Smart Access Memory : How Does It Boost Ryzen 3000 Performance?
Smart Access Memory is AMD’s marketing term for their implementation of the PCI Express Resizable BAR (Base Address Registers) capability.
What does that mean exactly?
CPUs are traditionally limited to a 256 MB I/O memory address region for the GPU frame buffer. This of it as an “data dump” for stuff like textures, shaders and geometry.
Since this “data dump” is limited to 256 MB, the CPU can only send texture, shader and geometry data as and when the GPU requires them.
This introduces some latency – delay from when the GPU requires the data, and the CPU send them.
Turning on Resizable BAR or Smart Access Memory greatly expands the size of that data dump, letting the CPU directly access the GPU’s entire frame buffer memory.
Instead of transferring data when requested by the GPU, the CPU processes and stores the data directly in the graphics memory.
Graphics assets can be transferred to graphics memory in full, instead of in pieces. In addition, multiple transfers can occur simultaneously, instead of being queued up.
While this AMD graphic above suggests that Smart Access Memory will widen the memory path (and thus memory bandwidth) between the CPU and GPU, that is not true.
Smart Access Memory / Resizable BAR will not increase memory bandwidth.
What it does is let the CPU directly access the entire GPU frame buffer memory, instead of using the usual 256 MB “dump”. That reduces latency because the graphics assets are now accessible by the GPU at all times.

On the heels of the Ryzen 3000 XT series, AMD just unveiled the Ryzen 4000 G-Series with Radeon Graphics!
Here is what you need to know about the new AMD Ryzen 4000 G-Series desktop APUs!
AMD Ryzen 4000 G-Series with Radeon Graphics Desktop APUs
Unlike the recently released Ryzen 3000 XT series, the Ryzen 4000 G-Series come with integrated Radeon Graphics cores. That makes them APUs, instead of pure processors.
While these new desktop APUs are called the 4000 series, they are still part of the 3rd Gen Ryzen processor family, and based on the AMD Zen 2 architecture.
At launch, AMD is introducing six Ryzen 4000 G-Series processors, three with a 65W TDP :
AMD Ryzen 7 4700G : 8C/16T | up to 4.4 GHz | 12 MB cache | 8 graphics cores
AMD Ryzen 5 4600G : 6C/12T | up to 4.2 GHz | 11 MB cache | 7 graphics cores
AMD Ryzen 3 4300G : 4C/8T | up to 4.0 GHz | 6 MB cache | 6 graphics cores
And three desktop APUs with a 35W TDP :
AMD Ryzen 7 4700GE : 8C/16T | up to 4.3 GHz | 12 MB cache | 8 graphics cores

AMD Ryzen XT : Our First Impressions
To be honest, the AMD Ryzen XT processors don’t really excite us that much, and here’s why…
AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT
The Ryzen 9 3900XT has a slightly faster boost clock and loses its bundled cooler. Yet it costs $50 more than the Ryzen 9 3900X.
It would be better to stick with the cheaper Ryzen 9 3900 – you won’t notice the difference. And in case it’s not “fast enough” (seriously?), you can just overclock it.
AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT
This is the second-best Ryzen XT model of the trio, offering a 200 MHz faster boost clock than the Ryzen 7 3800X at the same price point.
You are basically trading the bundled Wraith Prism RGB cooler for a 200 MHz faster boost clock.
Frankly, unless you are planning to use water cooling, it might be a better idea to just buy the Ryzen 7 3800X and overclock using its Wraith Prism RGB cooler.
AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT
This is really the best Ryzen XT model, offering a slightly faster boost clock with a better Wraith Spire cooler, at the same price as the Ryzen 5 3600X.
That makes the Ryzen 5 3600X completely pointless. We wouldn’t be surprised if AMD drops price on the Ryzen 5 3600X, or removes it from the line-up.
AMD Ryzen XT : Free Game Changes Dynamics!
AMD’s surprise announcement that they will bundle a free copy of the upcoming AAA game – Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – changed everything.
If you are a gamer planning to buy this game, then it’s a great deal, because the game costs US$59.99 / £49.99 / RM 189.99!
Unfortunately, the Ryzen 5 3600XT does NOT qualify for the free game… 🙁

