Was Pfizer Vaccine Designed To Make COVID-19 Endemic?

Did Pfizer design their vaccine to turn the COVID-19 pandemic into an endemic, so they can make A LOT MORE money?

Find out what’s going on, and what the facts really are!

Was Pfizer Vaccine Designed To Make COVID-19 Endemic?

A WhatsApp message linking to a Kim Iversen video posted on 17 March 2021 has gone viral on WhatsApp, with this alarming warning :

The truth is out. Pfizer Executive admits that they their vaccine is not designed to end the pandemic but to turn it into an endemic so that the demand of their vaccines will continue forever and give them the opportunity to make a lot of money selling their vaccine. Once the pandemic becomes an endemic, just like the flu, all those who have already been vaccinated will need to continue to receive a booster every year or so.

Now that you are up to speed, let’s see what the facts really are!

Pfizer Vaccine Designed To Make COVID-19 Endemic? Bullshit!

We watched the Kim Iversen episode where she made those claims, so you wouldn’t have to.

Now, let’s address the claims in the viral message and her video one by one, so you have the FACTS.

Claim #1 : Pfizer Caught Saying COVID-19 Will Turn Endemic

Verdict : FALSE

Caught? Pfizer CFO and Executive VP of Global Supply, Frank A. D’Amelio openly said this in a virtual global healthcare conference, and it was reported publicly.

The company anticipates a “significant opportunity” for its vaccine “from a demand perspective” and “from a pricing perspective” as it shifts “from pandemic to endemic”.

How is that the definition of “caught” when he publicly made those comments?

That’s just Kim Iversen trying to hoodwink you into thinking that there is something nefarious afoot.

The truth is scientists across the world believe that SARS-CoV-2 will likely become an endemic virus, as this Nature survey from February 2021 shows.

Claim #2 : Pfizer Excited COVID-19 Will Turn Endemic

Verdict : FALSE

Kim Iversen also claimed that Pfizer is excited that COVID-19 will turn endemic.

Nowhere in the article (which you can read here) was it mentioned that Pfizer executives were excited about the pandemic becoming an endemic situation.

The truth is he was merely telling an analyst that there is an opportunity for Pfizer to increase their vaccine prices as demand drops when COVID-19 pandemic shifts into an endemic situation.

And while Kim Iversen makes it sound like an endemic situation is what Pfizer is aiming for, it is not something any pharmaceutical company is capable of.

The truth is our refusal to quickly vaccinate ourselves will be the reason why COVID-19 could end up becoming endemic.

Claim #3 : Pfizer COMIRNATY Was Developed At The Behest Of The US Government

Verdict : FALSE

Kim Iversen claimed that the Pfizer COMIRNATY (BNT162b2) vaccine was developed at the behest of the US government.

The truth is the BNT162b2 vaccine was developed by BioNTech SE – a German company, long before the Trump Administration came up with Operation Warp Speed.

And here is the zinger – Pfizer and BioNTech declined to join Operation Warp Speed, and BioNTech was funded by the German government to a tune of $445 million.

The BionTech COMIRNATY vaccine was really created in Germany by Germans of Turkish descent, and funded by German money. The US government had ZERO involvement.

BioNTech founders – Uğur Şahin and Özlem Türeci

Claim #4 : Big Pharma Makes MORE Money In COVID-19 Endemic

Verdict : FALSE

At around the 5:53 mark, Kim claimed that Big Pharma hopes that COVID-19 doesn’t end, so that they can make money off these vaccines.

By preventing COVID-19 using vaccines, Big Pharma actually loses out on a lot of money that could be made treating patients with COVID-19.

Think of how much money we already spent on ventilators, and expensive drugs with very limited effect like baricitinib and remdesivir.

Big Pharma stands to make MORE MONEY if vaccines did not exist, or were delayed.

She also does not understand that there are far fewer infections in an endemic.

So yes, Big Pharma may make more money from their vaccines, but they will lose a lot more money that could have been made from treating COVID-19.

Claim #5 : Big Pharma Has No Desire To Cure COVID-19

Verdict : FALSE

In a rambling monologue, that goes off-the-rail at certain points, Kim claimed at around the 5:55 mark that Big Pharma has no desire to cure COVID-19, AIDS, and cancer.

She should stop talking about medicine since she knows so little about it.

Vaccines are NEVER designed to cure a disease. They are designed to PREVENT the disease from occurring in the first place.

