 11.6 billion in 2021.

How Central Medicare Leveraged Ruckus For Digital Transformation!

Peter Cheong, the IT Assistant Manager of Central Medicare, recently shared how they leveraged Ruckus network technologies for digital transformation during their rapid expansion plans.

As Central Medicare added more production facilities, it was becoming complicated to manage the rapidly expanding digital network.

After a thorough evaluation process that included top brands like Cisco, Aruba and Juniper, the IT team decided to leverage Ruckus network technologies for their new digital network.

They started creating their new digital network in 2016, using Ruckus ICX7150 network switches, and Ruckus ZoneDirector 1200 with R500 and R600 series wireless APs.

Both Ruckus switches and wireless APs allowed them to link and manage their different facilities in a centralised, unified manner.

The Ruckus wireless APs also allowed them to create an isolated Wi-Fi network for their customers and suppliers to use, hardening their network security.

The team also liked how Ruckus’ centralised management interface is so user-friendly, making it easy to manage for people who are not IT-savvy.

On top of that, the Ruckus KnowledgeBase is so comprehensive and easy-to-use that they can self-manage their network, without requiring any technical assistance.

All those advantages allowed the IT team to remotely manage their network during the COVID-19 pandemic MCO lockdowns.

The reliability of Ruckus network also shone through during the pandemic – Peter stated that they have not experienced a single failure, since they implemented their Ruckus network 5 years ago.

Central Medicare plans to continue leveraging Ruckus network technologies as they continue to expand their business and production facilities in 2022.

Get Ready For The 5G Revolution In Malaysia!

5G will roll out in Malaysia in the near future, empowering Malaysians with next-generation wireless communications.

Are YOU ready for Malaysia’s 5G revolution?

What Is 5G?

5G is a new wireless technology that offers significantly faster Internet connectivity speeds, and far less delay (called latency) than current 4G networks.

While 4G networks can deliver downloads speeds of 1 gigabit per second, with latencies as low as 70 ms, 5G networks will be able to deliver 10x better!

That next-generation level of improvement will power new capabilities in the areas of virtual reality, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and Internet of Things. It will transform a wide variety of industries, from transportation to agriculture and even education.

How Does 5G Work?

5G introduces a slew of new technologies that let it deliver much higher bandwidth, with almost zero delay :

Millimeter Wave Spectrum

With so many people using the same 4G spectrum, it is impossible to deliver high bandwidth.

5G networks avoids this problem by using millimeter wave frequencies between 30 and 300 GHz to make use of a new and different spectrum.

Massive MIMO

In addition to using millimeter waves, 5G networks can leverage on the massive MIMO technology to massively expand the number of users they can support by 22X or more!

This technology allows a 5G base station to fit many more antennas than a 4G base station, letting it to send and receive signals from many more users at once.

Beamforming

5G networks will use beamforming to more efficiently deliver your data, while reducing interference for people around you.

Full Duplex Transmissions

5G networks will introduce full duplex transmissions – their base stations can send and receive data from your smartphone at the same time – doubling download and upload speeds!

The Future of 5G In Langkawi, Malaysia!

Celcom collaborated with the Royal Malaysian Police and the Langkawi Municipal Council to explore the future of 5G technologies.

They started with the deployment of their 5G Safety and Security Smart City solution, with multiple 360⁰ UHD 4K panoramic live video surveillance cameras were installed at the famous tourist spots in Langkawi.

Leveraging 5G’s low latency and high data speeds, the Celcom 5G Safety and Security Smart City solution used Artificial Intelligence and video analytics to perform real-time monitoring with high-definition picture quality.

Celcom is also expanding its 5G use cases in Langkawi to cover Digital Defense for Beach Boundaries, Crowd Control Monitoring, Digital Control of Inbound and Outbound of Cargo, Fleet Management System, Geo-Fencing & Smart Perimeters, as well as 5G Fixed Wireless Access.

Celcom Blazes Path To 5G In Malaysia

The journey to 5G started in 2017, when Celcom became the first network operator in Malaysia to embark on a 5G trial, working with Ericsson to achieve a throughput of 18 Gbps.

Celcom and Ericsson enabled Malaysia’s first 5G hologram call, and demonstrated an autonomous vehicle that connected over a live 5G network in April 2019.

Celcom then launched their first 5G Live Cluster Field Trial at Celcom’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya on 26 July 2019.

