Alienware Second Screen Concept : First Look!

Alienware demonstrated their Second Screen concept at CES 2020, as a showcase of what they are dreaming up for the future of PC gaming.

What is the Alienware Second Screen, and how useful can it be? Check it out and tell us what you think!

Alienware Second Screen Concept : First Look!

Alienware Second Screen is not a product or device, but a smartphone app. It is designed to offer you the ability to monitor your gaming laptop or PC using your smartphone as the “second screen”.

Competitive gamers who want the very best from their systems need to keep track on performance stats, just like how runners keep track of their heart rates, and race car drivers keep track of their RPM and oil temperature.

These are available through a separate PC application, which requires a switch to check stats. Even if it offers overlays with live data, that takes up space on the display and detracts from the game.

The Alienware Second Screen app would let you monitor those stats directly on your smartphone.

The Alienware Second Screen concept app currently supports :

  • Speed monitoring for CPU, GPU and RAM
  • Temperature monitoring for CPU and GPU

The team plans to add these features in the future :

  • Lighting controls
  • Overclocking, thermals, and other quick performance settings
  • Frames per second monitoring
  • In-game integrations (e.g. team kill count, maps, inventory)

Alienware Second Screen Concept : Price + Availability

The Alienware and Dell gaming teams are still working on the Second Screen app, so there is no word on both price and availability. Yes, it’s possible that Second Screen won’t be a free app.

That may be surprising because when it’s launched, Alienware Second Screen will support only Alienware and Dell G-Series gaming laptops and desktop PCs.

So tell us what you think about the Alienware Second Screen concept! Useful or meh?

Alienware Shows Off 2019 Area-51m with Legend Design!

Alienware just revealed the 2019 Area-51m with the new Legend Design – the most powerful and upgradable gaming laptop they ever created.

In this article, we will share with you the official 2019 Alienware Area-51m tech briefing, as well as its key features, price and availability. Check it out!

The 2019 Area-51m with Legend Design From Alienware

The reimagined 2019 Area-51m is Alienware’s most powerful, upgradeable gaming laptop. It is their first and only laptop with an 8-core 9th Gen Intel Core i9 desktop processor, the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics, 64 GB of memory, and 2.5 Gbps Ethernet technology.

All that is kept cool using cutting-edge thermal and cooling technology. Alienware promises it will deliver 50% more performance in a 32% smaller form factor than its predecessor. Yet, it still comes with a 17-inch narrow bezel display with a 144 Hz refresh rate.

If that is not enough, its power desktop processor and graphics are upgradeable when newer and better processors and graphics are introduced.

Like the previous generation Area-51m, the new 2019 Area-51m comes with Tobii eye-tracking technology and the latest Alienware Command Center.

Alienware Legend Design

The new Alienware Legend design takes cues from sci-fi culture and early industrial designs.

It features improved AlienFX lighting, ultra-thin screen borders, and a new “three-knuckle hinge” design. The new hinge design reduces overall dimensions, while creating a stronger assembly.

Internally, Alienware laptops with the new Legend design are optimised with cutting-edge thermal and cooling technology to ensure sustained overclocking capability.

2019 Area-51m Price + Availability

The 2019 Area-51m with Legend design will introduce two optional finishes – Lunar Light and Dark Side of the Moon.

It will be available in the US, starting 29 January 2019, with a starting price of $2,549.

It will arrive in Malaysia, some time at the end of February 2019. Its local price is yet unknown. We will update the article, as and when we receive new information from Dell.

2018 Dell State Of Gaming Report

An extensive survey of 5,763 video game players in 11 countries, commissioned by Dell, revealed that today’s gamers are quite diverse; from a coworker with two kids, to the woman next to you at the gym, or, most commonly, a spouse, sibling or friend.

Through online platforms and social media, and fueled by the popularity of esports, the gaming community is ever-expanding while also growing in diversity and inclusiveness.

Gone are the days that being called a “gamer” is derogatory. According to those surveyed, fewer than one in 10 feel either “judged,” “childish” or “embarrassed” being called a “gamer” (8-9% each).

[adrotate group=”2″]

Instead, they consider “gamer” a positive label and feel “fun” (35%), “cool” (29%), or “excited” (26%) as a result. While some gamers are willing to self-sacrifice to continue gaming, the majority are well-rounded with interests in music, sports, traveling and socialising.

The gaming community has also become less of a “boy’s club,” with only 14% of gamers globally concerned about the gender of their rivals.

In general, gamers are welcoming to whomever is behind the computer. When it comes to being matched with rival gamers, culture/ethnicity (8%), political views (7%), and sexual orientation (6%) are for the most part inconsequential to a player. What matters most is the other gamer’s skill level (40%).

