Yesterday, we were invited to an exclusive tech briefing on the Veritas 360 Enterprise Data Management (EDM) system. Veritas, as you may know, is famous for its enterprise backup software – NetBackup. But as enterprises migrate their data to the cloud, they are transforming themselves beyond backup. They are now delivering enterprise data management (EDM) solutions.
The Veritas 360 Enterprise Data Management Approach
Raymond Goh, Head of Asia Pacific and Japan Solution Architects Group, Veritas Storage, flew in from Singapore to give the briefing on the Veritas 360 Enterprise Data Management approach. Check it out!
Here are some key takeaway points :
[adrotate banner=”4″]
Data is growing exponentially, and organizations struggle to have visibility to it and keep costs and risks under control with hardware alone.
Information is everything and data is an organization’s digital currency– it is a critical business asset that is exponentially growing in value. Veritas’ approach is to completely abstract the value of that information.
Veritas is exclusively dedicated to 360 enterprise data management.
Veritas delivers the core of any sound data management strategy with backup and recovery, archiving, disaster recovery (DR), high availability, and business resiliency
The Veritas 360 Data Management Approach is summarised as such :
The ability to transform your data into a strategic business asset starts with providing three core capabilities – Insight, Availability and Protection – need to be applied across the entire IT landscape in a scalable, consistent and manageable manner, rather than in silos.
Adopting a software-based approach, with the ability to span across many different environments, to apply polices centrally and integrate these capabilities (no longer enough to provide these independently) to further reduce complexity and achieve synergies.
A 360 approach to enterprise data management brings a fourth element to the equation: convergence between Insight, Availability and Protection into combined solutions that offer greater business value.
Veritas provides enterprise data management to global customers with an award-winning portfolio of insight, availability and protection solutions.

Kuala Lumpur,20 January 2017 — Canvas by Instructure today released a deep, seamless integration with Google tools that allows students and teachers to use Google while working inside of Canvas, effectively eliminating the need to constantly switch between separate tabs and log-ins. This integration helps increase productivity for teachers and students who use Canvas and Google Drive by streamlining their workflow, and merges the capabilities of Google Docs and the Canvas LMS platform.
“Most of the teachers we work with use Google in their classrooms, and they want to use Canvas and Google without switching back and forth between two interfaces. Our educator user base is very excited about this integration because it will make their lives easier,” said Melissa Loble, the Vice President of partners and platform at Instructure. “Now teachers, students and administrators alike can use Google’s best tools directly inside of Canvas. This integration allows schools to continue having students work in the software they use now, and will use after they get their diplomas and jobs in the real world.”
The Canvas Integration With Google
The integration includes many points of interoperability, such as:
Single sign-on: With a single login, when users are logged into Canvas, they’re also logged into Google.
Google Drive embedding and linking: Users can easily embed documents from Google Drive anywhere they use the Canvas rich content editor.
Google Docs as assignments: With this new integration, students can submit Google Docs as assignments, and teachers can use a Google Doc to give an assignment and to grade submitted assignments in Speedgrader by editing or annotating the Google Doc submitted by the student.
Google Drive collaborations: Students can participate in a Canvas collaboration using Google Docs, Sheets or Slides.
Modules: Teachers can include a read-only Google Doc in their modules.
The Canvas Google integration benefits teachers, students and administrators. The integration helps teachers create and add collaborative documents from Google, view their Google Drive files from the Canvas Course Navigation Menu, and save time in finding and sharing files. Because Canvas seamlessly integrates with Google Drive, teachers can create assignments and annotate directly on the Google Docs, Slides, or Sheets as they grade them.
[adrotate banner=”4″]
For students, the new integration promotes collaboration with classmates and teachers and enables them to view teacher feedback on Google Docs and save time submitting documents. The integration also helps administrators leverage standards-based technology and Google’s wealth of educational features with no additional cost. The simplified workflow created by the integration also promotes greater adoption of the technology, which increases productivity.
“Canvas believes that schools should be able to bring the best tools together so that teachers can focus on teaching and not on technology. Traditional LMS/VLE environments force teachers to use the tools they alone provide or created fractured environments where students and teachers needed to log into several systems. Canvas is the first to bring the true power of Google apps for Education (GAFE) into a centralised Learning environment for teachers and students. Teachers can quickly share documents with students, create collaborative documents, slides or sheets and even allow students to submit work for assessment. With only a couple of clicks in Canvas, you have a truly unified environment,” concluded Troy Martin, Vice President, Canvas Asia Pacific.
This integration allows for seamless, simultaneous use of Canvas and Google, with both platforms transforming today’s K–12 and higher education classrooms.

