People are sharing an article by The People’s Voice (formerly NewsPunch), suggesting or claiming that the World Economic Forum (WEF) just ordered world governments to arrest climate change deniers!

Here is an excerpt from the article, which is pretty long, so feel free to skip to the next section for the facts!

WEF Orders World Govt’s To Begin Arresting ‘Climate Deniers’

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has ordered world governments to being arresting citizens to refuse to believe in man-made climate change.

In a memo posted to their website, the WEF calls “climate inaction” a “human rights violation.”

The author of the memo suggests there will be an increasing number of climate-related lawsuits in the coming years.

“Climate-related litigation generally seems poised for expansion,” the article states.

Activistpost.com reports: According to the Global Climate Change Litigation database, there have been over 130 cases worldwide that have brought human rights-based claims against governments.

Furthermore, a legal advocate for climate litigation, Clémentine Baldon, told the WEF last year that there is a strong expectation that human rights-related climate claims “will continue to increase.”

On Wednesday, a lawsuit went to the European Court of Human Rights, brought forth by six young individuals against 32 European countries. The six individuals are alleging that the countries’ have failed to address the “climate crisis” caused by human activities.

“It’s being described as “unprecedented” in terms of potential impact,” the WEF stated.

“A win could push some of the wealthiest countries in the world to ramp up their responses to a changing climate; a loss could affect the numerous other legal efforts now underway to target inaction.”

Truth : WEF Did Not Order Arrests Of Climate Change Deniers!

This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS created about the WEF, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : It Was An Article, Not A Memo

First, let me just point out that it was a World Economic Forum article (link here), and not a memo.

Unlike an article, a memo – short for memorandum – is a brief written record / reminder of the author’s memory, or to serve as a quick summary of a meeting or discussion.

The article was also written by two authors – John Letzing and Minji Sung, not a single author as claimed in The People’s Voice article.

Fact #2 : Article Was About Rights-Based Climate Lawsuits

The WEF article did not call “climate inaction” a “human rights violation” as claimed in The People’s Voice article.

In fact, the title of the article questioned that – Is climate inaction a human rights violation?

The WEF article also pointed out that “rights-based climate litigation” has “a mixed track record“.

Fact #3 : WEF Did Not Order Any Arrest

Nowhere in the entire WEF article did anyone call for the arrest of any climate change denier.

In fact, the words “arrest” or “arresting” do not appear a single time in the entire WEF article.

Just to be clear – issuing a lawsuit against someone or an organisation does not mean you are ordering them to be arrested.

Fact #4 : The People’s Voice Offered Zero Evidence

Interestingly, The People’s Voice article itself has not offered any evidence that the WEF ordered world governments to arrest anyone, much less “citizens [who] refuse to believe in man-made climate change”.

In fact, the words “arrest” or “arresting” only appear twice in its entire article. Once in the title, and once in its byline:

That's it. There is no other mention of the words "arrest" or "arresting" anywhere else in The People's Voice article.

Fact #5 : The People's Voice Is A Fake News Website

The People's Voice is the new name / brand for NewsPunch, which possibly changed its name because its brand has been so thoroughly discredited and made worthless.

Like Real Raw News, NewPunch was a FAKE NEWS website that capitalises on making shocking but fake stories to generate page views and money.

It was founded as Your News Wire in 2014, before being rebranded as NewsPunch in November 2018. A 2017 BuzzFeed report identified NewsPunch as the second-largest source of popular fake news spread on Facebook that year.

Its articles have been regularly debunked as fake news, so you should NEVER share anything from NewsPunch / The People's Voice. Here are some of its fake stories that I personally fact checked earlier:

We are getting reports that there has been a confirmed Ebola Outbreak on the ground at The Burning Man Festival in Nevada.

Attendees have been told to shelter in place allegedly due to all of the flooding, and one attendee has been pronounced dead without a cause of death given.

Truth : There Is No Ebola Outbreak At Burning Man 2023!

