How To Disable Android TV Lock Screen Requirement!

If you own an Android TV, or Android TV box, you might need to disable the Lock Screen requirement. Find out how to do that!

Why Do You Need To Disable Android TV Lock Screen?

Android TV, whether it’s already integrated into your television set, or in a separate box, requires a Google account to download and install apps through the Google Play Store.

If you have been using your Google Workspace account, or the Free Legacy G Suite account, you will likely encounter this error message:

To access your work account on this device, you’ll need to set a lock screen. This is your organization’s mobile device policy.

A lock screen? Android TV has a TV lock option, but by default, that’s disabled and rightly so – TVs traditionally do not require a password when you turn them on!

You can ignore it, and continue to use your Android TV or Android TV box, but you cannot log into Google Play Store to download and install any apps.

How To Bypass Android TV Lock Screen Requirement!

This Android TV Lock Screen error message appears because Google, by default, sets company accounts to require a Lock Screen on all mobile devices.

The easiest way to bypass this Android TV Lock Screen requirement is to simply use a personal Google Account. Or better still, create a new personal Google Account just for your Android TV.

Once you switch to a personal Google account, you won’t have to face this Lock Screen requirement, and can freely download and install apps from the Google Play Store. However, this method only works for people who only intend to download and use free apps.

If you intend to download and install a paid app, like Minecraft for example, then this method won’t work because that paid app is tied to your Google Workspace / Free Legacy G Suite account.

How To Disable Android TV Lock Screen Requirement!

If you need to use your Google Workspace / Free Legacy G Suite account (which is tied to a company) with your Android TV, then you need to disable the Lock Screen policy. In this video tutorial, we will show you just how to do that.

https://youtu.be/pe3XpfLgW_s

Just in case you prefer a step-by-step guide, here are the steps with screenshots.

Step 1 : Log into Google Admin (https://admin.google.com/) for your Google Account.

Step 2 : Type “Universal Settings” in the search box at the top, and a list of relevant options will appear.

Step 3 : Click on Universal Settings. Alternatively, you can navigate manually using the menu on the left : Devices > Mobile and endpoints > Universal settings

Step 4 : In the Universal Settings page, click on General : Turn on device management and password controls to reveal the available general settings.

Step 5 : In the General section, you will see two options – Mobile management and Password requirements.

Either option will let you disable the Lock Screen requirement in Android devices. So you will need to select one of them.

I will share the two available methods as Option A and Option B below. Choose one.

Option A : Disable Mobile Management

By default, your account is set to Basic (Agentless) mobile management, which applies basic password controls (including requiring the Lock Screen).

Step 6A : Select Turn off mobile management (Unmanaged).

Step 7A : Click on Save to save the changes. The change generally happens instantaneously but can take a few minutes to propagate.

As turning off basic mobile management will deprive you of the ability to wipe work accounts, and remove compromised device protection, I would recommend you try Option B as the first resort, and keep Option A as a back up alternative.

Option B : Disable Password Requirements Recommended!

By default, your account is set to Require users to set a password, which has a basic requirement of “Any screenlock“.

Step 6B : Untick the Require users to set a password checkbox.

Step 7B : Click on Save to save the changes. The change generally happens instantaneously but can take a few minutes to propagate.

I personally recommend using this option, as it would leave you the ability to perform some basic mobile management of your devices.

Step 8 : While the change happens within seconds to minutes, you must remove your Google Account from your Android TV / Android TV box.

Step 9 : Log into Google Play Store using your Google Account again. It should now work properly, without asking you to register a Lock Screen.

Sony BRAVIA 4K HDR TVs Launched

On the 14th of April, Sony introduced their new BRAVIA 4K HDR TV series, with screen sizes of 55″ to 65″. The new Sony BRAVIA 4K HDR television series is designed to deliver a greater brightness range and higher contrast, making the best use of 4K HDR (High Dynamic Range) content with its unique backlighting technologies in a slim design.

Sony BRAVIA 4K HDR Experience With X93D & X85 Series

HDR is a burgeoning video standard that greatly expands the range of possible visual expression by reproducing higher brightness, higher contrast and more vibrant colors. HDR compatible content and services are expected to become more and more prevalent via Internet video services, TV broadcastings and Ultra HD Blu-ray titles.

The X93D series takes picture quality to new heights by delivering the best quality from HDR content. Sony’s new Slim Backlight Drive technology with a new grid-array backlighting structure, which was previously only available with full-array backlighting systems, allows X-tended Dynamic Range PRO technology to boost peak brightness and black levels more precisely and enhance contrast levels, while maintaining a slim form factor.

The 4K Processor X1 and its precision color mapping technology allows TRILUMINOS Display to reproduce a wider color range with accurate color details at any brightness level. The X1 also improves the streaming quality of 4K HDR images provided by Internet video services, such as Netflix. But the viewing experience goes beyond just the screen. A television should be great to look at in any environment.

When hung against a wall, the X93D series sits close to the wall and virtually disappears into it, leaving behind nothing but the picture itself. When the television is set on a TV rack or a cabinet, its clean cable management keeps wires out of view and looks equally elegant when viewed from behind.

This year, Sony is focusing on integrating BRAVIA TVs into the living room setting, with the notion of creating a smart living ecosystem that gives users the freedom to utilize a variety of Sony products with the TVs – by means of enhancing viewer experience.