January 19, 2017 – Acronis, a global leader in hybrid-cloud data protection and storage, today announced Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation with Acronis Active Protection — active protection against ransomware attacks on user data, Acronis Notary — blockchain-based data certification and verification capabilities — and Acronis ASign — the most consumer-friendly electronic document signing service.
Acronis True Image is the first and only backup solution in the market that introduces Active Protection technology to detect and prevent ransomware attacks in real-time, automatically recover all data from the backup, self-protect backups and the backup application.
According to the FBI, damages from ransomware exceeded $1 billion in 2016 and are growing at an alarming rate, affecting thousands of people every day. This year, cyber-attacks will increasingly threaten data on every personal computer and Acronis delivers the ultimate protection for user data.
Acronis True Image is the fastest and most complete personal backup solution, outperforming the closest competition by more than two times and protecting data on Windows and Mac computers, iOS and Android mobile devices, and Facebook social network accounts. Acronis True Image delivers ultimate data protection for personal and family data using AES 256 encryption and stores it in multiple destinations, including external drives, NAS devices, network shares, and the secure Acronis Cloud.
Acronis Active Protection for real-time active protection against ransomware. Acronis Active Protection identifies unusual activity on computers and prevents malicious applications from damaging user data, backups, and backup software. Cutting-edge behavioral heuristics detect and prevent new and known ransomware attacks, making the backup more secure, and reducing a number of times data need to be restored from the backup.
Acronis Notary for Blockchain-based data authentication. Acronis Notary offers certification of the content of any file and verification of content modifications against the original version. Unique, “digital file fingerprints” are stored in a distributed, immutable database based on blockchain technology. Blockchain allows users to verify the authenticity of the information at any time. This is especially important for valuable documents such as contracts, medical records, and financial documents.
Acronis ASign for blockchain-based document certification. Acronis ASign allows multiple parties to execute and certify a document with a secure and publicly auditable digital signature. Users can protect their backed-up documents, which are verified with Acronis Notary and electronically signed – all within the same reliable backup solution.
Eugene Kaspersky, chairman and CEO of Kaspersky Lab, said: “The world is facing a rising and increasingly dangerous tide of ransomware affecting individuals and businesses alike. Of course, ideally you should never pay criminals if your data is encrypted by ransomware; that’s all very well in theory, but when it’s your family photos or business documents encrypted, the idealism can swiftly go out the window. There are many measures that can be taken to avoid the damage from ransomware, but a high-end Internet security suite and a reliable backup disconnected from the system is still essential to ensure business continuity if the worst does still happen. And I welcome Acronis’s introduction of backup suited to this trend.”

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Twenty years ago, procurement was a manual function driven largely by phone calls, faxes and handshakes. Then along came the Internet. And a company named Ariba. And everything changed. It all started with the idea that buying and selling among businesses didn’t need to be so hard. That with the right technology, companies could automate the process and interact in totally new ways that enhance their top and bottom lines.
“As one of its first fully integrated suppliers, we have improved our efficiency by processing thousands of orders and invoices through the network seamlessly.”
“What Ariba was talking about in 1996 was a revolutionary concept,” said Shelley Stewart, Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer at DuPont Company. “We took a big chance in embracing it at the time, but it has clearly paid off. Technology and networks have completely changed the way business is done and helped to move procurement from a tactical function to a strategic driver of business value.”
Zachary Engels, Senior Analyst, Sourcing, PolyOne Corporation, agrees. “For us, procurement has always been about more than just savings. Our goal is to drive supply chain efficiency on a global scale,” he said. “And although it seemed crazy at the time, we realized that technology and business networks could help us do this and increase the value we deliver to our organization.”
Focused on Innovation
SAP Ariba paved the way for this transition through innovations that over the last two decades have completely changed the way buyers and suppliers connect and get business done. The company for instance:
Launched the first online catalog for procurement.
Developed the first software to conduct reverse auctions.
Created the Ariba Network, the first business network that today is the largest, most global on the planet, with more than 2 million companies transacting nearly $1 trillion in commerce on an annual basis.
Delivered comprehensive suite of cloud-based procurement applications ranked first among all vendors.
Went live with Ariba Discovery, a global business matching service that automatically connects buyer needs with seller capabilities.
Rolled out Ariba Spot Buy, the first solution to combine the technology, content and expertise needed to gain visibility into unplanned buys with workflow capabilities to get them under control.
Released AribaPay, an electronic payment solution identified as the most Disruptive and Best B2B Innovation.
Delivered Guided Buying, a contextual experience that automatically leads users to the goods and services they need to do their jobs, then guides them through executing purchases in compliance with their company policies and processes.
Opened its platform, allowing companies to develop and deliver new commerce services that drive value for their organizations, their customers and anyone connected to the Ariba Network using open APIs.
Committed to Customer Success
SAP Ariba continues to push the limits of what is possible and deliver innovations that fuel business transformation.
