Spread the love

Now that the public COVID-19 vaccination has kicked off, here is what YOU NEED TO KNOW before you head to the vaccination centre!

Please share this out with your family and friends, so they know what to expect!

What Is The Process At The COVID-19 Vaccination Centre?

The Special Committee on COVID-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) has kindly provided this video showing you the process at the COVID-19 vaccination centre.

Unfortunately, it is in Mandarin, but it comes with Bahasa Malaysia subtitles, and we added our own English subtitles.

On Receiving Your COVID-19 Vaccination Appointment

When you have been selected to receive your free COVID-19 vaccination, you will be informed through MySejahtera (with a notification in your smartphone) as well as an SMS.

You will be told WHEN and WHERE you will receive the vaccination. You will have 48 hours to accept or reject it.

If you fail to respond, it will be automatically rejected and you will be rescheduled for another appointment.

Children of senior citizens who need help to get to the vaccination centre can obtain police permission to travel interstate to help them.

If you want to vaccinate together with your spouse or dependents, you can request to do so.

After accepting the vaccination appointment, please make sure you continue to take whatever medications have been prescribed to you.

DO NOT STOP TAKING YOUR MEDICATIONS.

At The COVID-19 Vaccination Centre

Here is the entire process you should expect when you arrive at the COVID-19 vaccination centre :

Step 1 : Temperature Check And Triage.

Head to the first counter, where an officer will quickly scan your body temperature, to ensure that you have no fever; before verifying that your name is in the list.

You will only be allowed into the COVID-19 vaccination if you have normal temperature. Otherwise, you will be rejected at this point, and your appointment rescheduled.

Step 2 : Scan Your MySejahtera

At the second counter, you will be asked to scan the vaccination centre’s QR code using MySejahtera. This is to confirm that you have now arrived at the vaccination centre.

Step 3 : Fill + Sign Your Consent Forms

At the third counter, you will be given two copies of the consent form to fill and sign. There will be four questions :

  1. Do you have a history of side effects from vaccination?
  2. Do you have severe allergies?
  3. Are you pregnant?
  4. Are you breastfeeding?

If you have any questions, you can ask the attending doctor. Otherwise, sign the consent forms.

Step 4 : Verification

Bring your consent forms to the fourth counter, where you will be asked to verify your name, your MyKad or passport number, and your MySejahtera confirmation number.

Step 5 : Waiting Room

You will now be ushered to a waiting room, with physically-distanced seating.

You may be given a waiting card, or your name will be called when it is your turn.

Step 6 : Vaccination

Once it’s your turn, you will be taken into an enclosed room, where a healthcare worker will administer the vaccine.

The vaccine – which can be either Pfizer COMIRNATY or Sinovac CoronaVac at this time – is administered intramuscularly into your shoulder – in the deltoid muscle.

The healthcare worker will ask you which shoulder you would prefer to be injected. Opt for your non-dominant arm.

  • If you are right-handed, ask to be injected in the left shoulder.
  • If you are left-handed, ask to be injected in the right shoulder.

This is because the vaccine may cause some soreness in the shoulder that’s injected.

The injection is no different from other intramuscular injections you have received in the past. So think happy thoughts – there is much less pain if your muscle is relaxed.

Step 7 : Side Effect Briefing

After you received your first vaccine dose, you will be briefed by a healthcare worker on what side effects you can expect.

If you notice any significant side effects, you can report them in MySejahtera.

Then you will be issued a vaccination card, with the date and time of your next COVID-19 vaccination dose.

Both Pfizer COMIRNATY or Sinovac CoronaVac vaccines require two doses.

Step 8 : Monitoring

Finally, you will be asked to stay for at least 15-30 minutes, so the doctors can monitor you for any acute side effects.

At this time, you will have the opportunity to take photos to encourage your family and friends to vaccinate themselves against COVID-19.

Feel free to take as many shots as you wish, and SHARE THEM on social media!

After waiting for 15-30 minutes, you can go home. It’s that simple!
