8th Gen Owl Wing Fan

The AMD Ryzen 4000 mobile APU is kept cool by the 8th Generation Lenovo Owl Wing Fan, which delivers 38% more airflow, for 15% better cooling performance.

On top of that, the Owl Wing Fan is designed to minimise dust accumulation, which means it will maintain its performance over years of use.

Smaller + Lighter

Compared to the last-generation, the 2020 ThinkPad E15 is smaller in size, and lighter in weight. But it still sports the same 15.6-inch display.

The difference is the smaller bezels – just 7.7 mm at the sides, giving it an 85% screen-to-body ratio.

AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile : Major Consumer Kick-Off In 2020!

The AMD Ryzen 4000 family of mobile processors was first unveiled at CES 2020, but its major roll-out got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To take on Intel’s considerable control of the laptop market, AMD prepared a formidable stack of 14 mobile processors – all with integrated Vega graphics.

To kick-off their 2020 assault on Intel’s mobile market stronghold, AMD lined up these laptops with their partners :

AMD SmartShift : A Special Mention!

AMD SmartShift is a new technology that gives the new AMD Ryzen 4000 mobile processors better performance – up to 10% in games, and 12% in content creation.

It is basically a smart power distribution technique that dynamically improves CPU or GPU performance with a limited power budget.

Acer today announced the 2020 Acer Swift 3 thin and light laptop, which is now available with AMD and Intel CPU options!

The 2020 Acer Swift 3 offers three AMD and Intel processor options :

The AMD Ryzen 5 4500U is from the recently-launched Ryzen 4000 mobile APU family, while the Intel processors are the latest Intel Ice Lake processors.

14-inch Full HD Display

The 2020 Acer Swift 3 comes with a 14-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Thanks to its narrow bezels, it has a 83.65% screen-to-body ratio, and a 10% smaller chassis!

Long Battery Life + Fast Charging

The 2020 Acer Swift 3 will last up to 11 hours with the Ryzen 5 processor option, and up to 16 hours with the Intel processor option.

At CES 2020, AMD announced their SmartShift technology that debuts in the Ryzen 4000 Mobile processors.

What is AMD SmartShift, and how does it work? Let’s find out!

 

AMD SmartShift : What Is It?

AMD SmartShift is a new technology that is being introduced with the new AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile processor family.

It can be simply described as a smart power distribution technique, to dynamically improve CPU or GPU performance with a limited power budget.

 

How Does AMD SmartShift Work?

In a typical laptop, the CPU and GPU each have their own pre-defined power budget.

The CPU and GPU will individually adjust their power consumption according to the load, using less power for a longer battery life, but never exceeding their power budget even when there is a need for more performance.

AMD SmartShift changes that by simply doing away with the pre-defined power budget, and using a shared power budget instead.

When you are running CPU-intensive tasks, it lets the Ryzen CPU take up more of the power budget, improving its performance.

But when you start up a game, AMD SmartShift lets the Radeon GPU take up more of the power budget, for better gaming performance.

Ultimately, SmartShift lets you squeeze out more performance from the CPU and GPU for a limited power budget.

 

The Performance Impact

According to AMD, SmartShift will deliver up to 10% better gaming performance, and up to 12% better content creation performance.

This was based on their internal tests using the AMD Ryzen 4800H mobile processor, coupled with the AMD Radeon RX 5600M GPU.

 

AMD SmartShift : How To Get It

AMD SmartShift is built into the new AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile processor family, but also requires the laptop to have a separate AMD Radeon Graphics GPU.

It also works only with the recently-launched AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition driver.