This appears to be another example of FAKE NEWS circulating on Twitter, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : Burning Man Closed To Traffic

First, let me just give you a quick summary of what’s going on at the Burning Man 2023 festival.

The 2023 Burning Man festival started on Sunday, August 27, 2023. However, it was suddenly hit by heavy rainfall on Friday, September 1. Several months of rainfall inundated the area that day.

The heavy rainfall flooded the playa and turned the ground into ankle-deep mud. It quickly became impossible to drive any vehicles on the muck. Even worse – it continued to rain and drizzle over the next few days.

As a result, the organisers closed all roads leading into and out of the Burning Man area, and told attendees to conserve food, water and fuel.

The gate and airport in and out of Black Rock City remain closed. Ingress and egress are halted until further notice.

No driving is permitted except emergency vehicles. If you are in [Black Rock City], conserve food and water, and shelter in a warm space.

Fact #2 : There Was No Quarantine At Burning Man

Even though the roads in and out of Burning Man were closed, and people were told to shelter in place, there never was a quarantine. That’s because there is no outbreak of any disease, Ebola or otherwise.

People who wanted to leave the Burning Man festival could still do so. They just had to hike their way through the thick mud.

While some 72,000 people remained on site, quite a number of people hiked their way out. DJ Diplo and Chris Rock, for example, managed to hitchhike a ride on the back of a pickup truck after hiking out.

Just walked five miles in the mud out of Burning Man with Chris Rock and a fan picked us up.

If there really was an Ebola outbreak at Burning Man, there would have been a strict quarantine, and no one would have been allowed to simply walk out of the area.

People at the Black Rock Desert site also would not be allowed to socialise. Yet, people there continue to gather and socialise.

Fact #3 : Burning Man Organisers Dismissed Ebola Claims

On Sunday, 3 September 2023, the Burning Man organisers issued a press release dismissing the rumours of an Ebola outbreak:

The online rumors of transmissible illnesses in Black Rock City are unfounded and untrue.

Fact #4 : Bureau of Land Management Dismissed Ebola Claims

The Bureau of Land Management, which oversees the Black Rock Desert site, also issued a statement, dismissing the rumours of an Ebola outbreak at Burning Man 2023.

[We] can confirm the event entrance was closed for the year because unusual rainfall caused muddy conditions where there was a full stop on vehicles, and not for an Ebola outbreak. We have heard no information of any participants with Ebola.

Fact #5 : Burning Man Death Still Under Investigation

The claims of an Ebola outbreak at Burning Man 2023 was also partly fuelled by reports that a man died there.

On Friday, 1 September 2023, a man died at the Burning Man festival, which was confirmed by the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office the next day.

On Sunday, 3 September, Burning Man confirmed confirmed the death in a press release, stating that the cause was “unrelated to the weather”.

Our emergency services department reached a call for service extremely quickly for a male, approximately 40 years old, and could not resuscitate the patient.

The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the death, and has not announced the man’s cause of death. However, that does not mean that it was Ebola. Obviously, if it was Ebola, the area would have been placed under strict quarantine!

Fact #6 : Burning Man Attendees May Get To Leave By Today

Burning Man attendees who were caught knee-deep in the mud may get to leave by today – Monday, 4 September 2023.

The organisers earlier said that “the roads in Black Rock City remain too wet and muddy to officially open them for Exodus on Sunday 9/3.”

They now say that they “expect to start Exodus on Monday morning 9/4 as long as the conditions improve“.

Obviously, this is only possible because there is no Ebola outbreak, and the ground is drying up enough to support the movement of vehicles!

This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS circulating on WhatsApp, and social media platforms, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : Viral Video Was Recorded In 2017

First, let me just point out that this viral video is not new. It was actually recorded at around 6 PM on 28 March 2017.

So the claim that the tornado appeared near and over the Penang Bridge “this morning” in June 2023 is false.

Since then, it has reappeared on WhatsApp and social media every year or so, usually when it rains heavily during the monsoon season.

Fact #2 : No One Was Injured In The Incident

The viral video shows a waterspout forming near the Penang bridge, and it eventually passes over the motorist recording it before the video cuts out.

