Why JPJ + PDRM 50% Discount Is A Scam!

Here are the reasons why this is yet another scam circulating on WhatsApp…

Fact #1 : There Is Currently No PDRM / JPJ Discount On Summons

First, let me just confirmed that there is currently no discount on PDRM or JPJ summons.

In the past, PDRM and JPJ offered PDRM + JPJ Traffic Offences : How To Get 80% Discount?, but that was long over – ending in December 2021.

If they actually introduced new discounts on summons, you can be certain that it would be announced on their official websites and social media accounts, and not spread by WhatsApp messages.

Fact #2 : PDRM Confirmed It’s Fake News

On 17 July 2022, PDRM confirmed that the viral WhatsApp message is fake. They are not offering any discount on summons.

PDRM secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the police are tracking down the individuals responsible for the fake advertisement, which offered up to 50 per cent discount on PDRM and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) summons.

Fact #3 : You Will Lose Money You Send These Scammers!

Needless to say – DO NOT send them money to pay your traffic summons at the “50% discount”.

Any money you send them will not go towards paying off your summons. It is a SCAM.

If you have money to spare, consider supporting my work here at Tech ARP instead.

Fact #4 : Checking JPJ + PDRM Summons Is FREE!

The scam does not just involve tricking you into sending them money. It also involves the RM 10 fee for checking your summonses.

Here is what you need to know – you can actually check your summonses for FREE!

So even if they don’t trick you into sending them the “discounted” fee for your summonses, they are still tricking you into paying them the RM 10 fee for doing something that is free.

Fact #5 : Viral Message Has Horrendous Grammar

An official announcement would not have such bad grammar. The scammer couldn’t even spell mahkamah (court) correctly!

If you see offers on WhatsApp or even social media (Facebook, Twitter) with bad grammar – they are probably scams.

Did Danielle Hampson Die In Car Accident On Wedding Day?!

Did Danielle Hampson die from a car accident on her wedding day with X Factor star, Tom Mann?!

Take a look at the viral claims, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : Danielle Hampson Died In Car Accident On Wedding Day!

A number of rumour / fake news websites have been capitalising on Danielle Hampson’s tragic death on the day of her wedding to X Factor star, Tom Mann.

They are claiming that she died from a car accident, and many even created videos that purportedly show the CCTV footage of the car accident that killed her. Here are a few examples.

Bareillyinfo / BareillyCollege : How did Danielle Hampson die? Cause of death explained

After the news came out everyone is intrigued to know the cause of her death. A car accident took the life of Danielle Hampson (confirmed).

The SportsGrail : Danielle Hampson Fiancee Of Singer Tom Mann Cause Of Death, Obituary, Car Accident, Age, Bio, Kid, Instagram

Everyone is curious to know the circumstances behind her passing once the news broke that Danielle Hampson died in a motor vehicle collision.

Danielle Hampson was killed in an [sic] car accident (confirmed).

WePublishNews : Danielle Hampson Dancer Car Accident: Cause Of Death, Funeral

Vimbuzz : Danielle Hampson Car Accident Photos And Videos

Daniella Hampson’s Car Accident on 18 June 2022, happened exactly on her wedding day. Danielle Hampson died in an accident, a source revealed.

UpToBrain : Danielle Hampson Car Accident Death CCTV Footage Video and Images Leaked on Twitter, YouTube

There Is No Evidence Danielle Hampson Died In A Car Accident!

This is another example of FAKE NEWS that some websites create for more page views and money, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : Danielle Hampson’s Cause Of Death Was Never Revealed!

No one has publicly revealed Danielle Hampson’s cause of death. Not her fiancee, Tom Mann. Not her colleagues. Not even her own family.

That does not mean people get to make up stories, and claim that she died from COVID-19 vaccines, or a car accident.

When her family or her fiancee reveals how she died, we will know. Until then, don’t waste your time on websites and blogs that create celebrity fake news to get more traffic.

Fact #2 : CCTV Videos Of Danielle Hampson’s Car Accident Are Fake

A number of these websites created fake YouTube videos about Danielle Hampson’s car accident, claiming to be leaked CCTV footage.

None of them contain any CCTV footage. They only used edited screenshots from random car accidents as the video title screen to get you to click on the videos.

That’s because they are all monetising these fake videos on YouTube, which apparently have no problem with such fake videos. One website – UpToBrain – created at least four videos with screenshots from four different car accidents.

Take a look at just six of the many videos that claim to show Danielle Hampson’s car accident. So many different car accidents in different countries. Which is the real one? LOL

To be clear – there is no CCTV footage of any car accident involving Danielle Hampson.

Read more : Did Tom Mann’s Fiancee, Dani Hampson, Die From Vaccine?!

Fact #3 : None Of Them Offered Any Evidence

Even if we ignore the fact that Danielle Hampson’s family and fiancee never said publicly how she died, there is currently no evidence that she was killed in a car accident (or vaccines).

None of those websites claiming that she died in a car accident offered anything remotely close to “evidence”. Only one – Vimbuzz (which creates a ton of celebrity nonsense articles) – dared to claim that “a source” told them.

Despite extensive coverage by mainstream media, including People, the Guardian and The Daily Mail, they all continue to point out that her cause of death remains unknown.

Even TMZ, which managed to get Betty White’s autopsy report, has not been able to find out how Danielle Hampson died.

Now, it is plausible that she may have died in a car accident, but she could have easily died from a thousand other causes – from a stroke to a sudden cardiac arrest, which are arguably far more likely.

Until we know for certain – we cannot simply jump to conclusions… or fall for the fake news / fake videos created by people whose only motivation is to make money from your views and clicks.

Please help us FIGHT FAKE NEWS by sharing this fact check article out, and please SUPPORT our work!

And please STOP supporting these fake news websites!

Where + How To Renew Driving Licence In Malaysia!

Find out where and how you to renew your driving licence in Malaysia!

Why You Need To Renew Your Driving Licence ASAP

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has discovered that hundreds of thousands of people are driving with expired licences.