That is why we take the COVID-19 vaccine before we get it, instead of after – so we have a better chance of preventing it!

Claim #6 : Big Pharma Didn’t Even Try To End COVID-19

Verdict : FALSE

In her rambling monologue, Kim then asked, did Big Pharma even try to end COVID-19?

Seriously? Did she not read the news, and see how many vaccine candidates were developed? Or how many potential therapeutics were investigated?

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were developed and certified for use in less than a year after the pandemic began, and they offered 94%~95% protection against COVID-19.

Why don’t Kim tell us what SHE did to end COVID-19? What did ANYONE ELSE do to end COVID-19? Who else does she believe would be better at ending COVID-19?

Claim #7 : You Can Still Spread COVID-19 After Vaccination

Verdict : MISLEADING

Kim then claimed that those who were vaccinated must continue to wear face masks and socially distance themselves because they can still spread COVID-19.

That’s misleading because the advice was based on 3 reasons :

  • it was partly precautionary in nature *,
  • it takes weeks to build up your immunity after vaccination,
  • the vaccine is not 100% efficacious, so a small number of people can still get COVID-19.

* The studies had not looked into whether the vaccines can prevent transmission, so they are advising vaccinated people to maintain the same precautions, JUST IN CASE.

It makes sense to tell people to continue taking precautions until herd immunity is achieved when the vast majority (80% or higher) of the population is vaccinated.

Claim #8 : Vaccinated People Have To Double Down On Precautions

Verdict : FALSE

At around the 8:50 mark, Kim surmised that the vaccines cannot protect others, and that people have to “double down” on precautions.

That is simply NOT TRUE. Those who are vaccinated against COVID-19 do NOT have to double down on their precautions.

I think it would be instructive at this point to share this picture of Jude Law in the movie, Contagion.

Claim #9 : Falling COVID-19 Cases Not Related To Vaccine

Verdict : FALSE

At 9:25, Kim claimed that no matter what the COVID-19 vaccination rate is like, the cases are falling.

She used the example of Israel with almost 100% vaccination rate, but has the same number of cases as Portugal, which only vaccinated 10% of their population.

She conveniently neglected to mention that Portugal has been under a nationwide lockdown since 15 January 2021! Probably because she earlier mocked lockdowns as useless…

On the other hand, Israel eased lockdown restrictions THREE TIMES since 7 February 2021, and the third stage easing even opened up tourist attractions and gatherings of up to 50 people!

Claim #10 : Test Vaccine Effectiveness By Jabbing People In Southern Hemisphere

Verdict : FALSE

At the 10:20 mark, Kim Iversen tells us that the only way to test the effectiveness of these vaccines is to start jabbing people in the Southern Hemisphere.

No, Kim. You perform what’s called a randomised, double-blind, placebo controlled trial, which was what ALL certified vaccines have undergone!

CoronaVac was tested in Brazil, and Novovax NVX-CoV2373 was tested in Australia.

There are also ongoing trials of those vaccines and even Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines as they are deployed in other Southern Hemisphere countries like Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia.

So Kim was either being extremely ignorant, or intentionally deceptive, about what’s being done to determine vaccine effectiveness.

Claim #11 : Australia + New Zealand Have Few / No Cases Because It’s Summer!

Verdict : FALSE

Kim Iversen apparently thinks that COVID-19 spread in Australia and New Zealand is super low or zero because it’s summer over there right now!

OMFG, the stupidity of her monologue on COVID-19 in summer and winter. Many tropical countries – where it’s hot and sunny most of the year – have been hit hard by COVID-19.

New Zealand has actually secured enough Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to fully vaccinate their population.

Australia, on the other hand, is vaccinating its population with the Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines at the moment.

Claim #12 : New Zealand Stop Vaccinating Due To South African Variant

Verdict : FALSE

At 11:20, Kim claimed that New Zealand stopped vaccinating their population, because the vaccines won’t work on the South African variant.

That’s simply FALSE, because New Zealand continues to vaccinate its population using the Pfizer vaccine.

While the Pfizer vaccine appears to be less effective against the South African variant (B.1.351), it still offered “robust” protection against that variant.

She probably conflated New Zealand with South Africa, which halted their use of the AstraZeneca vaccine after a study showed “disappointing” results against the South African variant.