The 5G Live Cluster Field Trial lasted six months, allowing Celcom engineers to test and observe use cases and behavior of 5G coverage in a real-life environment.

  • Data throughputs of close to 6 Gbps
  • Latency of about 10 ms
  • 5G-to-5G and 5G-to-4G VoLTE (Voice over LTE) calls
  • Ultra-High Definition (UHD) voice calls
  • 4K UHD video streaming
  • GameCloud game streaming

Celcom also conducted additional live field trials in areas like Seksyen 14, Crystal Crown Hotel, MPBJ Tower and Taman Jaya LRT Station. So far, those 5G macro sites cover just over 1.2 square kilometers, reaching about 4600 people in 450 households, and 130 shops and offices.

What Can You Expect When 5G Rolls Out In Malaysia?

When 5G rolls out in Malaysia, it will transform how we play and work, and how we consume our online services and content.

Besides delivering a higher bitrate of 4K video streaming, gamers will immediately notice a big drop in network latency, greatly reducing lag. With ultra-low latencies, it will make gaming far more enjoyable and give them a big advantage over gamers still on 4G.

The combination of high data bandwidth and ultra-low latency will greatly improve AR and VR experiences. 5G will enable AR and VR displays with much higher resolution and refresh rates, for a more believable and comfortable experience.

The introduction of 5G will also spur the creation of high-bandwidth IoT devices for our smart homes, always-connected computing devices, and smarter vehicles and yes, even autonomous vehicles one day!

Even cloud and media services will be transformed by 5G. Data stored in cloud services will feel as if they are residing in your mobile device or computer.

The quality of the media we consume today on streaming services like YouTube, Netflix, Apple TV+, Tidal and Spotify will be greatly improved because the industry will move to optimize for quality, instead of optimizing for low-bandwidth.

Even location services like Waze and Google Maps will be greatly enhanced by 5G. Your location can be more precisely triangulated using the 5G network, which means you will no longer miss a turn, or lane change!

5G may seem like a buzz word today, but it will change our lives when it rolls out in Malaysia!

The 2019 NTT Security GTIR : Top 4 Cybersecurity Highlights!

Here are the top 4 highlights of the newly-released 2019 NTT Security GTIR (Global Threat Intelligence Report)!

Find out what NTT Security discovered in their research on the current state of cybersecurity across the world!

The 2019 NTT Security GTIR : Top 4 Cybersecurity Highlights!

2019 NTT GTIR Highlight #1 : Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities

2018 set a new record – over 16,500 new vulnerabilities identified and reported in a single year!

Many of those vulnerabilities, like GNU Bash (also known as Shellshock), were discovered in older software that have been present for years.

Other vulnerabilities were, ironically, introduced through patches meant to fix other vulnerabilities.

NTT Security’s research also showed that the time-to-fix increased for all risk levels, except for medium risks. In addition, the window of exposure across all industries remains too long.

2019 NTT GTIR Highlight #2 : Cybersecurity Maturity

Globally, the average cybersecurity maturity rating stands at 1.45 out of 5 – a score which NTT Security considers to be extremely worrying, especially when security vulnerabilities are surging to a record high (up 12.5% from 2017).

The finance (1.71) and technology (1.66) sectors boast the highest maturity ratings, and continue to ramp up their security posture.

This is most likely prompted by their positions as the most commonly targeted industries, each accounting for 17% of all attacks recorded in 2018.

Interestingly, NTT Security noted that the attack volume correlated with the organisation’s willingness to improve their cybersecurity defences.

Regionally, MEA and Australia are the most prepared, and have the highest cybersecurity maturity ambitions.

But ambitions outpaced preparedness most noticeably in the Americas and Europe – they both fall behind the global benchmark.

2019 NTT GTIR Highlight #3 : Attack Types

After scouring trillions of logs and billions of attacks, NTT Security reported the most common attack types, with web attacks the most prevalent threat. They have doubled in frequency since 2017, and accounted for 32% of all attacks detected last year.

Reconnaissance (16%) was the next most common hostile activity, closely followed by service-specific attacks (13%) and brute-force attacks (12%).

Interestingly, cryptojacking sometimes accounted for more detections than all other malware combined!

2019 NTT GTIR Highlight #4 : Attack Locations

Globally, 35% of attacks originate from IP addresses within the US and China, followed by EMEA and APAC.

NTT Security points out that attackers are leveraging the infrastructure in the US and China to launch attacks. And remember – the attack source IP address does not always reflect the attacker’s true location.