To be clear – no one was hurt by that 2017 Penang waterspout, which was a mild one.

Fact #3 : The Video Shows A Waterspout, Not Tornado

Technically, the video does not show a tornado (which forms over land), but a waterspout which forms over a body of water. Waterspouts fall into two categories – tornadic waterspout, and fair weather waterspout.

The more dangerous tornadic waterspout are tornadoes that form over water, or move from land to water, during severe thunderstorms and are often accompanied by high winds and dangerous lightning .

The Penang Bridge waterspout seen in 2017 is what’s called a fair weather waterspout, which is more common and forms only over open water. Such waterspouts are small and less dangerous, and only form for a brief time.

Fact #4 : Waterspouts Form Occasionally In Penang

Waterspouts may be uncommon, but they are not unheard of in Penang. They have been reported in the past:

waterspouts were spotted in the North Channel, and the coast of Butterworth in November 2016
two were reported in Kampung Perlis and Pulau Betong in November 2016
a massive waterspout damaged 28 houses and apartments in Tanjung Tokong and Tanjung Bungah in April 2019

A spokesperson for the Meteorological Services Department in Penang said that the rise in global temperatures can increase the frequency of waterspouts.

Fact #5 : This Is Just Fake News About Nature

Donald Trump Jr. has gone viral with his claim that President Joe Biden went on a tropical vacation while the United States was being pummelled by a polar vortex bomb cyclone.

Where is the outrage about Joe Biden going on a nice tropical vacation while the country suffers through a “polar vortex bomb cyclone?” Remember what they did to Ted Cruz? A president can actually do something about this stuff that a senator can’t and yet total silence? WTF?

Republican Representative Ronny Jackson of Texas also tweeted his criticism of President Biden’s vacation during the winter storm.

MASSIVE winter storms paralyzed the country and Biden was taking a beach vacation in the Caribbean. Where was the media to demand he return to the White House to work? Did anyone even notice he was gone?

Conservative author, Nick Adams, also criticised President Biden for “abandoning his country during a historic blizzard”.

Where is the media outrage over Joe Biden abandoning his country during a historic blizzard to vacation on a beach in St. Croix?

Truth : President Joe Biden Went On Vacation After Bomb Cyclone!

Here are the reasons why they are all wrong to claim that President Joe Biden went on vacation during the 2022 bomb cyclone.

Fact #1 : Ted Cruz Went To Cancun During A Deadly Winter Storm

First, let us establish some context for Donald Trump Jr’s claim regarding Republican Senator Ted Cruz.

In February 2021, Ted Cruz faced tremendous outrage after photos showed the Republican Senator fleeing Texas during a deadly winter storm that left millions without power or heat, and over 200 people dead.

After social media exploded over those photos, Senator Cruz admitted that he and his family left Texas to fly to Cancun “at the request of his daughters”.

(Finally) realising how bad it looked, the good Senator flew back to Texas the next day, to “go home and keep working to get the grid reopened, to get power restored, to get the water back on.”

I didn’t want all the screaming and yelling about this trip to distract even one moment from the real issues that I think Texans care about, which is keeping all of our families safe. It was obviously a mistake, and in hindsight, I wouldn’t have done it.

Fact #2 : Bomb Cyclone Ended On December 26, 2022

The December 2022 North American winter storm – started on Tuesday, December 21 and ended five day later on Sunday, December 26.

The winter storm became to form on December 21, and strengthened the next day before becoming a bomb cyclone on December 23 and 24.

A day before it became a bomb cyclone, President Joe Biden asked Americans to “please take this storm extremely seriously”.

The polar vortex bomb cyclone dissipated by Sunday, December 26, after causing transportation disruption, power outages and almost 90 deaths across the United States.

Fact #3 : President Biden Went On Vacation After Bomb Cyclone

It was two days after the bomb cyclone dissipated when President Joe Biden and his family flew to the US Virgin Islands for a vacation, and to ring in a new year.