Claim #13 : Kim Iversen Is Not An Antivaxxer

Verdict : FALSE

Sorry, Kim, but you are an antivaxxer. You are actively telling people LIES about the COVID-19 vaccines!

You tell people that they should “know the data, know the research, know the reality“, when you yourself are either extremely IGNORANT about the data, research and reality, or are intentionally MISLEADING people about them.

Even when you talked people about your 94 year old grandmother, you point out that at her age, she isn’t concerned about “long term side effects”, suggesting that there are any.

Tell us, Kim – WHAT LONG TERM SIDE EFFECTS do these vaccines have???

Claim #14 : You Have To Keep Getting The COVID-19 Vaccine

Verdict : FALSE

At 13:30, she claimed that they are saying that you have to keep getting it again and again, like the flu shot.

That is a POSSIBILITY that health officials have said, due to the fact that COVID-19 has spread so far and wide, and the fact that it’s mutating to form new variants.

However, we call it false, because that was NOT what the Pfizer executives are saying. Nowhere in that article did any Pfizer executive say that the vaccine must be “taken again and again and again”.

The truth is the SARS-CoV-2 virus has the opportunity to mutate to form new variants every time it infects someone.

So the best way to prevent mutations and an endemic situation is to VACCINATE EVERYONE as quickly as possible!

Claim #15 : COVID-19 Is Not Dangerous For Many People

Verdict : FALSE

At around the 13:50 point, she claims that like the flu, COVID-19 is not dangerous for many people. So perhaps that’s why most people feel like they don’t need the vaccine.

We should point out that as of 20 March 2021, 2.71 million people have died from COVID-19, and that number will not abate for many more months to come.

In comparison, influenza – the flu – kills between 290~650,000 people per year.

Based on those numbers, COVID-19 is, on average, at least 4.8X more likely to KILL you than the flu.

Scott Morrison : Did He Mistake Maradona For Madonna?

Like Donald Trump, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is being laughed at for mistaking Maradona for Madonna!

Find out what’s going on, and what the facts really are!

Scott Morrison : Did He Mistake Maradona For Madonna?

A screenshot of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s tweet about Madonna’s death is tickling people all over the Internet.

Sad to wake up to the news of Madonna passing away overnight.

Material Girl is one of my all time favourite albums. RIP

Scott Morrison Madonna Death Tweet : Just A Parody Account

The truth is Scott Morrison never posted that tweet. It was posted by a parody account, and people just assumed it was genuine.

Fact #1 : It Was Posted By The Scott Morrison Parody Account

We traced the origin of the viral screenshot to this tweet by the Scott Morrison PM of Australia (parody) account.

Fact #2 : Donald Trump Tweet On Madonna Was Also False

US President Donald Trump was also said to have mistaken Diego Maradona for Madonna. However, it looks like the tweet was edited, and not an actual tweet.

Fact #3 : Many People Are Mistaking Maradona For Madonna

That said, many people have been posting messages of condolences about Madonna’s premature death… so let us be very clear.

The Argentinian footballer, Diego Maradona (left) was the one who died. Not the American singer-songwriter, Madonna (right).

Fact Check : China Threatens West With Waterloo In SCS?

Did China just threaten the West with a repeat of the Battle of Waterloo in the South China Sea?

Find out what is this new Chinese threat going viral on social media, and what the FACTS really are…

Claim : China threatens West with Battle of Waterloo in South China Sea!

In the viral poster being shared on social media, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying is seen warning Western powers – Don’t Let It Become Your Waterloo! with a hypothetical scenario.

WARNING ISSUED TO WESTERN ALLIES IN SOUTH CHINA SEA

Don’t Let It Become Your Waterloo!

The scenario :

  • An attack by US, UK, Australia & Japanese naval forces will be met with electronic disabling of all ships and planes making them sitting targets…
  • US & allies missiles will fail to fire & if they do may explode mid air or re-directed to return to base!
  • The Chinese will give them one warning to withdraw or be sunk!
  • WATERLOO REPLAYED IN 60 MINUTES OF LESS

China threatens West with Waterloo in South China Sea : Complete BS

While it may excite pro-China netizens, this is yet another piece of “fan fiction”, like US Navy withdrawing from South China Sea or Mark Zuckerberg’s Not Pretty China Wife.

Fact #1 : Hua Chunying Never Threatened Waterloo

Anyone who checks Hua Chunying’s official Twitter account can confirm that she never posted such a threat.

