Are Tzu Chi Volunteers Giving Out Lian Hua + Ivermectin?

Are Tzu Chi Volunteers Giving Out Lian Hua + Ivermectin?

Are Tzu Chi volunteers privately giving out Lian Hua Qing Wen and ivermectin to COVID-19 patients?

Take a look at the viral messages, and find out what the FACTS really are!

Claim : Tzu Chi Volunteers Giving Out Lian Hua + Ivermectin!

These messages are going viral of WhatsApp, claiming that Tzu Chi volunteers are privately giving out Lian Hua Qing Wen and Ivermectin to COVID-19 patients.

For the past many serious covid patients called Tzu Chi for help … privately volunteers passed them Lian Hua and ivermectin, etc at least a gamble to take … if go hospital , will die there as no treatment is given … early stage breathing difficulties they may give ventilators …if very serious …Will leave to struggle …

Yes people told me if kena covid serious is best don’t admit gov hospital coz they’re too busy to take cars of u. You’ll be left out and many will die coz not properly taken care. Of can , got money go gov hospital or get stand by lian hua, zinc, vit C, invermectin. Also stand by oxygen

Truth : Tzu Chi Does Not Give Out Lian Hua Or Ivermectin!

This is yet another piece of COVID-19 fake news circulating on WhatsApp. Here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : Tzu Chi Does Not Give Out Lian Hua Or Ivermectin!

I called up the Tzu Chi Foundation’s office, and they confirmed that the viral message is fake news.

The Tzu Chi Foundation cannot dictate what their volunteers do privately, or prevent people from claiming to be their volunteers.

However, they do not know of any of their volunteers doing this, and they certainly do not give out Lian Hua Qing Wen or ivermectin.

Neither does the Tzu Chi Foundation advocate their use for COVID-19.

Fact #2 : Ventilators Are NEVER Used As Early Treatment

Mechanical ventilation is a form of life support – a last resort when the patient is unable to breathe on their own.

Ventilators are NEVER used as an early treatment for COVID-19, as they can potentially injure the patient’s lungs or respiratory muscles.

Fact #3 : Government Hospitals Do Not Leave Patients To Die

Government hospitals get an undeservedly bad rap for inefficiency and slow service.

The truth is Malaysian public healthcare system is an institution we can count on – they will never turn patients away or leave them to die.

Since the pandemic started, it has massively expanded its capacity to treat COVID-19 patients, converting wards into temporary ICUs, and opening up massive quarantine centres for those who have mild COVID-19.

Fact #4 : Vitamin C Not Proven To Work Against COVID-19

Vitamin C has not been proven to work against COVID-19.

  • US CDC :  Insufficient evidence to recommend either for or against the use of vitamin C for the treatment of COVID-19.
  • TGA : No evidence to support intravenous high-dose vitamin C in the management of COVID-19

Fact #5 : Zinc Not Proven To Work Against COVID-19

Zinc has not been proven to work against COVID-19.

  • US CDC : Insufficient evidence to recommend either for or against the use of vitamin C for the treatment of COVID-19.
  • US CDC : Recommends against using zinc supplementation above recommended dietary allowance for the prevention of COVID-19.
  • TGA : Insufficient data to recommend neither for nor against the use of zinc for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19.

Fact #6 : Ivermectin Does Not Work Against COVID-19

Ivermectin has been shown to work against COVID-19 in lab (in vitro) studies, but does NOT improve clinical outcomes or prevent transmission.

That is why the WHO and the vast majority of health authorities around the world DO NOT advocate using ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19.

Read more : Latest Ivermectin COVID-19 Study : What Does It Really Say?

Fact #7 : Lian Hua Qing Wen NOT Proven To Cure COVID-19

Despite being approved as a treatment for mild to moderate COVID-19 cases in China, there is currently no evidence that Lian Hua Qing Wen can cure COVID-19.