The X93D and other 4K HDR TVs already bring stunning picture quality to whatever you’re watching but with the addition of these Sony products, ranging from digital cameras to audio systems, consumers and professionals are able to take their experiences to a whole new level – experiencing stunning still images and videos on a larger screen, thanks to sharper 4K HDR clarity, along with surround, sound enhancements to bring movies and music to life.

[adrotate banner=”4″]Some of the products that are compatible with the BRAVIA ecosystem include –
  • PMW-F55 CineAlta 4K Digital Cinema Camera
  • FDR-AXP55 4K Handycam® with Built-in projector
  • HT-ST9 & HT-NT5 Sound Bars
  • A7RM2 & A7SM2 Mirrorless Cameras
  • Xperia Z5 & Xperia Z5 Premium mobile phones

Each television series also runs on Android TV with Sony’s exclusive user interface. From live TV broadcasting to Internet video services, the seamless user interface Content Bar includes enhanced content navigation along with voice search.

That Dragon Cancer Game Proceeds To Go To Charities

IRVINE, Calif. – Razer™, a world leader in connected devices and software for gamers, today announced that all Razer’s proceeds from the sale of the game That Dragon, Cancer via Razer Cortex for Android TV will go to two cancer charities, Morgan Adams Foundation, which directly funds cancer research through working with physicians, and Family House SF, which provides free housing to families visiting hospitals in San Francisco to undergo prolonged clinical trials and treatment. The two organizations were selected due to their importance to the Green family.

That Dragon, Cancer is an immersive, narrative videogame that retells Joel Green’s 4-year fight against cancer through about two hours of poetic, imaginative gameplay that explores themes of faith, hope, and love. Using simple point-and-click interaction, the player is invited to slow down and immerse themselves in a deeply personal memoir featuring audio taken from Green family home videos, spoken word poetry, and in-game tributes to the loved ones of over 200 Kickstarter backers.

Joel Green was diagnosed with AT/RT brain cancer at twelve months old and was given a terminal diagnosis shortly before age two. Though initially given only a short time to live, Joel continued to survive for four more years before eventually succumbing to the cancer on March 13, 2014.

[adrotate banner=”4″]Developed by Joel’s parents Ryan and Amy Green, partner Josh Larson, and the rest of the Numinous Games studio, That Dragon, Cancer was largely funded by OUYA, which was acquired by Razer in July 2015 and now provides content for Android TV games via Razer’s Forge TV micro console. Upon its release, That Dragon, Cancer will mark OUYA’s first step into multi-platform game publishing as a promotional partner with Numinous Games for Forge TV as well as on Windows and Mac OS.

“When we first acquired OUYA, it was with the vision of bringing Android gaming to the living room,” says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO. “By doing that, we now have the opportunity to give back to the community in a big way, by bringing this game to the public and by making sure all our proceeds go right back into the fight against cancer.”

In celebration of the game’s launch, Numinous Games is encouraging supporters to host a pancake party for friends and family – pancakes were Joel’s favorite food – and post pictures to social media channels with the hashtag #thatdragoncancer. To show its solidarity with the developers, Razer will be hosting a “Pancakes for Lunch” party at its offices around the world and supporting other community parties with giveaways.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow & New Games For NVIDIA SHIELD

Written by Chris Daniel, NVIDIA

Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and new content are descending onto NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV. This week at CES 2016, in Las Vegas, we’re announcing new automotive and virtual reality technologies and partnerships. SHIELD continues to evolve, too, with a slew of new features, games and apps.

New NVIDIA SHIELD Upgrades

We’ve made a commitment to supporting the NVIDIA SHIELD family with frequent, meaningful software upgrades. We’re continuing to honor that pledge as Android 6.0 Marshmallow heads to SHIELD Android TV.

Among the biggest enhancements Marshmallow brings is Adoptable Storage, which helps you super-size your storage capabilities. When adding an SD card, USB drive or external hard drive, SHIELD Android TV can recognize the new storage as internal memory.

We’re also enhancing the startup process. So there are even fewer steps you need to take before launching your favorite apps, movies, music and games.

Additionally, recent updates allow SHIELD Android TV owners to take control of the Recommendation Row and edit the apps that can push suggested content. They can also re-order apps and games in the download section — or allow them to appear in most recent order in which you’ve used them.

We’ll continue to support SHIELD with industry-leading software upgrades.

New NVIDIA SHIELD Games

Konami’s acclaimed video game Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is coming to SHIELD; pushing the boundaries of graphics, style and lightning-speed gameplay on a media streaming device.

Starting this Thursday, Jan. 7, you can control the hero, Raiden, a former child soldier transformed into a half-man, half-machine cyborg ninja with a soul fueled by revenge.

A fantastic story set in the Metal Gear universe complements the hit game’s non-stop action. With cyborg technology now the norm, you’ll battle rival private military companies to subdue the war economy, stabilize regions, save lives and gain peace, all while leading a path for Raiden to resolve his troublesome past.

New NVIDIA Shield Apps

[adrotate banner=”4″]The Android TV ecosystem has blossomed since SHIELD Android TV launched last May, and recent additions to the app family further establish SHIELD as one of the leaders in the media streaming category.

UltraFlix, the world’s largest library of 4K content, is a streaming network that enables subscribers to choose from over 600 hours of pristine 4K Ultra HD video on demand. It joins a growing stable of media apps, including HBO NOW, HBO GO, Showtime and Twitch, among countless others.

There’s an infinite amount of content available at a moment’s notice and SHIELD continues to deliver it best at the highest resolutions.

And what better time than during CES to pass along an update.