She may be sarcastic and controversial in her remarks, but she is the official spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Such an overt threat of military action against the US, UK, Australia and Japan, will be seen as an official declaration of hostile intent by China.

Fact #2 : Chinese Censors Would Not Have Allowed Such Fake News, Unless…

Such a fake post would not be allowed to be shared on social media, especially Chinese microblogs, without the expressed permission of the Chinese government.

Chinese censors actively and quickly remove all references to anything remotely critical of the Chinese government, like the 1989 Tiananmen Square protest and massacre, or the Hong Kong protests.

We should also not forget that they quickly clamped down on Dr. Li Wenliang when he tried to warn his fellow doctors about COVID-19, forcing him to sign a letter promising not to do it again.

So it would only be possible for any Chinese-related fake news to be spread so widely, with the tacit approval of the Chinese government.

Fact #3 : EMP Weapons Can Disable Ships + Planes, But…

EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) weapons can be used to disrupt or destroy electronics on ships and planes, but they are not magical weapons as claimed in the post :

  • High-Altitude EMP (HEMP) weapons detonate nuclear warheads in the stratosphere to disrupt electronics in a wide area.
  • Non-Nuclear EMP (NNEMP) weapons that use high explosives to deliver a much smaller electromagnetic pulse.
  • High-Powered Microwave (HPM) weapons like magnetrons and vircators – think of them as primitive versions of the ion cannons you see in Star Wars.

A Chinese HEMP weapon would destroy electronics in a very large area (including their own), so it won’t be deployed close to their own coast. This is something they would deploy against the US homeland.

An NNEMP missile would be something the Chinese would use against a carrier group, affecting a relatively small area – several dozen kilometres. However, these missiles would require constant targeting data, or the carrier group could simply move out of danger in mere minutes.

HPM weapons are still rather primitive with very short range. They also cannot target mass targets like EMP weapons.

Fact #4 : Disabled Missiles Won’t Return To Base

We applaud the writer for his/her creativity, but unlike regular mail, missiles don’t come with a return address.

Missiles disabled by EMP weapons, or electronic jammers, will just lose direction or fall harmlessly out of the sky.

They won’t, however, fly back to their base like homing pigeons. Neither can the Chinese reprogram them to return to base…

Fact #5 : China Is The Aggressor Here

While the writer warns of reprisals if the US, UK, Australia and Japan attack, the fact of the matter is – China is the aggressor in the South China Sea.

Whatever may have happened in the past, the US, UK, Australia and Japan are not the ones illegally building artificial islands, or militarising them, or threatening harm to passing ships and planes.

There is no danger of the US, UK, Australia or Japan attacking China. No one in the right mind would believe in such nonsense.

Rather, the danger lies in Chinese overreach in the South China Sea sparking a war, like how Hitler’s overreach with the invasion of Poland started World War 2.

Arguably, only an attack on Taiwan would draw the Western powers (sans Japan) to intervene militarily, and a military occupation of the Senkaku Islands would force Japan and the US to respond militarily.

Fact #6 : China Would Be The French At Waterloo

It’s not certain why China would warn the Western powers and Japan that they would face their own Battle of Waterloo.

In the Battle of Waterloo, it was Napoleon who attacked the allied forces from Prussia, the UK, the Netherlands, Hanover, Brunswick and Nassau.

In this fan fiction, China would be the French at Waterloo, fighting against the allied forces from the US, UK, Australia and Japan.

Is the writer suggesting that China is bound to lose against the allied forces? Interesting…

AirAsia Unlimited Pass : What Is It?

Stung by the Airbus bribery scandal and the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis, the AirAsia Unlimited Pass promotion is their effort to stem the bleed.

AirAsia Unlimited Pass : Extended To June 2021

The AirAsia Unlimited Pass was on sale until 7 March 2020, which meant the latest anyone could fly was up to the first week of March, 2021.

At this point, we have to say – we told you so…

However, your dissatisfaction has paid off. AirAsia just extended the Unlimited Pass flight availability till 30 June 2020 – an extension of about 3 months for most people.

Do note that this is not an extension of the sale period. That ended on 7 March 2020. The extension is for flight purchases for existing AirAsia Unlimited Pass holders.

Fact Check : Chinese Not Allowed In Australian Supermarkets

A video started circulating yesterday as evidence that Chinese people are no longer allowed in Australian supermarkets, presumably another example of COVID-19 racism.