The President and First Lady Jill Biden flew from Washington D.C. to St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands on Tuesday, December 28, 2022. There, they were joined by their daughter Ashley and her husband, Howard Krein, as well as their grandchildren Natalie and Hunter.

While Senator Ted Cruz left Texas during a severe winter storm, President Biden only left for his vacation after the winter storm had dissipated.

Fact #4 : President Biden Continued To Work In St. Croix

The White House disputed Donald Trump Jr’s claim that President Biden was refusing to “do something about this stuff”.

Not only had the bomb cyclone ended two days prior, the White House pointed out that the president continued to work and monitor the situation, even while he is in St. Croix.

No matter where the President is, he is working. The President will continue to closely monitor updates and will remain in close touch with staff over the New Year.

Fact #5 : President Trump Took Far More Vacation Days

It should be pointed out that Donald Trump Jr’s father – the former President Donald Trump, once said that “I would not be a president who took vacations. I would not be a president that takes time off”.

Yet, his father – the former President Donald Trump, ended up taking 381 days of vacation time, most of which were spent at his own properties, directly / indirectly enriching himself during his vacation.

Claim : Dutch Government Closed Farms To Fight Climate Change!

People have been sharing videos of angry farmers blocking roads with their tractors, claiming that they are protesting the closure of farms and cattle ranchers by the Dutch government.

Such videos are now being spread in pro-CCP groups as “evidence” of corrupt Western governments, or how Western governments oppress the common people.

Angry and hungry farmers blocked the roads nationwide
Corrupt Dutch govt trying to artificially create food shortage.

Following politicians’ decision to close dozens of farms and cattle ranches to reduce nitrogen to comply with absurd EU rules on nitrogen pollution, angry Dutch farmers have issued an ultimatum and are threatening to block the country’s airports, ports and distribution centers.

The Dutch government wants to close 17,000 farms out of 50,000 by 2030 to reduce Nitrogen emissions. Their “leaders” have bought into the climate change hysteria during a time of impending global food shortages. These bozos have a few screws missing.

Truth : Dutch Government Did NOT Close Farms To Fight Climate Change!

These posts appear to be an intentional “misunderstanding” of the facts surrounding these Dutch farmers’ protests.

These protests have been covered extensively, and so have the Dutch government’s proposal. So it seems incredulous that people would continue to lie about this issue.

Fact #1 : Dutch Government Did NOT Close Any Farm / Cattle Ranch

Let’s start with the most basic fact – the Dutch government did not close any farm or cattle ranch. This is complete and utter nonsense.

There are no laws in the Netherlands that would permit the Dutch government to forcibly take over, or shut down, any farm or cattle ranch.

This kind of blatant lie can only perpetuate in the minds of conspiracy nutcases, and Chinese netizens because only authoritarian governments (like the CCP in China) are capable of such actions.

Seizing and closing farms and cattle ranch may be possible for the government in China, but not in the Netherlands.

In fact, the Dutch government has offered BUY OUT (not close) farms near nature reserves.

Fact #2 : Dutch Farmers Have Been Protesting Since 2019!

What many of these “concerned netizens” (intentionally?) do not tell you is that Dutch farmers have been protesting against such climate change laws since 2019.

Fact #3 : The Government Was Complying With A Court Order

This issue actually started way back in May 2019, the Dutch Administrative Court of the Council of State (the highest administrative body in the Netherlands) ruled that the Dutch government breached EU rules on protecting nature reserves from ammonia and nitrous oxide.

The Dutch Administrative Court suspended permits for all construction projects that pollute the atmosphere with nitrogen compounds, stalling the building of new homes, roads and airport runways… as well as the expansion of dairy, pig and poultry farms.

Fact #4 : Dutch Government Tried Other Measures First

To comply with the court order, the Dutch government tried other measures first.

For example, in 2020, they cut the maximum speed limit on roads in the Netherlands from 130 km/h to just 100 km/h for most of the day, to reduce nitrous oxide emissions.