More On The 2019 NTT Security GTIR

We had the opportunity to sit down with Mark Thomas, VP of Cybersecurity and other members of Dimension Data (now part of NTT Limited) for a Q&A session on the 2019 NTT Security GTIR and cybersecurity landscape.

You can download the executive guide to the 2019 NTT Security Global Threat Intelligence Report here.

How Dell Unified Workspace Simplifies IT Management!

One of the first big announcements on the first day of Dell Technologies World 2019 was the introduction of the Dell Unified Workspace.

Here is a quick primer on Dell Unified Workspace, and how it will transform IT deployment and management!

Dell Unified Workspace – Designed To Greatly Simplify IT Management!

The goal of Dell Unified Workspace is simple – to help IT departments deliver a better end-user computing experience with less work and frustration on both sides.

IT departments have always been mired in keeping the wheels greased and the computers running, instead of actually improving the end-users’ productivity.

Dell Unified Workspace is designed to change all that, by providing a way for IT admins to automatically and intelligently assist their end-users with :

  • device selection and/or deployment
  • device security initiatives and/or maintenance
  • end-user service and support

Best of all, Dell Unified Workspace works no matter what mix of devices and operating systems are used. It even supports different cloud environments.

Greater Visibility + Reduced Workload

Dell Unified Workspace will allow IT departments to streamline time-consuming, complex and yet critical tasks with capabilities that provide visibility, insights and automation.

Cloud-Based PC Deployment + Management

Traditional PC lifecycle management (PCLM) is complex, expensive and does not scale to mobile and remote workers.

VMware Workspace ONE, which forms the backbone of Dell Unified Workspace, lets customers modernise how they deploy, manage and secure their Dell devices.

Once a Dell device is deployed, Workspace ONE’s unified endpoint management capabilities gives customers access to :

  • cloud policy management,
  • streamlined application delivery,
  • automated patching
  • improved device health monitoring and diagnostics

Workspace ONE also lets the user seamlessly access any native, SaaS (Software as a Service), or internal application, with a single sign-on from any device.

Data-Driven Insights In Unified Workspace

Data collected about how employees use their PCs – like battery consumption, storage utilisation, mobility requirements, and most frequently-used applications – will provide insights what each employee really needs.

This will help companies intelligently select the right PC and applications for each individual employee and ship it, preconfigured directly at a Dell factory, to the employee.

This data-driven, low-touch experience will help IT departments same time and money. It will also let users be immediately productive on powering up their new devices.

Dell estimates that this feature alone will save up to nearly a week of IT time per 1,000 devices deployed.

BIOS Security With Dell SafeBIOS

With Unified Workspace, Dell Technologies is introducing a new capability to Dell SafeBIOS – an off-host BIOS verification utility that is available as a standalone download, and also integrated with VMware Workspace ONE, Secureworks and CrowdStrike.

This new integration provides greater visibility into the integrity of the BIOS. Security operations can now proactively detect attacks against the BIOS using the CrowdStrike console, with insights from Secureworks.

If there is a security concern, IT departments can use Workspace ONE to push over-the-air (OTA) updates to secure vulnerable devices, or bring out-of-compliance devices back into compliance.

Dell Unified Workspace Offers Predictive + Proactive Support Capabilities

Dell Unified Workspace offers predictive and proactive support capabilities that becomes more insightful, actionable and personalised over time as more data is gathered.

According to Dell, Dell ProSupport Plus with SupportAssist has helped customers reduce time to resolve a failed hard disk drive up to 10X faster.

Dell Unified Workspace Availability

  • Dell Provisioning for VMware Workspace ONE, ProDeploy Client Suite, ProSupport Suite for PCs, and the Dell SafeBIOS downloadable verification utility are currently available.
  • The verification utility integration with VMware Workspace ONE, Secureworks and CrowdStrike will be available in Q2 CY19.
  • Dell SafeGuard and Response is generally available.

Pat Gelsinger Reveals 2019 VMware Strategy + Plans!

On the second day of Dell Technologies World 2019, VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger shared his 2019 vision for VMware. Here is a sneak peek at the 2019 VMware strategy and plans!

Pat Gelsinger Reveals 2019 VMware Strategy + Plans!

VMware was a major force at Dell Technologies World 2019, demonstrating VMware’s great importance in the Dell Technologies family.