Find out whether the video is genuine, and what’s REALLY going on!

COVID-19 Racism : What Is It?

Early in the pandemic, while COVID-19 was predominantly restricted to China, there were many cases of overt acts of racism and even violence towards Chinese or Asian people in Western countries and Australia.

This was based on the mistaken belief that COVID-19 is a Chinese or Asian disease, and/or it is spread through Chinese or Asian people.

Claim : Chinese Not Allowed In Australian Supermarkets

A video is going viral on social media, shared as the latest evidence of COVID-19 racism against Chinese and Asian people in general.

Chinese not allowed in
Supermarkets in Austrilla
So it’s started

Chinese Not Allowed In Australian Supermarkets : FALSE

Now, the video is genuine and was recorded just days ago, so it is recent as well. However, it is NOT a video of COVID-19 racism. Here are the facts…

Fact #1 : This Video Is Real

This video is genuine, and was recorded by Nikki Schoerie on 11 April 2020, at the Big W store in Lilydale, northeast of Melbourne, Australia.

Fact #2 : The Argument Was Over Baby Formula

According to eyewitness reports, the couple wearing face masks were trying to buy four tins of baby formula when they were stopped, because they were spotted buying the baby formula earlier the same day.

The man refused, and started arguing with the staff. Stephanie Groen (with the green sweater) asked him to put the tins back because he was holding up the line.

When he started yelling and swearing at her, the older man (see in the video above) intervened. He also said that he saw the couple purchasing baby formula at a local chemist earlier.

That set off the younger man who threw the tins into Stephanie’s trolley, ripped off his face mask and tried to strike the older man.

Fact #3 : There Was No Racism

Big W and major Australian supermarkets have a two-tin limit to prevent Chinese daigou shoppers from buying baby formula in bulk to resell for a profit in China.

That is not a racist policy, because the limit applied to everyone – Australians and non-Australians alike.

Verdict : Yet Another Example Of Daigou!

Just to be clear, Chinese shoppers are not being stopped from entering or shopping at any supermarket in Australia. These isn’t even a case of COVID-19 racism.

This is just another example of daigou shoppers trying to bypass limits set explicitly to prevent bulk buying of baby formula.

Daigou shoppers have long been a problem, not only in Australia but also in Hong Kong and Macau, which are right next door to China!

In fact, Hong Kong authorities set a limit on how much baby formula any person can bring when they exit Hong Kong!

Here is a list of mandatory government taxes and fees for a 2-way return trip for available destinations :

Step 9 : Add your baggage, meals and seat allocations!

Step 10 : Complete your booking by paying the necessary taxes, fees and add-on fees.

AirAsia Unlimited Pass Guide : Warning!

AirAsia would like us to remind everyone that your Unlimited Pass cannot be returned, refunded or transferred.

They will also void your Unlimited Pass if you are no-show for 3 consecutive times for your confirmed flights.

So make sure you REALLY want to fly to those destinations on those dates before booking!

AirAsia Unlimited Pass : A Waste Of Money, Unless…

The AirAsia Unlimited Pass promises UNLIMITED AIR TRAVEL to five countries, for a whole year!

But frankly speaking – the AirAsia Unlimited Pass is A WASTE OF MONEY, unless you fit a certain set of criteria.

Find out if you fit that small set of criteria, because if you don’t – do NOT sign up for the AirAsia Unlimited Pass!

AirAsia Unlimited Pass : What Is It?

Stung by the Airbus bribery scandal and the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis, the AirAsia Unlimited Pass promotion is their effort to stem the bleed.

From 29 February to 7 March 2020, AirAsia BIG Members can purchase the Unlimited Pass which would give them the right to purchase tickets to seven sectors, as many times as they wish – for a year :

  • Australia
  • Japan
  • Korea
  • China
  • Taiwan (only Taipei) *thanks for the heads-up, Goldfries!
  • India
  • United States (only Honolulu)

Recommended : AirAsia Unlimited Pass : Destinations + Embargo Periods!

That sounds like an AWESOME deal, doesn’t it? Who doesn’t want unlimited air flights to all five countries for a whole year?

However, AirAsia threw in so many caveats, the Unlimited Pass is almost useless… unless you are willing to put up with the hassle.