That’s hardly surprising because Lianhua Qingwen is merely a mix of herbs :

Forsythia suspensa (Thunb.) Vahl (Weeping Forsythia) Fruit -27.41mg Lonicera japonica Thunb. (Japanese Honeysuckle) Flower-27.41mg Gypsum Fibrosum-27.41mg Isatis indigotica Fort. (Isatis) Root-27.41mg Dryopteris crassirhizoma Nakai (Male Fern) Rhizome and Frond Bases -27.41 mg Houttuynia cordata Thunb. (Heartleaf Houttuynia) Aerial Part- 27.41 mg Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth. (Cablin Patchouli) Aerial Part-9.40mg Ephedra sinica Stapf (Ephedra) Herbaceous Stem-9.14mg Prunus sibirica L. (Bitter Apricot) Ripe Seeds-9.14 mg Rhodiola crenulata (Hook. f. et Thomson) H.Ohba (Bigflower Rhodiola) Root and Rhizome-9.14mg Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch. (Liquorice) Root and Rhizome-9.14mg 1-Menthol-7.50mg Rheum palmatum L. (Rhubarb) Root and Rhizome-5.47mg

None of its ingredients have been proven to cure COVID-19, although poor quality studies have demonstrated that it is effective in reducing fever.

And yes, Forsythia is the name of the fake homeopathic cure created by Jude Law’s character – Alan Krumwiede in the medical thriller – Contagion.

Fact #8 : Ivermectin Can Cause Liver Damage

I should also warn strongly against self-medicating with ivermectin, as it is not as safe as FLCCC or MAECC make it out to be.

Usual treatment against parasites involves a single dose of ivermectin, not daily or weekly doses.

When people started taking ivermectin prophylactically to “prevent COVID-19”, doctors started reporting cases of liver damage.

Scam Alert : COVID-19 Relief Fund By Federal Government!

Please watch out for the COVID-19 Relief Fund by Federal Government scam!

Find out why it is just a SCAM, and WARN your family and friends!

Scam Alert : COVID-19 Relief Fund By Federal Government!

People are now sharing this COVID-19 RELIEF FUND message on WhatsApp :

Apply For The Covid-19 Relief Fund Provided By The Federal Government. Hurry Up, It takes few seconds to apply. Dont [sic] miss this opportunity.

Apply Here

Note : I added the Scam Alert overlay to prevent it from being further abused.

COVID-19 Relief Fund : Why This Is A Scam

I know many of us are in dire straits during this COVID-19 pandemic, having lost jobs, income or even loved ones. Unfortunately, scammers are counting on our desperation to prey on us.

I will now show you why this COVID-19 Relief Fund message is just another scam. Please warn your family and friends!

Fact #1 : No Global Relief Fund By Any Federal Government

When a scam tells you that “the federal government” is giving away money, you should always ask yourself – WHICH federal government???

No government in the world is giving away money to anyone across the world. Not even the three richest economies in the world – US, China and the EU – have a COVID-19 relief fund to give money away like that.

Fact #2 : The Three Questions Are A Red Herring

Most of these scams employ simple but useless questions to trick you into thinking that this is genuine. Look at the three questions this scam is asking :

  • What’s your age range?
  • How much money do you want to receive?
  • What’s your employment status?

In a real government relief programme, your eligibility status will be based on some official document – your identity card, driver’s licence, passport, etc.

No one is going to give you money simply because you answer a few questions. And NO ONE is ever going to ask you how much you want to receive!

Fact #3 : No Government Will Ask You To Invite Friends / Groups

A real government relief programme will NEVER ask you to invite friends and groups on WhatsApp, much less insist that you invite 15 friends or 5 groups before they give you money.

That’s a dead giveaway that this is a scam, and the scammers want you to help them scam other people. So NEVER invite your friends to join the scam.

Fact #4 : SNF Global Relief Initiative Is Not By Any Federal Government

To make the scam look legit, the scammers used the SNF Global Relief Initiative for the COVID-19 Pandemic graphics.

