Fact Check: RM1K CMCO Fine For Sitting Side By Side In Car!

Will you get a RM 1,000 fine for sitting side by side in a car during the CMCO / PKPB lockdown?

Is a passenger supposed to sit behind the driver, for social distancing reasons, during the lockdown?

Take a look at the viral posts, and find out what the facts really are!

 

Claims : RM1K CMCO Fine For Sitting Side By Side In A Car!

This message is going viral on WhatsApp – evidence that a passenger just got fined RM 1,000 for sitting next to the driver during the CMCO lockdown!

Take a look at the message and picture of the police compound the driver allegedly received.

For those who prefer to read proper English instead of Manglish, here is our “translation” :

Sharing information passed on by my colleague.

Two persons are allowed in the car, but the passenger must sit behind the driver.

His friend sat in front with him and was fined RM 1,000.

There was no way to argue out of this fine.

Note : We intentionally added the HOAX overlay to prevent the images from being further misused.

This second warning circulated later, with a voice message in Hokkien, claiming that the police issued his friend this compound for letting her daughter sit next to her.

 

RM1K CMCO Fine For Sitting Side By Side In Car : Bullshit!

This is yet another hoax, and here are the reasons why…

Fact #1 : Two Persons Are Allowed To Go Out Together

The Malaysian National Security Council (MKN) released these SOPs for three regions under CMCO / PKPB lockdown :

The three SOPs state clearly that two persons per household are allowed to go out together to purchase food and essentials.

Fact #2 : There Is No Limit On Commercial Vehicles

According to the MKN SOP, there is no new limit on vehicles carrying goods and providing essential services, including those involved in business and industrial activities.

The number of people in such vehicles are limited to what’s allowed by the commercial vehicle licence.

For example, if a delivery van is licensed for up to 3 people, then 3 people may sit together in that delivery van.

Fact #3 : Taxis + E-hailing Vehicles Are Limited To 2 Passengers

The MKN SOP specifically limits taxis and e-hailing vehicles to 2 passengers.

That means a total of 3 people are allowed in a car, and two of them will definitely be sitting side by side.

So it will not be logical for the police to issue a CMCO fine for people sitting side by side in any vehicle.

Fact #4 : No Requirement For A Passenger To Sit Behind The Driver

For the police to issue a fine, it must be specifically forbidden in the CMCO / PKPB SOP for two persons to sit side by side in a vehicle.

There is no such requirement in the CMCO / PKPB SOP, so it is not possible for the police to issue such a fine.

Fact #5 : That Man Was Fined For Not Socially Distancing In A Restaurant

My eagle-eyed friend, Jory, pointed out that the man was actually fined for not socially distancing himself in a restaurant.

We zoomed into the police compound, and we can see where the offence took place – Restoran Shada Maju.

A quick check on Google Maps gave us the address of this restaurant :

121, Jalan Tengku Badar, Port Klang, Selangor

And guess what was written at the upper right corner of the police compound? The very same address!

Under the MKN SOPs that were first issued, only two persons may sit at the same table if they are dining in a restaurant.

The police is empowered to issue a RM 1,000 fine to those who flout this social distancing rule during the CMCO period.

According to the compound, that was why this man was fined RM 1,000 on 14 October 2020 – the first day of the CMCO lockdown in Selangor.

Only on 15 October 2020 did Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announce that larger tables in restaurants may seat up to 4 people at the same time.

Fact #6 : That Lady Was Fined For Not Wearing A Face Mask

The lady’s compound was not for letting her daughter sit next to her in the car, but rather – for not wearing a face mask outside an air-conditioning shop in Rawang Mutiara.

AMD releases the Radeon Pro Software Enterprise Edition in quarterly updates. Here are what’s new in the Enterprise Edition 18.Q2 driver :

Support for Windows 10 April 2018 Update

Microsoft released the Windows 10 April 2018 Update at the end of April with a slew of new and improved features. Radeon Pro Software Enterprise Edition 18.Q2 adds enterprise-level support for Windows 10 April 2018, so you don’t have to worry about post-upgrade reliability issues.

Display Issues Fixed In Enterprise Edition 18Q2

  • Radeon Pro Overlay will now appear when you run two monitors in clone mode.
  • Fixed display issues for full-screen 3×2 AMD Eyefinity Pro display configurations.

VDI-Specific Known Issues With Enterprise Edition 18Q2

  • VM may disconnect after upgrading to this driver, and will be unable to connect until it is rebooted.
  • The energy subtest of SPECviewperf 12.1.1 may not complete in an MxGPU environment.