AirAsia Unlimited Pass : TLDR Advice

For those who don’t have the time to read, here is our quick summary of what you need to know :

  1. COVID-19 will prevent / discourage you from using the Unlimited Pass for many months.
  2. You are limited to flights over 4 hours, and only with the D7 or XJ carrier codes.
  3. You are NOT guaranteed tickets, because there are limited promo seats on each flight.
  4. The Unlimited Pass also may not apply during peak periods like weekends, public holidays and school holidays.
  5. Families should NOT bother with the Unlimited Pass. Holidays should be fun, not torture.
  6. You must be willing to book your ticket, and be seated, separately from anyone you are travelling with.
  7. It is best purchased and used by retirees, or singles / couples who have flexible working arrangements and can travel on working days.

AirAsia Unlimited Pass : Why It’s A Waste Of Money

Reason #1 : Remember COVID-19?

Four of those five countries are in the throes of fighting COVID-19, and it is unlikely that India won’t be affected soon. And the COVID-19 coronavirus is spreading, not receding.

So how likely do you think you will be travelling to those countries over the next 12 months, even if there is no travel ban?

IMHO, many people will not be travelling (voluntarily) to China, Korea, Japan and Australia in the next 6 monthsat the very least.

Reason #2 : You’re NOT Guaranteed A Flight

With tourism falling off the cliff over the next few months, not only will people cancel their flights, so will airlines.

Even if you are fearless, it doesn’t mean AirAsia will be fearless as well, or stupid enough to fly an almost empty plane just because you insist on flying.

As stated in their rules (see below), buying the Unlimited Pass does NOT guarantee you to a flight. It is up to them to decide whether you qualify for a flight to your destination.

Reason #3 : Severe Limitations On Tickets

It’s stated in their Q&A (conveniently located in a separate page) that :

  • tickets are limited, and not available for all flights or destinations, or time periods, especially public holidays, school breaks and weekends.
  • only long haul flights of over 4 hours with the carrier code D7 or XJ are allowed.
  • you can only buy it for direct flights, no connecting flights allowed.
  • every passenger must book the flight individually – you cannot book as a group, even if everyone has the Unlimited Pass.
  • you must be 12 years or older, and have your own BIG Member account.

These limitations are designed to reduce your ability to fly as often as you would like using the AirAsia Unlimited Pass. Families, for example, must be willing to be seated separately.

Unless you are single or a couple, and able to travel during work days, you may not even have the opportunity to use the AirAsia Unlimited Pass at all!

Recommended : AirAsia Unlimited Pass Guide : Planning Your Travel!

Reason #4 : Forced To Pay Full Price

Flying as a group will be problematic, because there are limited seats available for the Unlimited Pass.

What will likely happen is that a few members of your group will be able to use their Unlimited Pass, while the others will have to pay full price for their tickets.

The way out would be to split the group up, and fly on separate flights. But obviously, this makes travel much more of a hassle.

And remember – even if you get to fly out with the Unlimited Pass, you may not get to do so on the way back. You may have to pay full price, unless you are able and willing to adjust your return date according to what’s available for the Unlimited Pass.

Reason #5 : Fuel, Baggage + Other Fees

Even if you manage to several flights using the Unlimited Pass, they aren’t free. You will still need to cough up extra money for ancillary fees.

Budget airlines like AirAsia make a large percentage of their profits not from flight tickets, but from ancillary revenue – administrative fees, baggage fees, assigned seat fees, flight insurance, cancellations, documentation, meals, merchandise, fuel surcharges, etc.

In Q3 2019, almost a quarter of AirAsia’s revenue came from such ancillary sources – a whopping RM 686 million. And unlike revenue from flight tickets – they have relatively low costs – and so they contribute substantially to the airline’s PROFITS.

Frequent AirAsia travellers will also tell you that these ancillary fees often cost as much as, or even more, than the flight tickets!

AirAsia Unlimited Pass : Who Should Buy It?

Based on the severe restrictions AirAsia places on the Unlimited Pass, the best people to buy it should meet these requirements :

  • retired, single or a couple
  • able to travel on normal working days
  • would like to travel to those 5 countries
  • willing to put up with booking / travel hassles

Everyone else should not bother. Really. Travel should be fun, not a torture.

And we should point out that the target group above can often get free or heavily discounted flights on AirAsia without the Unlimited Pass. Thanks for the screenshots, Nigel!

So all the Unlimited Pass does is “force” you to travel more on AirAsia – they won’t make money from your flights, but they will make their money from your ancillary fees.