That initiative is not by any government, but by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

And just in case you are wondering, no, the SNF does not give away money to individuals. They only make grants to non-profit organisations and collaborative funds.

Fact #5 : The Domain Is New + Protected

If you check the domain “relief-fund.live“, you will see that it was only created on 24 March 2021.

Even more suspiciously, all contact and ownership details have been REDACTED FOR PRIVACY. That’s often a sign that the owners are worried about being sued or prosecuted.

Email: Please query the RDDS service of the Registrar of Record identified in this output for information on how to contact the Registrant, Admin, or Tech contact of the queried domain name.

Fact #6 : The Comments Are Completely Faked

You may notice a bunch of comments at the bottom of the scam website. They are only there to trick you into thinking that other people received the money.

Try refreshing them. They will never change, unlike a real live comment stream. The time codes will not change either.

Try clicking on the Like option. Nothing will happen. Your Like will not register.

That’s because this is a fake comment stream. It’s all hardcoded and fixed.

Now that you know that this is just another scam, please warn your family and friends.

And please remember – no one gives away money like that. Don’t fall for these scams!

Waz Lian – Hotel Sentral Food Bank Mix-Up Explained!

There has been some kerfuffle over the Waz Lian – Hotel Sentral food bank pre-registration that went viral today.

Here is a quick look at what happened, and why Uncle Kentang got mixed up with it!

Waz Lian – Hotel Sentral Food Bank Mix-Up? What’s Going On?

On 24 June 2021, a Google Forms link was shared on Facebook, asking people to sign up for free food bags :

Please help to share the news

Please share this information with any loved ones or neighbors who are in need of food assistance.
Pre-registration is required. Click the link here to register: http://bit.ly/WLFSentralCSR

If you know anyone in need of food, please invite them to pre-register. Our hotel collaborating with Waz Lian Foundation to organise Food Bank to help underpriviledge people. Once the application is approved, they can collect the food bag from Hotel Sentral KL, Melaka, JB, Penang, Kuantan and Kelantan.

Today, Kuan Chee Heng, a social activist who is popularly known as Uncle Kentang, issued a message :

I did not post out my number for food bank. Konsan Wong is not me. I do not have a Food Bank. We do not link to Waz Lian Food bank. Surprise and amused. More than 1000 calls has bombarded my phones.

Uncle Kentang.

The first thing that came to my mind – this is another scam. But I took a closer look, and discovered that it was just a mix-up!

Waz Lian – Hotel Sentral Food Bank Mix-Up Explained!

The truth is this is a legitimate food bank drive organised by the Waz Lian Foundation and the Hotel Sentral Group.

Those who pre-registered for this food bank will receive a bag of food in July 2021 at six hotels under the Hotel Sentral Group in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Johor Bahru, Penang, Kuantan and Kelantan.

They received 10,000 applications, and was forced to close registration at around 5 PM on 29 June 2021.

That’s how many people desperately need help to sustain themselves during the FMCO 3.0 lockdown…

Unfortunately, some “kind soul” added this following section to the original message, and then shared it on WhatsApp where it went viral.

In that additional section, the person asked people to call “Konsang Wong” for free food, and listed Kuan Chee Heng’s telephone numbers.

No wonder Uncle Kentang received more than 1000 calls. People probably thought he was organising this food bank!

Love your life. Don’t commit suicide.

Konsang Wong :

Tzu Chi :

把这条消息分享出去 !

I do not know if the person did it maliciously or accidentally. But it is obvious that Uncle Kentang (Kuan Chee Heng) is not Konsang Wong.

The telephone numbers for Tzu Chi are also wrong. They are for a vegetarian cafe, not Tzu Chi!

And the entire section had NOTHING to do with the Waz Lian – Hotel Sentral food bank drive.

Ji Shan Foundation : New Charity Scam Exposed!

Ji Shan Foundation is yet another fake charity misusing photos of sick children and a sob story to CHEAT you of your hard-earned money!