AMD just announced that they FAR exceeded the goals of the 25×20 initiative they set in 2014.
Join us for a quick video overview of the AMD 25×20 Initiative, and how far they exceeded those goals!
AMD 25×20 Initiative : What Is It?
Back in 2014, AMD mobile APUs were widely panned for their poor energy efficiency. That ensured the continued dominance of Intel mobile processors in the laptop market.
So they challenged themselves to dramatically improve the real-world energy efficiency of their mobile processors, setting the moonshot goal of delivering at least 25 times better energy efficiency by the year 2020.
That is essentially the crux of the AMD 25×20 initiative.
AMD 25×20 Initiative : Goals FAR Exceeded!
Six years later, AMD announced that they far exceeded the goals of their 25×20 initiative.
With the introduction of their 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen 4000 series of mobile APUs (codenamed Renoir), they actually delivered 31.7X more energy efficiency!
AMD achieved their 25×20 goals by delivering :
New CPU and GPU architectures tightly integrated into a common SoC
New innovations in real-time power management
Continued evolution of the AMD Infinity Fabric architecture
Silicon-level power optimizations
Rapid adoption of the latest process technologies (28nm > 14nm > 12nm > 7nm)
AMD 25×20 Initiative : The Impact
To illustrate the impact of this leap in energy efficiency, AMD shared these calculations.
If an enterprise upgrades 50,000 AMD laptops from 2014 models to 2020 models, it would save approximately 1.4 million kilowatt hours of electricity and 971,000 kg of carbon emissions,
That would be roughly equivalent to growing 16,000 trees for 10 years!

To take on Intel’s considerable control of the laptop market, AMD prepared a formidable stack of 14 mobile processors – all with integrated Vega graphics.
To kick-off their 2020 assault on Intel’s mobile market stronghold, AMD lined up these laptops with their partners :
AMD SmartShift is a new technology that gives the new AMD Ryzen 4000 mobile processors better performance – up to 10% in games, and 12% in content creation.
It is basically a smart power distribution technique that dynamically improves CPU or GPU performance with a limited power budget.
Unfortunately, it’s not launching in all Ryzen 4000 laptops, only the Dell G5 15 SE at this time. So if you want to take advantage of this new AMD technology, we highly recommend you check out the Dell G5 15 SE.

The AMD Ryzen 3 3300X is more than just a slightly amped version of the Ryzen 3 3100. And it is quite the bargain at $120!
Find out why we gave this new AMD Ryzen 3 processor our Editor’s Choice Award!
AMD Ryzen 3 3300X : Official Tech Briefing
Let’s start with the official AMD Ryzen 3 3300X tech briefing by AMD Ryzen Product Marketing Manager, Erin Maiorino.
AMD Ryzen 3 3300X : Key Features
The AMD Ryzen 3 3300X is a quad-core processor, with a 3.8 GHz base clock, and a 4.3 GHz boost clock.
It supports SMT (simultaneous multi-threading), and can therefore handle up to 8 threads at the same time.
New Chiplet Design
Unlike the previous Zen and Zen+ microarchitectures, Zen 2 uses a chiplet design that combines separate CPU chiplets with an I/O chiplet, using Infinity Fabric to connect them.
This chiplet design allows the performance-critical CPU chiplet to be fabricated on the 7 nm TSMC process, while the I/O functions are fabricated on the less expensive 12 nm GlobalFoundries process.
The new I/O chiplet adds PCIe 4.0 support, offering 24 lanes that can be increased to 40 lanes, when paired with the new AMD X570 motherboard.
4+0 CCX Configuration
Unlike the Ryzen 3 3100, the Ryzen 3 3300X uses a 4+0 CCX configuration. That means it uses a single CCX (Core Complex).
Its four cores directly communicate with each other, and share the same 16 MB L3 cache, allowing it to deliver better performance with lower latencies, than the Ryzen 3 3100.
TDP + Bundled Cooler
The AMD Ryzen 3 3300X has a 65 watt TDP, which can be reduced to 45 watts using Ryzen Eco Mode. And it comes bundled with the Wraith Stealth cooler.
Socket AM4
The AMD Ryzen 3 3300X continues to use the AMD AM4 socket, and is backward compatible with AMD 400 Series motherboards, as well as the new X570 and B550 chipsets.