AirAsia Unlimited Pass : The Caveats

AirAsia conveniently lists the caveats of the Unlimited Pass in two sections in a separate Q&A page, which we have combined and summarised here (with our emphasis) :

  • It is only applicable on direct long haul flights of over 4 hours with carrier code D7 & XJ.
  • It excludes flights to Bali, Singapore, Jeddah and all Fly-thru routes. Embargo period applies.
  • Flight redemption is limited and may not be available for all flights, all destinations including public holidays, school breaks and weekends.
  • Promotions which are applicable for bookings made via airasia.com and AirAsia Mobile App are limited to regular base fare only and shall not include Premium Flex or Value Pack bundled category.
  • All applicable taxes, fees or charges imposed by the regulatory bodies must be paid at the time of purchase unless otherwise stated.
  • It is available for BIG Members within Malaysia who are at least 12 years of age on the date of departure and the passenger must be the BIG Member who made the booking. Each AirAsia Unlimited Pass is assigned to one (1) passenger only with one (1) BIG Member account.
  • You can only book for yourself, and cannot select multiple passengers using the AirAsia Unlimited Pass.
  • In the event any travel agency or party other than an individual BIG Member purchased the AirAsia Unlimited Pass and subsequently made flight bookings using the AirAsia Unlimited Pass, AirAsia shall have the right to cancel/forfeit such AirAsia Unlimited Pass and the flight bookings, without any liability on the part of AirAsia to such agency, third party or any passenger.
  • AirAsia reserves the right to cancel or forfeit your Unlimited Pass, if you miss more than three (3) flights.
  • The AirAsia Unlimited Pass cannot be sold, bartered, assigned or transferred to another person. Any attempt to transfer the AirAsia Unlimited Pass or book travel using the AirAsia Unlimited Pass for someone other than the holder of the AirAsia Unlimited Pass will result in immediate forfeiture of the AirAsia Unlimited Pass.
  • Upon purchasing the AirAsia Unlimited Pass, the passenger shall have the right to book and fly on AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia X flights to Australia, India, China, Korea and Japan for an unlimited number of times, subject to full and final payment of any applicable airport charges, taxes and regulatory fees, or other charges.
  • Use of the AirAsia Unlimited Pass will not earn any BIG Points, and flights flown using the AirAsia Unlimited Pass will not count towards any offers or bonuses. Redemption of BIG Points is also not allowed for the purchase of the AirAsia Unlimited Pass.
  • When purchasing the AirAsia Unlimited Pass, passengers must ensure their details in the BIG Member account (i.e. name and date of birth) are as per passport or identity card. These details will be used for booking during the redemption process.
  • The AirAsia Unlimited Pass is non-refundable.

3rd Gen Ryzen 3000 AUSTRALIA Price List + Analysis!

AMD just announced the Australia price list for the new 3rd Gen Ryzen 3000 family of processors!

Let’s take a look at the official 3rd Gen Ryzen 3000 AUSTRALIA price list, and do some quick calculations…

Find out which CPU offers the best bang for your buck!

3rd Gen Ryzen 3000 Series Primer

The AMD Ryzen 3000 processor family, also known as the 3rd Gen Ryzen processor family, is based on the new AMD Zen 2 architecture, and fabricated on the 7 nm process technology.

The Ryzen 3000 processors boast significantly better single-threaded performance, with an L3 cache that is twice as large as the last-generation 2nd Gen Ryzen processors.

They are also PCIe 4.0-ready, offering 24 lanes that can be increased to 40 lanes, when paired with the new AMD X570 motherboard.

But the best part about these 3rd Gen Ryzen processors (for current AMD users) is their backward compatibility. As long as your AM4 motherboard has an updated BIOS, you can just upgrade to a brand-new Ryzen 3000 class processor!

For more details on what’s new in these 3rd generation Ryzen processors, we recommend reading The AMD 3rd Gen Ryzen Deep Dive Tech Briefing!

Don’t forget to watch the full video briefing by AMD’s Robert Hallock!

AMD Radeon RX 5700 Australia Price + Bundle Confirmed!

Right after AMD announced their pre-sale Radeon RX 5700 price cut, they also announced the official Radeon RX 5700 price list for Australia!

In this article, we will take a look at the official Radeon RX 5700 Australia price list and game bundle, and do some quick calculations…

AMD Radeon RX 5700 Series Primer

The AMD Radeon RX 5700 series of graphics cards is built around the new AMD Navi GPU that uses the new RDNA architecture and fabricated on the 7 nm process technology.

