Did US soldiers ambush and kill FEMA agents in Florida?! Take a look at the viral claim, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : US soldiers ambushed + killed FEMA agents in Florida!

Real Raw News posted an article (archive) which claimed that US soldiers ambushed and killed FEMA agents in Florida!

As usual, the article is (intentionally?) rambling and confusing, so here is an excerpt. Please feel free to skip to the next section for the facts!

Truth : US soldiers did not ambush or kill FEMA agents in Florida!

The truth is – this is just another fake story created by Real Raw News, and here are the reasons why…

US soldiers did not shoot or kill FEMA agents

This may seem silly, but let me just point out that US Army soldiers did not shoot or kill FEMA agents.

If that actually happened, such a shocking event would have been reported widely all over the world. It would also have sparked great outrage on social media, and a military response.

Yet, there is not a single report by any reputable media outlet, never mind wall-to-wall coverage. No surge of troops into Florida to quell the violence. Not even outrage on social media. That’s because it was all made up!

That said – it is possible that some people may actually believe that FEMA is trying to take over their property, and such fake news may result in violence against FEMA agents trying to help people. Especially when Real Raw News keeps posting stories about FEMA and FBI agents getting killed by US soldiers!

US military cannot deploy within the US

It is really silly for anyone to claim that US Army soldiers were sent to shoot at agents from another government agency.

The Posse Comitatus Act prevents federal military personnel from being deployed within the United States, except when expressly authorised by the Constitution, or an Act of Congress.

Generally, only the President of the United States can order the deployment of US federal military personnel and federalised National Guard troops within the United States using the Insurrection Act of 1807.

If a rogue US Army unit is indeed shooting and killing FEMA agents, then President Joe Biden might order US military units in Florida to take them out. But US military leaders by themselves cannot order such a deployment.

Did US Marines shoot FEMA + FBI agents in North Carolina?!

Did US Marines really shoot and kill FEMA and FBI agents in North Carolina?! Take a look at the viral claim, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : US Marines shot FEMA + FBI agents in North Carolina!

Real Raw News is claiming (archive | archive | archive) that US Marines have shot and killed FEMA + FBI agents in North Carolina:

Full story shortly. White Hats and Red Hats have temporarily joined forces to fight FEMA/FBI agents in Chimney Rock, NC.

We have spoken to a Marine sniper who reportedly now has 5 confirmed FEMA kills in North Carolina. He has told us “it’s the fight of our lives”

White Hats/Red Hats late last night engaged FEMA personel at the Greenville, SC, airport, where they saw FEMA escorting blindfolded children onto a twin turboprop plane. More soon.

These claims are also based on its article (archive) which claimed that US Marines and Special Forces ambushed and killed FEMA and FBI agents in Ashville and Chimney Rock in North Carolina!

Will FEMA seize property if you don’t repay $750 assistance?!

Will FEMA seize your property if you fail to repay the $750 assistance that is really a loan?! Take a look at the viral claim, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : FEMA will seize your property if you don’t repay $750 assistance!

Some people are claiming or suggesting that the $750 Serious Needs Assistance is really a loan, and FEMA will seize your property if you fail to repay it!

Philip Anderson : 🚨BREAKING: Hurricane victims are now realizing that the $750 from FEMA that Kamala Harris is offering them is actually a loan, not real relief. And that if they don’t pay it back the feds can seize their property. These people don’t even have property anymore because of the hurricane.

Some have also posted videos, many purportedly claiming that a FEMA inspector is warning people against taking the $750 from FEMA, because their property may be seized!

Jack Straw : Shocking… a scam, $750 is a trap.

Recommended : Did Kamala Harris fake photo with her long-dead grandmother?!

Truth : FEMA will not seize your property if you don’t repay $750 assistance!

This appears to be yet another example of fake news created about FEMA, and here are the reasons why…

$750 FEMA assistance does not need to be repaid

Let me start by pointing out that the $750 FEMA assistance is called the Serious Needs Assistance. The $750 is a one-time payment per household that is given by FEMA, and does not need to be repaid.

FEMA issues this payment to disaster survivors who apply within the first 30 days after a disaster is declared in the area, and is meant as initial and immediate assistance to help survivors cover “essential items like food, water, baby formula, breastfeeding supplies, medication and other emergency supplies“.

To be clear – FEMA will not be asking you to repay the $750 one-time immediate assistance payment, and obviously, it is not going to seize your property!

FEMA refuted claims $750 needs to be repaid

FEMA had earlier addressed the misinformation on 30 September 2024:

Myth: FEMA grant money is a loan that I will need to pay back.

Fact: FEMA disaster assistance are grants which do not need to be repaid.

But when the claims went viral, FEMA spokesperson Jaclyn Rothenberg refuted those claims, stating clearly that Hurricane Helene victims do not need to repay the $750 assistance.

This is not true. We do not ask for this money back.

So you have to wonder – what kind of person would mislead disaster victims so they won’t accept this free $750 assistance that they desperately need???

Recommended : Did Kamala Harris paralyse girl in 2011 hit-and-run accident?!