Please help us TAKE THEM DOWN, and SHARE THIS ARTICLE so others won’t get cheated too!

Ji Shan Foundation Charity Scam

Ji Shan Foundation is a charity scam that recently posted this fake call for contributions :

[My sister and brother are suffering from leukaemia] [Complications from a cold] [#DuringMCO, cannot give up no matter how difficult] [Treatment costs are urgent and families cannot support]

Those who wish to donate can donate the money to your dad’s account:
Name: Sim Zhi Yew (Shen Zhiyao)
CIMB BANK : 【7073855324】

Patient Profile:
Name: Shen Jiaqi [7 years old] Shen Zihao [5 years old] Gender: Female / male
Address: Kelantan
Condition: Acute lymphocyte leukemia

Note : We added the Scam overlay to avoid further abuse of the picture.

Ji Shan Foundation Charity Scam Exposed!

This scam is actually an old RECYCLED scam. It was first posted in March 2019, the same day the Ji Shan Foundation Facebook page was created.

At that time, the Ji Shan Foundation scam urged people to donate to a different “father” – Chai Kok Weng, with a different set of photos.

That same scam was updated on 16 April 2020 to change the name of the benefactor to Sim Zhi Yew, with a different bank account!

Ji Shan Foundation STOLE the photos from Lim Ek who posted those photos on 4 December 2019.

As you can see in his post, his two children were admitted to the Parkcity Medical Centre for Influenza A (H1N1), not leukaemia.

Sim Zhi Yew + Chai Kok Weng : Known Charity Scammers

Both Sim Zhi Yew and Chai Kok Weng have been reported as charity scammers for some time now.

They are currently in the list of 79 reported charity scammers in Malaysia, with the following bank accounts.

  • Sim Zhi Yew : Public Bank 6482344412CIMB 7073855324
  • Chai Kok Weng : RHB 10809800162232

Recommended : Charity Scam : Current List Of 79 Reported Scammers!

Ji Shan Foundation Charity : REPORT THEM!

Despite people reporting the Ji Shan Foundation charity page for over a year now, Facebook has left them alone.

It looks like it will take A LOT of people reporting them before Facebook will do anything. You can help take them down by reporting their page as Fraud or scam :

Charity Scam : How To Avoid It?

While many of us want to help people in need, you should NEVER send money to a charity that you have not first verified to be a genuine charity.

You should certainly NOT send money to any person, without first confirming that he/she really needs the money for that critical surgery or medication.

It doesn’t matter if you are just sending a small token sum. Even ringgit / dollar you send them quickly becomes a substantial amount, and worse, encourages them to create new charity scams.

In Malaysia, you can also use this Commercial Crime Investigations Division page* to check if a bank account number or telephone number has been reported to the Royal Malaysian Police.

* However, please note that the CCID database is not comprehensive, because scammers can easily change their bank accounts and telephone numbers. Also, many victims are unaware they were scammed, and thus never reported them to the police.

The safest thing to do is NOT to send anyone money. Visit them directly to ascertain their authenticity, and donate directly to them.

SpecialEffect – Helping Disabled Kids Have Fun With Games!

In the middle of Ian Livingstone’s talk on the game industry, he shared a video that brought tears to many eyes in the hall. The video showcased the amazing work that a charity called SpecialEffect has accomplished – enabling children with severe disabilities to play computer games like the rest of us!

Warning : The video is emotionally charged, and very addictive. Just be sure prepare some tissues first, because someone’s always cutting those damn onions when the video is playing!

Ian Livingstone CBE is an ambassador for SpecialEffect, and he is visibly proud of the work they have done. It’s obvious to see why. Even I keep playing the video over and over again just to see the joy in their faces!

Their unbridled joy is why I’m writing this special. More children (and adults) with disabilities deserve to enjoy games as well!

The SpecialEffect Mission

SpecialEffect is a UK-based charity that focuses on enabling children (and even adults) with severe disabilities to enjoy computer games. Their team of game technologists and occupational therapists customise equipment to help children and adults with different disabilities access the computer games that they want to play.

