Intel 5G Technologies Announced @ MWC 2016

Move aside, 4G. Intel is already developing the next-generation 5G network. With billions of smart devices connecting to each other in massive networks, the need for ever higher bandwidth is placing extraordinary demands on today’s network infrastructure. The need for a faster, smarter and more efficient 5G wireless network becomes more and more critical with each passing year.

At 2016 Mobile World Congress (MWC 2016) in Barcelona, Intel will announce several new developments that will accelerate the road to a 5G world. Prior to this announcement, we were amongst those who were given an exclusive briefing on the MWC 2016 announcement on Intel 5G technologies. Let’s take a look!

Intel 5G Briefing Video

The MWC 2016 briefing on the new Intel 5G technologies was conducted by Aicha Evans, the Corporate Vice President of Platform Engineering Group and General Manager of the Intel Communication and Devices Group.

We created this special video presentation of the full briefing, because this is the best way to understand what Intel is doing for 5G connectivity. Let’s hear it from Aicha herself.

For those who prefer to “read” the briefing, here are the slides that Aicha Evans used

New Intel Wireless Solutions

These are not 5G-related, but they may be the most exciting news in this briefing because they will actually ship this year. The Intel XMM 7480 will being 4G LTE connectivity to smartphones, tablets and PCs. Intel also introduced a slew of Atom and XMM solutions to deliver wireless connectivity to IoT (Internet of Things) devices.

The slide above shows that bandwidth isn’t everything, because many IoT devices do not require much bandwidth.