The government also allocated more money to help farmers reduce emissions from pigs, and changed the composition of animal feed.

Fact #5 : Dutch Farms Produce A Lot Of Pollution

The problem is partly caused by Dutch farmers themselves. Their farms are highly concentrated, with four times more animal biomass per hectare than the EU average.

Dutch agriculture is responsible for 40% of the nitrogen pollution in the Netherlands. The entire construction sector, for example, is only responsible for 0.6% of nitrogen emissions.

Thanks to its large livestock sector, and intensive use of fertiliser, the Netherlands – the world’s second-largest agricultural exporter – is also one of the top greenhouse gas emitters in Europe.

Fact #6 : Only Farms Near Nature Reserves Are In Danger

Depending on their proximity to nature reserves (Natura-2000 areas), Dutch farms will have to reduce their nitrogen emissions by 12% to 70%.

Those located in or close to the Natura-2000 areas will be particularly hard-hit by the new nitrogen limits :

40% of the nitrogen sensitive Natura-2000 areas must be below the critical deposition value (< 255 mole per hectare) in 2025,
50% of the nitrogen sensitive Natura-2000 areas must be below the critical deposition value in 2030, and
74% of the nitrogen sensitive Natura-2000 areas must be below the critical deposition value in 2035.

Fact #7 : Provincial Government To Formulate Emission Reduction Plan

While the Dutch government came up with the plan to reduce nitrogen emissions to meet EU requirements, it is up to the Dutch provinces to develop the necessary measures to hit those targets.

Provincial governments have a year to formulate their own plans, to meet the pollution reduction targets.

Fact #8 : This Is Part Of EU Natura 2000 Conservation Efforts

This isn’t just a Dutch issue, it is actually part of the EU effort to protect the Natura 2000 network of vulnerable and endangered plant and animal habitats.

The Natura 2000 sites cover some 18% of the European Union land area, and 8% of its marine territory.

Fact #9 : Dutch Government Is Financing Agricultural Reforms

To help farmers meet those targets, the Dutch government has earmarked an extra €24.3 billion (about US$25.6 billion) to finance agricultural reforms and their existing buy-out programs.

Farmers who accept the government buy-out program can still open a new farm at a less sensitive location, as long as they substantially reduce nitrogen emissions.

Fact #10 : Protests Are ALLOWED In Real Democracies

What Chinese netizens may not be aware is that protests are not only common, they are allowed in real democracies.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, for example, defended the farmers’ right to protest, but reminded them not to break the law :

Freedom of speech and the right to demonstrate are a vital part of our democratic society, and I will always defend them.

But … it is not acceptable to create dangerous situations, it is not acceptable to intimidate officials, we will never accept that.

With the exception of a few farmers setting bales of hay on fire outside town halls and near roads, and attacking police officers, the majority of farmers have protested the proposed plan peacefully.

Was a “dead” Ukrainian crisis actor caught waking up on TV, during a live video of civilian casualties?!

Take a look at the viral video, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : “Dead” Ukrainian Crisis Actor Caught Waking Up On TV!

People are sharing a video which they claimed is evidence of Ukrainian fake news.

It shows a reporter speaking, with rows of black body bags behind him – supposedly civilian casualties in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

One of the “dead” Ukrainian crisis actor is seen fiddling with his body bag that was blowing in the wind, before a lady goes to help cover him up!

Ukraine live TV supposedly filming dead TV persons killed during the invasion. But during filming one of dead woke up. 🤣🤣🤣

What nonsense!!!

Truth : “Dead” Crisis Actor Was NOT Caught Waking Up On Ukrainian TV!

This is yet another example of anti-Ukrainian fake news, apparently created and distributed by pro-China activists.

Fact #1 : TV Broadcast Was In German

The video has the chyron, WIEN: DEMO GEGEN KLIMAPOLITIK, with one individual holding a sign that said “Aktuell Klimapolitik Nicht“.

Those are German words, not Ukrainian or Russian; and the reporter was speaking in German.

This is one of the reasons why I believe this to be a Chinese effort at misinformation, rather than Russian.