AMD Ryzen 3 3100 : 3D Rendering Speed
CINEBENCH R20 is a real-world 3D rendering benchmark based on the MAXON Cinema 4D animation software.
It is a great way to accurately determine the actual performance of a processor in 3D content creation.
CINEBENCH R20 Single Core Performance
This Single Core test is not reflective of real world performance, but it is useful to find out the performance of the individual core.
Will you look at that? The AMD Ryzen 3 3300X is actually 9.6% faster than the Intel Core i7-8700K, and 18.7% faster than the Ryzen 7 2700X in single-core performance!
CINEBENCH R20 Multi Core Performance
The Multi Core test shows the processor’s real-world 3D rendering performance.
Of course, the 3300X is still a quad-core processor, which means it will not perform as fast as 6-core processors, or 8-core processors.
Even so, it was actually as fast as the Ryzen 5 1600X (6 cores), and 72% as fast as the Ryzen 7 1800X (8 cores).
Multi-Threading Boost
This is not a CINEBENCH benchmark result. The Multi-Threading Boost is our calculation of the performance boost that the processor’s Multi-Threading capability provides.
While it may appear that the Ryzen 3 3300X has superior SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading) capabilities to the Intel Core i7-8700K, this is due to the fact that all four cores are in the same CCD (Core Chipset Die).
And it appears to have lower MT boost than the Ryzen 3 3100 because of its significantly better single-core performance.
AMD Ryzen 3 3300X Video Transcoding Speed
HandBrake is a free, open-source video transcoding utility, which converts a video file from one resolution / format to another.
As you can imagine, it’s very compute-intensive, which makes it a great benchmark for multi-core processors. In our test, we converted a 4K video of 1.3 GB in size into a 1080p video (HQ1080p30).
Despite having only four cores, the Ryzen 3 3300X was 89% as fast as the Ryzen 5 1600X (6 cores), and 75% as fast as the Ryzen 7 1800X (8 cores).
In other words, it was 30% to 45% more efficient per core, than both first-gen Ryzen processors.
AMD Ryzen 3 3300X Radial Blur Speed
The radial blur filter adds the perception of motion to a picture. This is a compute-intensive operation that benefits from multiple processing cores.
This radial blur test was performed on Photoshop CC 14 using a single 13.5 megapixel photo, with a filesize of 4,910,867 bytes.
Despite being a quad-core processor, the AMD Ryzen 3 3300X actually beat the Ryzen 5 1600X, a 6-core processor!