They recently reminded motorists that the moratorium on expired driving licences will end on 30 June 2022.

Right now, those that JPJ caught were “only” been slapped with a fine. But after 30 June 2022, they will be issued with a summon and their licences may be revoked.

These are the four categories of expired licences that may be revoked, if they are not renewed in time :

  • Learner’s Driving Licence (LDL) : Up to 2 years
  • Probational Driving Licence (PDL) : More than 1 year
  • Competent Driving Licence (CDL) : More than 3 years
  • Public Service Vehicle / Goods Driving Licence (PSV / GDL) : More than 3 years

If your licence is revoked, you will need to undergo the full process to re-qualify and obtain a new licence.

Recommended : JPJ : Renew Driving Licence Or Retake Full Driving Test!

If you are caught driving without a valid licence, you will be fined based on how long your licence has expired.

How Long Your Licence Has Expired Delivery Fee

31-60 Days RM 300

But as noted earlier, if you do not renew your licence for more than 3 years, you will not only be fined, you will be required to take the driving exam again.

Even worse, you will have to submit an eRayuan letter to obtain a learner’s licence (LDL) which costs RM30, and after passing the exam, you be issued a probationary licence (PDL) for 2 years.

How To Check Your Licence Expiry Date In Malaysia

Did you know you can check your driving licence expiry date, even if you are overseas? Here is what you need to do :

Paul Pelosi : Real vs. Fake Arrest Mugshot Compared!

People have been sharing a mugshot of Paul Pelosi – US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband – who was arrested for DUI.

Take a look at the viral photo and find out what his real mugshot really looks like!

Claim : This Is The Paul Pelosi Arrest Mugshot

For many American conservatives, the story of Paul Pelosi getting arrested for DUI has not gotten enough media attention. So they have resorted to claiming that he was also arrested for possessing child porn and drugs, or that Nancy Pelosi was with the real culprit, and Paul was covering for her.

More recently, they shared a photo, claiming that it was of Paul Pelosi, with a blackened eye.

Paul Pelosi’s mug shot. Looks like he got a shinner…. #PaulPelosi #PaulPelosiMugShot #MugShots #NancyPelosi

Paul Pelosi’s mug shot. Don’t stop passing this around before it is banned…

The police refused to release it but his mugshot got leaked.

Paul Pelosi : Real vs. Fake Arrest Mugshot Compared!

This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS that American conservatives are creating to smear politicians across the aisle.

Fact #1 : That Mugshot Was Photo Edited

The Paul Pelosi mugshot that went viral was digitally altered from a photo taken at the Pre-Grammy Gala, taken by Kevork Djansezian on February 14, 2016.

Here is a comparison of the crop of that Pre-Grammy Gala photo (on the left), and the edited photo on the right.

You can see that many parts of the face are similar – ears, nose, mouth, left eye, both eyebrows, and even the wrinkles on his face.

The person who altered the photo made him look heavier, added hair from a different person, as well as a blackened right eye.

Fact #2 : His Real Mugshot Was Released

Perhaps as a response to the fake mugshot being shared online, Paul Pelosi’s real mugshot was released by the Napa County Department of corrections, with this statement :

Napa County Department of Corrections Releases Paul Pelosi Mugshot

(NAPA, California) — On the night of May 28, 2022, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrested Paul Pelosi (DOB 4/15/40) for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Driving with a .08% Blood Alcohol Content or Higher. He was booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections and subsequently cite released the following morning.

In Napa County, the decision to release or withhold mugshots or booking photos lies with the Napa County Department of Corrections, not the District Attorney’s Office. In the days after Mr. Pelosi’s arrest, Napa County followed the Department of Corrections’ policy regarding the release of booking photos and mugshots. Mr. Pelosi received the same treatment under that policy that all individuals released from County Jail receive.

No state law specifically requires the release of booking photos or mugshots, but policies regarding this topic can vary by jurisdiction. Napa County updated its policy to reflect current best practices and align with the policies of similar jurisdictions. As such, Napa County is now making available to the media and the public the booking photo of Mr. Pelosi taken at approximately 4:30 a.m. on May 29, 2022, at Napa County Department of Corrections.

This comparison shows you his real mugshot (on the left), and the fake mugshot (on the right).

As you can see, Paul Pelosi did not suffer any facial injuries from his crash.

Fact #3 : Paul Pelosi Was Arrested For DUI

Paul Pelosi was driving home from a dinner party at around 10:15 PM on Saturday night, when he attempted to cross a State Route 29 intersection at Walnut Lane in the Napa County.

His 2021 Porsche was hit by a 48 year-old Jeep driver, Jesus Lopez. Fortunately, neither men were hurt seriously, although both cars were written off in the crash.

After the accident, Paul was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.08%, and arrested on “suspicion of DUI”.

Fact #4 : He Faces Two Misdemeanour Charges

Paul Pelosi’s bail was set at $5,000 for two counts of misdemeanour :

  • driving under the influence
  • driving with a blood alcohol content level of 0.08 or higher

He is scheduled to appear in court on August 3, 2022; although Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley said that she has not decided whether to bring charges.

This is standard protocol for any DUI case that is referred by a law enforcement agency in Napa County.

No decision has been made at this time. Any speculation to the contrary is incorrect.

When a filing decision is made by the Napa County District Attorney, the media and public will be notified.

Fact #5 : A Young Lady Was Not Involved

The claims that Paul Pelosi was with a (very) young lady are also false.

This was confirmed by the accident report, which only shows two drivers involved. There were no passengers in both cars.

Fact #6 : Nancy Pelosi Was Not Involved

To be clear, there were only two people involved in the accident – Paul Pelosi and Jesus Lopez.

Claim that US Speaker Nancy Pelosi was the real driver, but her husband covered for her are false. This was confirmed by her spokesperson, who stated :

The Speaker will not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast.