They announced amongst other things, Dell Unified Workspace which is based on VMware Workspace ONE, Dell Technologies Cloud in collaboration with Dell EMC, VMware Cloud on Dell EMC, and Azure VMware Solutions in collaboration with Microsoft.

But that was not all, as Pat Gelsinger would soon reveal…

Pat Gelsinger Reveals 2019 VMware Strategy + Plans!

VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger comes from a “hardware” background, serving as Intel’s first Chief Technology Officer before taking over as President and CEO of EMC.

A point he makes in his talk about the Superpowers of Tech – Cloud, Mobile, AI/ML and Edge/IoT.

  • VMware’s vision still focuses on enabling any cloud resource and application, from the past or the present, to work on any device, while improving intrinsic security over time.
  • The hybrid cloud is the best answer for almost every single workload, because of three “laws” – the laws of physics, the laws of economics, and the laws of the land.
  • VMware and Dell Technologies are focusing on the hybrid cloud architecture with VxRail as its building block.
  • To bind together and manage disparate cloud and on-premise solutions with greater visibility, VMware is offering CloudHealth on all VMware Cloud solutions on Amazon, Azure and Google.
  • VMware is making great investments into Kubernetes as the “middleware for the cloud“.
  • VMware is partnering with Pivotal to make VMware PKS available as VMware Enterprise PKS, VMware Essential PKS and VMware Cloud PKS.
  • VMware is also rebuilding their security architecture and products, with AppDefense and vSphere Platinum, giving virtual machines an AI capability to learn the users’ behaviour, as well as end-to-end encryption throughout the network infrastructure.
  • The newly-announced Dell Unified Workspace leverages VMware’s Workspace ONE unified endpoint management to maintain the user’s devices in good health, while allowing them to seamlessly access any native, SaaS (Software as a Service), or internal application, with a single sign-on from any device.

Claus Andresen : Riding The SEA Of Digital Disruptions!

SAP believes that family businesses in Southeast Asia have the potential to disrupt industries and drive economic growth, but they need to embrace digital innovations. Claus Andresen of SAP Southeast Asia explains why, with the help of a new study by The Economist Intelligence Unit.

Family Businesses In Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia (is a high-growth region, where family businesses make up a significant proportion of SMEs. These family businesses are aware of the rapid change in technology and markets, and these are impacting their outlook and strategies.

In a new SAP-sponsored study by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Southeast Asian family businesses ranked the pace of technological change as their foremost area of concern – one that may present the most significant threat to their growth over the next three years.

Q&A With Claus Andresen

At the of the SAP Leonardo briefings at the new SAP Leonardo Center Singapore, we sat down with Claus Andresen, President and Managing Director of SAP Southeast Asia, to talk about the new study, and importance of digital innovation to these family businesses.

“The landscape and dynamics of family businesses in Southeast Asia is unique, with many of them still being in the first or second generation. Given their small or medium sizes, these businesses have the competitive advantage of being agile and nimble, which put them in a better position to adapt to the rapid pace of change in the market,” said Claus Andresen.

“When we look at the broader SME segment in Southeast Asia, SMEs account for between 95 to 99 percent of establishments across ASEAN, contributing massively to the GDP. This may put them in prime position to drive disruptions across industries and economic growth across the region. But to do this, these organisations should first and foremost embrace digital innovations and integrate digital technologies into their overall strategy.”

The EIU Study On Family Businesses In Southeast Asia

The EIU study, called “Planning for Prosperity: Assessing Family Business Future-Readiness in South and Southeast Asia“, is based on a survey of 300 family business executives across eight countries in the APAC region – Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

According to Michael Gold, EIU Editor, “Executives in Southeast Asia show less confidence in their abilities to meet future challenges than their peers in South Asia. In order for family businesses in this fast-changing region to keep up, they will need to adapt to new technological developments and modernise their way of thinking to bring their businesses into the 21st century. Otherwise, the next generation may not throw in their chips with their parents’ companies.”

Despite feeling the pressure from the emergence of new technologies, the executives in the study are strongly confident of their organisations’ readiness to utilise new technologies like :

  • data analytics : 67%
  • machine learning : 62.3%
  • automation : 65.7%
  • cloud computing : 63.7%

The SAP Leonardo Digital Innovation System Explained!

Great companies are created on the back of innovative products or services. But to maintain their greatness, these companies need to keep innovating. This is becoming increasingly difficult because the development of new technologies is outpacing the ability of many companies to adapt, much less innovate. This is where SAP Leonardo comes in.