Russians would not waste their time with this video, because they know that most Europeans would be able to identify the German language even if they don’t understand it.

Fact #2 : oe24TV Is Austrian, Not Ukrainian

The video identifies the reporter as Marvin Bergauer of oe24TV – a TV channel that belongs to Österreich.

Österreich, which literally means Austria, is an Austrian newspaper that publishes in the German language.

Fact #3 : Video Was About A Climate Change Protest

The video was actually about a climate change protest in Vienna, as these English translations will tell you :

WIEN: DEMO GEGEN KLIMAPOLITIK = Vienna: Demo against climate policy
Aktuell Klimapolitik Nicht = No to the current climate policy

The “dead bodies” were not crisis actors, but 49 protesters in body bags outside the Federal Chancellery in Vienna. This was what oe24 reporter, Marvin Bergauer, was saying in German :

No greenhouse gas and reduction targets in Austria for 400 days. That is the official title of this event here, this demonstration.

It was organised by Fridays For Future… Here you can also see this protest action, which is somewhat macabre. Forty-nine people are lying here on the ground to represent the climate deaths.

Fact #4 : Video Was Taken Before Russian Invasion Of Ukraine

This video was recorded on 4 February 2022 – 20 days before Russia invaded Ukraine.

You can confirm this in the official oe24TV broadcast page for this protest, as well as this tweet by the Fridays for Future group in Vienna.

Fact #5 : Video Was Also Misused By COVID-19 Deniers

This video was also misused earlier by COVID-19 deniers who claimed that these are crisis actors in Germany who pretended to be dead COVID-19 patients.

They were sharing it as evidence that the COVID-19 pandemic was staged or planned, and that people did not actually die from it.

This video was already circulating in the West since 9 February 2022, so it would be really peculiar for Russian disinformation teams to reuse it.

This would suggest that the video is being used by Chinese disinformation efforts unfamiliar to its earlier circulation in the West.

The Malaysia Ministry of Education just announced that the 2021/2022 school terms will be postponed 1 week after massive floods!

Here are the details…

Malaysia School Term Postponed 1 Week Because Of Floods!

As detailed earlier, the 2021 school term in Malaysia will be extended into February 2022, while the 2022 school term in Malaysia will begin in March 2022.

On 24 December 2021, the Malaysia Ministry of Education (KPM) announced that the 2021/2022 school term will be postponed one week.

They made this decision after many teachers, students and their families were affected by massive floods.

Note : KPM did not reveal when the 2021 school term will end, and whether they will maintain the 3-week term holiday in March 2022.

Here is the new 2021/2022 school term schedule for the year 2022, based on what we know so far :

Group A

Group A states are Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

Year-end school holiday will take place from 10 December 2021 until 8 January 2022
2021 academic year will continue from 9 January until 3 March 2022
If they maintain the 3-week term holiday, it will be from 4 March until 27 March 2022

Note : Until further notice, schools will likely continue rotation, so half the students may not return to class until 16 January 2021.

Group A	School Starts	School Ends	Days
Term 3	9 January 2022	3 March 2022	36
Term Holiday	4 March 2022	27 March 2022	24

Group B

Group B states are Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

Year-end school holiday will take place from 11 December 2021 until 9 January 2022
2021 academic year will continue from 10 January until 4 March 2022
If they maintain the 3-week term holiday, it will be from 5 March until 27 March 2022

Note : Until further notice, schools will likely continue rotation, so half the students may not return to class until 17 January 2021.

Power went out in many areas across Malaysia, after TNB shut hundreds of power substations due to flood waters!

Power Out: TNB Shuts Hundreds Of Substations Due To Flood!

On 19 December 2021, TNB announced that they shut down 333 power substations due to the dire flood situation, and the risk of further flash floods.