Its redesigned Compute Units deliver 1.25X higher performance per clock, and up to 1.5X better performance per watt.

The AMD Radeon RX 5700 Australia Price List

AMD will only bring in the Radeon RX 5700 XT and Radeon RX 5700 cards for now. No word yet on the Radeon RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition.

Radeon RX
5700 XT
Radeon RX

Australia Launch Price (with 10% GST) AUD 629 AUD 549
US vs Australia Difference +AUD 58 (10.2%) +AUD 49 (9.8%)

Note that the actual sale prices in the US will vary, once sales taxes (between 0% and 12.875%) are factored in.

Also, once factor in the fact that the Australian prices include the 10% GST, they are virtually the same as US prices – AUD 572 for the RX 5700 XT, and AUD 499 for the RX 5700.

In any case, let’s be thankful that AMD decided to cut prices before the Radeon RX 5700 cards went on sale.

By our estimate, these would have been the Australia price list without the Radeon RX 5700 price cut :

  • Radeon RX 5700 XT : ~AUD 704 – more expensive by AUD 75
  • Radeon RX 5700 : ~AUD 596 – more expensive by AUD 47

The AMD Radeon RX 5700 Australia Bundle

Instead of bundling one or two free games like NVIDIA, AMD will be bundling 3 months of Xbox Game Pass with every purchase of a Radeon RX 5700 XT or Radeon RX 5700 graphics card in Australia.

This is a subscription-based service that gives you access to a curated library of over 170 high-quality PC games on Windows 10.

Because Xbox Game Pass is priced at AUD 10.95 per month, this freebie is worth AUD 32.85.

SUFECS – Imagine Cup Asia 2019 People’s Choice Winner!

Team Caeli from India may have won the 2019 Imagine Cup Asia, but another team stood out from the crowd of truly excellent teamsTeam SUFECS from Malaysia. In fact, they impressed Microsoft Ignite Sydney participants so much, they gave the team an award!

Find out what the SUFECS project is all about, and why the team won the Microsoft Ignite People’s Choice Award!

Updated @ 2019-02-25 : Added a new video of Team SUFECS’s pitch at the Imagine Cup Asia 2019, with additional details on the SUFECS system.

Originally posted @ 2019-02-20

Team SUFECS From UTHM, Malaysia

The SUFECS team was formed by four students from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM).

  • Seah Choon Sen : Team Leader & Data Scientist
  • Tan Wei Yang : Technology Developer
  • Mek Zi Cong : Operations
  • Muhammad Adam bin Mazlan : Web Developer

What Is SUFECS All About?

Short for Smart Urban Farming with Automated Environmental Controlled System, SUFECS was developed to make urban farming easier and more accessible to both entrepreneurs and the common people.

Built to automate hydroponic vertical farming, it will continuously monitor and automatically adjust critical environmental parameters to ensure optimal growth. To do that, this enterprising team leveraged IoT devices, cloud computing and machine learning.

  • Multiple electronic sensors monitor conditions within the hydroponic system
  • A control module sends the environmental parameters to Microsoft Azure for processing and logging
  • Deviations from optimal conditions are automatically detected and corrected

The team has demonstrated that SUFECS does not only make it easy for anyone to grow their own crops in an urban, indoor environment, they are able to significantly speed up growth, reducing the time between planting and harvest.

They also showed that SUFECS has successfully increased the size of the plant, and the yield of the crops. This means their system will not only make it easier to setup and maintain an urban hydroponic farm of any size, it will create bigger and better crops.

What Can SUFECS Monitor & Control?

SUFECS is currently able to monitor and control six environmental parameters :

  • ambient temperature,
  • water temperature,
  • humidity level,
  • water level,
  • pH value, and
  • ambient light.

It will also monitor plant height, and alert you when it is ready for harvest.

The team is working to add the ability to monitor and control two additional environmental parameters

  • electrical conductivity
  • dissolved oxygen level

The team has, so far, developed datasets for five different plant types using machine learning.

SUFECS Wins People’s Choice Award @ Microsoft Ignite Sydney

Microsoft held the Microsoft Ignite Sydney a day after Imagine Cup Asia, where they showcased the projects of the top 12 Asian teams.

At the end of Ignite, Team SUFECS received the most vote, and won the People’s Choice Award! Congratulations!
