Xi Jinping Appears For First Time Since Coup Rumours

Xi Jinping Appears For First Time Since Coup Rumours

Chinese President Xi Jinping appeared for the first time since coup rumours surfaced amidst his disappearance.

Here is what you need to know…

Xi Jinping Appears For First Time Since Coup Rumours

Chinese President Xi Jinping made his first public appearance on Tuesday, 27 September 2022, since returning from his trip to Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

It was his disappearance since then, coupled with a video of military vehicles heading towards Beijing and sudden, unexplained flight cancellations, that sparked rumours of a military coup.

However, those coup rumours were squashed when Xi Jinping was shown on TV visiting an exhibition in Beijing showcasing China’s achievements during his decade in power, called Forging Ahead in the New Era.

On that CCTV evening broadcast, Xi Jinping was seen wearing a face mask while taking a tour of the displays at the Beijing Exhibition Hall, where his photos featured heavily.

He was also seen in the company of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and other members of the Politburo Standing Committee – Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Hunting, Zhao Leji and Han Zheng.

Despite unverified claims that he was under house arrest, Xi was likely undergoing the standard 7+3 quarantine required by China’s zero COVID policy.

One may be forgiven in thinking that this TV broadcast of Xi, backed by the top Chinese leaders, seems specifically designed to convey the message – he’s very much still in power.

Xi Jinping Coup Rumours : Much Ado About Nothing

Right now, much has been made about a short video showing military vehicles heading towards Beijing, and over 9,000 flights getting cancelled across China.

However, these “evidence” of a coup in China have not withstood serious analysis.

  • There is no evidence of an 80 km-long military convoy entering Beijing.
  • The viral video shows a minute or so of several military vehicles travelling on a highway, nothing more.
  • There is no evidence of any lockdown of Beijing, which would certainly occur during a military coup.
  • While there was a large number of cancelled flights in Beijing airports, quite a number of commercial flights were still allowed to fly in and out.
  • Airports in the rest of China were generally functioning normally, even though there were some cancelled flights.
  • Flight cancellation is pretty common in China, especially when it comes to COVID-19 mitigation.
  • Commercial air traffic in and out of Beijing was restored by Monday, 26 September 2022.
  • Xi Jinping issued two letters a day after he was supposedly under house arrest after being overthrown.
  • Sun Lijun and his anti-Xi Jinping “political clique” were sentenced to long jail sentences.
  • CCP delegates were “elected” as expected, together with Xi Jinping himself.
  • CCP mouthpiece, the People’s Daily, reaffirmed Xi Jinping as the party’s “core”.

To top it off, the CCP is continuing its business as usual, firming up support for Xi Jinping’s third term at the upcoming CCP Congress.

Now that Xi was publicly seen accompanied by top Chinese military leaders, any fantasy of a military coup in China is finally dead.

Fact Check: Ricky Bibey Cause of Death + CCTV Video

Find out how Ricky Bibey died, and if there really is CCTV video footage showing what went on in his hotel room!

Claim : Ricky Bibey Was Murdered, CCTV Video Shows

Rumour blogs have quickly jumped onto the Ricky Bibey story, claiming that he was murdered by his lover, Jennie Platt.

Here is an excerpt from one example by 24update.net from Bangladesh, with the title “Ricky Bibey Cause of Death – Hotel Room CCTV Footage” :

Popular rugby player Ricky Bibey died at the age of 40. He was found dead in a hotel on July 17. The retired player was found dead at the Continental Hotel in Florence, Italy.

A woman with him was rescued with serious injuries. Her name is Jennie Platt. The woman was also seriously injured. The two were rescued and the woman was taken to a local hospital. And rugby player Ricky Bibey has been taken for autopsy.

The deputy woman is currently under close observation at the ICU. His statement has not yet been found. Injury marks were found on both bodies. It was initially considered a planned murder.

Truth : No CCTV Video Shows Ricky Bibey Murdered!

This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS created by irresponsible rumour blogs to generate more page views for the ad money, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : Ricky Bibey Died On July 16, 2022

Let’s start with the basics – they couldn’t even get the date right.

Ricky Bibey died on Saturday morning, July 16, 2022, not on July 17 as they claimed.

Fact #2 : Ricky Bibey Was With A Female Partner

Ricky Bibey checked into Hotel Continentale in Florence, Italy with a female companion on Friday night, July 15. After a night out, they arrived back at the hotel “in high spirits” at 2 AM on Saturday.