She could not be with her husband as she was in the East Coast to deliver a commencement address to the 2022 graduates and receive an honorary doctorate degree at Brown University in Rhode Island, on Monday, 30 May 2022.

JPJ : Renew Driving Licence Or Retake Full Driving Test!

If your driving licence has expired, you need to renew it ASAP, or you will be forced to retake the full driving test!

Here is what you need to know…

JPJ : Renew Driving Licence Or Retake Full Driving Test!

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is warning that the moratorium on expired driving licences will end on 30 June 2022.

The moratorium actually ended on 31 December 2021, but many drivers were under the impression that the moratorium was still in effect.

After checking their records and conducting operations across the country, JPJ found that hundreds of thousands of drivers have yet to renew their expired licence.

Thus, they are reminding those with expired licences to renew them before the end of the month.

Recommended : Please DO NOT Walk-In To Renew Your Malaysian Passport!

JPJ Fine For Driving Without A Valid Licence

If you are caught driving without a valid licence, you will be fined based on how long your licence has expired.

How Long Your Licence Has Expired Fine
1-15 Days RM 150
16-30 Days RM 200
31-60 Days RM 300

But as noted earlier, if you do not renew your licence for more than 3 years, you will not only be fined, you will be required to take the driving exam again.

Even worse, you will have to submit an eRayuan letter to obtain a learner’s licence (LDL) which costs RM30, and after passing the exam, you will need be issued a probationary licence (PDL) for 2 years.

How To Check Your Licence Expiry Date

Did you know you can check your driving licence expiry date, even if you are overseas? Here is what you need to do :

  1. Go to the official JPJ Licence Expiry Date enquiry page.
  2. Select your identification type
    – Temporary Resident (MYKAS)
    – Permanent Resident (PTM)
    – Malaysian Public (MYKAD)
    – Police (POL)
    – Military (TEN)
    – Non Malaysia (LLN)
  3. Key in your Identification Number (without dash)
  4. Key in the CAPTCHA security code – the 4-digit number in the image.
  5. Click Search.

You should get a report like this, which shows you when your driving licence was last renewed, and when it will expire.

JPJ : Where To Renew Driving Licence

The four licence types can be renewed at all JPJ state and branch offices, as well as JPJ offices in Urban Transformation Centres (UTC).

However, those with a learner’s licence (LDL) can also renew it in any Pos Malaysia branch; while those with a regular licence (CDL) can also renew it at Pos Malaysia or MyEG.

Please don’t wait until the last minute, as there will inevitably be a rush of people trying to do just that. And the police and JPJ will, no doubt, be conducting more traffic stops and roadblocks to look for people with expired licences and road tax.

Here is a summary of the four licence types, and where you can renew them :

JPJ Licence Type Expiry Where To Renew
Learner’s Driving Licence (LDL) Up to 2 years JPJ
Pos Malaysia
Probational Driving Licence (PDL) Over 1 Year JPJ
Competent Driving Licence (CDL) Over 3 Years JPJ

Was Paul Pelosi Arrested For Child Porn + Cocaine?!

Was Paul Pelosi – US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband – just arrested for child porn and crack cocaine?!

Take a look at the viral claim, and find out what the facts really are!

Updated @ 2022-06-10 : Added Napa County DA’s announcement on charges.

Claim : Paul Pelosi Was Arrested For Child Porn + Cocaine!

Within hours of the news breaking that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, was arrested in California, Vancouver Times posted a story that claimed he was found to also be in possession of child porn and crack cocaine!

They later updated their story to also claim that Nancy Pelosi would also face charges, and that she was tied to international sex trafficking rings.

Paul Pelosi is in serious trouble and could face many years in prison.

Paul Pelosi, the 82-year-old husband of U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, was re-arrested this weekend for possession of child pornography and crack cocaine. The MSM reported on the first arrest, but not the second arrest.

Sources indicate Pelosi paid off the prosecutor’s office to keep the second arrest “off-the-books.”

Paul Pelosi was first arrested late Saturday in Napa County north of San Francisco, according to a sheriff’s office online booking report.

He was caught driving with a blood alcohol content level of 0.08 or higher, the report said.

Pelosi was originally released on bail, but was re-arrested after police found child pornography on his phone, as well as crack cocaine and pipes in his car. The child porn and drugs were not found during the initial search.

California Highway Patrol Officer and the FBI stated the investigation is ongoing and both Pelosi and his wife Nancy could be facing more charges. There has long been speculation the Pelosi’s are tied to international sex trafficking rings.

Pelosi’s arrest was first reported by TMZ.

Truth : Paul Pelosi Was Not Arrested For Child Porn Or Cocaine…

This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS created to generate page views and money from gullible people.

Fact #1 : Vancouver Times Is A Fake News Website

Vancouver Times is a “content aggregator” (copy and paste) website that is known for creating fake news to generate more page views and money.

To look legitimate, they copy and paste news from legitimate news organisations. To drive traffic, they create fake news, sometimes masked as “satire”.

To give themselves a veneer of deniability, they label themselves as a “satire website” in their About Us section.

Vancouver Times is the most trusted source for satire on the West Coast. We write satirical stories about issues that affect conservatives.

We are not affiliated with the mainstream media (CBC, CTV etc.) in any way, and any similarities between our content and the work of the MSM is purely coincidental.

Fact #2 : They Relabel Fake Stories As Satire

The Satire section in Vancouver Times appears to be a place where their fake stories go to “die”.

It looks like their SOP is to post fake stories as genuine news, to trick people and go viral. They will then shift their fake stories to the Satire section after getting fact checked.

They first posted this fake story about Paul Pelosi under their America section, only moving it to their Satire section after I fact checked it.

Here are some of the fake news that they created recently, that we debunked :

Fact #3 : Paul Pelosi Was Arrested For DUI

Paul Pelosi was driving home from a dinner party at around 10:15 PM on Saturday night, when his 2021 Porsche was hit by a 48 year-old Jeep driver on Walnut Lane in the Napa County while he was trying to cross a State Route 29 intersection.