Synthetic Game Test – 3DMark
We used 3DMark’s Time Spy and Time Spy Extreme synthetic benchmarks, which supports DirectX 12, and the latest features like asynchronous compute, and multi-threading support.
Time Spy – 2560 x 1440
The AMD Ryzen 3 3300X was 7% faster than the Ryzen 3 3100, and just 14% slower than the Ryzen 5 1600X.
Of course, the CPU only has a slight influence on a game’s performance, so its effect on the overall gaming score is less significant.
F1 2019 is a relatively recent racing game by Codemasters, released on 28 June 2019.
We tested it on three resolutions at the Ultra High settings :
1080p : 1920 x 1080
1440p : 2560 x 1440
1080p Gaming Resolution
Will you look at that! This is why the number of CPU cores don’t really matter when it comes to games.
The cheap Ryzen 3 3300X delivered average frame rates on par with the 8-core Ryzen 7 2700X!
1440p Gaming Resolution
At the higher 1440p resolution, the importance of CPU performance was greatly reduced. It didn’t matter which processor you used – they all delivered about the same frame rates.
If you like our work, you can help support our work by visiting our sponsors, participating in the Tech ARP Forums, or even donating to our fund. Any help you can render is greatly appreciated!
World War Z
Based on the 2013 movie, World War Z is a relatively recent third-person shooter game, released in April 2019.
We tested it on three resolutions using the Vulkan API at the High settings :
1080p : 1920 x 1080
1440p : 2560 x 1440
1080p Gaming Resolution
At 1080p, the AMD Ryzen 3 3300X performed as well as the 8-core Ryzen 7 2700X, and was 14.6% better than the Ryzen 3 3100.
1440p Gaming Resolution
When we bumped the resolution up to 1440p though, it really didn’t matter that much which processor you used.
Ashes of the Singularity
Ashes of the Singularity is a 2016 game that supports multi-core processing and asynchronous compute.
In this game, the single core CPU performance has a significant effect on the actual frame rate.
We tested it on three resolutions using the DirectX 12 API at the High settings :
1080p : 1920 x 1080
1440p : 2560 x 1440
1080p Gaming Resolution
This showcases the importance of the Ryzen 3 3300X’s greatly-improved single-core performance. It actually delivered 23% and 24% better frame rates than the Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 5 2600X processors!
1440p Gaming Resolution
At the higher 1440p resolution, the Ryzen 3 3300X was 20% and 28% faster than the Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 5 2600X processors!
AMD Ryzen 3 3300X : Our Verdict + Award!
Built around the Zen 2 microarchitecture, the AMD Ryzen 3 3300X uses a chiplet design which combines 7 nm and 12 nm parts to deliver a more powerful, and power-efficient processor at a great price point.
The end result is significantly better single-core and multi-core performance over previous generation Ryzen processors.
Overall, the AMD Ryzen 3 3300X is roughly equivalent to the Ryzen 5 1600X, a first-gen 6-core Ryzen processor. In some benchmarks, it is perhaps 10% slower, and yet it is equal or faster in other benchmarks.
At first glance, the AMD Ryzen 3 3300X may seem to be an amped-up Ryzen 3 3100, but its 4+0 configuration does confer it additional performance benefits above and beyond its higher clock speeds.
Now if you do a lot of 3D or video rendering, you should definitely get something like the Ryzen 7 3700X with 8 cores and 16 threads of processing power.
But if you want something cheap to power a gaming system, the Ryzen 3 3300X is a great, GREAT option. The money you save can go towards a better graphics card!
And we should point out again that this 4-core, 8-thread processor only costs US$120 / RM 549, and it’s bundled with a Wraith Stealth cooler to boot!
While not quite the steal that the Ryzen 3 3100 really is, it is still a darn good bargain. So we are giving it our Editor’s Choice Award too!

AMD Ryzen 3 3100 : Official Tech Briefing
Let’s start with the official AMD Ryzen 3 3100 tech briefing by AMD Ryzen Product Marketing Manager, Erin Maiorino.
AMD Ryzen 3 3100 : Key Features
The AMD Ryzen 3 3100 is a quad-core processor, with a 3.6 GHz base clock, and a 3.9 GHz boost clock.
2+2 CCX Configuration
Unlike the Ryzen 3 3300X, the Ryzen 3 3100 uses a 2+2 CCX configuration. That means it uses two CCXs with two cores in each CCX, communicating through the Infinity Fabric interconnect.
TDP + Bundled Cooler
The AMD Ryzen 3 3100 has a 65 watt TDP, which can be reduced to 45 watts using Ryzen Eco Mode. And it comes bundled with the Wraith Stealth cooler.
Socket AM4
The AMD Ryzen 3 3100 continues to use the AMD AM4 socket, and is backward compatible with AMD 400 Series motherboards, as well as the new X570 and B550 chipsets.