Several rumour blogs named his female companion as 43 year-old Jennie Platt – the owner of Jennie Platt Estates, where he worked. That is likely true, but official sources have not named the woman, as of July 18, 2022.

From what we understand, Jennie Platt has been his partner for at least two years now, and she has two children from a previous relationship.

Read more : Did Danielle Hampson Die In Car Accident On Wedding Day?!

Fact #3 : Ricky Bibey + Partner Were Not Found In Bed

The rumour blogs falsely claimed that Ricky Bibey was found in bed, together with his female partner – both covered in blood.

According to the Italian newspaper, La Nazione, she ran out of the room.

  • Loud noises were heard from their room early in the morning.
  • Just after 7 AM, the woman ran out of the room, covered in blood and screaming for help to neighbouring rooms and a cleaner.
  • The reception alerted the Italian police who arrived shortly after 8 AM.

La Nazione also stated that Ricky Bibey was found on the floor, not in his bed.

Fact #4 : Ricky Bibey’s Partner Was Not Seriously Injured

The rumour blogs falsely claimed that Ricky Bibey’s partner was seriously injured and was being treated in an ICU.

La Nazione stated that despite being bruised and covered in blood, the woman was not in danger of her life.

An insider told Daily Mail that “She is recovering but is still sedated so we are waiting for the go ahead from medical staff at the hospital.

In fact, the Italian police are planning to question her on the evening of July 17, or by the morning of July 18.

Read more : Did Ghislaine Maxwell Just Commit Suicide In Prison?!

Fact #5 : Police Do Not Suspect Murder

The rumour blogs are falsely calling this a murder to drive traffic to their sites. The Italian police do not suspect murder, either his partner by a third party.

Hotel Continentale staff confirmed that the couple returned alone, and no one followed them to their room. There were no signs of a break-in, and the police have confirmed that “no third party was involved“.

The woman who was with Ricky Bibey was not arrested, and the police are only planning to question her to understand what happened in the room.

An autopsy of Ricky Bibey’s body would be carried out on Monday, to “establish levels of alcohol and if any drugs were present“.

Fact #6 : Police Suspect Extreme Sex As Cause Of Death

The police forensics team inspected the room and removed some objects – one of which was said to be “a type of truncheon”.

The coroner, Dr. Martina Focardi, who was also on the scene, inspected the body and did not find any signs of violence.

The initial impression of the case investigators is that this was a case of extreme sex gone wrong, although they are also considering “some sort of domestic argument”.

Read more : John Albert Laylo Was Mistakenly Shot, Not Killed By Antifa!

Fact #7 : Ricky Bibey Appeared To Have Had A Seizure

According to a police source, both Ricky Bibey and his partner were found with a series of cuts, bruises and other injuries. However, she was more seriously injured than he was.

The police source also said that Ricky Bibey appeared to have had some sort of seizure, which could be his cause of death.

Fact #8 : There Is No CCTV Video Footage

The rumour blogs falsely claimed that there is CCTV video footage of what really happened in Ricky Bibey’s hotel room.

That’s nonsense. It is against the law to place or hide video or audio recording devices in hotel rooms. Hotels certainly won’t install CCTV cameras in their guest rooms.

This is just fake news created by rumour blogs to generate more traffic, just like how they falsely claim to have video recordings of Dani Hampson’s car accident.

Needless to say – none of these rumour blogs provided any kind of CCTV footage!

All articles posted by rumour blogs should be considered FAKE NEWS until proven otherwise.

Did Danielle Hampson Die In Car Accident On Wedding Day?!

Did Danielle Hampson die from a car accident on her wedding day with X Factor star, Tom Mann?!

Take a look at the viral claims, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : Danielle Hampson Died In Car Accident On Wedding Day!

A number of rumour / fake news websites have been capitalising on Danielle Hampson’s tragic death on the day of her wedding to X Factor star, Tom Mann.

They are claiming that she died from a car accident, and many even created videos that purportedly show the CCTV footage of the car accident that killed her. Here are a few examples.

Bareillyinfo / BareillyCollege : How did Danielle Hampson die? Cause of death explained

After the news came out everyone is intrigued to know the cause of her death. A car accident took the life of Danielle Hampson (confirmed).

Daniella Hampson’s Car Accident on 18 June 2022, happened exactly on her wedding day. Danielle Hampson died in an accident, a source revealed.