After the accident, Paul was arrested on “suspicion of DUI”.  He was not arrested for possession of child porn or crack cocaine.

Vancouver Times created that fake claim that the police found child pornography and crack cocaine to drive traffic to their website.

Fact #4 : He Was Granted Bail Within Hours

Paul Pelosi was granted bail within hours, which would not be possible if he was really found to possess child pornography and crack cocaine, as Vancouver Times falsely claimed.

According to Napa County records, this was what happened :

  • 11:44 PM, May 28 : Paul Pelosi was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
  • 4:13 AM, May 29 : Paul Pelosi was booked into jail
  • 7:26 AM, May 29 : Paul Pelosi was released at 7:26 on bail

Fact #5 : He Faces Two Misdemeanour Charges

Paul Pelosi’s bail was set at $5,000 for two counts of misdemeanour :

  • driving under the influence
  • driving with a blood alcohol content level of 0.08 or higher

As the police booking record shows, there was NO MENTION of child porn or crack cocaine – the possession of which are felonies, not misdemeanours.

Vancouver Times made up those claims, to drive traffic to their fake news article.

Fact #6 : Nancy Pelosi Was Not Involved

US Speaker Nancy Pelosi was not with her husband during the incident, it is nonsensical for Vancouver Times to claim that she could be facing charges herself.

Fact #7 : Nancy Pelosi Was Not Tied To Sex Trafficking Rings

Nancy Pelosi was never tied to sex trafficking rings.

That is part of QAnon conspiracy theories about Democrat sex trafficking rings that have been repeatedly debunked.

Fact #8 : Napa County DA Reviewing DUI Charges

On Thursday, June 9, 2022, Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley announced that the Napa County DA’s Office was reviewing the DUI charges.

Haley also said that Paul Pelosi agreed to a court date for early August, although no decision has been made at this time (to charge him for DUI).

If it’s not obvious by now, Paul Pelosi was never arrested and will not be charged for possession of child porn or crack cocaine.

Everything that Vancouver Times publishes should be regarded as FAKE NEWS, until proven otherwise.

Jin Yut Lew : Was US Chef Attacked For Being Chinese?!

Was an American chef – Jin Yut Lew – brutally beaten and left for dead, simply because he was a Chinese man?!

Take a look at the viral claim, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : Chef Jin Yut Lew Was Attacked For Being Chinese!

People are sharing a link to an article about Jin Yut Lew – a 61 year-old chef and father – who was brutally beaten and left for dead in Chicago, USA.

It’s accompanied by this message that laid the blame on US President Joe Biden for fomenting hatred against the Chinese.

Another heinous hate attack targeting a 61 year-old Chinese father near Chicago’s Chinatown.

Jin Yut Lew, a 61-year-old Chinese father, was carjacked, robbed, brutally beaten and “left for dead” near Chinatown in Chicago.

God D**n Joe Biden, his China-bashing, Chinese-Demonization.

We Chinese in America are unprotected. We are on our own. The homeland view us as foreigners and not Chinese enough.

We need to mobilize and organize our own armed militia in America.

Truth : Chef Jin Yut Lew Was NOT Attacked For Being Chinese!

I will share with you the facts of his case, and show you why this tragedy is being misused by the Chinese 50 Cent Army (wumao, 五毛) to spread discord.

Fact #1 : Mr. Lew Was Severely Beaten

Mr. Lew left his son’s house in the South Loop at around 11 PM on Wednesday, 6 April 2022. When he did not show up for a scheduled meeting, his friend informed his sons.

According to the Chicago Journal, Mr. Lew was found by a street cleaner at around 7 AM on 7 April 2022 near the intersection of W. 25th Place and S. Stewart Avenue in Chinatown.

He had no belongings or identification, and was unconscious. The police were called, and an ambulance took him to Stroger Hospital as an unidentified “John Doe”.

After not being able to reach him for 24 hours, his family filed a missing person’s report on early Friday morning, 8 April 2022.

Thanks to a tip on Facebook, they eventually found him hospitalised at Stroger Hospital the same day. He was in a critical condition after undergoing an emergency decompressive craniectomy, and remained in a coma.

Fact #2 : Mr. Lew Was Carjacked

Mr. Lew was carjacked and robbed, and during that incident, he was repeatedly struck on his head and face with a blunt object.

His missing 2008 Lexus SUV was later spotted by a camera in the Austin neighbourhood in west Chicago on the evening of 8 April 2022.

The next day, the family was informed by the insurance company that the Lexus SUV was recovered by the Chicago Police Department.

Fact #3 : No Evidence Of Hate Crime

While the severity of his attack was shocking, there is simply no evidence of a hate crime.

Mr. Lew wasn’t targeted simply because he was a Chinese man. He was targeted because he drove a car.

Mr. Lew was also found unconscious in Chinatown, which makes it even more unlikely that it is a hate crime.

Fact #4 : Carjacking Is On The Rise In Chicago

Carjacking has been a great concern in Chicago, as the family pointed out to the Chicago Journal :

In Chicago especially, the Chinese community has been living in fear of carjacking crimes but this is getting out of hand. Taking personal property is one thing, now they are being progressively more violent toward victims.

This needs to stop. City leaders need to do something about it and find and punish those responsible.

According to the Chicago Police Department, theft of motor vehicles in 2022 have gone up 43% over 2021, and up 63% over 2020.

Fact #5 : Biden Did Not Bash China

US President Joe Biden is most definitely not a China basher. The fake news writer either confused him with former President Donald Trump, or is intentionally and falsely laying the blame on Joe Biden.

It was former President Donald Trump who repeatedly called COVID-19 the “China virus”, and claimed that China was responsible for the pandemic. It was his administration that also sanctioned HUAWEI, TikTok and WeChat amongst other things.

Biden, on the other hand, has not bashed China or demonised the Chinese. After all, Chinese Americans are predominantly Democrats, with far more representation in the Democratic Party, than the Republican Party.