“It’s always good to see vendors doing some hard work and heavy lifting to help their customers move faster and better, delivering innovative tools they can use to come up with new business processes, new strategies and new directions that make them much more strategic,” said Holger Mueller, Principal Analyst & Vice President Constellation Research, Inc.
Ken Redler says this is exactly what SAP Ariba has helped his company do. At a time when many were still questioning the viability of the Internet as a tool for business, Redler, the Chief Technology Officer of cSubs, whose business is helping companies procure, manage, and analyze their knowledge resources, knew it was the future.
“We had customers coming to us saying, ‘This is the way we are going to do business,’” he recalls. “So we had to put an eCommerce platform in place.”
In 2005, Redler and his team set up a catalog on the Ariba Network to give its customers a simple, consumer-like way to manage the content flowing into their organizations. Within two years, 25 percent of the company’s business was coming from it.
In 2012, cSubs took things to the next level and leveraged the network to go to market with Clarity, a new licensed content and contract management solution that gives companies centralized control of their electronic content tasks and analytics. “In doing so, we became a more strategic partner and gained a tremendous leg up in competing with much larger companies,” Redler said.
The idea of moving from bricks to clicks wasn’t something most big box retailers were even thinking about 20 years ago. Office Depot joined the Ariba Network in 1996 and created a digital procure-to-pay process that has optimized the way it operates.
“Office Depot values our long-time relationship with SAP Ariba,” said Emile Naguib, senior product manager for Office Depot, Inc.“As one of its first fully integrated suppliers, we have improved our efficiency by processing thousands of orders and invoices through the network seamlessly.”
Looking to the Future
[adrotate banner=”4″]
Procurement is no doubt a different function than it was two decades ago. But the transformation has only begun. “No longer just about managing spend and delivering savings, procurement today is about creating opportunities for both buyers and sellers to connect and collaborate across the entire source to settle process in totally new ways that create commerce and drive business advantage,” said Alex Atzberger, president, SAP Ariba.
This not only requires a new approach, but innovative tools to support it. And SAP Ariba is expected to remain at the forefront of delivering them.
“The forward-looking road map has never been more exciting,” said Simon Ellis, Program Vice President, Supply Chain, IDC Manufacturing Insights. “SAP Ariba is clearly on the right road to becoming the best-in-class procurement vendor. The company started as a leading procurement vendor and has continued to evolve with new and innovative solutions and a business network that help companies deliver better commerce.”

27 October 2016 – Microsoft today announced the launch of its latest Windows Server 2016 and System Center 2016. Enterprises and businesses can now broadly acquire the server operating system that accelerates innovation and security of both traditional and cloud-native applications.
Windows Server 2016 – The Cloud-ready OS
As a cloud-ready OS, Windows Server 2016 inherently enables hybrid cloud. Backed by 20 years of innovation, the Windows Server 2016 offers seamless portability across datacenter, private and public cloud environments via virtual machine and new container formats that can be reliably deployed wherever the business requires.
Celebrating the 20-year milestone of Windows Server, Steven Yong, Cloud and Enterprise Business Group Lead, Microsoft Malaysia said, “It is hard to believe that two decades ago, Microsoft introduced the first OS for the masses, democratizing IT platforms and tools to help IT solutions that drive success. We are excited to finally introduce the latest milestone – Windows Server 2016.”
Windows Server 2016 delivers powerful innovation across three areas:
Advanced Multi-layer Security: Security attacks have become more sophisticated in an increasingly connected world. Organizations must respond with a more sophisticated environment that presents new layers of defense at every level of potential compromise.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, April 7, 2016 – Dell has announced the signing of its first reseller in Asia Pacific (including Japan) with Peering One, a leading provider of cloud and datacenter services in Malaysia, to provide the Dell Hybrid Cloud System (DHCS) for Microsoft for enterprises in Malaysia.
With the availability of DHCS for Microsoft, large institutions in Malaysia now have access to a hybrid cloud solution that radically simplifies customer cloud experience, control and automates maintenance, allowing them to adopt hybrid cloud in a much faster and flexible manner.
The Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft, featuring technology jointly developed with Microsoft, is designed to break through the hybrid cloud adoption barriers of complexity, cost and control. Customers will be able to go from zero to operational hybrid cloud – having the flexibility of selecting their preferred cloud either on-premise, hosted or public cloud; hosting and scaling cloud applications on demand as user or business needs change; and also enable customers to perform backup or disaster recovery to the cloud – all in under three hours.
According to a Dell worldwide poll of IT decision makers (ITDM) , 9 in 10 say a hybrid cloud strategy is important to achieve a Future-Ready Enterprise. The Dell Global Technology Adoption Index (GTAI 2015) also revealed that 55 percent of organizations globally indicated use of more than one type of cloud. The GTAI 2015 also cites cost and security as the biggest barriers to adopting and implementing cloud, and complexity is the barrier most often associated with hybrid cloud.