On paper, the Ryzen 3 3100 has slower base and boost clock speeds than the Ryzen 7 2700X, but in reality, it has 5% better single-core performance!
CINEBENCH R20 Multi Core Performance
The Multi Core test shows the processor’s real-world 3D rendering performance.
Of course, it is still a 4-core, 8-thread processor, which means it will not perform as fast as 6-core processors, or 8-core processors.
Even so, the Ryzen 3 3100 was 91% as fast as the Ryzen 5 1600X (6 cores), and 65% as fast as the Ryzen 7 1800X (8 cores).
Multi-Threading Boost
This is not a CINEBENCH benchmark result. The Multi-Threading Boost is our calculation of the performance boost that the processor’s Multi-Threading capability provides.
While it may appear that the Ryzen 3 3100 has superior SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading) capabilities to the Intel Core i7-8700K, this is due to the fact that all four cores are in the same CCD (Core Chipset Die).
AMD Ryzen 3 3100 Video Transcoding Speed
HandBrake is a free, open-source video transcoding utility, which converts a video file from one resolution / format to another.
As you can imagine, it’s very compute-intensive, which makes it a great benchmark for multi-core processors. In our test, we converted a 4K video of 1.3 GB in size into a 1080p video (HQ1080p30).
Despite having only four cores, the Ryzen 3 3100 was 86% as fast as the Ryzen 5 1600X (6 cores), and 72% as fast as the Ryzen 7 1800X (8 cores).
In other words, it was 30% to 45% more efficient per core, than both first-gen Ryzen processors.
AMD Ryzen 3 3100 Radial Blur Speed
The radial blur filter adds the perception of motion to a picture. This is a compute-intensive operation that benefits from multiple processing cores.
This radial blur test was performed on Photoshop CC 14 using a single 13.5 megapixel photo, with a filesize of 4,910,867 bytes.
For a quad-core processor, the Ryzen 3 3100 did very well, coming within 13% of a 6-core processor like the Ryzen 5 1600X.

Synthetic Game Test – 3DMark
We used 3DMark’s Time Spy and Time Spy Extreme synthetic benchmarks, which supports DirectX 12, and the latest features like asynchronous compute, and multi-threading support.
Time Spy – 2560 x 1440
The AMD Ryzen 3 3100 was just 6.6% slower than the Ryzen 3 3300X, and 20% slower than the Ryzen 5 1600X.
Of course, the CPU only has a slight influence on a game’s performance, so its effect on the overall gaming score is less significant.
At the higher 4K resolution, the AMD Ryzen 3 3100 was 8% slower than the Ryzen 3 3300X, and 14% slower than the Ryzen 5 1600X.
Now check out the processors’ effect on the overall gaming score…
At 4K, it was just 2% slower than the Ryzen 3 3300X, and only 3% slower than the Ryzen 5 1600X. Practically no difference.

We tested it on three resolutions at the Ultra High settings :
1080p : 1920 x 1080
1440p : 2560 x 1440
1080p Gaming Resolution
Look at that. This is why the number of CPU cores don’t really matter when it comes to games.
The cheap Ryzen 3 3100 delivered 13% higher frame rates than the 8-core Ryzen 7 1800X!

1440p : 2560 x 1440
1080p Gaming Resolution
At 1080p, the AMD Ryzen 3 3100 delivered average frame rates within 4% of the Ryzen 5 1600X, and within 8% of the Ryzen 7 1800X!
1440p Gaming Resolution
When we bumped the resolution up to 1440p, it really didn’t matter that much which processor you used.
This showcases the importance of the Ryzen 3 3100’s greatly-improved single-core performance. It actually delivered 6% and 7% better frame rates than the Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 5 2600X processors!
1440p Gaming Resolution
At the higher 1440p resolution, the Ryzen 3 3100 was 7% and 11% faster than the Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 5 2600X processors!
AMD Ryzen 3 3100 : Our Verdict + Award!
Built around the Zen 2 microarchitecture, the AMD Ryzen 3 3100 uses a chiplet design which combines 7 nm and 12 nm parts to deliver a more powerful, and power-efficient processor at a great price point.
The end result is significantly better single-core and multi-core performance over previous generation Ryzen processors.
No doubt the AMD Ryzen 3 3100 is an entry-level processor, but our benchmarks show that it is roughly 85% as fast as the Ryzen 5 1600X (6 cores), and 65% as fast as the Ryzen 7 1800X (8 cores).
Now if you do a lot of 3D or video rendering, you should definitely get something like the Ryzen 7 3700X with 8 cores and 16 threads of processing power.
But if you want something cheap to power a gaming system, the Ryzen 3 3100 is a great, GREAT option. The money you save can go towards a better graphics card!
And we should point out again that this 4-core, 8-thread processor only costs US$99 / RM 449, and it’s bundled with a Wraith Stealth cooler to boot!