So I have to wonder – why would this writer falsely claim that he did?

Fact #6 : Chinese Americans Do Not Consider China Homeland

No Chinese American would ever call China their “homeland”. Or falsely bemoan that their “homeland” view them as “foreigners” and “not Chinese enough”.

This is something that only a member of the Chinese 50 Cent Army (wumao, 五毛) would write, because only they would consider China their “homeland“, and only they would look down on the American Chinese as “foreigners” and “not Chinese enough“.

In fact, this reminds me of an October 18, 2021 incident where two Chinese citizens stormed out of a Los Angeles restaurant without paying, after Chinese Americans stood up to sing the American national anthem.

Chinese people singing the American national anthem is so infuriating! We won’t pay this bill.

Mr. Lew immigrated to the United States in the early 1980s, and is most certainly a naturalised US citizen. He would no doubt consider the United States his country, not China.

Please beware of FAKE NEWS being created and propagated by the Chinese 50 Cent Army (wumao, 五毛).

And please help me fight fake news, by sharing this fact check with your family and friends!

Are Robbers Using Business Card Knife To Rob Drivers?!

Are robbers using a business card knife to attack and rob drivers?

Take a look at the viral claim, and find out what the FACTS really are!

Claim : Robbers Are Using Business Card Knife To Rob Drivers!

People are anxiously sharing a set of photos, together with these messages in English and Malay, on Facebook and WhatsApp :

Just now, according to info received from a traffic police friend, there are already six card owners made police reports, if there is someone holding a name card and knock at your car window asking for direction.

Please do not open your car windows, as there is a cutter placed under the name card which is used for slashing victim’s face and rob.

Please be extra careful! Kindly convey this message! Please also send to those who are not driving too, for the sake of their friends who are driving!

Truth : Robbers Are NOT Using Business Card Knife To Rob Drivers!

The truth is – this is FAKE NEWS that has been circulating since 2014.

It resurfaces every year or so, and here are the reasons why it remains fake news!

Fact #1 : Business Card Knife Don’t Look Like Actual Name Card

Despite its name, the business card knife does NOT look anything like a business card or name card.

It’s much thicker and usually black in colour, and looks like a business card holder than an actual name card.

The more bespoke models are thin enough to fit into the credit card slot of your wallet, which usually fits 2-3 credit cards.

But NO ONE will be foolish enough to believe that such a device is an actual name card…

Fact #2 : Business Card Knife Unfolds Like Origami

The business card knife is designed as an emergency pocket knife that fits the credit card slot of your wallet, so quick deployment is not the purpose.

It does not work like a switchblade, but literally unfolds like origami – this looks impressive but is not easy to do quickly.

It would therefore be pretty idiotic for any robber to use a business card knife. It makes far more (criminal) sense to use a real name card / map, and a real knife hidden out of sight!

Some people claim that the robber could have stuck a real name card on top. But in reality, it would prevent the knife from unfolding properly.

Fact #3 : Injury Photos Unrelated To Car Robbery

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) confirmed that the photo of an injured lady was “from a different robbery incident“, and unrelated to this viral claim of a car robbery involving a business card knife.

The injured man is London Rene, a US reality star who appeared in the WH1 series – Mob Wives.

He was slashed with a box cutter at Club Output in the Brooklyn neighbourhood of Williamsburg in December 2014, requiring 120 stitches on his face and 30 stitches each on his stomach and arm.

Obviously, his injuries had NOTHING to do with any car robbery attempt. Neither were they a result of a business card knife.

Now that you know the truth, please SHARE this fact check with your family and friends.

We need to stop the spread of this fake news which has been circulating since 2014!

  • vehicles registered on or after 1 January 1995, but lack rear anchorage points
  • vehicles that seat more than 8 passengers (not including driver)
  • good vehicles with carrying load of more than 3.5 tonnes

Fact #3 : Seat Belt Fine Is Way More Than RM300

Any driver or passengers, whether seated in the front or rear, caught not wearing a seat belt will be subject to :

  • a fine of up to RM 2,000, and / or
  • a prison sentence of up to 1 year

Fact #4 : RM300 Seat Belt Fine “Offer” Ended In 2009

The RM300 seat belt fine was actually a discounted offer for a 6-month introductory period when the seat belt law came into effect.

From 1 January until 30 June 2009 – the police and JPJ only issued a reduced RM300 fine to those who did not wear a seat belt.

That “introductory fine” had long expired, so drivers are now subject to the much higher penalties.

All Petrol Stations Are Go To Safety Points, Not Just Shell!

Did you know that all petrol stations in Malaysia are Go To Safety Points, not just Shell petrol stations?

Here is what you need to know about the Go To Safety Point (GTSP) initiative!

Claim : All Shell Petrol Stations Are Go To Safety Points (GTSPs)

This message has gone viral on WhatsApp, telling people to go to Shell petrol stations, as they are Go To Safety Points (GTSPs).

GTSP – Go To Safety Point

Not many know that all Shell stations are GTSPs. This means it is a haven to provide help. Make sure your loved ones know and make sure they head straight to a Shell station in any emergency.

Pass the word around!

Truth : All Petrol Stations Are Go To Safety Points (GTSPs)

The viral message is correct, but only partially true, and therefore, not very helpful.

The truth is – ALL petrol stations in Malaysia are Go To Safety Points (GTSPs). Here are the facts…

Fact #1 : Go To Safety Point (GTSP) Started In 2013

The viral message started circulating in January 2022, but the truth is – the Go To Safety Point initiative started way back in March 2013.

Fact #2 : GTSP Started With 7-Eleven And Pos Malaysia!

The PDRM Go To Safety Point (GTSP) initiative actually started with seven 7-Eleven and two Pos Malaysia outlets in the Bukit Bintang area in Kuala Lumpur.

Fact #3 : All Petrol Stations Are Now Go To Safety Points

The GTSP program then rolled out to petrol stations, as they are convenient public locations where people can seek help.