“The challenges most customers face on their cloud journey are clear. They tell us it’s too complex, the cost-risk is too high, and control isn’t transparent,” said Mak Chin Wah, general manager, Enterprise Solutions, South Asia, Dell. “All customers want is to simplify and accelerate their journey to the cloud, and that includes customers in Malaysia. Now they can – with a solution that will help enable a hybrid cloud strategy and remove many of the traditional barriers that customers face.”
“The availability of the Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft, featuring Microsoft Cloud Platform System Standard, will help enterprise customers in Malaysia move to the cloud in a way that makes sense for their business. We are delivering a solution that allows them to move workloads to the public cloud or keep it on premise – with ease,” said Michal Golebiewski, Chief Marketing and Operations Officer, Microsoft Malaysia. “Our partnership With Dell, we are delivering on that vision beyond the typical virtualization integrated systems on the market today by providing Azure-consistent hybrid cloud services and a fast time-to-value to help customers enable their hybrid cloud strategy.”
“The feedback we have been getting from the market is that businesses are intrigued by the cloud, but are held back by concerns around data security, cost and the complexity in managing such an environment. For these customers, the Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft addresses the issues head on,” said Wong Chee Voon, Managing Director, Peering One.
“Businesses whose IT infrastructure is due for a refresh and are looking to offload capital expenditure investment; those who want the capability to easily manage workloads on both private and public clouds through one integrated system; or where data sovereignty is paramount – these enterprises should really consider a hybrid cloud approach.”

Peering One Benefits From Deploying DHCS For Microsoft In-House – Now Offering It To Customers
Peering One is a leading provider of cloud and datacenter services for corporate customers – providing cloud system integration and managed services for on-premise private cloud into hybrid cloud and/or public cloud. Peering One’s datacenter was the first datacenter in Malaysia and second datacenter in South-East Asia to secure a Tier III Design Certification, meeting the high reliability and availability level accredited by Uptime Institute.
Peering One was the first in Asia Pacific (including Japan) to deploy the Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft for its own virtual private cloud, and is now offering the cloud business model to its customers in Malaysia. Its experience with DHCS for Microsoft has been a highly positive one. The solution comes fully integrated and was easy to deploy right off the shelf. It can co-exist with existing infrastructure especially with networking and security devices while adding on new workloads on both private and public clouds, offering much needed flexibility that enterprise customers need today.
“With DHCS for Microsoft, customers can seamlessly deploy a total hybrid cloud solution based on their individual needs – a combination of on-premise, private or public cloud. Being a user ourselves and knowing what customers are looking for, we are confident this solution will help make the move to a hybrid cloud platform a quick and easy one for enterprises in Malaysia,” said Wong.

What IT department wouldn’t want to be able to do more with their current infrastructure? With NVIDIA GRID, they can.
NVIDIA GRID acceleration of Blast Extreme — a new protocol for optimizing the mobile cloud — is now supported in VMware Horizon 7. What’s that mean for IT managers? Reduced latency. Improved performance. And up to 18 percent more users.
NVIDIA and VMware have been working together for years to improve the virtualized computing user experience and enable a whole new class of virtual use cases. We were the first to enable hardware-accelerated graphics rendering in VMware Horizon View. Then we enabled the first virtualized graphics acceleration in Horizon with GRID vGPU.
Now, using the new Blast Extreme protocol, NVIDIA GRID offloads encoding from the CPU to the GPU. This frees up resources and lowers the demand on network infrastructure, which lets organizations reach more remote users. In tests of key applications like ESRI ArcGIS Pro, scalability increased by up to 18 percent. That’s without investing in new hardware.
Bigger Graphical Workloads, Better Performance
Using VMware Horizon 7 with NVIDIA Blast Extreme Acceleration, organizations can now increase the number of graphical workloads per server while delivering a superior user experience to the most remote networks.
[adrotate banner=”4″]Testing has shown latency improvements of up to 50 milliseconds, and reduced bandwidth requirements ranging from 19 to 89 percent. This increases network tolerance for graphical workloads and allows more use cases to take advantage of accelerated virtual desktops and applications.
“NVIDIA GRID with VMware Horizon extends the performance of existing infrastructure so customers can meet the needs of their modern, remote workforces,” said Pat Lee, senior director of product management for End-User Computing, at VMware. “This offering puts the world’s most powerful applications and the best user experience on every device, at scale, anywhere in the world.”
We have a long track record of working with VMware to expand the use of graphics-accelerated virtualized desktops and applications. Companies worldwide have adopted our combined solution to unlock workforce productivity and deliver incredible mobility, flexibility and user experience, all from the cloud.