The AMD Ryzen 7 4800U is targeted directly at the Intel Core i7-9750H, offering :
Up to 5% better single-threaded performance
Up to 46% better multi-threaded performance
Up to 25% faster 4K video encoding on Adobe Premiere
Up to 39% faster gameplay physics simulation performance
Thanks to its 2 extra cores and ability to process 4 extra threads, the Ryzen 7 4800H significantly cuts down on the time it takes for content creators to process their work.
Now, its integrated Radeon Vega 7 Graphics is not very fast, which is why AMD did not quote any graphics performance figures. In fact, it has one less core and runs at at a slower speed than the Radeon Vega 8 Graphics in the Ryzen 7 4800U.
Instead, AMD shared with us the PHYSICS test results of the 3DMark Firestrike benchmark. It shows the Ryzen 7 4800H beating not only the Core i7-9750H mobile processor, but also the Core i7-9700K desktop processor! However, it is CPU-only benchmark.
Its gaming performance will definitely be poorer than that of the 15W Ryzen 7 4800U, which means it will likely be paired with a Radeon RX 5500M or RX 5600M, to take advantage of the new AMD SmartShift capability.

It can be simply described as a smart power distribution technique, to dynamically improve CPU or GPU performance with a limited power budget.
How Does AMD SmartShift Work?
In a typical laptop, the CPU and GPU each have their own pre-defined power budget.
The CPU and GPU will individually adjust their power consumption according to the load, using less power for a longer battery life, but never exceeding their power budget even when there is a need for more performance.
AMD SmartShift changes that by simply doing away with the pre-defined power budget, and using a shared power budget instead.
When you are running CPU-intensive tasks, it lets the Ryzen CPU take up more of the power budget, improving its performance.
But when you start up a game, AMD SmartShift lets the Radeon GPU take up more of the power budget, for better gaming performance.
Ultimately, SmartShift lets you squeeze out more performance from the CPU and GPU for a limited power budget.
The Performance Impact
According to AMD, SmartShift will deliver up to 10% better gaming performance, and up to 12% better content creation performance.
This was based on their internal tests using the AMD Ryzen 4800H mobile processor, coupled with the AMD Radeon RX 5600M GPU.
AMD SmartShift : How To Get It
AMD SmartShift is built into the new AMD Ryzen 4000 Mobile processor family, but also requires the laptop to have a separate AMD Radeon Graphics GPU.

AMD Senior Technical Marketing Manager, Robert Hallock, gives us a quick primer in this video.
What Eco-Mode does is lower the 3rd Gen Ryzen processor’s TDP by one step :
105 W and 95 W processors will be limited to 65 W
65 W processors will be limited to 45 W
The 3rd Gen Ryzen processor will manage core voltage and frequency automatically to keep to the new reduced power level.
Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO), Automatic Overclocking (AOC) and manual overclocking will be disabled when Eco-Mode is enabled.
Impact Of Ryzen Eco-Mode
Enabling Eco-Mode naturally impacts the processor’s performance, but greatly reduces its power consumption with a significant drop in CPU temperature.
AMD shared this chart with us, comparing the performance of the new Ryzen 9 3950X, with and without Eco-Mode turned on.
With a 38% lower TDP, the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X used 44% less power and ran 7°C cooler. On the downside, it was 23% slower.
However, it offers those on a limited TDP budget the option of using a CPU with more cores than would normally be possible.
Ryzen Eco-Mode Use Case
According to AMD Desktop Processor Technical Marketing Manager, Don Woligroski, Eco-Mode is best used by those who want to run high-end 3rd Gen Ryzen processors in Small Form Factor (SFF) PCs, NAS, Plex boxes, etc.
It will allow them to enjoy the performance of 12 or 16 cores, without worrying about overloading the SFF power supply, or excessive heat accumulating in the small chassis.
It can also be used to trade off Ryzen processor power for more graphics card power, if there is limited power at the system level.
Since it can be applied on-the-fly, you can also use it to greatly reduce power consumption and thermal output when you are not using your high-performance Ryzen system for strenuous work.
And when you need processing power, you can instantly turn it into a high-performance gaming or content creation system with a simple switch!
How To Enable / Disable Ryzen Eco-Mode
Ryzen Eco-Mode will NOT appear until PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive) is enabled in the BIOS, so before you begin, check and make sure PBO has been enabled in the BIOS.