UpToBrain : Danielle Hampson Car Accident Death CCTV Footage Video and Images Leaked on Twitter, YouTube

There Is No Evidence Danielle Hampson Died In A Car Accident!

This is another example of FAKE NEWS that some websites create for more page views and money, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : Danielle Hampson’s Cause Of Death Was Never Revealed!

No one has publicly revealed Danielle Hampson’s cause of death. Not her fiancee, Tom Mann. Not her colleagues. Not even her own family.

That does not mean people get to make up stories, and claim that she died from COVID-19 vaccines, or a car accident.

When her family or her fiancee reveals how she died, we will know. Until then, don’t waste your time on websites and blogs that create celebrity fake news to get more traffic.

Fact #2 : CCTV Videos Of Danielle Hampson’s Car Accident Are Fake

A number of these websites created fake YouTube videos about Danielle Hampson’s car accident, claiming to be leaked CCTV footage.

None of them contain any CCTV footage. They only used edited screenshots from random car accidents as the video title screen to get you to click on the videos.

That’s because they are all monetising these fake videos on YouTube, which apparently have no problem with such fake videos. One website – UpToBrain – created at least four videos with screenshots from four different car accidents.

Take a look at just six of the many videos that claim to show Danielle Hampson’s car accident. So many different car accidents in different countries. Which is the real one? LOL

To be clear – there is no CCTV footage of any car accident involving Danielle Hampson.

Read more : Did Tom Mann’s Fiancee, Dani Hampson, Die From Vaccine?!

Fact #3 : None Of Them Offered Any Evidence

Even if we ignore the fact that Danielle Hampson’s family and fiancee never said publicly how she died, there is currently no evidence that she was killed in a car accident (or vaccines).

None of those websites claiming that she died in a car accident offered anything remotely close to “evidence”. Only one – Vimbuzz (which creates a ton of celebrity nonsense articles) – dared to claim that “a source” told them.

Despite extensive coverage by mainstream media, including People, the Guardian and The Daily Mail, they all continue to point out that her cause of death remains unknown.

Even TMZ, which managed to get Betty White’s autopsy report, has not been able to find out how Danielle Hampson died.

Now, it is plausible that she may have died in a car accident, but she could have easily died from a thousand other causes – from a stroke to a sudden cardiac arrest, which are arguably far more likely.

Until we know for certain – we cannot simply jump to conclusions… or fall for the fake news / fake videos created by people whose only motivation is to make money from your views and clicks.

Did PDRM Just Install CCTV Cameras At All Toll Booths?!

Did PDRM just install CCTV cameras at all toll booths to catch motorists committing traffic offences?!

Take a look at the viral claim, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : PDRM Just Installed CCTV Cameras At All Toll Booths!

People are sharing a WhatsApp voice message of a woman who claims that the PDRM just installed CCTV cameras at all toll booths to catch motorists committing crimes, so they can issue fines.

Tali pinggang keledar kalau pakai pun dia saman. Pakai handphone pun dia saman. So berjaga-jaga kat setiap tol. Sekarang ini memang PDRM cari duit uituk bagi kerajaan.

Here is my English translation of the original message.

There are now CCTV cameras at every toll booth. The police will issue summons to those who are seen using a holding or using a handphone. PDRM has installed cameras at every toll booth. So be careful when you are at the toll. They will issue you a summon if you don’t wear a seatbelt, or if you are using a handphone. So be careful at every toll booth. PDRM right now is looking to collect money for the government.

Some people are also sharing this version in Chinese :

各位朋友注意了,现在交警会在每一个TOLL闸门放摄像机。如果你驾车在过TOLL的时候打电话,玩手机,或者没有绑安全带,被摄像机拍到。恭喜你。SAMAN会寄过去你家

Truth : PDRM Did Not Install CCTV Cameras At Any Toll Booth!

This is another example of FAKE NEWS circulating on WhatsApp, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : Highway Operators Installed Those CCTVs

Highway operators like PLUS install CCTVs at their toll booths to monitor operations, and safety issues. As they explained in 2018 :

Our staff monitor the situation at all the toll booths from the camera recording just in case motorists need assistance at the toll lane.

Fact #2 : PLUS Denied The Claim

PLUS Expressways Berhad – the largest highway concessionaire in Malaysia confirmed in 2018 that PDRM is not using their CCTV cameras to catch traffic offenders :

The CCTVs are not being used to catch traffic offender.

The CCTV recordings may be shared with the PDRM in the cases of accidents, but otherwise, highway operators do not share them with the police.