But it is not just for the entertainment value. Playing computer games allow them to reconnect with the world, and feel a greater sense of inclusion that will rebuild their confidence. It will also help kickstart or enhance their rehabilitation.

Some Of Those They Have Helped

What Can You Do?

If you are in the United Kingdom, you can help SpecialEffect by donating your services or your money.

[adrotate banner=”4″]

If you are outside the United Kingdom, I’m highlighting their work so that you may be inspired to start similar programs in your country, state or district.

Their success in using games to improve the lives of people with severe disabilities may also inspire therapists to consider using them as therapeutic tools.

While SpecialEffect does not provide their free services outside of the United Kingdom, they can offer advice to any person or organisation who are interested in emulating the work they have done. You can call them at 01608-810055 or email them at info@specialeffect.org.uk.

Microsoft Philanthropies Donates US$1 Billion In Resources

DAVOS-KLOSTERS, Switzerland — Jan. 19, 2016 Microsoft Corp. CEO Satya Nadella announced a new three-part initiative to ensure that Microsoft’s cloud computing resources serve the public good. As part of this initiative the recently formed Microsoft Philanthropies will donate $1 billion of Microsoft Cloud Services, measured at fair market value, to serve nonprofits and university researchers over the next three years.

Microsoft Philanthropies Donates US$1 Billion In Resources

Microsoft’s three-part commitment focuses on ensuring the cloud can serve the public good in the broadest sense by providing additional cloud resources to nonprofits, increasing access for university researchers and helping solve last-mile Internet access challenges.

“Microsoft is empowering mission-driven organizations around the planet with a donation of cloud computing services — the most transformative technologies of our generation,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who on Wednesday will speak at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “Now more than 70,000 organizations will have access to technology that will help them solve our greatest societal challenges and ultimately improve the human condition and drive new growth equally.”

Cloud computing has emerged as a vital resource for unlocking the secrets held by data in ways that create new insights and lead to breakthroughs not just for science and technology, but for the full range of economic and social challenges and the delivery of better human services. It can also improve communications and problem-solving and help organizations work in a more productive and more efficient manner.

In September 2015, 193 heads of state and other world leaders unanimously adopted 17 sustainable development goals to achieve by 2030. This ambitious agenda — which includes ending poverty, ending hunger, and ensuring affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all — will only be achievable with the benefit of significant inventions and technology innovations. The scale and computational power enabled by cloud computing will be essential to unlocking solutions to this list of some of the world’s seemingly unsolvable problems.

“We’re committed to helping nonprofit groups and universities use cloud computing to address fundamental human challenges,” said Microsoft President Brad Smith. “One of our ambitions for Microsoft Philanthropies is to partner with these groups and ensure that cloud computing reaches more people and serves the broadest array of societal needs.”

Specific elements of the new initiative include these:

  • Serving the broad needs of the nonprofit community. A new global donation program will make Microsoft Cloud Services, including Microsoft Azure, Power BI, CRM Online and the Enterprise Mobility Suite, more available to nonprofit organizations through Microsoft Philanthropies. The program builds upon an already successful program that provides similar access to Office 365 for nonprofits. The nonprofit program for Microsoft Cloud Services will begin rolling out this spring, and Microsoft Philanthropies aims to serve 70,000 nonprofits in the next three years with these Microsoft Cloud Services.
  • Expanding access to cloud resources for faculty research in universities. Microsoft Research and Microsoft Philanthropies will expand by 50 percent the Microsoft Azure for Research program that grants free Azure storage and computing resources to help faculty accelerate their research on cutting-edge challenges. Today this program provides free cloud computing resources for over 600 research projects on six continents.
  • Reaching new communities with last-mile connectivity and cloud services. Microsoft Philanthropies and Microsoft Business Development will combine donated access to Microsoft Cloud services with investments in new, low-cost last-mile Internet access technologies and community training. By combining cloud services with connectivity and training, and focusing on new public-private partnerships, Microsoft Philanthropies intends to support 20 of these projects in at least 15 countries around the world by the middle of 2017.