Today, all petrol stations in Malaysia are Go To Safety Points (GTSPs), not just Shell stations.

Fact #4 : Shell Was Not First, Last Or Most Extensive

It is unknown why the viral message only mentioned Shell – they were not the first or the latest to participate in the GTSP program. Neither do they have the most extensive network.

Petron was the first company to participate, starting with just 96 stations but later expanding to 560 petrol stations.

By July 2014, over 940 Shell petrol stations were trained and qualified under the GTSP program. BH Petrol was next with some 230 petrol stations qualified by 2015.

Petronas has the most extensive GTSP network, with over 1000 of their petrol stations qualified by June 2016.

Fact #5 : All Petrol Stations Offer Same Assistance

The Go To Safety Point assistance that Shell petrol stations provide are not unique either.

All petrol stations trained under the Go To Safety Point (GTSP) program offer the SAME assistance :

  1. Provide immediate first aid or help
  2. Contact the police or relevant authorities
  3. Call for an ambulance if required
  4. Provide a place for victims to rest while they wait
  5. Accompany the victim and provide comfort until the police / ambulance arrives

So there is really no need to look specifically for a Shell petrol station. ALL petrol stations in Malaysia will render the same aid.

Now that you are aware of these facts, and the Go To Safety Point initiative, please SHARE this article with your family and friends!

Shah Alam Toll Plaza : Still CLOSED After Flash Flood!

The Shah Alam toll plaza on the PLUS Highway remains closed, as PDRM + Bomba helped to rescue 226 victims!

Here is what you need to know…

Shah Alam Toll Plaza : Still CLOSED After Flash Flood!

At around 2 PM on 18 December 2021, a flash flood forced the PLUS Highway management to completely shut down the Shah Alam Toll Plaza and Interchange.

They also activated mandatory exits at the Subang and Seafield toll plazas to divert southbound and northbound traffic from the flooded Shah Alam toll plaza and interchange.

In addition, PLUS Highway also closed the entry lane at Bukit Raja, as well as the Setia Alam ramp to Shah Alam.

Motorists who are trapped between Setia Alam to Shah Alam, and between Subang to Shah Alam / ELITE Highway, were required to make an emergency U-turn via a temporary access that PLUS created.

19 December 2021 Update

By 7 AM, PDRM and Bomba rescuers located and transferred 226 victims who were trapped by the flash flood to other parts of the PLUS highway.

At 5:40 PM, PLUS Highway announced that the Shah Alam toll plaza will remain closed, and motorists would continue to be redirected to the Subang and Seafield toll plazas.

If you are planning to travel to, or from Shah Alam, using the PLUS Highway, you should seek an alternative route; or postpone your trip.

PLUS Highway will reopen the Shah Alam toll plaza once they confirmed it’s safe to do so.

Flash Flood Risk To Persist Until 19 December 2021

The Malaysia Meteorological Department warned that the severe rainstorm will persist at least until 19 December 2021 :

  • Dangerous (until 18 December 2021) : Selangor, Kuala Lumpur
  • Severe (until 19 December 2021) : Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan

TNG RFID Will Finally Be Operational On PLUS Highway!

After almost 2 years of delay, TNG RFID will finally be operational on the PLUS Highway from 15 January 2022 onwards!

Here is what you need to know…

TNG RFID @ PLUS Highway : Originally Scheduled For April 2020!

TNG RFID is an electronic payment system that uses an RFID (radio-frequency identification) tag that is affixed to the vehicle’s windscreen or headlamp, and linked to the user’s Touch ‘n Go eWallet account.

The TNG RFID Tag is linked to the user’s Touch ‘n Go eWallet account, and whenever your vehicle approaches a toll, an overhead scanner its encrypted code and automatically deducts the fare, allowing you to pass without stopping.

This system was originally meant to be implemented on the PLUS highway in April 2020, but was repeatedly delayed until now…

TNG RFID Will Finally Be Operational On PLUS Highway!

On 16 December 2021, the Malaysia Ministry of Works (KKR) announced that the TNG RFID system will be activated from 15 January 2022 onwards for Class 1 light vehicles from the Juru toll in Penang to the Skudai toll in Johor Bahru.

This is part of the Ministry’s Intelligent Transport System (ITS) blueprint, which includes the Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll system.

With the RFID system enabled, motorists will be able to pass through RFID tolls at up to 30 km/h, with the convenience of automatic top-ups.

Don’t worry if you don’t have your RFID tag yet. PLUS highway tolls will still support Touch ‘n Go cards and SmartTAG. Support for these legacy payment methods will be gradually reduced to allow for more RFID lanes.

You can purchase the TNG RFID tags for RM 35 at these two official online stores :

Please buy only from the two official TNG RFID online stores above. We do NOT recommend buying from third-party stores, because they may not be authentic.

PDRM + JPJ Traffic Offences : How To Get 80% Discount?

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) just announced the latest details of their 4-day traffic offence discount programme!

Now you can actually skip the queue, and pay for your traffic offences with up to 80% discount online!

Discount For Traffic Offences : What Was Announced Earlier

It was announced earlier that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) would be offering massive discounts on traffic offences over four days at the KL Convention Centre (KLCC).

  • 80% discount for traffic summonses within Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya
  • 70% discount for traffic summonses outside Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya

That immediately led to criticism that the tiered discounts is discriminatory. A common refrain -why are people in KL and Putrajaya getting more discount than those from other states?

They also announced that these discounts would only be valid at the KLCC payment counters. That was roundly criticised as it would mean people gathering and queuing for hours – a big risk during the COVID-19 pandemic.

PDRM + JPJ Traffic Offences : How To Get 80% Discount?

Just before the offer kicked off, PDRM and JPJ issued press releases (JPJ) making changes to the traffic offence discount programme :

Discount Now Up To 80%

PDRM and JPJ announced that they will offer up to 80% discount on traffic summonses, with a minimum of RM30.

There is no longer any reference to a 70% discount for traffic summonses outside KL and Putrajaya.