Fact #3 : There Are CCTVs All Along Highways

CCTV cameras are not just installed at toll booths. They are actually installed at many points along highways in Malaysia.

PLUS, for example, installed 2,000 CCTV cameras along their highways. You can even view some of those CCTV feeds using the PLUS app!

Fact #4 : This Hoax Has Been Circulating Since 2017

This voice message started circulating in August 2017, and has been resurrected several times in the past few years. It was fake in 2017, and it remains fake today, in 2022.

Fact #5 : PDRM Can Catch You At Any Time

Police officers can catch traffic offenders at any time. They do not have to rely on toll booth cameras.

Even though this is a hoax, you should always wear a seatbelt, and you should never use your mobile phone while driving.

Fine For Scratching Nose A Wake-Up Call On AI Surveillance!

The recent case of a Chinese driver getting fine for scratching his face is a funny example of current AI surveillance technology. Yet it is also a wake-up call on the dangers of pervasive AI surveillance by the state.

Fined For Scratching Nose By AI Surveillance System!

A Jinan resident, Mr. Liu, was driving his car in the eastern Shandong province, when he raised his hand to touch his face. Most of us unconsciously do that 2 to 5 times per minute!

Unbeknownst to him, one of the many AI surveillance cameras in the city noticed his action, and issued him a fine of 50 yuan* and 2 demerit points for “driving while holding a phone“.

* Approximately $7.25 / £5.70 / €6.50 / RM 30

The Jinan AI surveillance system also sent him this screenshot of his traffic violation, as captured at 7:20 AM on 20 May 2019.

Just like many automated systems (looking at you, Facebook and Google!), there was no way to dispute the charge. Mr. Liu tried to sort out the situation over the phone, but “no one would help him“.

He only got justice by appealing to the court of public opinion on Sina Weibo, where his post went viral. Only then did the Jinan traffic police department take notice and investigate his complaint.

Two days later, they cancelled his ticket after confirming that he was only touching his face, and not actually using a phone while driving.

AI Surveillance In Chinese Cities

China has been working hard at developing smart cities, as part of their social engineering efforts to quell political dissent and encourage Chinese citizens to “behave properly”.

There are already over 170 million surveillance cameras across China, with a projected 400 million surveillance cameras installed by next year. And they are all controlled by AI surveillance systems.

Such extensive surveillance coverage has allowed the Chinese government to detect crimes and punish their citizens for them. It also feeds the new Social Credit System – a national reputation system that assess the economic and social reputation of every Chinese citizen and business.

However, such pervasive surveillance has led to serious privacy implications for the Chinese citizenry. Anyone who wants to understand the power, allure and dangers of AI surveillance should watch the TV series, Person of Interest.

The Dangers Of AI Surveillance

While AI surveillance technology is now quite incredible, this case has exposed its vulnerabilities and limitations.

  1. Human oversight is still necessary, because AI surveillance is not accurate enough to detect false positives.
  2. It may be tempting to make the AI surveillance system the judge, jury and executioner, but such systems need to implement the principle of “guilty beyond a reasonable doubt“, and that means ignoring anything that is not close to a 99.9% match.
  3. There should be an appeal system in place. It took a viral social media post to alert the Jinan traffic police department to the mistake.
  4. There is also the question of personal data security. Can the government securely store the data, without unsanctioned or illegal access? How long should they store the information before they are deleted?

Alibaba Cloud + The Malaysia City Brain

Alibaba Cloud is one of the chief architects of Chinese smart city initiative and AI surveillance capabilities with their ET City Brain that runs on their Tianchi Platform.

Last year, Alibaba Cloud announced their collaboration with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to introduce the Malaysia City Brain.

The first phase of the Malaysia City Brain will kickstart with 382 AI traffic cameras at 281 traffic light junctions in Kuala Lumpur.

Although the Malaysian government is ostensibly implementing the Malaysia City Brain to “optimise the flow of vehicles and timing of traffic signals“, it is really a short step to the Chinese model of population and crime surveillance.

Kaspersky Reveals Security Flaws In Hanwha Techwin Smart Cameras

Kaspersky Lab researchers discovered multiple security vulnerabilities in popular smart cameras made by Hanwha Techwin that are frequently used as baby monitors, or for internal home and office security surveillance.

According to their research, the uncovered flaws could allow attackers to obtain remote access to video and audio feeds from the cameras, remotely disable these devices, execute arbitrary malicious code on them and do many other things.

