Acronis Cyber Penthouse with Williams F1 Racing Team!

As the Williams F1 Racing Team gears up for the Singapore F1 Grand Prix, they joined Acronis CEO and Founder Serguei Beloussov in the grand opening of the new Acronis Cyber Penthouse!

In the exclusive invitation-only event, we got up close and personal with Serguei Beloussov, Williams F1 CIO Graeme Hackland… and of course, the Williams F1 drivers – Robert Kubica and George Russell!

The Acronis Cyber Penthouse

Located at the very top of Suntec Tower 3, the Acronis Cyber Penthouse is (aptly for a data protection company) accessible only through two security layers, including a special lift.

This is because the Cyber Penthouse is where Acronis engineers work. In his keynote, Acronis CEO and Founder Serguei Beloussov pointed out that they get the best offices, even better than his own office!

Serguei also shared that Acronis just won a new round of investment worth US$ 147 million, led by Goldman Sachs. The funds would be used to acquire companies and expand the Acronis R&D team, as well as to grow their business in North America.

Graeme Hackland on the Williams F1 + Acronis Partnership

Williams F1 Racing Team CIO Graeme Hackland spoke about the importance of data collection to the team’s performance, and how much data they now collect.

He also revealed that the team was hit by two ransomware attacks in 2014, losing data to one of them. Hence, they turned to Acronis to protect their data.

Acronis now protects all of their mailboxes, more than 200 of their servers, and over 650 team workstations. Deploying Acronis Backup has also cut down their backup window from days to just minutes.

Acronis Launches Cyber Penthouse With Williams F1 + Infocomm

Acronis then formally launched their Cyber Penthouse with CEO and Founder Serguei Beloussov, and Williams F1 CIO Graeme Hackland, as well as Howie Lau, the Chief Industry Development Officer of Infocomm Media Development Authority.

Robert Kubica + George Russell Face Off In The Läderach Chocolate Challenge!

Williams F1 drivers, Robert Kubica and George Russell, who popped over for the launch, sportingly agreed to a friendly contest using Läderach chocolate!

It sure was great to catch these guys in a carefree, fun moment away from the Grand Prix races.

Unfortunately, I never got the chance to get some photos with them. But I scored this neat wheel nut signed by both of them instead!

Acronis Cyber Platform APIs Are Finally Open After 16 Years!

Great news for developers and software companies! The Acronis Cyber Platform APIs are finally open after 16 years!

Here is a primer on what it means for software developers and users worldwide.

Who Is Acronis?

Acronis was spun-off SWsoft in 2001, with a focus on backup and data protection software and services. They have since launched anti-ransomware solutions, helping to blunt the highly-debilitating threat.

Last year, Acronis claimed to have stopped over 400,000 ransomware attacks, which they estimated to be worth more than $208 million in damages. That’s an average of $522 per attack!

Acronis Cyber Platform APIs Goes Open

Like many software companies, Acronis derives some revenue from providing access to their APIs. Even their partners would require special permission and fees to connect their software to the Acronis Cyber Platform.

After 16 years of doing this, Acronis has finally realised that it would benefit them more to open up their APIs.

By opening up their APIs, Acronis hopes to encourage more software companies to integrate their software with the Acronis Cyber Platform, instead of a competing, rival platform.

Opening Up Will Expand The Acronis Cyber Platform

Acronis claims they are taking a chance on the company’s future by opening up their APIs. But the days of milking proprietary APIs for revenue is fast vanishing, especially when it comes to cybersecurity companies.

Acronis may boast 5 million end users, and nearly 50,000 channel partners, but that may erode as their competitors offer easier and cheaper (if not FREE) ways for ISVs, OEMS and service providers to integrate their software.

The decision to open up the APIs should make the Acronis Cyber Platform more attractive, and expand the platform’s reach.

An Evening With Scuderia Toro Rosso & Acronis

On the cusp of the last Malaysian F1 Grand Prix, we were invited to an evening with Scuderia Toro Rosso and Acronis. It was an opportunity for them to present Acronis Access Advanced 8.0 – an enterprise file sync and share solution that is used to share sensitive data with remote devices.

Scuderia Toro Rosso & Acronis

Acronis is no stranger to the automotive industry. In fact, 30% of their new enterprise customers are automative companies. Hence, it is no surprise that they chose to sponsor Scuderia Toro Rosso since August 2016. Not only does this give them greater exposure in the automotive industry, it helps them to entrench their expertise in this field.

Formula One teams like Scuderia Toro Rosso produces hundreds of gigabytes of data every race weekend, because each car has hundreds of sensors. The data they relay provide real-time information that is immediately analysed to improve performance. All of the data collected is then transmitted to their base in Faenza, Italy, where they are used to create a better car, or a better strategy for the next race.

Acronis protects all that sensitive data with their hybrid cloud data protection solutions, including the new Acronis Access Advanced 8.0. They use Acronis Access Advanced, specifically, to share confidential telemetry data and R&D documents between their Faenza base, trackside engineers and subcontractors.

With Acronis Access Advanced, we’re in full control of our data. We can track the information path and even remote-wipe a laptop, tablet or mobile device if it is lost or stolen to prevent a competitor from accessing the data. Our plan is to share sensitive data that way,” said Raffaele Boschetti, Scuderia Toro Rosso Head of IT.

Acronis took the opportunity to report that in the last year, their business grew by 25% for Acronis Backup, 20% for Acronis True Image, 100% for Acronis Backup Cloud and 200% for Acronis Access Advanced.

The Scuderia Toro Rosso Interview

This interview happened right after the sudden replacement of Daniil Kvyat by Pierre Gasly for a multi-race evaluation, starting with the final Malaysian F1 Grand Prix race. So this is literally the first interview of team principal, Franz Tost, with Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly.

Speed Painting With Haze Long!

In the spirit of the F1 race coming up, Acronis organised a speed painting session. Carlos and Pierre were invited to paint the Sepang circuit in 1 minute 34 seconds.

Then Malaysian speed painter Haze Long demonstrated her speed painting skills. Check it out!