FEMA immediate assistance was $500 under Trump

This one-time payment by FEMA isn’t new. In fact, the Serious Needs Assistance was also issued under the Trump Administration, albeit at a lower sum of $500 per household.

After Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and Louisiana in August 2017, FEMA issued one-time payments of $500 to cover “critical needs” like diapers, infant formula, food and fuel (source | source).

If the same FEMA assistance was a payment that does not need to be repaid under the Trump Administration, why would anyone suggest that it is now a loan under the Biden Administration that must be repaid within a year???

You only need to repay FEMA for an advance on insurance settlement

Some people are sharing a screenshot (example), as “evidence” that you need to repay the $750. That’s simply not true.

That is actually a screenshot of a FEMA article (archive), which explained that FEMA grants “do not have to be paid back” in most cases.

The portion highlighted as “evidence” actually refers to an advance on insurance money that some disaster victims may request from FEMA if their insurance claims are delayed. Obviously, such an advance will need to be repaid when the victims receive their insurance settlement!

Does help from FEMA have to be paid back?

No. In most cases, FEMA grants do not have to be paid back. If you have insurance that covers your temporary housing costs, but ask FEMA to advance you some money to help you pay for those costs while your insurance is delayed, you will need to pay that money back to FEMA after your receive your insurance settlement.

Kamala Harris forgot to plug in her earphones in staged photo?!

Did Kamala Harris forget to plug in her earphones in a staged photo?! Take a look at the viral claims, and find out what the facts really are!

Claim : Kamala Harris forgot to plug in her earphones in staged photo!

On 29 September 2024, Kamala Harris’ office released a photo of the Vice President being briefed by FEMA on Hurricane Helene, which the statement:

I was just briefed by @FEMA_Deanne Criswell on the latest developments about the ongoing impacts of Hurricane Helene. We also discussed our Administration’s continued actions to support emergency response and recovery.

I also spoke with @NC_Governor Cooper about the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts in North Carolina.

Our Administration will continue to stay in constant contact with state and local officials to ensure communities have the support and resources they need.

Doug and my thoughts are with all those who lost loved ones and those whose homes, businesses, and communities were damaged or destroyed during this disaster.

Some people quickly claimed or suggested that she staged / faked the photo, and forgot to plug in her earphones!

Donald J. Trump : Another FAKE and STAGED photo from someone who has no clue what she is doing. You have to plug the cord into the phone for it to work! Biden and Harris abandoned Americans in Afghanistan. They sacrificed Americans to an Open Border, and now, they have left Americans to drown in North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and elsewhere in the South. Under this Administration, Americans always come last, because we have “leaders” who have no idea how to lead!

Truth : Kamala Harris did not forget to plug in her earphones in staged photo!

This appears to be yet another example of fake news created about Kamala Harris, and here are the reasons why…

Apple removed iPhone audio port in 2016

First, let me just point out that Apple removed the audio port from the iPhone, with the release of iPhone 7 in September 2016 – 8 years ago.

The phone on the table appears to have an action button, and is either an iPhone 15 or an iPhone 16 – both of which lack any audio port to plug in a pair of wired earphones.

If Kamala Harris was using that iPhone to speak to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, she would either use a USB Type C to 3.5 mm dongle to connect to her wired earphones, or used it in speaker mode.

There was no wire connected to the phone

Some fact checkers have countered, claiming that the white earphone cable was connected to the phone. That’s not possible, as the iPhone 15/16 does not have an audio port – as I pointed out above.

The white “cable” is actually reflected light off the aluminium frame of the table, which has an elevated lip to prevent items from sliding off.

Recommended : Did Kamala Harris fake photo with her long-dead grandmother?!

Kamala Harris is likely using a different phone

Kamala Harris is likely using a second, different phone, because she has been observed using wired earphones with a black rectangular phone (example), and the earphones connected to its bottom left.

That rules out any iPhone (even with a USB dongle). It would almost certainly be an Android smartphone with a 3.5 mm audio port on the lower left side, likely the Samsung Galaxy A52, or the Nokia G60. It is also possible, even likely, that she’s using a custom-designed phone for secure communications.

In any case, if she was listening to Deanne Criswell on her wired earphones, the phone they are connected to is not visible in that photo, and is most likely on her lap, or perhaps even in her pocket.

Papers on table were likely blurred or edited

Kamala Harris was also mocked for apparently writing nothing on a blank piece of paper. However, it is likely that the photo was edited to blur or remove all visible text on the papers.

If you look closely at the photo, you will notice that the paper in the foreground and even the paper napkin was blurred out. This was likely done for PR / security reasons.

After all, who can forget the staged October 2020 photo op at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, in which then President Donald Trump was caught signing his name on a piece of blank paper with a marker pen.

This is just political fake news

Ultimately, this is yet another example of political fake news surrounding the upcoming 2024 US Presidential election. Here are some other examples I fact checked recently:

As the 2024 US Presidential election draws close, you can expect more of such fake news to appear, so be wary and skeptical!