Providing nonprofits with better access to Microsoft Cloud Services, including the powerful Microsoft Azure platform, builds upon Microsoft’s longtime commitment to making cutting-edge technology available at no or low cost to organizations working on solving some of society’s toughest problems.

In recent years, as organizations have increased their reliance on cloud computing, Microsoft has worked in partnership with a broad range of organizations focused on big challenges. The initiatives show the potential impact that increased access to the transformational power of cloud computing can have:

  • Microsoft Research is working with the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) Biodiversity Research Program through the use of 700 wireless sensors, cloud technology and automated data-stream processing to understand how cloud forests work and study the impact of climate changes on the communities supported by those forests.
  • [adrotate group=”2″]Through a partnership with the University of Texas at Austin called Project Catapult, Microsoft makes advanced cloud computing technology available to researchers that have demonstrated the ability to deliver lower power and cost, higher-quality results, or a combination of both.
  • In Botswana, Microsoft is partnering with the Botswana Innovation Hub, Vista Life Sciences, the United States Agency for International Development and Global Broadband Solutions to assist Botswana, the University of Pennsylvania and the Ministry of Health in leveraging cloud-based health records management and Internet access enabled by use of TV white spaces to remotely deliver specialized medicine, including cervical cancer screenings to women at rural healthcare clinics.

“Access to technology is critical to the operations and services of NetHope and its 44 humanitarian nonprofit member organizations,” said NetHope CEO Lauren Woodman. “The power of cloud computing will create exponential value for all we do to serve the millions of people in our communities around the world.”

That Dragon Cancer Game Proceeds To Go To Charities

IRVINE, Calif. – Razer, a world leader in connected devices and software for gamers, today announced that all Razer’s proceeds from the sale of the game That Dragon, Cancer via Razer Cortex for Android TV will go to two cancer charities, Morgan Adams Foundation, which directly funds cancer research through working with physicians, and Family House SF, which provides free housing to families visiting hospitals in San Francisco to undergo prolonged clinical trials and treatment. The two organizations were selected due to their importance to the Green family.

That Dragon, Cancer is an immersive, narrative videogame that retells Joel Green’s 4-year fight against cancer through about two hours of poetic, imaginative gameplay that explores themes of faith, hope, and love. Using simple point-and-click interaction, the player is invited to slow down and immerse themselves in a deeply personal memoir featuring audio taken from Green family home videos, spoken word poetry, and in-game tributes to the loved ones of over 200 Kickstarter backers.

Joel Green was diagnosed with AT/RT brain cancer at twelve months old and was given a terminal diagnosis shortly before age two. Though initially given only a short time to live, Joel continued to survive for four more years before eventually succumbing to the cancer on March 13, 2014.

[adrotate banner=”4″]Developed by Joel’s parents Ryan and Amy Green, partner Josh Larson, and the rest of the Numinous Games studio, That Dragon, Cancer was largely funded by OUYA, which was acquired by Razer in July 2015 and now provides content for Android TV games via Razer’s Forge TV micro console. Upon its release, That Dragon, Cancer will mark OUYA’s first step into multi-platform game publishing as a promotional partner with Numinous Games for Forge TV as well as on Windows and Mac OS.

“When we first acquired OUYA, it was with the vision of bringing Android gaming to the living room,” says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO. “By doing that, we now have the opportunity to give back to the community in a big way, by bringing this game to the public and by making sure all our proceeds go right back into the fight against cancer.”

In celebration of the game’s launch, Numinous Games is encouraging supporters to host a pancake party for friends and family – pancakes were Joel’s favorite food – and post pictures to social media channels with the hashtag #thatdragoncancer. To show its solidarity with the developers, Razer will be hosting a “Pancakes for Lunch” party at its offices around the world and supporting other community parties with giveaways.