Join us for exclusive in-depth presentations on SAP Leonardo. Find out what SAP Leonardo is all about, and how it can help companies innovate faster and better!

What Is SAP Leonardo?

SAP introduced Leonardo at the 2017 SAPPHIRE NOW conference, combining six key digital innovation technologies into a single “digital innovation system” – machine learning, blockchain technology, data intelligence, Big Data, Internet of Things, and Analytics.

In addition to those technologies, Leonardo also offers Design Thinking methodologies, data intelligence tools, benchmarking and more. For speedy implementation, SAP even offers “Leonardo Accelerator Packages” that are tailored for specific industries and core functions, such as IoT.

SAP Leonardo Centers

Since its introduction in 2017, SAP has created five SAP Leonardo Centers worldwide, with SAP Leonardo Center Singapore as the latest addition. These are interconnected hubs that serve as points of contact for companies and startups interested in SAP Leonardo.

They are part showcase, and part collaborative centers. Their real-world examples of digital innovation using Leonardo serve as inspiration for SAP customers and partners. They also offer a place for businesses and startups to experiment and innovate, jointly or in collaborative efforts.

Innovating With Purpose

Scott Russell, President of SAP APJ, kicked things off with his keynote speech, Asia Soaring : Innovating with Purpose.

ACE Pacific Group Boosts APAC Cybersecurity With F-Secure!

At the first showing of Avengers: Infinity War in Singapore, ACE Pacific Group and F-Secure signed a distribution agreement for the APAC region. We spoke to both ACE Pacific and F-Secure about this expansive new distribution agreement. Here is everything you need to know about ACE Pacific’s partnership with F-Secure.

F-Secure In Asia Pacific

The Asia Pacific region has been a hotbed of cybersecurity activity in recent years, with increased awareness and government initiatives spurring investment and expansion. It does not help that the region is increasingly becoming a very attractive target for cybercriminals of all types.

F-Secure itself is no stranger to the region, establishing its Security Lab operations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 12 years ago. In 2016, they expanded it into their cybersecurity hub for the entire Asia Pacific region, with more than 170 research and development engineers.

ACE Pacific Group To Offer F-Secure Cybersecurity Solutions

This region-wide agreement allows F-Secure to leverage ACE Pacific Group’s extensive distribution network for greater reach. ACE Pacific will be more than just a distributor of F-Secure’s products. They aim to focus on the enterprise market, where they can offer cybersecurity solutions using F-Secure products.

“We have always been on the look-out for new and interesting technologies to complement our current cybersecurity portfolio. F-Secure has some products that fit very nicely into our cybersecurity solutions. After getting to know each other and evaluating their products over the past few months, we both agreed to this partnership,” said Danny Tan, ACE Pacific Group APAC Director.

Although ACE Pacific will have free rein to distribute all F-Secure products, they will be focusing on the high-end, value-added services, which would allow them to demonstrate their expertise.

We are very interested in the F-Secure RADAR vulnerability scanner, RADAR vulnerability scanner and in particular, the F-Secure cloud protection plug-in for SalesForce, which is the only such solution in the world, added Tan.

The non-exclusive distribution agreement currently covers the entire ASEAN region. ACE Pacific will focus on the six countries they already have a footprint in – Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. ACE Pacific recently opened an office in Australia, but they are only looking to offer their F-Secure solutions in the second phase of the partnership.

“As our portfolio becomes more advanced, we need more partners like ACE Pacific that can offer the kind of upmarket expertise to complement F-Secure’s cybersecurity products,” said Keith Martin, F-Secure Regional Director for APAC and Japan.

Martin also emphasised that for F-Secure, the ASEAN and Indian markets have the most growth rates, with the most growth potential. In particular, the ASEAN region is a tremendous area of growth for F-Secure in the high-end spectrum of the market.

Samsung Flip – The Next Step In Workplace Collaboration!

26 April 2018 Although whiteboards remain a mainstay for businesses today, they are still analogue. If only there was a clever solution to write, present, save and share ideas in a more efficient and engaging manner? Enter Samsung Flip!

Samsung Flip – The Next Step In Workplace Collaboration!

Samsung Flip is Samsung’s digital flip chart that transforms the modern meeting with new interactive and more collaborative digital engagement! By reducing the challenges faced when organising, facilitating and recapping meeting notes, Samsung is keeping the paperless dream alive with its vision of a “Workplace of the Future”.