Pahang : 137 substations, 17251 homes affected
Selangor : 117 substations, 5062 homes affected
Kuala Lumpur : 45 substations, 4450 homes affected
Negeri Sembilan : 17 substations, 284 homes affected
Melaka : 10 substations, 634 homes affected
Kelantan : 7 substations, 470 homes affected

Some electricity supply through TNB mobile generators were provided to temporary evacuation centers (PPS) that were affected by the power disruption.

TNB had some advice for consumers in flooded areas :

Stay away from electricity poles, installations and cables that have been submerged in flood waters, even if they are insulated.
Be careful when using electrical appliances in flooded premises.
Avoid touching electrical appliances and switches with wet or damp hands.
Get a wiring contractor registered with the Energy Commission to inspect wiring in flooded premises, after waters recede

TNB also asked consumers to contact the TNB Careline at 15454 if TNB power installations or infrastructure had shifted or collapsed.

TNB Power Disruption : Current List Of Affected Areas

TNB has been gradually restoring power to areas where flood waters have receded. However, power may not be restored until TNB is certain that it is safe to reactivate the substation.

Dell Commissions Largest Solar Panel Globally In Malaysia!

Dell Technologies just commissioned the largest on-site solar panel globally at their Asia Pacific Customer Centre (APCC2) in Bukit Mertajam, Penang in Malaysia!

This RM2.25 million (~US$550,000) solar photovoltaic system is the first in Southeast Asia for a Dell Technologies facility.

This 700 kWp rooftop system consists of 1,590 highly-efficient solar panels, that will produce nearly 1,000 MWh of renewable electricity every year.

That is enough to power more than ¼ of the production lines at this 24-hour facility, reducing its annual greenhouse gas emissions by about 650 metric tonnes!

Dell Solar Panel In Malaysia : Towards Progress Made Real 2030!

This commissioning of such a large solar panel system is part of Dell Technologies’ Progress Made Real 2030 plan to create a positive and lasting social impact on humankind and the planet through 2030 and beyond.

Amongst other goals, Progress Made Real aims to source 75% of electricity from renewal energy sources across all Dell Technologies facilities by 2030, and 100% by 2040, with the goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

“We all have a role in protecting the planet. That is why Dell Technologies has committed to reducing our emissions across facilities, our supply chain and in the energy intensity of our products over the next decade, and reaching net zero emissions by 2050,” said Pang Yee Beng, senior vice president, South Asia, and managing director, Malaysia, Dell Technologies. “This solar power installation is key to us achieving this goal and we are extremely proud to lead the way in Malaysia with our largest on-site solar power installation globally to reduce emissions and create positive environmental impact.”

Did Al Gore Say North Pole Will Be Ice-Free By 2013?

You may have seen your friends and even favourite celebrities sharing it, laughing at Al Gore’s stupidity.

He’s such a dolt! How can global warming be real if the North Pole is still so freaking cold?!

No, Al Gore Did NOT Say North Pole Will Be Ice-Free By 2013

This meme would be somewhat funny, if anti-climate change deniers did not keep updating it and reusing it to push their false beliefs.

Whether people who shared them are actual climate change deniers, or just useful idiots, is hard to know.

But what we know is that this meme is FALSE. Al Gore did not say that the North Pole will be ice-free by 2013.

Here are the facts…

Fact #1 : Al Gore Misstated Forecast In 2009

This false meme is based on a flub Al Gore made in 2009, when he spoke at the Copenhagen climate change summit.

He misstated a forecast one scientist provided his office earlier, stating that “some of the models suggest to Dr Maslowski that there is a 75% chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within 5 to 7 years“.

The truth is – Dr Maslowski, who worked at the US Naval Postgraduate School in California, stated that his results (at that time) gave a 6-year projection for the melting of 80% of the sea ice, but he expects some ice to remain beyond 2020.

Fact #2 : They Were Referring To Sea Ice

A very important point that climate change deniers don’t tell you is that both Al Gore and Dr. Maslowski were not talking about the entire North Pole being ice-free.

They were both talking about SEA ICE at the North Pole disappearing during the warmest months of the year.

Historically, sea ice drops by 50~56% every year, so an 80% reduction in sea ice during the warmest months would be a possibility in a warming world, albeit an unprecedented one.