Security Holes In Hanwha Techwin Smart Cameras

Modern smart cameras contain an advanced number of functions, providing users with various opportunities: people can use them as advanced baby monitors or for surveillance systems which spot intruders while no one is home or in the office.

But, are these cameras secure enough by design and what if such a smart camera started watching you, instead of watching your home? Previous analysis conducted by many other security researchers has shown that smart cameras in general tend to contain security vulnerabilities at different levels of severity.

In their latest research, Kaspersky Lab experts uncovered something extraordinary: not just one, but a whole range of smart cameras was found to be vulnerable to a number of severe remote attacks. This was due to an insecurely designed cloud-backbone system that was initially created to enable the owners of these cameras to remotely access video from their devices.

By exploiting these vulnerabilities, malicious users could execute the following attacks:

  • Access video and audio feeds from any camera connected to the vulnerable cloud service;
  • Remotely gain root access to a camera and use it as an entry-point for further attacks on other devices on both local and external networks.
  • Remotely upload and execute arbitrary malicious code on the cameras;
  • Steal personal information such as users’ social network accounts and information which is used to send users notifications.
  • Remotely “brick” vulnerable cameras.

Following the discovery, Kaspersky Lab researchers contacted and reported the vulnerabilities to Hanwha Techwin, the manufacturer of the affected cameras. At the time of publication, some vulnerabilities had already been fixed, and the remaining vulnerabilities are set to be completely fixed soon, according to the manufacturer.

Thousands Of Hanwha Techwin Cameras Are Accessible Online

All these attacks were possible because experts found that the way the cameras interacted with the cloud service was insecure and open to relatively easy interference. They also found that the architecture of the cloud service itself was vulnerable to external interference.

\It is important to note that such attacks were only possible if attackers knew the serial number of the camera. However, the way in which serial numbers are generated is relatively easy to find out through simple brute-force attacks: the camera registering system didn’t have brute force protection.

[adrotate group=”2″]

While doing their research, Kaspersky Lab experts were able to identify almost 2,000 vulnerable cameras working online, but these were only the cameras that had their own IP address, hence were directly available through the internet. The real number of vulnerable devices placed behind routers and firewalls could actually be several times higher.

In addition, researchers found an undocumented functionality, which could be used by the manufacturer for final production test purposes. However, at the same time criminals could use this hidden avenue to send wrong signals to any camera or change a command already sent to it.

Besides that, the feature itself was found to be vulnerable. It could be further exploited with a buffer overflow, potentially leading to the camera’s shutdown. The vendor has now fixed the issue and removed this feature.

Hanwha Techwin Official Statement

The security of our customers is the highest priority for us. We have already fixed the camera’s vulnerabilities, including the Remote Upload and Execution of arbitrary malicious code. We have released updated firmware available to all our users. Some vulnerabilities related to the cloud have been recognized and will be fixed soon.

Kaspersky Lab’s Recommendations

In order to stay protected, Kaspersky Lab strongly advises users to do the following:

  • Always change the default password. Use a complex one instead and do not forget to update it regularly.
  • Pay close attention to security issues of connected devices before purchasing yet another smart device for homes or offices. Information on discovered and patched vulnerabilities is usually available online and is often easy to find.

Once the fearsome tool of a totalitarian state in George Orwell’s iconic novel – 1984, CCTV surveillance is not only ubiquitous, it is even considered essential. Forget Big Brother. Many modern homes and offices have CCTV systems for safety and security reasons.

The most common video surveillance systems are dedicated CCTV (closed-circuit television) systems. They combine video cameras with a display and a digital video recorder (DVR). Whether they are using good old analog video cameras, or the newer high-definition digital video cameras, all those video streams are written into hard disk drives.

Not Optimised For CCTV Recording

For many years, CCTV systems were built around hard disk drives used by desktop computers. While this worked, it was not an ideal situation because these desktop hard disk drives are :

  • NOT designed to withstand the harsher conditions inside a DVR.
  • NOT engineered to run 24/7 in an always-on condition
  • NOT optimised for the recording of multiple video streams

As a result, these desktop hard disk drives have a tendency to fail earlier. This not only means lost video surveillance footage, it also means a higher cost of ownership because these drives have to be replaced more frequently.

Even when they are working properly, the recorded video streams may suffer from quality problems like dropped frames or whole gaps in the video stream. After all, desktop hard disk drives lack support for ATA streaming that give proper surveillance hard disk drives the ability to record multiple video streams simultaneously.