Dell was not able to bring in the new Aurora R7, so they set-up the previous-generation Aurora gaming desktop for us to check out. The only difference between the Aurora R6 and the new Aurora R7 is the processor upgrade to the 8th Generation Intel Core processor.

The Aurora is Alienware’s smallest dual-graphics mid-tower desktop. Despite its svelte form factor, it can support CPU water cooling and overclocking, as well as two full-sized graphics cards. It also features customisable AlienFX lighting, and a steel-reinforced magnesium-alloy chassis with tool-less access for easy upgrades.

Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming

This new gaming notebook features dedicated forward and rearward thermal outlets concealing heat exchangers connected to dual cooling fans with high-efficiency blades. Alienware 13 OLED & More @ Computex 2016

After Dell launched the world’s largest 2-in-1 laptop, the Dell Inspiron 17 7000, we had the opportunity to check out some of their latest Alienware products. Some of them, we have seen earlier. Some of them are brand new. We didn’t have much time, but we recorded three videos for you to check out.

Alienware 13 OLED

The Alienware 13 OLED is the world’s first gaming notebook to feature an OLED display panel. This not only gives you a much higher contrast ratio of 100,000:1, it also gives you a wider colour gamut – 104% of sRGB. But gamers will probably be more interested in its much faster response time of just 1-2 ms.

Despite its petite size, the Alienware 13 OLED is powered by the 6th Generation Intel Core i7 processor with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M graphics processor. The OLED display has a resolution of 2560 x 1440, lower than the non-OLED resolution of 3200 x 1800 in the previous Alienware 13.

Alienware X51 R3

This is the third revision of the Alienware X51. Reengineered with the 6th Generation Intel Core processors and a new selection of AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards, the Alienware X51 R3 comes with a liquid cooling option, and Oculus Rift-ready configurations.

Alienware Area 51 R2 With HTC Vive

There is nothing new with the Alienware Area 51 at Computex 2016. In fact, this is the second revision from 2015, running on the 5th Generation Intel Core K processors. However, it was being used to power a HTC Vive headset, and since they opened it up for viewing, we thought – what the heck, let’s just record a video!

NVIDIA GeForce GTX VR Ready Programme Announced

Jan. 5, 2015—NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) today unveiled the GeForce GTX VR Ready programme to help gamers navigate their way to great virtual reality experiences.

The company has partnered with PC and notebook makers and add-in card providers to deliver “GeForce® GTX® VR Ready” systems and graphics cards that deliver an immersive VR gaming experience. The programme minimises confusion regarding which equipment is necessary to play the range of VR games and applications increasingly coming to market.

Delivering a great VR experience demands seven times the graphics processing power of traditional 3D games and applications – driving framerates above 90 frames per second (fps) for two simultaneous images (one for each eye).

“For customers, navigating an emerging technology like VR can be daunting,” said Jason Paul, general manager of emerging technologies at NVIDIA. “We’re working with trusted partners worldwide to simplify the buying process with a GeForce GTX VR Ready badge that will let customers quickly identify PCs or add-in cards that are capable of handling the demands of VR.”

NVIDIA® GPUs are at the heart of the VR ecosystem and are powered by the award-winning NVIDIA Maxwell™ graphics architecture, which was created with VR in mind. In addition to powering fast framerates, it includes unique VR features, such as support for NVIDIA Multi-Res Shading, which boosts performance by up to 50 percent while maintaining image quality and reducing latency.

NVIDIA provides the fastest performance and lowest latency for VR experiences through a combination of its Maxwell-class GTX GPUs, NVIDIA Game Ready Drivers and its software tools for developers, NVIDIA GameWorks™ VR and NVIDIA DesignWorks™ VR.

VR Ready Support From PC Builders

The world’s leading PC vendors are participating in the GeForce GTX VR Ready programme.

“As trailblazers in gaming and graphics, Alienware and NVIDIA are committed to providing great turnkey VR experiences. The programme will guide customers to the products that will delight them. Maxwell-based GPUs are a great match for VR experiences, and cards like the GeForce GTX 970 help Alienware PCs set the industry standard.” — Frank Azor, general manager, Alienware

“NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX VR Ready programme makes VR easy and enjoyable. NVIDIA is helping to lead the industry forward. Its Maxwell-powered graphics cards provide the horsepower and low latency needed for VR. And its GameWorks VR platform provides developers the necessary tools to create the next bestselling VR game of the future.” — Wallace Santos, CEO and founder, MAINGEAR

“VR has traditionally been reserved for desktops, but NVIDIA has given notebooks such as the MSI GT72 Dominator and GT80 Titan with GeForce GTX 980 the necessary punch to bring virtual experiences to life while on the go. NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX VR Ready badge makes identifying VR capable machines easy and guarantees a fantastic and immersive gaming experience.” — Andy Tung, president of MSI Pan America, MSI