An upgrade on both standard paper flip charts and analogue boards, the Samsung Flip display expands opportunities to generate game-changing ideas while maintaining the familiar feel of traditional writing. Additionally, the Flip’s portable, wheel-based stand transforms any location into a meeting workspace, giving businesses with limited conference spaces some added flexibility.

Productive and Interactive Collaboration

Up to four different participants can introduce content or annotate directly on screen at the same time using either their fingers or a dual-sided pen. In doing so, users can customise their own writing style, size and colour, with each notation made clear and visible through a viewer-friendly 55-inch UHD display.

For added interactivity, the Samsung Flip display offers extensive device compatibility through PC, mobile ports, and both wireless connectivity and USB. An integrated screen-sharing functionality makes Flip content available on connected PCs, smartphones and tablets. Likewise, users can import personally-stored content onto the Flip display’s screen and introduce fresh ideas to the discussion.

Customised and Comfortable Creativity

Participants do not need a specialised touch pen to interact with the screen, and can erase notes through a quick palm swipe. Flip users also can access up to 20 pages of writing space, with embedded search functionalities available to instantly direct participants to specific content.

Each Flip display is customisable and can configure to portrait or landscape orientations to suit unique meeting needs. When coupled with its height-adjustable stand, the Flip maximizes available writing space at users’ preferred positions. Should a meeting require more a centralised and roundtable-style discussion, users can opt to remove and connect the Flip display to a compatible wall mount.

[adrotate group=”2″]

Convenient and Secure Conclusion

As meetings wrap up, the Samsung Flip display securely stores all content within a central database, eliminating the need for cumbersome recaps or handwritten transcription. An airtight, password-based protection system safeguards meeting details and ensures that only approved users can access the information.

Once logged in, meeting facilitators and participants can download and share featured content through email or traditional printing. Users additionally can save meeting notes into a USB drive or other external sources.

Samsung Flip Price + Availability

The Samsung Flip is now available in Malaysia at a recommended retail price of RM 12,999 / ~US$ 3,333.

Dimension Data Adopts Cisco Umbrella In Cybersecurity Strategy

7 February 2018 – Dimension Data today announced that it has extended the company’s protection from ransomware, phishing attacks, bot networks, and all types of malicious software, with Cisco Umbrella, the industry’s first Secure Internet Gateway (SIG) in the cloud.

The decision to incorporate Cisco Umbrella follows the company’s firsthand experience protecting its own 28,000 employees and addresses its clients’ requirement to support an increasingly mobile workforce.

Dimension Data Adopts Cisco Umbrella In Cybersecurity Strategy

Cisco Umbrella is a cloud security platform that provides the first line of defense against threats on the internet.

“In today’s expanding threat landscape, it is critical to have powerful security tools that effectively support mobility and cloud. With Cisco® Umbrella, we are able to proactively stop threats on any mobile device before they happen with a secure solution that is easily integrated with existing infrastructure.” said Chris Panzeca, Senior Director, Global Strategic Partner Sales, Cisco.

“Today, the average user utilises four devices per day, and this is predicted to increase to five connected devices in the next four years,” said Darren O’Loughlin, Dimension Data’s Group Chief Security Officer. “As more enterprises look to harness the benefits of a mobile workforce that leverages cloud platforms, there’s a greater need to implement appropriate measures to secure data, infrastructures, applications and users, regardless of where they connect to the internet, and even if they’re off the VPN. That’s why we adopted Cisco Umbrella into our own cybersecurity strategy.”

According to the NTT 2017 Global Threat Intelligence Report, attacks targeting end users is one of the top cybersecurity threats on the rise. In line with this trend, security has become the top focus at the highest level. Now, more than ever, security leaders are being forced to demonstrate a return on investment of their security investments. This includes the business value realised through continuous cyber protection, detection, and response measures.

[adrotate group=”1″]

In 2016, Dimension Data published its Securing Workspaces for Tomorrow white paper which explored the topic of how employees across the globe are already demanding a more mobile workplace with the flexibility to work from anywhere, any time, on any device to become more productive and achieve a better work-life balance.

“However,” said Matthew Gyde, Group Executive – Security, Dimension Data, “While the mobile Endpoint is a potential game changer for businesses, it exposes mobile workers to security risks and vulnerabilities. Mobile users may not have the same level of security as within the office perimeter, and are more vulnerable to cyberattacks. With Cisco Umbrella, threats beyond the network perimeter can be blocked.”