Surveillance Hard Disk Drives

As we upgrade to high-definition digital video cameras, the quality problems with desktop-grade hard disk drives become more apparent. They drop even more frames because they are unable to keep up with the constant flow of high bit-rate video streams.

This negates the purpose of upgrading to high-definition cameras. What’s the point of recording high-resolution video if it means whole gaps in the video?

To counter that problem, as well as improve reliability in the high-temperature, always-on environment of the DVR, surveillance hard disk drives were developed. What do these drives offer?

  1. The ability to withstand the extreme heat fluctuations and vibration common in DVR enclosures.
  2. The ability to record the incoming video streams 24/7, without rest.
  3. The ability to record multiple video streams without dropped frames, or gaps in recorded footage.

How The Right Surveillance Storage Improves The System

When the first event music, “Video Killed the Radio Star” premiered on MTV in 1981, it started a video revolution. A lot has changed since then, but video’s relevance in our culture, has increased, and our lives and security have come to depend on it.

Market research firm IHS estimates that one surveillance camera has been installed for every eight people (about 40M) in the U.S. alone. Stats from 2014 certainly back that up – according to the IHS Video Surveillance Intelligence Service Market Insight report from August 2015, the U.S. was ranked as the second largest market for video surveillance equipment, worth $2.8 billion dollars.

[adrotate banner=”4″]

With our obsession over video and corresponding camera capabilities such as HD and 4K, it’s easy to miss an equally crucial component that can make or break the effectiveness of an entire surveillance system: storage. Unfortunately, many surveillance professionals are using the wrong drive.

Rather than being designed for continuous capture of HD or FHD video from multiple cameras, a drive that is not optimized for surveillance systems can drop frames, or even consume more power, generating more heat to create a major reliability issue. This could drastically reduce the life of a drive, adversely affecting the read and write operations in a surveillance system. These solution may cost the customer less upfront, but eventually could affect your business when performance, reliability and even your reputation.

The right surveillance storage solution offer high performance, efficiency and capacity that has been tested in harsh surveillance environments. But how to tell the difference?

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: What to Look For In Surveillance Storage

There are several specific things to look for when evaluating whether a drive has been designed with surveillance in mind:

  • Always on: A surveillance system works 24×7. If the storage drive hasn’t been designed for constant, never-ending read/write operations, it won’t be able to keep up.
  • Performance Reliability: Some drives, like WD’s Purple surveillance-class hard drive family, include special technology (called AllFrame in this case) that improves playback performance and works with ATA streaming to reduce errors and frame loss.

  • RAID-enabled: To increase peace-of-mind for your customer, you may also want to look for a drive with RAID or Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disk capabilities. A drive with this capability can use two or more hard disks to create a safety net for failed hardware by ensuring that the image is still being captured even if one drive isn’t working. This lessens interruptions in productivity and decreases the chance of data loss.
  • Low power consumption: While “low power consumption” might not be first on your list of things to look for in a hard drive, the need for always-on capability makes this crucial. Having a drive that calculates the optimum seek speeds won’t generate as much heat, even in passively-cooled storage enclosures, making it more reliable and friendlier to your customer’s wallet.
  • High camera count support: A high number of cameras, an NVR system or a longer retention period will require higher storage use and an even greater need to ensure you have chosen a drive that will meet the customer’s needs. Look for one with up to 6 TB of capacity on a single drive.
  • High system bay count support: The right drive will include hardware vibration sensors to enable higher drive-count systems as well as higher system and hard drive workloads.
  • Extensive compatibility with cameras: Needless to say, the drive you select needs to work with the cameras you are planning to install. One that works with most of the different cameras you could install will make it even easier to keep the right drive on-hand, regardless of your current installation scenario.
  • Rugged exterior: In some cases the drive may need to live, and perform continuously in harsh environments. In this case, you’ll want one with tarnish-resistant PCBA protection.
  • Easily upgradable: In an ideal world, your customer occasionally asks to upgrade or expand their existing surveillance system. A drive that scales with a system when the need to expand arises and makes your job easier.

Considering the importance of storage in surveillance systems, you may also find it helpful to use a capacity calculator to help determine how much storage is needed for the length of time data is to be maintained for a particular surveillance system. Vendors like WD offer calculators and drive selection tools to help find the right drive and capacity that best suits your needs.