Feature Support Information

  • Driver Options is available on Microsoft Windows 10. Always update to the latest gaming drivers to mitigate driver switching issues. This is not available with multi-GPU configurations nor with Radeon Pro Duo (Polaris). This is not available for mobile platforms.
  • Multi-GPU Eyefinity Pro on Microsoft Windows 10 is not currently supported on any hardware for Radeon Pro Software Enterprise Edition 18.Q2.

ISV Certification Notes

  • Due to Maya-MtoA software issue Trac #3142, some Viewport Draw modes for stand-ins draw an infinite line. Workaround is to toggle the Viewport Draw Mode of the stand-in in the Attribute Editor.
  • Autodesk Maya 2017/2018 may show gray patch in playback in certain models due Maya issue Maya 41945. Workaround is to click on a different frame on timeline or to click on first frame.

Apple Boot Camp

The AMD Radeon Pro Software Enterprise Edition 18Q2 is not intended for use on Radeon GPUs running in Apple Boot Camp.

The continuous performance optimizations in every Radeon Pro Software driver update, thanks in part to the close technology partnerships we have with ISV application developers, means you can get new GPU-like performance improvements over the lifetime of your graphics investment, as shown in the chart below.

For the Radeon Pro Software Enterprise Edition 18.Q2 driver we are delivering significant performance improvements in Dassault Systèmes CATIA. The 18Q2 driver is up to 38% faster when running AMD’s internal benchmark of complex customer models and up to two times faster with the AMD internal assembly model benchmark.

For design and manufacturing applications, the 18.Q2 Enterprise Edition driver when compared to the Radeon Pro Software Enterprise Driver 17Q2 is up to an estimated 47% faster in Siemens NX when tested with SPECviewperf 12.1 snx-02, up to an estimated 14% faster in PTC Creo when tested with SPECapc for PTC Creo 3.0, and up to an estimated 12% faster in SOLIDWORKS when tested with SPECapc for SOLIDWORKS 2015.

While not technically part of the Radeon Pro Software Enterprise Edition 18.Q2 driver, AMD also introduced updated versions of the Radeon ProRender plug-ins for 3ds Max, Maya and Blender. Following the release of new macOS versions in April, AMD has just released :

  • updated Windows and Linux versions of the Radeon ProRender plug-in for Blender,

  • an updated Windows version of the Radeon ProRender plug-in for Maya, as well as,

  • an updated Radeon ProRender plug-in for 3ds Max.

Deadpool Opening Scene Was Rendered By NVIDIA Quadro

It’s amazing the kind of mayhem that can be unleashed when cutting-edge technology gets pushed past its old limits.

[adrotate banner=”4″]Consider Deadpool, which tells the tale of Wade Winston Wilson, a Special Forces operative turned mercenary whose mutant powers are rivaled only by his smart mouth.

It’s also the story of how the film’s startling opening sequence — one that would’ve seemed unimaginable a few years ago — came to be.fhp

Based on Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero and directed by Blur Studios’ Tim Miller, Deadpool is action-packed from beginning to end, starting with the film’s incredible title sequence.

It’s a 90-second-long camera shot that weaves its way through a climactic, frozen-in-time, battle scene. Miller turned to Blur to develop the sequence, which was created entirely in CG.

 

GPU-Powered Rendering Turns Seeing Into Believing

As a first step, Blur developed detailed pre viz – previews of what the scenes would look like – to show to the studio and to Tim. Typically, such concept previews are rudimentary. They use simplified models, lighting and textures. But not all clients can see beyond these limitations.

Kevin Margo, a visual effects supervisor/director at Blur who served as a lighting TD for Deadpool, had previously explored GPU rendering during the making of his own fully computer-generated short film, Construct. So, he knew it would allow his team to make the previz as visually realistic and immersive as possible.

“We wanted to put our best quality preview in front of Fox,” Margo said.

Blur Studios built CG assets from the ground up using Autodesk 3ds Max. They then rendered them using Chaos Group’s GPU renderer, V-Ray RT, which runs exclusively on NVIDIA GPUs, and is up to 15 times faster than a CPU renderer.

 

GPU Rendering Delivers Speed and Fidelity

Filmmakers funneled footage captured on set along with visual effects into Open Drives’ storage offering. Blur’s CG artists, equipped with HP Z840 workstations running NVIDIA Quadro M6000 GPUs, then got to work producing a previz of the opening title sequence that was a close approximation of the final.

Blur was able to refine the design, quickly applying textures, global illumination and more — all interactively. That led them to complete and render the scene’s previz in just days.

The result was a physically based render in super-high fidelity. So the executives at Fox could see exactly what the intended sequence would look like to give it the greenlight.