Discount Programme Runs For 4 Days

The PDRM and JPJ traffic summons discount programme will run for 4 days – from 9 until 12 December 2021.

You Don’t Have To Pay At KLCC!

PDRM will now allow you to pay for your compound at multiple venues, and even online!

  • PDRM Payment Counters @ KLCC
  • Summon Payment Counters at Police District Headquarters
  • Summon Payment Counters at Police Contingent Headquarters
  • MyBAYAR Saman online portal or app

JPJ will similarly allow you to pay for your compound at multiple venues, and even online!

Discounts Do NOT Apply To All Traffic Offences

The discounts being offered do NOT apply to all traffic offences. Here is a list of traffic offences that will not be reduced under this programme :

  • Causing accidents
  • Overtaking another vehicle dangerously
  • Driving on the emergency lane
  • Not obeying traffic lights
  • Overtaking across double lines
  • Non-compoundable offences
  • Offences involving heavy vehicles
  • Modification of vehicle exhausts
  • Cases registered at the courts
  • Arrest warrants that have not resulted in Discharge Not Amounting To Acquittal (DNAA)

PDRM + JPJ Advised Public To Pay Compounds Online!

Instead of requiring people to queue up at the KL Convention Centre, PDRM and JPJ now advise the public to pay their compounds online instead.

They also called on those who wish to pay their compounds physically, to obey COVID-19 precautions and SOP.

How To Pay PDRM / JPJ Traffic Offences Online?

PDRM

Instead of queuing up at the police headquarters, you should use the online MyBayar Saman portal or app :

The PDRM launched MyBayar Saman as an alternative payment option, instead of paying over-the-counter, or using private collecting agents like MyEG.

Singapore + Malaysia VTL Dry Run @ Johor Causeway!

A new Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) could soon be opened between Singapore and Malaysia across the Johor Causeway!

Singapore + Malaysia VTL : What Is It?

On 8 November 2021, Singapore and Malaysia agreed to launch a Vaccinated Travel Lane that would kick off on 29 November 2021.

The Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) programme allows fully-vaccinated travellers avoid the mandatory quarantine on arrival in Singapore or Malaysia.

However, this VTL is currently limited to specific VTL flights between Changi Airport and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Singapore + Malaysia VTL Dry Run @ Johor Causeway!

The good news is that it looks like Singapore and Malaysia are close to launching a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) programme for the Johor Causeway as well.

On 23 November 2021, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, released three photos showing Singapore and Malaysia officials conducting a dry run for a proposed Vaccinated Travel Lane through the Johor Causeway.

Such a VTL programme across the Johor Causeway would be highly beneficial, as travel costs are much lower.

Why You Should NEVER Wear Gloves At Gas / Petrol Station!

People are so worried about the Delta variant that they are wearing gloves at the gas / petrol station.

Find out why you should NEVER wear gloves at the gas / petrol station!

Why Are People Wearing Gloves At Gas / Petrol Station?

When the COVID-19 pandemic first started, gas / petrol pumps were identified as a potential source of COVID-19 spread.

Hence, gas / petrol stations were advised to constantly wipe clean the buttons and handles of the consoles and pumps.

But people only started wearing gloves in earnest, when the highly-transmissible Delta variant caused massive surges all over the world.

Read more : Is Delta Variant Spreading Through Gas / Petrol Pumps?

Why You Should NEVER Wear Gloves At Gas / Petrol Station!

The fear driving the use of gloves at gas / petrol stations is fuelled by viral messages that the Delta variant spreads through the pump handles.

Not only is that fake news, the very act of wearing gloves while using the gas / petrol pump is actually DANGEROUS, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 :  Delta Variant More Transmissible Through Air

Currently, Delta variant has been shown to be more transmissible by air – within seconds of a close contact.

However, there is no evidence so far that it is more transmissible by touching a contaminated object.

Read more : Delta Variant Can Infect In Seconds : How To Prevent That?

Fact #2 :  It Is Dangerous To Wear Gloves At Gas / Petrol Station!

No matter what social media tells you – you should NEVER wear gloves at a gas / petrol station.

Plastic gloves like what you see in these pictures generate static electricity, and may spark a fire when you refill your car!

Instead of protecting you from COVID-19, you may end up sparking a dangerous fire while refuelling your vehicle!

Fact #3 :  Latex / Nitrile Gloves May Not Protect You

Some automotive experts are recommending that motorists opt for latex or nitrile gloves, because they will not generate static electricity like plastic gloves.

That is bad advice.

Yes, latex and nitrile gloves will protect your hands from touching contaminated surfaces. But many people actually contaminate themselves while removing their gloves.

Unless you are a healthcare worker who is familiar on how to properly wear and remove rubber / nitrile gloves without contaminating yourself, you should not wear them.

But if you absolutely must wear them, it is best to sanitise the gloves before you remove them. And make sure you sanitise your hands right after removing your gloves

Fact #4 :  COVID-19 Spreads Through People

The SARS-CoV-2 virus spreads through droplets and aerosols from infected people. It does not spread by touch.

Hence, the best policy for gas / petrol stations is to insist that EVERYONE must wear a face mask.

This prevents direct transmission by droplets, and greatly cuts down on aerosols. And best of all – it prevents the gas / petrol pump surfaces from being contaminated!

If everyone wears a face mask, fomites – contaminated surfaces or objects – will be virtually non-existent.

Fact #5 :  You Can’t Get Contaminated If You Sanitise Your Hands!

Instead of worrying so much about getting your hands contaminated with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, just sanitise them!

If you are super worried, spread alcohol-based hand sanitiser onto the buttons and handle of the gas / petrol pump.

But the key thing is to either wash your hands with soap and water after using the pump, or sanitise them using hand sanitiser (with at least 60% alcohol).

You can’t get COVID-19 from contaminated surfaces if you always keep your hands clean!

This isn’t just my advice, this is what the US CDC recommends too!

Fully Vaccinated Can Travel At Full Vehicle Capacity!