AMD just announced that they will now launch the Ryzen 9 3950X together with the first slew of 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper processors… in November 2019!
AMD Ryzen 9 Availability
We reported back in August that AMD was having trouble meeting the high demand for their Ryzen processors and Radeon graphics cards.
At that time, the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X was hard to come by, and that has not changed until today – it is still hard to get your hands on one, compared to say, the Ryzen 7 3700X.
It appears that they have yield issues with the Ryzen 9 3900 that has kept availability low, compared to the other 3rd Gen Ryzen models.
AMD Ryzen 9 3950X + 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper Delayed!
The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X is a 16-core, 32-thread processor to top off the 3rd Gen Ryzen family, offering a 3.5 GHz base clock, a 4.7 GHz boost clock, and 72 MB of L2 and L3 caches.
Back in June, AMD announced that the Ryzen 9 3950X would be available sometime in September 2019.
However, they have now announced that it will delayed and launched together with the 3rd Gen Threadripper processors in November.
We are focusing on meeting the strong demand for our 3rd generation AMD Ryzen processors in the market and now plan to launch both the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X and initial members of the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor family in volume this November.
We are confident that when enthusiasts get their hands on the world’s first 16-core mainstream desktop processor and our next-generation of high-end desktop processors, the wait will be well worth it.
To assuage the disappointment of Ryzen fans, they shared with us the first “picture” of the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor. It’s really just a promotional render.
Ryzen 9 3950X + 3rd Gen Threadripper Delay : Good or Bad?
Well, if you have been hoping to upgrade to the 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X this month, it’s bad news, of course.
But two months passes in a jiffy, and when you think about it – it could potentially be good news.
For one thing, the high demand and low availability of the Ryzen 9 3900X meant that it is being sold at inflated prices right now.
The same thing will likely happen with the Ryzen 9 3950X, because yields will be significantly lower than lower-end models, like the Ryzen 7 3700X.
By delaying the launch, AMD buys time to improve the yield and volume for both the Ryzen 9 3950X and the 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper processors.
This should, hopefully, keep availability high and the prices steady when they eventually launch in November.

Note that the actual Ryzen 3rd Gen price in the US will vary, once sales taxes (between 0% and 12.875%) are factored in.
Our Advice On Buying The Ryzen 3rd Gen In The US
The AMD Ryzen 9 3900X appears to be a surprise hit. Due to overwhelming demand and extremely limited stocks, it is currently marked-up by a shocking 70% to $849.
The Ryzen 7 3800X and Ryzen 7 3700X are also selling at marked-up prices of $484.99 and $399.99 respectively due to high demand.
The good news is you can still buy the Ryzen 5 3600X and Ryzen 5 3600 at their SRP, or even at a slight discount – $239 and $199.99 respectively.
[adrotate group=”2″]
Our advice? Skip the Ryzen 9 3900X, Ryzen 7 3800X and Ryzen 7 3700X for the moment. They are ridiculously overpriced.
If you must buy a Ryzen 7 processor, consider getting these Ryzen 2nd Gen bargains instead!

So the AMD Ryzen + Radeon Party was, in part, to assuage the local dealers who have had trouble getting enough Ryzen and Radeon units to sell.
That is a good problem for AMD to have though, which Ryan Sim, AMD ASEAN Sales and Marketing Director, acknowledges.
As AMD Malaysia’s Gene Lim would share in this video, AMD has already beaten Intel in the CPU market in Japan and South Korea.
He earlier shared during the GIGABYTE X570 launch that AMD currently has a 42-43% share in the Malaysian CPU market, and they should capture at least 50% in Q3 2019.