These two NASA maps show the change in sea ice in 2016. As you can see, the amount of sea ice present at the North Pole greatly fluctuates throughout the year.

Fact #3 : 2009 + 5~7 Years ≠ 2013

What really perplexes us is how bad climate change deniers are at basic mathematics.

Even if you take Al Gore’s flub at full face value, the North Pole would be ice-free by 2014 to 2016, not 2013.

Yet, every year, they use the same false meme on the North Pole becoming ice-free by 2013.

They should have stayed in school…

Fact #4 : That Was An Extreme Projection

The projection by Dr. Wieslav Maslowski was considered an extreme projection, with most climate scientists agreeing that a 20-30 year timescale is more likely for the disappearance of sea ice.

Even so, he did not say the North Pole would be completely ice-free, only that 80% of the Arctic sea ice would disappear during the warmest months.

Fact #5 : Sea Ice Continues To Shrink

Al Gore may have been wrong in saying that the North Pole would be ice-free by 2014 to 2016, but it is a fact that the Arctic sea ice have been steadily shrinking over years.

Forget about projections. Here are the actual satellite measurements of Arctic sea ice from 1979 until 2015.

The minimum area of Arctic sea ice halved from about 7.5 million km² in 1980 to 3.4 million km² in September 2012.

With maximum Arctic sea ice between 14-16 million km² in the coolest months, a drop to 3.4 million km² represents a 75.7% drop in sea ice – not very far off from what Dr. Maslowski modelled in 2009…

USS Al Gore Global Warming Research Vessel Frozen In Ice?

People keep sharing pictures of the USS Al Gore Global Warming Research Vessel frozen in ice, some as a joke, some as evidence that global warming does not actually exist.

You will find these being shared on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Reddit, and even some websites.

Note : We intentionally placed the FALSE overlay to prevent them from being further abused.

Because these have been debunked previously on our sister website, someone started sharing a new picture instead. This time, of a much larger ship.

USS Al Gore : The Facts

As you can surmise by now, those pictures are NOT of the USS Al Gore Global Warming Research Vessel.

Climate change is real, and sharing pictures of frozen boats is not going to change the fact that the world is getting warmer.

Here are the reasons why these are all FAKE PICTURES being shared by climate change deniers.

Fact #1 : There Is No USS Al Gore

The USS Al Gore does not exist. The USS (United States Ship) designation is reserved for active commissioned ships of the US Navy. There has never been a ship named for former US Vice-President Al Gore.

Well, a FICTIONAL submersible aircraft carrier – the CVJ-01 USS Al Gore – was named after him, but I don’t suppose that counts… because it’s a SUBMARINE! 😀

Fact #2 : Al Gore Has A Houseboat Called Bio-Solar One

Al Gore has a 100-foot houseboat that is powered by bio-diesel and solar panels, called Bio-Solar One. It was launched sometime in September 2008.

Here, you can see it at the Hurricane Marina in Silver Point, Tennessee. Completely different design and size, and NEVER FROZEN in ice.

Fact #3 : The Frozen Boat Was In Switzerland

The original fake picture of USS Al Gore was of a boat moored off Versoix, on the shores of Lake Geneva, Switzerland.

It was hit by an ice storm in 2005 – the freezing rain froze into a thick glaze of ice that covered not only this boat, but also vehicles, buildings and the streets.

This photo of the same boat was taken by a different photographer, Santiago Puig Viladomiu.

The date stamp is clear – this was taken on 28 January 2005 – more than 3.5 years before Al Gore’s Bio-Solar One houseboat was even launched.

Fact #4 : The Frozen Ship Was In Russia

The newer fake photo of USS Al Gore was really taken on 19 January 2006, of the ship GEORG OTS at the port of Saint Petersburg in Russia.

GEORG OTS (IMO 7625835) is a passenger Roll-On, Roll-Off (Ro-Ro) cargo ship built in 1980, and has ceased service since 2013, last seen heading to Zhoushan, China.