Fully-vaccinated people can now travel at full vehicle capacity across Malaysia, even in PPN Phase 1 areas!

Here is what you need to know!

Earlier : Full Vehicle Capacity For Fully Vaccinated In Phase 2+ Areas

On 16 August 2021, MKN released a new SOP for Phase 2, which included a new benefit for fully-vaccinated people in Phase 2 (or higher) areas – they can now travel at FULL vehicle capacity!

This is a huge advantage over the 3 August 2021 SOP, which only allowed TWO (2) persons from each household to leave in the same vehicle to purchase food and other essentials.

Now : Fully Vaccinated Can Travel At Full Vehicle Capacity Across Malaysia!

On 20 August 2021, MKN released a new SOP for Phase 1, in which they now allow fully-vaccinated people in Phase 1 to also travel at FULL vehicle capacity!

However, taxi and e-hailing services are still limited to TWO (2) persons, including the passenger who must sit at the back. This restriction still applies even if both driver and passenger(s) are fully-vaccinated.

Those who are not fully-vaccinated are still limited to TWO (2) persons per household, who can leave in the same vehicle to purchase food and other essential items.

They can, of course, travel at up to 3 people, including the driver, to seek medical assistance or for healthcare, screening tests, vaccination, security or emergency reasons.

The good news is – the 10 km limit on travel distance is now lifted, for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people.

Finally – interstate and inter-district travel is still FORBIDDEN in PPN Phase 1 areas, except in special cases.

Fully-Vaccinated In Malaysia : Do YOU Qualify?

To qualify for the privileges above, you must be fully-vaccinated according to these requirements :

  • More than 14 days after receiving both doses of the Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Sinovac vaccine.
  • More than 28 days after receiving a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson or Cansino vaccine.

In addition, these privileges apply to all states that have achieved adult vaccination of at least 50%.

For example, the Klang Valley achieved an adult vaccination rate of 64.7% on 14 August 2021, and therefore all fully-vaccinated adults in the Klang Valley can enjoy these privileges.

SUKE Highway Crane + Beam Collapse Kills 3, Injures 1!

A launcher crane toppled over at the SUKE Highway construction site in Kuala Lumpur this morning, killing 3 workers and seriously injuring a passing driver!

SUKE Highway Crane Collapse Kills 3, Injures 1!

A launcher crane topped over at the SUKE Highway construction site in Kuala Lumpur this morning, crushing a car passing underneath.

Three construction workers from China died in the accident :

  • two of them fell from a height of about 120 feet / 36.5 metres, while
  • the third worker was trapped under the launcher crane, and could not be extricated

The driver of the Perodua Bezza car was seriously injured when a piece of the crane fell and crushed his car.

This is the second disaster to hit the SUKE Highway project this month, with a segment collapsing on 3 March 2021!

Recommended : SUKE Highway Collapse : Overloaded Trailer The Cause!

Chua Jia Wen shared with us this picture that shows the concrete beam (seen in the video above) that fell after the crane collapsed on it.

It is a miracle that the massive concrete beam did not hit anyone below!

The massive concrete beam fell right in front of her condo! Imagine if cars were driving in and out at that time…

Here are pictures from the scene, taken by passerbys. We removed pictures of the bodies, out of respect for the deceased and their families.

SUKE Highway Crane Collapse : Road Should Have Been Closed!

According to Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, the road should have been closed when the crane was moved, as part of the SOP.

“In the implementation of such a project, if for example, you want to move the gantry launcher, the road needs to be closed. Once the structure has been safely (moved), only then can you reopen the route.”

He also said that the project contractor had been repeatedly warned to comply with the SOPs, and urged the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) to investigate.

He said that if the contractor was found to have breached the SOPs, strict action should be taken, “These contractors can be blacklisted, not given any project for two years.

We certainly hope that the punishment for a tragedy that has so far killed three people and seriously injured one person is not just being blacklisted for two years!

Ismail Sabri : KL-Selangor Travel Allowed, But Not Putrajaya

For those who are confused by the latest inter-district travel announcement, here is the final word – travel between KL and Selangor is allowed, but not to Putrajaya.

Ismail Sabri : KL, Selangor, Putrajaya Considered One Zone

Back in May 2020, the Malaysia National Security Council (MKN) announced that KL, Selangor and Putrajaya are considered one zone for the purpose of disease control – the Klang Valley zone.

Therefore, travel between KL, Selangor and Putrajaya was allowed at that time, as they were all CMCO / PKPB areas under the same zone, not different states.

The government considered travel between KL, Selangor and Putrajaya as inter-district travel, not interstate travel.

Ismail Sabri : KL-Selangor Travel Allowed, But Not Putrajaya

On 2 March 2021, the Malaysia National Security Council (MKN) announced that inter-district travel was now allowed nationwide, except in Sabah.

However, that caused some confusion as people wondered – is KL, Selangor and Putrajaya still considered as the same zone?

Malaysia Senior Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri later issued another statement, reaffirming that Selangor, KL and Putrajaya are still considered as one zonethe Klang Valley zone.

However, only free travel between KL and Selangor is allowed this time. This is because Putrajaya has been classified as an RMCO area.

Therefore, travel from CMCO areas like KL and Selangor to Putrajaya will require police permission, unless it is for official work purposes (with employer’s letter).

Official Statement On KL, Selangor, Putrajaya Travel By Ismail Sabri

At 9 PM on 2 March 2021, MKN issued this official statement by Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri :

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob
Menteri Kanan Pertahanan
2 Mac 2021

And here is our English translation :

As implemented during CMCO 1.0, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are considered one zone.

Cross movements between Selangor (CMCO) to Kuala Lumpur (CMCO) are allowed.

However travel from Selangor or Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya is still not allowed, because Putrajaya is under RMCO status. This is to protect Putrajaya from the spread of COVID-19.

Travel from Selangor or Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya still requires police permission except for those who are working and have employer’s letter.

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob
Senior Defence Minister
2 March 2021
